Chapter 6: The Coming Storm

Somewhere in the country of Guatemala, within one of its cities, the one and only Godzilla, the King of Monsters, trampled through it with his dorsal plates still glowing their bright blue hue. Normally, Godzilla would make sure to destroy any unfortunate city blocks that lied around him to make the humans atone for their sins, but this time, he appeared to be making a beeline directly through the city, seeming as if he was after something of great importance to him.
"Skreeeeeeooooooonk!", Godzilla roared out as he stomped through the city at a fast pace, ignoring all the humans below him screaming in panic as buildings collapsed in his wake.
At the Autobot base, Godzilla's movements and patterns had not gone unnoticed by Ratchet, who had been keeping track of him during the time when the Autobots were scattered after the battle on the Dark Energon meteor.
"Optimus, you may want to have a look at this", Ratchet said to his leader.
Hearing this, Optimus Prime, now fully repaired with having his chest plates restored, approached from behind Ratchet, along with the rest of Team Prime having an interest in what he had discovered.
Ratchet continued. "Shortly after you all fell from the Dark Energon meteor, my scanners were able to pick up Godzilla having emerged again, and to where he was able to achieve a significant increase in his power…", he said as he showcased a videographic image of Godzilla stomping through Guatemala with his glowing dorsal plates.
"Is it just me or has he been working out?", Bulkhead asked.
"Well, at some point shortly after the meteor crash landed on Earth, Godzilla began conducting raids on multiple power plants scattered across this globe, and given what we know of his species, the more radiation he obtains from these power plants, the more powerful he becomes", Ratchet said a way of answering Bulkhead. "And now, he appears to be making a direct path towards the location of Zo-Zla-Halawa. This could only mean one thing…", he said as he looked at Optimus.
"Given that the blood of Unicron not only resides within Zo-Zla-Halawa, but also serves as his power source, Godzilla was most likely able to detect his location as soon as he crash landed on this planet", Optimus Prime said. "In order to ensure that he would possess enough power to eliminate him for good, Godzilla would have taken it upon himself to increase his own power before setting his sights on his ancient foe in order to destroy him…"
"But that's not all…", Ratchet added. "Also trailing behind Godzilla, is another Titan of similar proportion to him…", he said as he zoomed in on another videographic image of Anguirus stomping through the cities of the country, Colombia, a notable distance away from Guatemala. "Given what is said in Monarch's data files, this Titan is referred to as Anguirus, who had just recently awoken in the rocky mountains of a country known as Bolivia, shortly after Zo-Zla-Halawa's landing".
"It would stand to reason that, with Zo-Zla-Halawa landing in close enough proximity to where Anguirus was lying dormant, his impact and presence was enough to cause Anguirus to awaken once again, where he now intends to aid Godzilla in his mission to destroy him", Optimus Prime said. "While Prima never logged too many specifics into what he took note of during his time on this planet, he did note that the Godzilla Civil War caused some species of Titans to align with Godzilla, while others, with Zo-Zla-Halawa, and with Anguirus and Godzilla joining forces, Anguirus was most likely part of a now nearly extinct species to have fought alongside Godzilla during that time".
"Well, looks like we've already got this situation solved", Bulkhead said. "I mean, with how much power Godzilla's gained and with Zo-Zla-Halawa stuck in that meteor, all we have to do is just wait for Godzilla to do the dirty work for us…right…?"
"While Godzilla heading towards the sight of Zo-Zla-Halawa in order to destroy him may be within our best interest, there is still one thing that I fear, given that Zo-Zla-Halawa relies on Dark Energon to maintain his power…", Optimus Prime said.
Right after he said this, however, some of Ratchet's equipment made a short beeping noise, which was a way of notifying Ratchet of Decepticon activity on Earth.
"Optimus, I am picking up two Decepticon energy signatures, located at the Three Gorges Dam in China", Ratchet addressed his leader.
"What would the Decepticons want so badly that's even there?", Chromia asked.
"The Three Gorges Dam is known to be one of, if not the largest power plant on Earth, holding a massive amount of radiation", Ratchet replied. "But, while I could see why Godzilla would require it, what could Megatron possibly gain from taking all that radiation…?"
"It is exactly what I feared, my friend", Optimus said. "Given that, just like the rest of the Titanus Gojira species, Zo-Zla-Halawa would require radiation to reach his full power, that Megatron has aligned Zo-Zla-Halawa with the Decepticons…"
"You can't be serious", Ratchet frowned. "Megatron may be out of his mind, but why would he ever even think to align the Decepticons with a being such as that?!"
"Since like Megatron, Zo-Zla-Halawa maintains a reliance on Dark Energon, Megatron may have attempted to appeal to him in order that they both may unite against both us and against Godzilla", Optimus replied. "While even I may find it hard to believe, especially with his failed invasion three years ago, Megatron has become increasingly desperate in order to find an edge he could use to take this world for himself, even it means aligning with powers far greater than his own…"
"Optimus, what do you mean…?", Arcee asked, nervously.
"My greatest fear is that Megatron takes for granted, the true intelligence of these Titans, and that Zo-Zla-Halawa may be using him as nothing more than a means to his end…", Optimus frowned before finally giving a call to action, not wanting to waste anymore time. "Regardless, with the Decepticons now intent on seeing Zo-Zla-Halawa restored to his full power, we must stop them, here and now, so that Godzilla will be able to finish what he started all those millennia ago. Ironhide, you will accompany me to the Three Gorges Dam, so that we may prevent these Decepticons from allowing Megatron's folly in desperation to reign supreme".
"You got it, Prime!", Ironhide replied before punching his fist into his palm. "After all they've been putting us through here, I've been itching to bust some more Deceptichops lately…"
"That's the spirit, old friend", Optimus Prime said to Ironhide. "Ratchet, activate the Ground Bridge".
Receiving the order, Ratchet used the switch to open a Ground Bridge to the Three Gorges Dam for Optimus Prime and Ironhide. Before they left, however, Optimus made sure to address his medic one more time.
"Ratchet, while we are gone, there is something that I need you to do", Optimus said.
"What is it, Optimus?", Ratchet asked.
"In the event we are unable to prevent Zo-Zla-Halawa from regaining his full power, I fear not even Godzilla and Anguirus would be able to stop him. Because of that, I would need to know if you are capable of creating a device that would be able to deplete Zo-Zla-Halawa of his power", Optimus Prime replied.
"Hmm…given my extensive knowledge on radiation and its weaknesses, I may be able to craft some sort of device capable of weakening Zo-Zla-Halawa, but it may take some time", Ratchet said.
"That is all we can hope for. Ready, Ironhide?", Optimus asked his right-hand man.
"Ready, Prime", Ironhide said with confidence.
"Be careful out there, Ironhide", Chromia smiled at her partner.
"You know me, Chromia. No promises", Ironhide smiled back before grouping up with Optimus, in which they both faced the opened Ground Bridge.
"Let's roll, old friend!", Optimus Prime declared before he and Ironhide transformed into their vehicle modes and drove through the Ground Bridge, followed by the Bridge closing behind them as they left.
Immediately after, Optimus Prime and Ironhide arrived at the Three Gorges Dam in China, in which both of them took notice to Skyquake and Dreadwing filling up some sort of container with the nuclear energy stored within the power plant. Not wasting any time, both Autobots approached the Decepticons, hoping to stop them before it was too late.
"Skyquake! Dreadwing! Stand down!", Optimus Prime ordered as he pointed his blasters at them, along with Ironhide doing the same with his cannons.
"You should know well enough by now, Prime, that neither Dreadwing nor I will ever take orders from a Prime!", Skyquake argued with the now charged container in his possession.
"Do you two not see the folly in following Megatron's desire in restoring Zo-Zla-Halawa to his full power?", Optimus asked them. "I know that both of you value honor and justice above all else, so I will make this case only once. Please, surrender the container and side with the Autobots, so that we may end this conflict forever, for you all are meddling with powers that you do not truly understand!"
"You dare question the almighty power of Lord Megatron?!", Dreadwing shouted, pointing his sword at Optimus. "It is through his very will that Zo-Zla-Halawa will align with us in our objective, and one could easily make the claim that you are making false arguments in order to prevent us from doing so".
"With all due respect, Prime, I don't see any hopes of reasoning with these two", Ironhide said, quietly to Optimus. "I say we cut the small talk and take 'em down now".
"I would be inclined to agree, old friend", Optimus sighed in disappointment. "Very well", he then said to Skyquake and Dreadwing.
In that moment, Optimus Prime and Ironhide charged at Skyquake and Dreadwing, ready to face them in battle. However, Megatron's two most loyal warriors were not going to risk losing all that radiation to the Autobots.
"Skyquake, you know what to do", Dreadwing said to his twin.
With this, Skyquake nodded before transforming into his jet mode, carrying the container of radiation as he flew away from the battlefield so as to not risk the Autobots collecting it.
"Gah! I'll get him", Ironhide said before transforming into his truck mode and chasing after Skyquake.
"Ironhide, wait!", Optimus shouted.
As Ironhide drove away, however, Optimus was caught off guard when Dreadwing swooped in and punched Prime right in his face, causing him to slide back a good bit. Regaining his focus, Optimus Prime locked his eyes on Dreadwing, who did some practicing moves with his sword before yelling out his battle cry as he charged at Optimus with it. Knowing that there was no way he was going to be convinced and that the only option was to fight, Optimus Prime transformed his right hand into one of his blades, where he charged towards Dreadwing.
With both of them charging at each other, Dreadwing jumped up as he attempted to swing his sword down on Optimus. Optimus Prime, however, managed to block him with his blade, causing Dreadwing to land back on his feet, where both of them began having a duel with their weapons, each of them trying to hit the other but was always blocked by the blade of his opponent.
Meanwhile, Ironhide continued chasing Skyquake down, with the Decepticon being significantly faster than him due to being capable of flight. Eventually, however, Ironhide transformed into his robot mode, as he had an idea as to how to force Skyquake to land.
"Alright, that's it!", Ironhide declared. "Wanna be a pain in the axle about it? Two can play it that game", he said before pounding the ground as hard as he could with his fist, causing an omni-directional E.M.P. blast to occur around him.
Due to the E.M.P., the blast was able to hit Skyquake, causing his jet mode to be rendered obsolete, resulting in him having to transform into his robot mode and land on the ground, where he also ended up dropping the container of radiation.
"You see, unlike you Decepticons, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty in close combat", Ironhide frowned as he approached Skyquake. "So, let me make it clear when I say I ain't letting you feed into old bucket-head's fantasies by leaving with that radiation!", he proclaimed as he whipped out his cannons again.
"I would not be so sure about that, Ironhide", Skyquake replied. "It is from my understanding that you were able to defeat my brother in combat with help from your partner. However, your partner is not here, with you, and while I will credit my brother as a capable warrior, you will find that I will serve as more of a challenge…", he declared just before whipping out his large machine gun and aimed it at Ironhide, where he fired its rapid barrage of bullets at the Autobot.
Not being able to react quick enough, Ironhide was barraged by the bullets that came from the machine gun, but once the machine gun ceased firing, Ironhide, having not taken too much damage, retorted by quickly firing two blasts, one from each of his cannons, at Skyquake.
Even though Skyquake was able to bend down and forward to dodge the first blast, he ended up being hit close to his head with the second blast, which disoriented him quite a bit. Using this as an opportunity, Ironhide rushed in and punched Skyquake in his face, causing the Decepticon to let go of his machine gun and drop it. After unloading his fists on Skyquake, Skyquake was eventually able to fight back by blocking Ironhide from punching him, and where he was then able to hit the Autobot with an uppercut, causing him to fly back into the air. While Ironhide was still airborne, Skyquake grabbed his heel and using all the strength he had, threw Ironhide across the battlefield enshrouded in grasslands.
Ironhide then landed violently, on his back, and now that he was down, Skyquake picked his machine gun back up and aimed it at Ironhide as he slowly walked closer to him. Ironhide, however, had an idea, one to where he hoped Skyquake would get as close to him as he possibly could.
"Come on, Decepticon, just a little bit more…", Ironhide whispered to himself as he saw Skyquake approach him.
Soon enough, Skyquake was now looming over Ironhide, as he seemed to be victorious in the battle.
"It will be a shame to crush you, Ironhide, but it is my duty", Skyquake as he put his machine gun away and looked like he was getting ready to punch Ironhide to death.
Just then, however, Ironhide pulled out a small dagger stored in his thigh and before Skyquake could even think, he violently stabbed it right into the Decepticon's leg!
"Raaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!", Skyquake yelled in pain as he felt the dagger stab into him.
With Skyquake distracted and injured, Ironhide regained the upper hand by kicking him away, allowing him to stand up, followed by him punching Skyquake repeatedly, with all his might. After unloading on him enough, Ironhide pinned the Decepticon down by blasting him with both his cannons at the same time, causing Skyquake to violently fall the ground.
"Sorry, Skyquake, but I already told ya, I ain't gonna let ya take that damn radiation to that leader of yours", Ironhide said with an intense frown on his face. Intending to finish him off, Ironhide charged up one of his cannons, which was pointed directly at Skyquake's face.
But when all seemed to be going smoothly for Ironhide in stopping the radiation from getting to Megatron, completely out of nowhere, something from behind ended up shocking him to the point where it caused him to be rendered unconscious and fall the ground. Right after Ironhide fell, it was revealed that the individual who shocked him was Soundwave, who had used his two clawed tentacles to do so.
After taking Ironhide out of the fight, Soundwave used one of his tentacles to obtain the container of radiation collected from the Three Gorges Dam. At the same time, Skyquake was able to get back on his feet, where he stood next to Soundwave as he violently ripped out the dagger lodged in his leg. With Ironhide no longer posing a problem and having regained possession of the container, Skyquake and Soundwave promptly transformed into their jet modes and retreated into the sky and away from the battleground.
"Dreadwing, this is Skyquake", Skyquake contacted his twin via his com link as he flew. "Ironhide has been dealt with and we have secured possession of the radiation required".
Back with the battle between Optimus Prime and Dreadwing, with Dreadwing having just gotten word from Skyquake that their mission was a success, he knew now that there was no point in maintaining his battle with Optimus.
"You are an admirable warrior, Prime, but your efforts have been in vain, as we already have what we need to achieve our objective", Dreadwing smirked as he spoke to Optimus.
Even though he was processing what Dreadwing was saying, Optimus Prime still rushed towards him, hoping that he could at least, stop him from aiding the Decepticons in their goal, but as soon as Dreadwing said his previous statement, the Seeker captain transformed into his jet mode and fled the battlefield, leaving Optimus Prime there.
With Dreadwing gone and having comprehended everything he just said to him, Optimus Prime knew that this meant that Skyquake was able to retreat with all the radiation they needed to return Zo-Zla-Halawa to his former glory.
"NOOOOOOOOOO!", Optimus Prime yelled out into the sky as loud as he could, with this being one of the very few instances he showed such a strong emotion like rage. With this being a situation that caused even Optimus Prime to lose his composure at one point, it could only mean that Zo-Zla-Halawa was a truly evil and powerful threat to planet Earth. Regaining his composure, Optimus soon remembered that he needed to ensure that Ironhide was still functional. "Ironhide! Ironhide, do you read me?", Optimus said into his com link, hearing nothing but static in response. Using his knowledge on the direction Ironhide drove when pursuing Skyquake, Optimus Prime transformed into his truck mode in order to find him, hoping that he had survived his battle against the Decepticon.
Back in the large cave in Arizona where Zo-Zla-Halawa (who was now unconscious again) was still stuck in the Dark Energon meteor, along with the rest of the Decepticons there, as well, Megatron took notice to Soundwave, Skyquake, and Dreadwing all fly through the mouth of the cave, where they all transformed into their robot modes, followed by Soundwave presenting the container filled with the radiation from the Three Gorges Dam to his master.
"Ahh, there it is", Megatron smiled, deviously. "You three have served me well today".
Before Megatron could make a call to action to begin feeding the radiation to Zo-Zla-Halawa, however, Soundwave took a few steps towards him, indicating that he had something important to address.
"What is it, Soundwave?", Megatron asked.
In response, Soundwave showed Megatron on his visor a map of the region of Earth they were currently in, along with a visual of Godzilla's energy signature approaching them. Upon seeing all of this, Megatron immediately knew what was happening.
"So…it would seem that Godzilla is intending to thwart our plan sooner than we anticipated…", Megatron mused.
"And it would seem that, with Godzilla approaching ever closer, we may need to accelerate our efforts in restoring Zo-Zla-Halawa to his former power…", Starscream added.
"Your ability to state the obvious staggers the imagination", Megatron said to Starscream before turning his attention to Knockout. "Knockout! Ensure that you and Breakdown begin working on feeding the radiation to Zo-Zla-Halawa at once!", he commanded his medical officer.
"Yes, Lord Megatron…", Knockout replied with a nervous smile as he took the container of nuclear energy from Soundwave.
"Soon, my Decepticons, the known universe will realize that this planet belongs…to Megatron…", Megatron smiled as he admired the unconscious Zo-Zla-Halawa looming in front of him and his Decepticons, knowing that this ancient, powerful creature may very well be the key in conquering Earth once and for all.
Back at the Autobot base, where Optimus Prime and Ironhide had returned, Team Prime was now in a state of distress as they needed to make a plan and fast with the Decepticons now possessing a means for giving Zo-Zla-Halawa his former power.
"And I would have had Skyquake, had Mr. Personality didn't sucker shock me!", Ironhide complained as he pounded his fists together, referring to how Soundwave snuck up on him.
"Nonetheless, it does not change the fact that with the Decepticons now having all the nuclear energy previously stored within the Three Gorges Dam, that unless they are stopped beforehand, Zo-Zla-Halawa will be free to unleash his reign upon this planet once again…", Optimus Prime said.
"Question: Why can't we just let the G-man handle it for us, you know, with him being on his way there and all?", Wheeljack asked.
"Given that Godzilla still has not even reached the United States yet, and with all the advanced technology at the Decepticons' disposal, it seems highly unlikely that Godzilla would be able reach Zo-Zla-Halawa's location in time", Ratchet answered.
"Well, even if Godzilla can't get there in time, didn't you say he was able to imprison Zo-Zla-Halawa before? Who's to say he can't just do it again?", Bulkhead asked Optimus.
"Even though Godzilla was able to defeat and imprison Zo-Zla-Halawa long ago, both his defeat and imprisonment would not have been possible, were it not for the efforts of another ancient Titan that aided Godzilla during that time, one that has not been seen, nor heard from in some time", Optimus replied. "And given that her whereabouts are still unknown, our only hope now is to ensure that Godzilla and Anguirus will be able to destroy him for good, I fear we only have one option left… Ratchet, are you still able to access the previous coordinates, where you opened the Ground Bridge for Prowl and myself?"
"You mean the same location Zo-Zla-Halawa is at?", Ratchet questioned with some noticeable shock on his face. "I can, but are you seriously suggesting what I think you are suggesting…?"
"Yes. Since the Decepticons are now intent on restoring Zo-Zla-Halawa to his full power, it would stand to reason that that is where they are as well", Optimus Prime said before preparing himself to make the declaration of what to do next. "Autobots, given our current situation, if we are to ensure humankind's safety, then our only hope of doing so is to go to Zo-Zla-Halawa's location and face the Decepticons head on!"
Upon hearing this, all of Team Prime reacted with shocked expressions, but at the same time, they all knew that this was the only way they could hope to stop Megatron in his diabolical plan.
"I agree", Ironhide chimed in, backing up Optimus Prime and breaking the brief silence.
"Well…what are we waiting for…?", Chromia asked. "If we're gonna stop the Cons, we better do it sooner rather than later".
Bumblebee gave some enthusiastic bleeps in response, indicating he agreed with the current consensus.
"A chance to finally put bucket-head and all his goons in the dirt? Count me in", Wheeljack said as he activated his battle mask.
"Ratchet, activate the Ground Bridge", Optimus Prime ordered.
"Right, Optimus", Ratchet said before doing as Optimus commanded him.
"Optimus, with all due respect, if we are going to engage the entire Decepticon army with Megatron back, along with that Space Godzilla being there, then I hate to say that the probability of survival for each of us is significantly low", Prowl said to his leader, apprehensive about the whole situation.
"Then, if we are to die, then we will die fighting, all as one. Autobots! Transform and roll out!", Optimus Prime declared before he and the rest of his team transformed into their vehicle modes and drove through the Ground Bridge.
And now, with the fate of planet Earth in the balance once again, and even though Godzilla still has his sights set on the site of Zo-Zla-Halawa's landing, even he might not be able to make it there in time, the Autobots are now fully prepared to engage in a final showdown against the Decepticons to determine the fate of Earth once and for all!
