Scene 1: The Beach
Rhonda (running in True's direction): There are you are. I have been looking for you. I thought we were going to walk home together.
True (choked up): I took a detour
Rhonda: I forgive you. I hope you are not going to drown yourself in the ocean.
True (crying as she moves closer to the ocean): Everything is my fault so I want to die
Rhonda (pulling True out of the water): I love you. You will not kill yourself on my watch.
True (sobbing): I keep on messing up. I can't do anything right. I don't know what is wrong with me. It will not get any better or easier for me. Sometimes I wish I was never born.
Rhonda (becoming emotional): Life would be boring and gloomy without you in the world
True (sniffling): You are a very kind person. You can be anybody's friend. Why did you want to hang out with a loser like me?
Rhonda: I believe God put me in your life for a reason. By the way, you are not a loser.
True: Lets play hopscotch then
(Assuming True wants to play hopscotch, Rhonda buys True a jump rope at a nearby store. Apart of herself fears True will use the rope for hanging (perhaps to commit suicide). In private, Rhonda shares this concern with Brooke. As usual, Brooke is in denial).
