Sorry for this chapter's long delay! It was much harder for me to write than I thought zzz. The next chapters (hopefully) won't take as long now that I'm getting used to writing the letters!
Mom,
I'll do my best to pay attention to Utsushimi, but she is a rather strange person in numerous ways, so I'm not sure what might constitute as out of the ordinary for her.
There is going to be another school event soon; the school festival. It usually happens around this time, but this year it's only going to be open to students, staff, and a small group of outsiders. Each class is going to be holding their own exhibitions and we had to decide what the topic would be.
We put all our ideas on the blackboard and we couldn't agree to one topic in class. Aizawa-sensei let us have more time, so we resumed at the dorms but we still struggled. Iida raised a good point that we should think about doing something that the other classes could also find enjoyable.
That gave me an idea, but it wasn't until Ashido brought up dancing that I added my input. Her talking about dancing reminded me of the remedial class where both us high school students and the grade school students had fun, so I suggested that we do a dance club. Everyone seemed to like the idea (though, they were quite shocked that I was the one who suggested it for some reason). It was something I thought of with all my might, yet it still felt lacking in some way. Luckily, Mineta added that if we're doing a dancing event, we have to include music. Thanks to him, we now have a dancing and music performance planned.
Music will be taught by Jirou, and their band consists of her, Bakugou, Yaoyorozu, and Tokoyami.
Anyone that wants to dance will learn from Ashido, who is quite adept at teaching. She taught Aoyama several moves in less than a day.
Jirou's parents are in the music industry and as a result she has experience playing multiple instruments. She'll be the lead singer and bassist. Yaoyorozu learned how to play piano when growing up and will be on the keyboard. Bakugou is unexpectedly a talented drummer. Jirou even asks for tips from him sometimes. Tokoyami and Kaminari will be the guitarists. Tokoyami has prior experience and Kaminari seems passionate, so it should go well.
I'm not confident at dancing or singing, therefore I'll be working behind the scenes on the stage team. The stage team is me, Koda, Sero, and Kirishima. Everyone else is going to be dancing.
Ashido's going to be working closely together with us so that we can replicate exactly what she envisions for the performance. Having her in this role is the logical choice as she's the most creative person in the class.
I will say, up until now I never realized how much work stage teams do for performances. While the ones who usually get the spotlight are the singers and dancers, I now have a new perspective after experiencing it for myself.
Since a lot of people won't be able to see it in-person, there should be recordings of it afterwards. I'll show it to you when I see you again.
Shouto
…
Dear Shouto,
I'm proud of you for thinking of this wonderful idea and contributing it to the class. It's a shame I won't be able to see your class performing, but I will happily look at any pictures or videos later!
Everyone has an important role to play in the performance. The performers on stage and the ones behind the curtains work together to create a work of art that leaves the audience satisfied. It's great that you learned this lesson. It's not just here; all industries can typically only function as a result of the people working beyond the public's point of view, including hero work.
Remember to have fun.
Love,
Mom
...
Mom,
We had an idea to use Aoyama as a disco ball by hanging him from the rafters. But then we thought that even if it's exciting at first, if that's all he does then he'll lose his 'sparkle' with the audience. Koda suggested that midway Aoyama moves in different directions. None of us had a quirk suited to that, so we asked Ashido for one of the dancers with a physically powerful quirk. They gave us Midoriya.
Oh, and Togata-senpai brought a little girl. I assumed she was his daughter, but she's someone that Midoriya and the others rescued while they were on their work study.
There seems to be multiple people who are skilled at teaching others. Even though Kaminari started out as a beginner, he has several chords memorized just after a week.
Yaoyorozu's parents shipped her some exquisite tea and she shared it with everyone in the class. She says it's elusive and rare (her still sharing it with all of us is nice of her to do), I'll see if I can find some to share with you. I asked her a little about it after everyone finished drinking and she seemed happy to have someone else in the class who is interested in tea. Maybe I'll look up more information about teas so that we'll have more to talk about.
Shouto
"Do you think he knows he talks about her differently?" Fuyumi giggles while reading Shouto's letters.
"I don't really think he does. It makes it cuter in its own way."
"Mom, guess what?"
"What is it, Fuyumi?"
"I told Natsuo to show his face here once in a while. He's finally going to come after being 'busy' all this time."
"Are you still convinced that he has a girlfriend?"
Fuyumi raises her glasses and a glint appears. "He hasn't been coming to the house lately, either, so I know he does even if he won't say it."
"We can ask if he has one when he comes next week."
"Oh, I'll ask him alright."
'Fuyumi really needs a hobby… or a boyfriend.'
Mom,
A bit about the concert: Bakugou starts things off with his explosions to signal that it's starting and capture the audience's attention. All the dancers then come out from the curtain and sync with the music for a minute.
Following that, Midoriya and Aoyama run at each other from opposite ends of the stage and meet in midair, where Midoriya tosses Aoyama up near the ceiling. Aoyama spins around and becomes a human disco ball.
Midoriya picks up Aoyama from the support beams using the rope tied to his back and spins him around. At the same time, I form several ice platforms from the back of the auditorium to the other (I'm positioned behind the audience) and Sero fires off tape.
Anyone in the audience that raises their hand when Uraraka asks who wants to have fun gets to be floated by her (taped down to my ice structures for safety purposes).
Some more individual dancers get the focus of the attention. Iida does the robot dance and Mineta gets the four girl dancers; Hagakure, Ashido, Uraraka, and Asui, supporting him. Though, I'm not quite sure what this 'harem' thing that he speaks about is.
After the performance, the class wanted to head to the beauty pageant. Hadou-senpai managed to win this year's competition. Maybe it's just impossible for me to comprehend the concept of beauty, because I can't understand how Kenranzaki-senpai managed to win against her at all while they were both first and second years.
Kendo also participated this year. Yaoyorozu wanted to show her support to her fellow intern. Looking at her made me think that she probably could and would win if she competed. Someone kept shouting Yaoyorozu's name while the concert was playing. She's quite popular.
Afterwards, everyone went their separate ways to take part in whatever interests them. I took a couple pictures with Iida on some photo stand-ins, I'll show them to you later.
I miss you.
Shouto
...
Mom,
I forgot to add this part to the previous letter. While Midoriya was out buying new ropes and other necessary supplies just before the concert, he told me he spotted a tea house nearby that sells the Golden Tips Imperial tea. That tea house is well hidden and owned by a very old man. I brought it up to Yaoyorozu and she said it seemed suspicious that such a place has the rare tea, so she happily agreed to come with me to scope it out. (I also told Uraraka and she gave that same smile as before).
That's all I have to say for now.
