Surprise! Back again.
Hope you're ready for this chapter. Will Soap be able to study up on all the factors of Remnant; Dust, Aura, Grimm, Faunus, Huntsman, Huntresses, etc... in two weeks time. As well as train himself in how to use his very own custom made weapon, all while trying to fit into a world he doesn't quite understand yet.
Without further ado... let's get it (:
CHAPTER TWO: Beacon's Resident FNG
"Damn, pretty posh place yah got 'ere..." muttered Soap as Glynda or Miss Goodwitch, led him down the hallways of the schools dorm rooms. Now dressed in a plain black T-shirt with a Beowolf print on the front and the same tactical pants and steel cap boots.
"I'm sure you'll find everything you'll need in your room, although it's only temporary I trust you will take care of your temporary housing?" asked Miss Goodwithch, turing slightly to look back at Soap.
He nodded in understanding, carrying a bag filled with some clothes and toiletries he bought earlier in Vale. He'd been released earlier that morning from the schools infirmary and per Ozpin's suggestion, he went with Goodwitch into Vale to pick up anything he might need.
After exploring Remnants currency lien, as well as spending a good hour badgering the store owner to drop the price on some of his goods, Soap was ready to get himself set up in his temporary dorm room.
"Here we are." said Goodwitch as she turned to face the young man.
Standing at 6'5 Glynda towered slightly over the shorter teen, with Soap being a cool 6'2. But what he didn't have in height, he more than made in terms of muscle and mass.
Glynda too had noticed that the seventeen year old had more muscle than other teens his age, she choked it up to his physique being the way it was due to the intense militray training he must have went through. Although Glynda tried to justify that she was only studying his body to get a better grasp of his physical capabilities, yes it was just that.
She had also noticed that Soap had several tatoo's and scars along his arms, hands and neck. If it was any other teen she'd scold them for their apparent missuse of their body, but Soap wasn't every other teenager, he was a veteran soldier and a captain no less.
Glynda was finding it hard to call him out on any mistakes he makes, seeing as he had the same mentality and maturity of an adult, despite looking like a teenager. She often reminded herself that on the inside, he was an adult just like her and the other staff at Beacon.
"You can use your scroll to unlock and lock your room door, so make sure to keep it on you at all times." reminded Glynda as she used his scroll to show him how to unlock the door, "I understand that Ozpin had already placed both our numbers into your scroll already?"
"Aye, that he did." nodded Soap as he took his scroll back from Glynda and placed it in his pocket. "He said to call either of ya' if I'm needing help with anythin'."
"And you should listen to the gift horse. Despite Ozpin admitting you into the school, you still have to do the initiation and not to mention that when classes begin you're going to need to work even harder since you're still ignorant to the going on's of Remnant." Glynda reminded Soap sas she stepped aside to let him pass through and enter the room.
"It's currently 3 in the afternoon, feel free to head to the cafeteria whenever you're hungry."
"Hm."
Glynda smiled slightly at Soap before she closed the door and departed to her office in order to finish some last minute paper work.
Soap sighed before setting his items on one of the rooms beds before flopping down next to them. The dorm room itself was spacious, with a large window located in between the four beds along with a tabletop for studying. But other than that the room felt empty... and lonely.
Soap shook those thoughts out of his head as he began removing the things he'd bought earlier today, and began lining them up on the bed.
"Alright, let's see her..." After Soap removed everything he began checking off the things he'd bought to make sure he didnt forget anything, "... clothes; check, scroll; check, fuck ton of textbooks; check, school supplies; check, box of smokes; double check, scotch; triple check."
It had taken a good ammount of convincing to let Goodwitch allow him to get a box of cigarettes and a few bottles of scotch as well, even going as far as to say that it helped calm his nerves (which wasn't exactly a lie), after much convincing she said that she'd only allow him this once since school hadn't started yet.
Taking a bottle of scotch in one hand and a cigarette in the other, Soap propped himself on top of the desk as he ripped the cap of the bottle open with his teeth and took a swig of the scotch, smacking his lips as he glanced at the logo on the bottle.
"Grimm Tomb", it read beside it were the words, 'Vale's Finest Scotch'. Soap shrugged as he took another swig, not as strong as what he was used to but it'd do.
He was actually planning to head to the as soon as he got library and then the cafeteria but...
"If there's one thing I've learned about studyin' from school, is it's better to do it with a loose an' open mind rather than being all stiff about it." muttered Soap to himself as he took one more swig before closing the cap and placing the scotch on the table before picking up his scroll and leaving the room.
Soap knew he needed to research as much as possible about Remnant, since he just very recently found out about the element known as dust, which the Huntsmen and Huntresses use for their ammunition when fighting Grimm.
It dawned on him that even though Remnants technologies were more superior to that of regular Earths, their industrail concepts were lacking.
While walking toward the library Soap pulled out a vial of ice dust and began to stare intently at the white crystal in his hand. While shopping in vale Goddwitch took Soap to a dust shop conviniently named 'Dust Till Dawn', in order to buy some dust for him to experiment with later when he crafted his own weapon (per his own demands since he didn't want to owe Ozpin his weapon as well).
While going through the many types of dust lined up infront of him, for some strange reason he felt the need to buy only these two types of dust in particular, ice dust and gravity dust. Although he didn't know why he felt he should buy the two dust types, he figured he might as well trust his gut.
He planned to begin making sketches of his weapon tomorrow and maybe to a little experiment on the ice and gravity dust. He'd been given free reign by Ozpin to use the schools workshop to his hearts content.
Despite all the strings Ozpin was pulling for his sake, he still couldn't fully trust the man after a single day. Trust wasn't something Soap handed out freely, it was a two way buisness. "It's not that I don't trust the ole' man, it's just that he reminds me of Price and... Sheperd."
Ozpin had the calm and collected demeanor as his close friend and comrade Price, but Soap had the feeling that he was also hiding something, something big that might one day bite him in the ass as well as Soap himself and everyone else Ozpin held dear... just like Sheperd.
"Hm, this must be it." Soap stood in front of the schools library, upon opening the door he was taken aback by the size of the room and the book shelves themselves. "Oh, god. I'm gonna kill myself..."
He could already feel his fingers cramping from opening the ton's of books he needed to read.
"Oh well, no time like the present." Soap put a determined face as he strode to the history section, the least he could do was study up on as much as he could.
Beacon Dormitories, 3 hours later...
Soap sat alone in his dorm room as he silently ate the cheese burger he got from the cafeteria. On the outside it might have looked like he was deep in thought, but he was actually praising the burger over and over in his mind.
"Good god, I've been' eatin' MRE's for the longest bloody time. Always eatin' some mawkit* excuse for food whenever we go runnin' off somewhere else, oh if only the lads could see me now."
As Soap finished up his cheeseburger, he turned back to the table to complete his experiment on the vials of ice and gravity dust he bought. He trusted Glynda and Ozpin's explaination on the uses of the different types of dust, but he trusted direct appliction to be more informative than hear-say.
"Hmmm... let's see what I'm workin' with ere'." picking up the ice dust, he loaded it into a standard dust round gun that he got from the schools storeroom, because apparently transforming weapons were all the rage with Huntsmen nowadays, so much so that only security and police still used standard dust round guns.
Upon inserting the dust round, he noticed that minor change in temperature.
"Well, it's pretty clear' that ice dust freezes an' immobolizes targets, but because it's basically frozen water which could also act as a shelid a' sorts." Soap refrained from firing in the room since he wasn't ready to be on the recieving end of Goodwitch's scolding.
"Welp, I' could find a good use for this." Soap tapped his chin in though as he began writing some notes in a sketch pad beside a crude drawing of what he wanted his weapon to look like.
Picking up a gravity dust round he placed it in into the chmaber of the gun and felt for any noticeable changes. And sure enough he could faintly feel the distortion of gravity around the barrel and chamber of the gun.
"Seeing az' it distorts gravity in any given area it's shot at it could'be very useful for snipin', similar to ice dust. Usin' gravity dust to weigh down targets is an easy way to line up sittin' ducks for other blokes ta' handle.
After writing down the necessary notes and tips on dust, Soap layed down on the bed to rest. Taking out his scroll he decided to go through the social medias since those were some of the places where information was plenty.
Skimming though random video's on MyTube, (Soap deadpanned when he first saw it) he came to a news update regarding the White Fang. Upon reading the headlines a scowl formed on his face as he clicked the video titled, 'White Fang Strikes Again; Orphange Burned To The Ground As A Show Of Force Against Vale's Council!"
"Lisa Lavender here live on the scene of what appears to be another White Fang Attack." the anchor woman stood infront of a burning three story building surounded by police and fire fighters, "Everyday the former faunus right's movement have been getting more and more violent with their messages, pertaining to 'Making the humans see reason through more extreme methods' have been getting increasingly out of hand as of late."
"Fuckin' dobbers*!" Soap had a hateful look on his face as he watched the police and fire fighters trying to calm down the neighbors and people gathered aroung the scene, while the fire fighter and paramedics did their best to treat the survivors of the fire.
"Will this be the only orphange hit by the White Fang, are even our children safe from these faunus extremists and will nothing be down to address the growing concern for the White Fangs deeds. This is your host Lisa Lavender, signing off."
Soap switched off his scroll as he tossed it across the bed. Hearing about the White Fang reminded him of Makarov and his army of crazed Russian ultranationalists, the two were strikingly similar in terms of their goals and what they would go through in order to acheive them. Although Soap considered the White Fang less threatening in terms of how organized they were, he knew that in time they may become a very dangerous terrorist group.
He couldn't exactly pin all the blame on them completely, it was also the fault of the racist humans. Mainly speaking, the Schnee Dust Company or the SDC.
Upon first finding out about the White Fang, Soap investigated further only to find out that the faunus were treated as less than humans on many parts of Remnant. And some faunus desperate for equality and peace, created the White Fang which was shockingly a peaceful protest group. Although upon falling under new leaderships they adopted a more... extremist way of obtaining equality. Through fear instead of trust.
He felt sorry for how the faunus were treated. When he went with Glynda into Vale and first noticed the extra appendages of the faunus, he wasn't gonna deny that he did find it partially freaky. But upon thinking about it, the only difference between faunus and humans was the occasional cat ears or wolf tails which to him wasn't enough reason to treat them any differently.
He viewed the Faunus struggles to be very similar to how the Scottish were treated with the British in the middle ages. Although violence did evidently help the Scottish in the end, he speculated that it probably wouldn't go as smoothly for the faunus as it did for the Scotts.
Groaning softly Soap stood up to switch off the lights and flopped down on his bed to catch some winks. Tomorrow was more Remnant study and weapon crafting.
"I hope Ozzie atleast' found some leads on how I got 'ere. Even though the chances of getting back are seemin' slim there's nothin' wrong with keepin' and open book." said Soap as he closed his eyes, thinking back to what was left of his friends on Earth; Nikolai, Yuri, Price...
"Tomorrow's a new day..."
1 week after Soaps arrival on Remnant...
Beacon's Work Shop
"BLOODY BAMPOT*, FUCKIN' DIDDY* BOLLOCKS!" Soap's swears echoed around the empty workshop as he picked up a rag and wrapped it around his left hand, cradling it carefull as he continued cussing under his breath.
Sitting alone in the workshop with a black tank top and basketball shorts, Soap's back and biceps glistened under the few lights that lit up the small room where he sat in front of a work bench lined with tools and gun parts.
"Fuckin', I can practically hear Gaz and the other basturts' laughing off in heaven somewhere..." muttered Soap as he continued to cradle his injured hand.
He was currently putting the finishing touches on his weapon, although due to his own carelessness he ended up with both his middle finger and pointer with severe frost bite from the ice dust. "I should'a lowered the dust output before takin' the measurments, I'm such a' bleedin' glaikit*."
Activating his aura Soap used it to heal up his fingers, stretching and pulling at them to make sure everything was working properly.
"Who knew this aura stuff could be so' useful." thought Soap, still amazed by the numerous benefits having an aura could grant. He unlocked his aura only two days ago by Goodwitch and was instructed to learn how to use aura to heal wounds, as well how to control it to act as a sort of sheild to mitigate attacks. He'd already learned to use aura to heal, because surprisingy according to Goodwitch he was like a walking aura battery. As for using his aura as a sheild... that was a work in progress.
Getting up from his seat Soap placed all the toolls back on the work bench as he grabbed a cloth and drapped it over his weapon, stretching a bit Soap turned toward the door, deciding he needed a break Soap left the workshop and headed to the gym.
On his way there he passed by several second and third years. Ozpin had told him that a few of the older students would be arriving to Beacon ahead of time, in order to train up and get back into the mood of thiings for when the school year began. Soap had no problem with any of the students, the only problem he had is when any of them pointed out his accent.
Soap knew he spoke differently compred to the perfect American English speakers, so when people pointed out his, and I quote, "Strange, musty accent." Soap would either grit his teeth and ignore what they said, or cuss them in his mother tongue and lie saying that he was complimenting them.
Upon arriving at the gym, Soap spotted two other people there as well. The Gym had barely been used by any of the arriving students, they would mostly go out and train with their aura and semblences. Soap understood the benefits of aura, but he wasn't going to be complacent and overly reliant on it like most. He was a soldier first and a Huntsman second, so he often went to the gym to train to keep his body in peak physical condition since he was now 9 years younger.
As Soap approched the bench press he spared a glance at the two gym arrivals. They were both girls. One had on a pair of glasses and her dark brown hair had been tied behind her into a pony tail, she had light brown textures around the tips of her hair. Soap tried to not stare at her shapely legs since she wore tight fitting black and gold short shorts and a thin and tight fitting black sports bra. She was rather well rounded with creamy muscular thighs and a slightly muscled abdomen. Her muscles also did little to take away from her curves. Breast size; E cup.
She also wore a confident grin as she relaxed against the treadmill, a hand placed on her hips to further emphasize their lush swell.
The other girl didn't dress as outgoing as her friend (something Soap was grateful for since he didn't want to begin gawking at the two of them), but the standard dark gray leggings and blue tank top also left little to his already open imagination. The girl had long brown hair that she let fall freely behind her back and two rabbit ears atop her head. She was of a smaller built, but the shape of her legs showed that she worked out. She had a timid and shy look to her added together with the bunny ears and she was fucking cute. Her brown eyes shone brightly as she listened intently to whatever story her friend was telling her. Breast size; DD cup
"Jezus, ever since I got 'ere I've noticed that Remnant is filled to the bloody brim with beauties like those two." When Soap had first been to Vale he was unltimately caught off guard by the vibrant hair and eyes of Vales citizens, like who has purple hair! He actually liked the variety of people seeing as Scotland and by extension England were rather dreary places.
Soap layed down on the the bench press and began lifting the standard weight for special forces, 315 pounds. While he was on his tenth, out of the corner of his eye he notcied the two girls approach him. "Hey, I don't think I've seen you around here?" asked the woman with the glasses as the bunny faunus stood idly to her side, also seemingly curious.
With a grunt Soap placed the weight back on the holder, the girls were impressed, only one other team mate of theirs could lift roughly the same ammonut and he was a huge mountain of a man, while the guy in front of them was average height at best.
"Ya do know it's rude ta' ask things withouth introducing yerself'" said Soap with a small grin, the girl raised a brow at his accent before subtly glancing at the bunny faunus, who mirrored her expression.
"Oh yeah, that was kinda rude of me. The names Coco Adel, and this is my partner Velvet Scarletina." the now introduced Coco grinned down at a seated Soap, "And you are...?"
"Name's John Mactavish, but my friends call me Soap." Soap answered simply. "Soap? Is that his nickname?" both Velve and Coco thought at the same time, "And referin' to your earlier question, I could ask the same about you."
"Oh. Well to answer your question were part of the second year team CFVY, which I'm the leader of. The F and Y of our team are out and about and me and Velv here decided to stop by the gym to get some weights in. But we didn't exactly expect to find a stud in here as well." Coco slid down here glasses and gave Soap a suggestive wink.
Soap raised a brow at Coco's casual flirting, it wasn't like he wasn't used to things like this. Despite being in a task force with the best of the best of each military branch, Soap still managed to have some flings here and there in his free time with many different women so he understood best on how to deal with casual flirting.
"I could say the same about you and yer' friend over there, because usually there's barely anyone in the gym. Not that I'd mind two pretty lassies like yer' selves bein' here." Soap shrugged slightly with a smile. He meant it as both a compliment and a way to repay Coco's earlier remark.
Vulvet blushed upon hearing the blue eyed boy call her pretty, whilst Coco grinned back at Soap already liking his attitude.
'This guy's a real casual flirt. He didn't come off as too creepy or too dismissive, more polite than anything else. But I'd be lying if I said he wasn't some good eye candy~" Coco subtly began to look over Soap physic and she really liked what she saw.
His tank top exposed his glistening hard muscles as Coco's eyes raked over two tattoo's on both his left and right biceps. Although she didn't know what the symbols on his arms were she couldn't deny that they made him look more attractive in her eyes, the one on his left bicep was a design of a sword with angel wings while the one on his right was the same sword and wings with a skull over the hilt and two laurels extending from either side of the blades tip curving upward towrds the skull.
There was also a fine deep print on his right bicep underneath the first tattoo with the numbers 141.
"So, are you a first year?" asked Coco as she snapped herself out from studying the young mans muscles, "Cause I've never seen you until now, did you get in early?"
Under normal circumstances Soap would've kept the converstaion strictly need-to-know and would've ignored Coco's question opting to either find and excuse to leave or to not answer. But upon realizing that she was a second year at Beacon and that as soon as he started training to be a Huntsman she'd become his senior, he decided it would be better to get to know his seniors in order to have some allies in the school when it began.
"Ya could say that due to some... crazy occurences I manged to find myself lucky ta' have caught Ozpins eye. And so he decided ta' let me stay here at Beacon for the meantime since I didn't have anywhere to go." answered Soap.
Coco hummed in response before she glanced back at her silent partner, "You know I noticed that you accent sounds a lot like Velvs, although yours sounds a whole lot rougher around the edges-"
"COCO!" Velvet, with her face flushed red called out her partner, "You can't just say that to people."
Soap's eyes widened slightly upon hearing her speak, her accent sounded British/Australian. Upon hearing it Soap was struck with a wave of nostalgia as he though back to his former teammates and friends back in the SAS; Wallcroft, Griffin, Burns...
He snapped out of his reminiscing when Velvet began to speak to him, although it was plainly obvious she was trying her best not to stare to hard at his muscles and instead focused on his nose.
"S-sorry about her, Coco sometimes just asks things like that out of nowhere."
"Nah, I don't mind. My accent is a bit strange, and hearin' another person speaking the same actually makes me feel a lot better." Velvet blush ceased lightly as she tilted her head questionally. "Bloody hell she's cute." Soap snapped himself out from his thoughts as he began to explain to the two young women.
"Bein' in a school where everyone speaks in roughly the same way can make things rather bland, but when I'm around I become the strange one. People are used to the normal so when someone slightly different shows up, ya can bet their gonna dogpile on 'em." Velvet nodded in understanding, when she first arrived she was teased for both the way she spoke and her faunus traits, it was only her team that accepted her for the way she was and she would forever be grateful to her friends.
"You bein' here since last year makes me think that you went through the same thing, right." Soap's voice was soft when he talked with Velvet, her rabbit ears lowered slightly as she nodded. Coco then decided to speak up on her friends behalf.
"Yeah and as you can tell her being a faunus didn't exactly help the situation." Coco said with a bitter tone, she then noticed Soap's hands balled into fists when he heard her say that.
"I mean it happened a long time ago so it doesn't really matter-"
"It does." Velvet looked at Soap as he cut off what she was trying to say, "Bein' made fun of for being you isn't right. Just because yer' different from people doesn't give em' the right to bully and discriminate against ya for it. Faunus or human, what's the difference? We all live our lives an' die regardless of race so should it really matter if someone has an extra pair of ears or a tail. People who mistreat faunus out of fear or out of self validation are the worst of them, an' if I ever saw one of em' I'd let em' know."
Coco and Velvet were admittedly taken aback by his small speech. He spoke with confidence and conviction, he truly believed in what he said. Velvet stared at Soap in awe, never had she met a human like him.
Sure, not everyone mistreated faunus but none of them spoke out and defended the faunus for without personal goals in mind. Despite being a human himself Soap viewed the faunus as equals and he wasn't afraid to say it out loud. Velvet felt a warm feeling grip her heart as she gazed into his peaceful blue eyes, she released a small but sweet smile that caused Soap to blush slightly.
"Yeah... you're right. I guess I gave up on helping myself and looking on the brighter side, but hearing you say you didn't care about a person's differences, I-I don't know but I think there might be hope for people and faunus to exist together after all."
"I'm glad lass, and if anyone gives ya shit for bein' a faunus or yer' accent," Soap cracked both his knuckles as he grinned dangerously, "I'll bust their skulls in for ya."
"Ha! You're great company you know." barked Coco as she hit his back playfully, "You know if your free later today wanna come with us into Vale?"
Soap scratched his chin in thought before nodding, "Aye, I got me some free time."
"Cool, and hand me your scroll for a second." Soap handed his scroll over and Coco proceeded to input both her and Velvets numbers in, "There, now you got two beautiful girls numbers."
Soap chuckled at Coco's antics as he took his scroll from her, "Are you sure you're not too busy John, we don't wanna impose." said Velvet as she shyly averted her eyes, her face blushing slightly.
"Aye don't worry about it, and no need to call me John. Didn't I say my friends call me Soap."
"You want us to call you by your nickname?" questioned Coco.
"More or less, bein' called John make me feel old." joked Soap, although he was partly serious.
"Well, if your cool with it. Soap~." purred Coco as she leaned forward slightly giving Soap a clear view of her breasts smushed snuggly together and a clear path down the center of her cleavege.
"Don't make me regret allowing ya' to call me that Coco," Soap was grateful for all the mental and physical training he went through, because if not he'd be pitching a tent right about now. The hormones in the gym room seemed to be reaching their peak, and Soap hoping to defuse the situation stood calmly and stretched before addressing Velvet and a dissapointed Coco.
"I'll see ya ladies later, I got some things ta' do. I'll meet ya at the gates when yer' ready to leave." Soap gave a two finger salute as he walked off.
"Haah~ Hate to see him go, but love to watch him leave." said Coco, licking her lips as she studied Soaps retreating backside. Normally she wouldn't be as suggestive and obvious with people that interested her, but something about the black haired young man attracted her to him and made her blood pump and her heart beat faster. He was given extra points for being sweet and kind to Velvet.
Speaking of the rabbit faunus, Velvet looked longingly at the direction where Soap disappeared to, grinning Coco slung an arm over her partners shoulder and began to tease her. "Aw. Sad that your crush left without giving you a little goodbye kiss." Velvet's face turned a deep shade of red as it looked like steam was coming out of her rabbit ears.
"W-what?! Co-Coco don't say things like that!" she stuttered while pulling her ears over her face to hide her embarrasment, "I-I mean that wouldn't be particularly bad if he did..." Velvet whispered the last part to herself before going into another fit of blushing.
Soap was completely ignnorant to the fact that instead of making allies of the two second year Huntresses, he instead planted a different kind of friendship and affection.
Outside of Beacon in the Emerald Forest...
Day time.
"Okay, safety locks workin' fine, the shift mechanism doesn't seem to be playin' up, dust gear is good too. Okay..." Soap muttered to himself as he stood in a clearing of the Emerald Forest checking over his weapon.
Two days had passed after his chance meeting with Velvet and Coco, and with their help he managed to complete his weapon in time. During his two days hanging out with the two girls he learned a lot about the two and about how Huntsmen operated. Coco was a true fashionista, he remebered when he asked them if he could help him design a combat outfit, Coco went absolutely ballistic. He had absolutely no say in the making of his combat outfit, and he learned it was best to let Coco deal with fashion since he had absolutely no sense of fashion so to speak.
He winced as he massaged his arms, thinking back to the mountains of clothing equipment he had to carry as he followed Coco around Vale looking for the things to make his outfit as well as when he had to strip almost bare as Coco took his measurments. If he didn't know any better he would've thought Coco used that as an excuse to check out the Scottsman in detail, but they say ignorance is a bliss so he was better off now knowing her true intentions.
He also managed to get closer to Velvet as the two bonded a bit over Coco's fashion craze, he wasn't ashamed to admit that he thought both girls were hot.
Now standing in his brand new combat outfit he picked up his weapon and placed the compact weapon over the sheath on his back.
Soap now stood in a mainly black long tailed jacket that stopped precisely over his knee's, it had several straps over the front that he used to wrap the jacket tighter around himself along with several leather straps around his chest. He wore plain black leather pants and his signature steel toe cap boots, the jacket had several blue lines running over his shoulders, the tips and back of his jacket tails and the cuffs of his sleeves. The inside of the jacket was a dark red, giving him a rather intimidating apearence were he to oepn up his jacket.
A small pocket opened at the top of his back behind his neck where a hood sat snuggly, it was to protect his head during times of rain or to hide his face slighty if he wanted to remain anonymous. (A/N: Picture Shay Cormacs Assassin robes for context.)
His weapon, in it's compact form, was the shape of a folded crossbow. The hilt faced upward to make it easier for him to grab it, the top of the hilt was in a small cross shape, while the body of the weapon was bulky and black colored and had two slots on either side for loading dust cartridges. Two blades extended from the end of the hilt upwards with the body of the weapon sitting tightly between the two blades, the blade on the right was a colored a pale white and the left balde was a light purple respectively.
Satisfied with his equipment he took one last look at the school before trudging into the Emerald Forest.
Cliffside of Beacon...
Around the same time.
Ozpins stood with a tablet in his hand as he watched Soap do the finishing touches on his equipment before heading into the forest. Glynda stood beside him as she stared impassively at the screen, although there was a hint of concern in her eyes as she watched Soap enter the forest. They were using the camera's set up in the Emerald Forest to watch Soap as he tested out his weapon.
In the short time the young man had spent there he was already well liked by the Beacon staff, he was polite, respectful and above all, kind.
Ozpin had noticed Soap spending a lot of time with the leader of team CFVY, Coco Adel and her partner Velvet Scarlatina, "The young man certainly knows how to attract people," mused Ozpin internally.
"You know you could have told him to use Beacons training room instead of actually heading out to the Emerald Forest to hunt for Grimm." said Glynda, glancing at Ozpins blank face.
"Even if I did, I'm sure he would've said otherwise." replied Ozpin, "Besides, he's been cooped up in the dorms for a while. It would do him some good to release some of his pent up stress."
Glynda winced slightly as she remembered seeing Soap in the gym by himself in the middle of the night, beating the gyms sandbag to mush. He seemed to be in a daze as he muttered several names under his breath as he wailed away at the training equipment. She managed to catch the names Sheperd and Makarov. They had noticed that Soap had been showing subtle signs of PTSD, although not enough to warrant a visit to a hospital it was still concerning to see the young man suffer.
After hearing the war crimes that both Sheperd and Makarov had commited, they understood that there was only so much the young man could keep inside before he broke down.
"I just hope he doesn't go overboard." sighed Glynda.
Ozpin remained silent but he agreed. "Mr Mactavish is an exceptional individual, he is what most would classify as ISTP; Introverted, prefering introspection and self reflection. His Sensing nature makes him practical grounded and attuned to the present moment. As a Thinking person, he relies on logic and analysis, especially during intense situations. And lastly his Perceptive side allows him to adapt quickly and think on his feet. He has all the charecteristics of either a great leader or an amazing team mate."
"I hope you will succeed Mr Mactavish, I really do." said Ozpin to himself, but it didn't go unnoticed by Glynda as she too wished the young world travelling Scottsman luck.
Back with Soap in the Emerald Forest...
As Soap walked through the tree's his thoughts wandered back to his world, and soon his mind was racked with questions. "Did Price kill Makarov? Is Yuri still alive? Did Kamarov manage to infiltrate Makarov's ranks? Are the Americans winning? Did the Russians beat the Americans? Is Price alive? Is Makarov dead? Did Makarov kill them?"
Soap, without warning, sent an aura enhanced punch to the base of a tree, cracking it at the base and sending- it falling backwards. He began doing breathing execises to calm himself, until recently he had been having nightmares about his world and the wake of destruction he had left it as. He wanted to return, he needed to return, but the more time he spent on Remnant, the more he wanted to stay and that scared him.
He was a soldier, he had trained, fought and lived the life of a soldier. So to suddenly end up in another world with no clear way of returning, he was stumped on what to do. Being a Huntsman was only a means to an end for Soap. If he became a Huntsman then maybe he could find a way to return himself, bringing his newfound skills and weapons to aid his comrades in taking down Makarov and-
Soap mentally punched himself, he was not thinking straight. Here he was in the middle of a forest crawling with monsters that would gladly rip him a new hole, and here he was having a mental break down. If either Price or Ghost were with him they would either call him out or beat his head with their hands to make him think straight, so taking a deep breath Soap locked in.
Right when he readied himself he heard the rustling of bushes on all sides of him. His negative thoughts must've brought the nearest Grimm in the area straight toward him.
"Alright ya sleekit* bustarts, come out and face me!" Soap shouted as he pulled his weapon from it's sheath. Brandishing it infront of him he pressed a button on the hilt that immeditaly expanded the weapons body outwards causing both blades to retract slightly as the body began to change shape, taking the form of a long tipped rifle with two revovler slots on both sides above the butt of the gun with a long range sniper scope and red dot sight on the aim of the sniper. (A/N: Picture a Barret with a red dot sight, although slightly thinner with two long single sided blades resting on the body above the trigger, and extending toward the tip giving it a sword like appearence.)
"Beira* here needs some blood on 'er blades and bullets!" said Soap as three Beowolves burst from the canopy running toward him. With a calm face Soap stood his ground as he aimed down Beira's red dot sight as he fired three ice dust rounds hitting the Beowolves point blank in the chest, neck and head respectively. The ice dust froze and shattered their bodies on impact, effectively killing the three Grimm as they faded away. The revolving slot on the right side of the sniper glowed white as he ejected the spent cartridges and put in three more ice dust rounds.
Without wasting any time he flicked a switch below the safety that changed his dust round from ice to gravity, causing the revolving slot on the right to stop glowing white as the left began to glow purple. Two more Beowolves leapt out followed by two of the bear like Grimm Ursa.
Soap aimed once more as he ignored the two bigger Grimm as he shot at the two fast approaching Beowolves with the gravity dust. The two Beowolves suddenly came to a halt as the purple hue of gravity dust pulled them down, effectively locking them in place. Soap flipped his sniper around in one fluid movement as he pressed another button causing part of the body of the gun to fold back in, as the gun butt took it's original hilt shape. The two blades immediatly burst upwards as the white and purple blades joined together with the upper half of the body, effectively turning it into a half purple, half white greatsword.
Without wasting any time Soap immdiately used his aura to give him a boost as he appeared in front of the two Beowolves in a flash, using the left side of the sword he cut through the bodies of both Beowolves instantly. While he was busy recovering from his swing one of the Ursa managed to catch up and swung a claw at him, Soap manged to turn and deflect the hit but sending him back a few metres back. As regained his balance he took a stance against the two Ursa.
The first Ursa roared at Soap, seemingly trying to intimidate him, but Soap responded with nothing but a cold glare. The first Ursa charged at him once again, followed closely by the second. Soap held Beira with both hands as he lowered her onto his side, taking a ready stance to draw.
As soon as the first Ursa was in range, Soap swung the right side of his blade upward releasing a wave of ice encasing the lower body of the first Ursa in an icy prison, it's counterpart was caught slightly off guard as it's momentum carried it toward a waiting Soap. Getting close to the Grimm, Soap swung upwards cutting off the Grimms momentum as it's jaw was sliced cleanly in the middle. It roared in anger as it swiped at the human in front of it, he weaved the attack and brought the left side of his blade down on the Ursa's neck, with the same glowing hue surrounding the purple side of the greatsword.
The pull from the gravity dust caused the sword strike to become significantly heavier as he decapitated the Ursa in one swift movement as it turned to dust. Turning to the trapped Ursa, Soap shifted Beira to it's sniper mode as he unloaded all nine ice dust rounds into the head of the Ursa, effectively killing it.
Soap scanned the area as he stood ready with Beira in his hands, after about a good minute Soap finally released a sigh as he released the tension from his body. Grinning he held up his sniper as he began to run his hands along it's smooth black and blue streamlined body, "Well I'll be damned, this thing work's like a bloody charm."
Shifting it back to it's compact mode, Soap headed back to Beacon, satisfied with the days results and the test run of his new weapon, Beira. "I might be tootin' my own horn but, I'm feeling pretty confident for when the initiation rolls up."
Glynda stared slightly wide eyed at the fight they had just witnessed, while Ozpin had a small smile on his face as he sipped from a mug that came out of nowhere.
"How did he make something like that?" asked Glynda to no one in particular, she was surprised that he handled the sword/sniper rather well despite only learning about Remnants weapons a week ago, "It seems a lot like Ravens."
"I must say I am impressed." said Ozpin as he watched Soap on the tablet make his way back to the school with a smile of accomplishment on his face, "This young man just keeps on surprising me. I hope you're ready Mr Mactavish, because the world waits for no one."
Ozpin was satisfied to wait and see how the story of this young man would play out. Would he be like the countless talented individuals who he watched fall in the face of adversity, or would he persevere and leave his own mark upon the world of Remnant.
"Only time will tell." Ozpin whispered as he took another sip from his mug.
And done...
Whew, that was really tough to write. I'm afraid Soap's Semblence won't be revealed until initiation, but hey least we got some slight charecter interaction and the reveal of Soaps weapon, Beira. The fight against the Beowolves and Ursa wasn't as long because he was just testing his weapon, the real fun begins at initiation where he finally interacts with the main cast of RWBY. Anyway, thanks for reading and I'll see you nest time on; "A Soldier, a Rose, a Dragon, a Princess and a Cat."
How will Soap's chance meeting with a loveable scythe weilding cookie lover and her buxom blonde sister, a prim and arrogant heiress and a quiet mysterious black haired beauty. Will he be able to make friends that will have his back or will he just make enemies instead?
(A/N: This is to explain the meaning of a few Scottish terms Soap used in the story in case you were confused.) :)
Mawkit; a Scottish term meaning disgusting and/or covered in dirt.
Dobbers; a Scottish slang for penis, often used as an insult.
Bampot; an unhinged idiot.
Diddy; a spineless idiot.
Glaikit; someone who lacks common sense
Sleekit; someone who is sneaky or disingenuous.
(A/N: Beira, Soaps weapon is actually the name of the Scottish Goddess of Winter, though she sometimes goes by Cailleach. It was actually an accidental discovery when searching up designs for Soaps weapon, but I figured it would fit since he'll be using mostly ice dust in his fights. Just some short Scottish trivia.)
See ya next time :)
