Ch 37: I(ce) Cream

They all gathered with Ruby to go into town for the sweet reward. Weiss would have joined but she was busy in a meeting with Winter and had one with her brother afterwards. Town was a short walk so they went by foot. None of the young adults bothered to change from swimwear though Indi put her shirt and shorts back on and Dove threw a summer dress over her own.

Ruby cut up with them the whole trip, enjoying the exciting retelling of the competition that had rendered this trip in the first place. The older woman had spent so long isolated from family and friends that moments like this really brought her joy, like being human and alive inside again.

Jin and Loki of course were at odds with one another, Loki demanding a rematch but Dove just reminding her she lost fair and square. Spadix noticed that with Ruby present, the two were back to acting as they did during the festival, as if they were just close friends and partners from school days. It wasn't unusual for team partners to continue to work together deep into their careers after leaving the academies after all.

Dove caught the owl's curious stare and raised a finger to her lips when the older woman wasn't looking. Dove hung back in the group to be near the curious owl and the very observant partner and whispered, "Please… it's just easier when people don't know."

The two were curious but nodded. Spadix, knowing what she knew, assumed it probably had to do with the dynamic of their relationship. It didn't seem that Dove was embarrassed but she could only imagine that most people wouldn't understand, especially parents and older family. Plus, Ruby knew Loki's parents and from what Spadix knew about Nora and Ren from her growing up buried in books, they were not at all like these two and probably wouldn't be very happy about any of it.

Dove seemed to appreciate the sworn silence and reingrained herself with the others ahead. Eventually, they all arrived at Ruby's favorite ice cream vendor in the small town. The owners knew the older woman's order by heart and got it ready as they took the orders of the six younger people she brought with her, "Do what do we owe this pleasure Mrs Rose?"

She chuckled and waved a hand at the young adults, "They had a friendly competition and ice cream was some of their winnings. I couldn't think of a better place in town then yours!"

The older gentleman laughed as his granddaughter started taking the orders for him. Everyone settled into the benches and table outside his humble stand. Jin was still trying to keep Spadix's attention, standing across from her at the table and making subtle flexes in her arms and abs, smirking at the owl's locked gaze and squirm.

The others were all busy bothering Ruby for mission stories or messing with one another to notice any of the slight tension between the two. Jin eventually sat across from the owl and chuckled as Spadix whined too low for anyone else to hear, "You are not fair you know that?"

Jin just winked at her girlfriend, enjoying her ice cream and making sure her arms were still visible, knowing Spadix was unable to stop staring. This just wouldn't do for the owl faunus. She refused to be turned into a mess in front of everyone like this. At least not without a fight. She stared at the ice cream cone in her hand and grinned for a moment, purposely enjoying it the slowest she could to not raise suspicion while she let the summer heat melt at the scoop of the rich vanilla within.

As it dripped down her fingers she noticed Jin tense up some. Now she had the dragon's full attention too. Without a word, Spadix locked her eyes with Jin's face as she leaned her own face low, tongue reaching the dripping liquids on her fingers and running the wet muscle along the lines on her fingers in slow, teasing motions all the way back up to the ice cream above the cone.

She felt a bit of pride in her returned attack when she saw Jin biting into her lower lip and growing very tense, shifting slightly in her seat and releasing a well hidden deep breath from the others. The only one to notice really was Dove but she chose to ignore them and not draw attention over, turning her eyes back to everyone else. Sure she could embarrass them, but she was actually kind of fond of the owl for some reason and didn't feel like playing dirty like that against her. It was cute to Dove that someone so nervous and shy was being bold. Far be it from her to mess with that.

Jin sat up straight, taking in a deep inhale as Spadix's tongue swirled around another drop and across a finger, curling over sticky talons. She was dawning her own light smirk now, satisfied and finally finishing the treat before the others could catch on. Everyone was finishing up and she didn't want them to be noticed.

Ruby bid farewell to the stand keeper as she led them all back. Jin hung back with dove and Spadix, grumpy and clearly wound up, "that was underhanded and you know it."

Dove chuckled as Spadix smiled, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Jin gently nudged her whining a bit. Dove laughed a bit harder, "God you are still just weak aren't you?"

It was a joke with no malice or sting behind it so the couple didn't find it rude. Jin just growled and folded her arms, "Yea yea laugh it up. Least we aren't you."

Dove glared at her but was grinning, giving a gentle warning, "Watch it you. That's a thin line you are walking."

They all shared a giggle before getting back to the house. Ruby went inside to start dinner, Weiss still in a meeting with Whitley that Sterling knew would take hours. Indi and Sterling got the fire pit going that was near the pool as the sun started its way towards slow descent. Loki helped get chairs and things set up for them by Dove's request, assisting the owl faunus to get things together. The faunus still finding small ways to keep Jin's rapt attention here and there with how she moved, draping her bare legs over the arm of a chair when she sat in it so that they hung over the side and Jin could see them outlines by the fire from where the dragon stood back with Dove.

Jin's stare was broken by her cousin poking fun at her, "Geez try not to drool so hard won't you before everyone knows your thoughts."

Jin flushed lightly and turned, "Huh?"

Dove laughed. Now that the dragon was pulled back to awareness, Dove could tell she had something she wanted to say. The woman sighed, opening the beer in her hand as she spoke evenly, "Ok, out with it. I know you didn't hang back with me here for fun. What do you want?"

Jin rubbed the back of her neck, a bit embarrassed to be so obvious or to be so noisy, "So… you like being a victim then?"

Dove's face scrunched in distaste and she took a long drink from the bottle before responding, not wanting to be rude to try to keep this new found peace between them, "Wow that's a really stark way to ask that question."

Jin frowned but Dove continued before the younger woman could bury herself further, "I think you have the wrong idea here. That's not quite… it's a bit more complicated than that. I would've thought you of all people would get that."

She poked a finger into the exposed talon scars all over Jin's sides. Jin felt bad now, "Sorry that was kinda not what I meant…"

Dove took another sip and sighed, "It's only annoying because you acted just like everyone does when they find out. Like it's some sick situation or there's something wrong with me. This is why we don't even tell people we are together. Everyone just gets weird about everything after that just because we have an unconventional way of behaving with each other. When I tried to tell Mom she tried to convince me I deserved better because all she could understand was the surface level way we are rough towards each other. I let it go and figured there was no reason to even try to tell Dad."

Jin watched Loki, the woman being her usual rugged but energetic self with her teammates, stirring up a bit of trouble. Dove and Loki were not conventional in any manner that was true. Outside of the scene she saw that night, Dove also very often had a very harsh way of speaking to Loki and Loki in turn often was clearly pushing Dove's buttons to rile her up or otherwise just being a terrorizing handful for her partner.

They just seemed more like two people stuck with each other. Dove could see the dragon thinking and closed her eyes, "Right. We just, that's just how we show each other affection. And it works for both of us really well. Before each other, we were both constantly lonely and unsatisfied, never able to make a real connection with anyone because people just didn't understand us. And the bedroom stuff. I just found I was only satisfied when someone was taking from me rather than trying to appease me. Much like you, pain is also just a thrilling part of it that heightens it all. I actually don't like it when I'm not in that scenario. It's specific."

Dove could see the doubt and thought on Jin's face and continued, "But whenever we finish, Loki is the most attentive lover I have ever known. She always becomes gentle and caring, taking intense care of every mark and injury so I can relax and come back from that high safely. She spends the entire time during very conscious of every injury and touch, making sure it's light and simple so I can recover after. I don't want the feeling to linger outside of the sex. And I can promise from experience when I'm not into it she stops. I don't know why it's what works for me. I spent a long time being ashamed of myself. But she made me feel better about it and accept myself for it."

She set a hand on Jin's shoulder, "I know she's awful all the time so it's probably hard to believe and I bet you have doubts thinking I'm being used by some predator but really, it's not like that just trust me."

Jin nodded, not even noticing she was tense. She and Dove weren't friends but the sense of justice inside her was flaring up at the prospect that Dove might actually be in unknowing danger. She relaxed. Dove took another drink from her beer and nodded her head over, seeing Loki eyeing her with a glint in her smile.

They joined everyone else. Jin leaned over the chair and ran her hands down Spadix's arms lightly to tease her, "How dare you tempt me with those legs miss."

Spadix just blushed and pulled a leg up, pushing Jin off playfully. When it was dark, Ruby came out with burgers for everyone and a chicken burger for Spadix. Ruby and Weiss stayed inside to eat, giving them all space. Unlike their last summer vacation, the Rose family didn't feel a need to hover. All the younger adults were no less than 19 and didn't need to be chaperoned like children, Ruby and Weiss more than aware the lot were perfectly old enough to indulge in anything they felt like doing amongst themselves with no interests to disrupt that.

These were the years of youth worth having fun and making mistakes should they so desire and at least they were in a safe place to do so. Of course they had no intentions of telling Blake, Yang or even Winter any of that either.

The group were having a good time after they ate, sharing their own mission stories, Dove and Loki having more riveting ones to tell with two years more experience then the rest. It made the younger team feel better about their last mission when they heard of the older partners' own hard times throughout the years. The group wound down and put the fire out, heading inside. By this point, both Loki and Dove had been drinking a bit, some of the others having had a drink or so themselves.

When they all moved inside, Loki was grinning darkly and stepped into the living room area, staring at the empty bottle in her hand, "Hey… why don't we play some party games yea?"

Dove glared at her, knowing this was dangerous, her voice carrying a warning, "Loki…"

Loki waved her off, "No no nothing like that. Too many of you are related, that'd be weird. No, I was thinking more like… Never Have I Ever but we spin to see who gets to make the next statement so it's always fair and random. It's a fun game to learn about people babe."

Indi, ever inquisitive, quickly walked over to join, down for the idea. Sterling sighed, watching them move the couch back some for floor space and joined in. Jin and Spadix watched Dove to see what she would do first, knowing Loki better than the others. The woman shook her head but walked over, "I know I'm going to regret this.."

Loki ran off to get everyone another beer, though Spadix only held hers, not really sure she wanted to drink at all while everyone else indulged. They all sat in a circle and Dove gestured to the bottle for Loki, "Well go ahead and spin first since it's your idea but Loki I swear to god if you land on me and ask anything crazy I will hurt you."

Jin noticed a spark in the devil's eyes as she spun it, "Don't tempt me Dove."

As it spun, Indi explained the rules. Whoever it landed on would make a statement starting with the namesake of the game and if you had done the statement before you had to put one of your ten digits down. Whoever lost all their fingers first lost. The bottle stopped pointed at Loki.

She chuckled and Dove just groaned. They all held up their hands with fingers and thumbs extended as Loki cockily glanced around the circle, eyes landing on Spadix, "Never have I ever been bent over and railed."

Spadix choked. Loki was clearly one of those players who got more fun out of exposing people's secrets to the fullest. Dove let out a gross grunt as she lowered a finger. Loki also lowered a finger but she was smirking with pride almost. Spadix quickly lifted the bottle and took a long swig of the beer before her face went sour at the taste, staring at the floor with red cheeks as she lowered a finger.

Indi snickered, having not heard that story yet but otherwise no one else lowered anything. To avoid doubles, if it landed on the spinner they agreed to rotate to the person to the left. Indi leaned over and gave it a hearty spin. When it stopped, it landed on Sterling. Not wanting to also be an ass to his teammates, he simply said, "never have I ever cheated on a test."

Loki booed him as she was the only one to lower a finger at first before Indi also lowered one, "It was an accident actually but I did do it."

Dove shook her head as Sterling spun, "you don't need to explain you know. The point of the game is usually to embarrass you."

The bottle landed on Dove. she sighed, "Never have I ever had sex with a guy."

Loki put a finger down and so did Jin. Sterling frowned and lowered a finger as well. Indi was shocked, "Sterling really?!"

He groaned, "I was having a curious phase and he was a really feminine bottom!"

The group laughed but Loki was staring into the owl, flooded with curiosity about the outlier of the group. Dove spun and it landed on Jin. Jin thought for a moment before smiling, "Never have I ever bought a sex toy."

There was a shared murmur of laughs. Spadix quickly swigged another large sip of her beer and grimaced again at it as everyone but Loki lowered a finger. Shakily, and full of deep embarrassment, Spadix lowered a finger, mumbling, "Jin I hate you…"

Jin flushed a bit, having forgotten it would target the owl as well when she said it, merely trying to catch Dove. The group was a bit surprised at Loki and Indi at this question. Indi laughed, "just because I don't find people sexually attractive does not mean I don't have urges."

Loki just shrugged, "Never needed to, people I fuck usually always have toys already or go buy them for the fun with me."

Dove was glaring daggers into her partner as Jin gave an apologetic smile and spun the bottle. It landed on Loki again. The eager grin on her face was still taunting the owl, "Never have I ever rode a sex partner."

At this Spadix tensed and squirmed, downing her beer and stealing a sip of Jin's to gain courage as she lowered a finger. Jin, Loki and Dove also lowered their fingers. Loki gave it a spin. It landed on Spadix. In an urgent attempt at any payback to the others, "Never have I ever lost my virginity before 16."

A grunt was heard from Jin as she lowered a finger. Dove and Loki also lowered their fingers though only Loki seemed to be enjoying this one. Dove and Jin both seemed to have irritated looks on their faces. Spadix was blushing deeply staring at the dragon, "Wait really?!"

Jin just looked away and frowned, "Yea what of it?"

Spadix now understood a lot more things about their sex life and it made her very uncomfortable at first, or maybe it was the alcohol in the tiny faunus's system. Spadix spun the bottle. It landed on Indi, who was starting to be a little buzzed after her third beer and giggled, "Never have I ever made out with a faunus."

Jin watched Spadix grumble and down Jin's beer suddenly as they both lowered a finger. Sterling also lowered a finger and so did Indi. The room was a bit surprised that neither Loki or Dove did. the two just shrugged, both basically admitting, "Never had the chance present itself."

Indi gave a spin and it landed on Dove. At this rate, she was curious about the owl's behavior and really wanted to poke at her as well, a cocky grin, "Never have I ever been knotted. not by the real thing or a toy."

There was silence as Spadix was the one to lower a finger. She let out a low whine of embarrassment and hid her face feeling all the eyes on her. Dove just chuckled lightly before spinning. Around the room, Jin, Loki and Spadix were now all down to one hand of digits left. It landed on Sterling and in the spirit of the game he also posed a dirty question, feeling his own alcohol hitting, "Never have I ever been penetrated by anything phallic."

Jin, Dove, and Spadix all lowered their fingers. It was a rare occurrence for this game for Loki to not be the one drastically losing. Dove was also now down a hand, but Jin and Spadix were both losing. Sterling spun and it landed on Loki. Spadix was refusing to look up from the floor anymore at this point. "Never have I ever denied sex."

Indi pouted as she put a finger down. Sterling and Spadix also lowered a finger. To their surprise so did Dove, the woman speaking calmly, "Once I knew what I liked it was easy to turn down what didn't suit my interests."

Loki chuckled, teasing her, "Well you are right gorgeous babe. I can guess you got suiters that didn't deserve you."

Dove just waved her off to get the game going, bottle spinning again. The bottle landed on Spadix. She squirmed a bit and sighed, "Never have I ever… caused a lover to bleed."

She lowered a finger, but she could feel the glaring daggers from Dove as Loki and Jin also lowered a finger. At this point, Spadix was in the lead for the loser with only two fingers left but she really just wanted the game to end even if it meant she lost. She felt so exposed. She spun and it landed on Dove. The woman gave a light groan of irritation and tried to get back at Spadix, "Never have I ever had to put in extra effort to make a partner cum."

Jin looked around. No one put any fingers down except Spadix. She looked at her sadly and tried to say something, "Spadix… that wasn't what ha…"

Spadix cut her off looking away. She was down to a single finger left. She could only think of the time in the shower. She had been struggling with her own inadequacy at the time as it was. Jin just sighed softly as the bottle landed on Indi. The curious girl looked around the room. Indi couldn't really be faulted for her statement. She wasn't really thinking about it; she was buzzed and lost in the fun. She was going to regret it though, "Never have I ever kissed a friend while dating someone else."

Spadix's eyes widened. She could lie. No one but Indi would know. This was the worst way for this topic to come up in front of her girlfriend. She was sure Jin would forgive her but they had just had so many rocky moments she wasn't ready to bring that up. She didn't really consider anything she did during her heat like that really her fault. She hung her head, not bothering to lower her finger as she stood up.

No one else lowered a finger. It made her feel even worse. She stood there for a second before whispering, "I lose…"

Jin was staring at her confused and shocked as the owl gently hugged herself with her own arms. Loki was laughing at the revelation but Dove didn't think it was all that funny. She knew about it even if no one else here knew. She had seen the information in a text between Sterling and Indi that time she stole his scroll. She reached over and shoved Loki hard to get the woman to shut up as she noticed Spadix was crying.

Indi noticed as well and it was painfully sobering, "Wait… Spadix I didn't mean to…"

The owl darted off for her room. Jin stood up quickly, "What the hell's going on? Indi!"

Indi was apologizing profusely. She honestly thought she was going to get Loki with that one or even Dove. She hadn't intended to hurt her friend or single her out with something so personal, "Jin I honestly thought you knew… She… didn't tell you?"

Jin looked pissed off and also hurt. What was even happening? This didn't add up; she knew this didn't make sense. Sterling rubbed the back of his head, "Jin… sit down. It's not what you think. Indi sat with her during her heat cycles to take care of her from the wound the first time and because she didn't trust herself to stay in the room the second time. She wasn't coherent when she kissed Indi those times she was just struggling and in a daze."

Jin was growling. Indi held up her hands, "I swear I stopped her every time. It wasn't like that! She couldn't stop herself. Don't be mad, I know she probably feels awful…"

Loki and Dove were quiet now. Loki had enough faunus friends to suddenly feel a swing of sympathy. Dove just didn't think it was fair. In a moment, Jin reached and swept Indi up by her shirt collar, eyes glaring into the human's. She already struggled with some moments of jealousy when it came to how Spadix used to snuggle into her rather than the dragon when the owl was hurting. This wasn't helping.

Sterling and Dove quickly shot up, Dove pulling on Jin as Sterling got Indi out of her grasp. Dove was gripping Jin hard, "Hey cool it hot head. It's not her fault your girlfriend was too randy to control herself and think clearly. Don't those things hurt and stuff? She was probably suffering."

Jin snapped towards Dove but stopped listening. She yanked her arm free and grunted, "I'm not… I'm mad because you hurt her Indi. Yea i'm pissed she kissed you but I can forgive that bullshit knowing it was during her heat. but how dare you hurt her like you just did. You're her closest friend!"

Indi could only grab her own arm in shame. Jin stormed off away from the rest of them to go find her loved one. She got to the door and tried but it was locked. She could hear the sobbing behind the door and her heart sank. Jin gently rested a hand and her forehead against the door, "Little Bird… it's me… please… open the door."

A sobbing, "Go away" was all she got in reply. Jin let out a saddened breath, "I'm not upset Little Bird. Please let me in."

When she got no response she closed her eyes. A form appeared next to her. When she looked over it was Loki, the usual grin nowhere in sight. She actually looked sincere as she pulled a hair pin from her long pink mane and took a knee, gently picking the lock. As she worked she spoke, "That sucked yea? She could probably really use your comfort I'm guessing."

Jin just stared. They were not friends. They were getting along because of Dove but they would never be friends. The missing pieces on her tongue swear to that. But she was still thankful and a bit surprised, "Did Dove send you to do this?"

Loki shrugged, "Nah. I sort of figured she wasn't going to let anyone in but I don't think that's the right move right now. I may be crazy but I take taking care of your lover seriously."

She stood up after the lock clicked, gesturing at the knob, "Wha la."

She then watched Jin turn the knob before walking off without a word. Jin slipped in, closing and locking the door behind her. She slid over closer, Spadix balling up even more as she got closer, whimpering, "Please go Jin… I'm sorry ok. I… I was going to tell you but it's all kind of fuzzy and I didn't know when was a good time. I know you two don't get along all the time and I've seen you get jea…"

She was stopped by a dip in the bed behind her and strong warm arms scooping her close and tight. She gripped at those arms weakly and turned her face into one, crying harder. Jin kissed her head and shoulder softly, "Spadix… Little Bird it's ok… Indi explained. I don't hold anything against you, please stop crying. You are breaking my heart."

Spadix just trembled. She already always felt bad about doing that to a friend just trying to make sure she was safe and ok. She couldn't admit though that a part of her didn't intend to ever tell Jin. She didn't know how she would react or what she would do to Indi. She didn't want the dragon to abandon her either over that. Jin gently turned her around and kissed her face, nose, down to her lips sweetly, "Spadix. Stop, please. I promise it's ok."

The owl whimpered but the sobbing did slow to gentle crying, body shaking. Jin sat back and placed loving kisses along her neck and parts of the exposed bite scars as Spadix calmed, "Just let me take care of you. Can I show you how much I don't care about all that?"

Swirled pools looking deeply into amber ones. Spadix could still feel shame coating her body. Jin could sense it, leaning to kiss her lips again, "Can I take care of you? Like only I can?"

Spadix didn't respond. She didn't feel like she deserved it right now even if Jin forgave her. Even if it wasn't really her fault. Jin sat up and gently pulled Spadix into her lap and arms, soft hands pulling her shirt away and off her head as her lips found her bite scars and kissed sweetly at them.

The owl whimpered and tucked in close to Jin, a hand pressed against the dragon's strong stomach, her head rested against her neck, hearing the pulse in her throat. The heartbeat was soothing the small faunus as Jin's hands slid along her back, one hand moving to run up a thigh.

Every touch was sweet and gentle and soon Spadix was trembling for entirely different reasons as Jin's fingers found their way to her core, softly stroking the covered skin as teeth nibbled lightly at her nape. Spadix's breath hitched. She closed her eyes, legs parting unconsciously in response to Jin's touch. Jin just held her close, gently stroking her folds through her underwear.

The dragon was whispering sweet nothings and encouragements into Spadix's ear and soon she caved, hand running back and forth along Jin's muscles as she whined needily. Spadix shifted, pulling Jin's hand away before straddling the dragon, struggling to meet her eyes. Jin lifted her chin lightly and looked into her lover's eyes with warmth and softness in her own, hints of hunger also shining through. Spadix stared for a while with wet eyes before ducking her head to rest on Jin's shoulder, burying her face in the dragon's neck.

Jin held her close, the owl kissing at the hot skin apologetically as she shifted around in Jin's lap, thighs tensing. Jin could sense her hesitation, could tell she felt unworthy. Jin rubbed her back softly and licked her ear, whispering, "I know that you love only me. I know you would never do that on purpose. I'm so glad if it happened it happened with someone who would never take advantage of you. Spadix, I love you. It's ok."

Wet tears coated Jin's neck as a soft whimper muffled against the skin, Spadix slotting her hips over Jin's and grinding down, hands gripping strong biceps with talons scratching softly at the skin. Jin shivered and shifted her hips a bit to feel the contact better that was pressing into her. She watched Spadix for a bit, eyes soaking up the sight of the owl's hips rolling into her own and began to pant into her lover's shoulder, "L-Little Bird… unf… can… can we take the layers off between us please? I need you closer."

She heard the reluctant whine but Spadix pulled away. Jin helped her oth the rest of her clothing before Jin pulled herself out of her own clothes, Feeling the owl press back close into her, hips rolling against her abs at first with soft moans before Jin shifted the owl's hips to better make contact with her own needy core,gasping softly.

She held the small faunus close, biting into her nape and groaning against the skin as talons scratched angry red lines along the muscles of her upper arms. She could feel how wet they both were against each other and how Spadix was beginning to tense up, talons starting to draw blood. Her teeth sunk in deeper, light traces of the taste of copper in her mouth that made jin jolt and squirm combined with everything else.

They both grew tense, heat burning in their lower bodies at the coming cross into the abyss of pleasure as they moved faster against one another. Jin could hear the whimpers and moans of the owl in her ear as the talons dug in while the small faunus fell over the edge, dragging a deep moan and jerk out of Jin and pulling her over as well as if dragging the dragon along with her.

As they came down they slowed and finally relaxed, Spadix refusing to remove herself from being tucked into Jin, still feeling like she had let her lover down. Jin just held her as she leaned back in the bed, letting Spadix rest on top of her as she rubbed her back and let out soft, calming sounds. Spadix tucked her knees up against Jin's sides and submitted to the soft comforts, distress dragging her down into sleep. Jin just kissed at her hair and kept soothing her until she too dozed off.

Downstairs after the two left, Dove turned to the bottle and grabbed it, "alright that's clearly enough of that. Loki why everytime you play this game someone ends up with their feelings hurt?"

Loki just shrugged, "Babies, the lot of them!"

Dove shoved her away, "Go do your thing. I know you want to."
