Chapter Nineteen
A/N: Thank you Warlord1981 for being my new beta reader.
Lena's POV
I cringed hearing Alex yell. Chuckling, I pulled out my phone to text the poor blonde. I do not envy you right now. -L
After picking up some coffees, I went to visit J'onn at his new business. The bell rang as I entered the office. "I'll be with you in a moment." His back was to me.
"Take your time. I'm in no rush." I took a seat at the large table in the center of the room.
"Oh," J'onn stepped down the shelf ladder. "I didn't realize you were back from Argo already."
"We got back about twenty minutes ago," I paused, pushing a to-go cup towards the older man. "Is Lex still at the D.E.O.?"
Taking a seat across from me, J'onn took the offered cup. "He is. Still ranting and raving." Taking a long sip of coffee, he debated his words. "He's truly gone mad now. I think killing Lillian by accident broke something inside him. We had to put him in a straight jacket and keep him mildly sedated."
The thought of Lex like that made my chest ache. "I don't want you to wipe his mind because I know you have reservations about doing so. However, he's too dangerous to leave alone. And we can't just keep him contained indefinitely."
"Have you talked to Kara about this?"
"Not yet. I was going to bring it up tonight. Cat Grant has been trying to track her down." It would almost be better if someone killed him.
"I don't need to read your mind to know you're thinking about doing something rash," J'onn eyed me.
"I'm not going to do anything. I told Alex I would stay away from where he's being held."
"Good," he nodded. Our conversation was cut short when the bell rang. "Hello, how can I help you?"
The man's panicked eyes fell on me. "Oh, Miss Luthor…"
He looks familiar. Marketing department, maybe? "Johnston, from marketing, correct?"
"Yes," his voice cracked. "Have you…have you heard from your brother? S-sorry if I'm out of line. It's just…no one has seen him since the attack."
"He is currently hiding somewhere. I have a few agencies working alongside the authorities."
Something flashed across the man's face. "Good," his voice trailed. "He's a good man. I don't think he meant to harm anyone."
You have no idea who Lex actually is. "If he is found, he will be given an evaluation and given a chance to prove himself." Thank God I'm a good liar when need be.
"I'm sorry for your loss, Miss Luthor."
"Thank you," I smiled. With a nod, the man left. "He's an extremist, isn't he?" My gaze fell on J'onn. "I know you read his mind."
Sighing, the man agreed. "He is, yes. There's a message board of Lex followers who are trying to track him down. Others want to help him because they think he's innocent."
Pinching the bridge of my nose, I groaned. "And others who think I'm trying to run him into the ground? Probably killed him myself?"
"Yes." Finishing his coffee, the man continued. "Brainy is keeping an eye on the website around the clock."
"Good. I'm glad someone we can trust is on this." Finishing my own, I stood. "Do you have Eliza's contact information?"
"I do," J'onn seemed slightly thrown by the sudden change of subject.
"It's hard keeping up with my train of thought since you can't read my mind anymore, isn't it?" I grinned.
"A little, yes," he smirked. Pulling out his phone, J'onn air dropped Eliza's information.
"Thank you," I smiled. "I need to ask her, and you, an important question."
"Oh?" His brow rose.
"I want to marry Kara. You're her Space Dad." Pulling the necklace out from under my shirt, I continued. "We got married on Argo. The timeline there was sped up because The Council was pressuring her parents."
"After giving you one of their most precious resources, I'm not surprised." J'onn stood. "You have my blessing." Pulling me into a hug, he squeezed.
"Thank you." Thankfully I'm getting used to hugs now. Gathering my things, I smiled. "See you at dinner this week?"
"Of course."
As I entered L-Corp, security and some employees greeted me as usual. A few others quickened their pace when they saw me. Those employees were the ones who I knew were Lex Loyalists. Using the private elevator, I made it to my floor quickly. Since it was after five, Jess wasn't at her desk.
Closing the door behind me, I turned on the tower lamp and my desk lamp. Sitting, I started looking through emails. Hearing a cape zip by, I smiled knowing Kara was also hard at work. Pulling out my phone, I dialed the number J'onn gave me.
"Hello?"
"Miss Danvers, this is Lena Luthor. I got your number from J'onn. I hope that's alright."
"Lena! It's so nice to finally speak with you. I'm sorry for your loss." Eliza's voice was warm and motherly. Something I rarely heard from Lillian. "Please, call me Eliza."
"Eliza, it is. I'd love to actually meet in person soon. Originally, it was supposed to be last year but everything happened all at once."
"Yes. I'm glad Kara was able to get you the help you needed. She would have been distraught if The Council denied her request."
I can't imagine what my life would be like right now if they had denied it. "Do you have any breaks coming up? I will take care of transportation."
"That's appreciated. Let me look at my schedule and get back to you. Is this your personal number or office?"
"Personal. Feel free to use it if you ever need to contact me."
"I will. I need to run. Talk again soon?"
"Of course." Especially considering you're going to be my Mother-in-Law. "I'll talk to you soon. Have a good evening."
I wasn't able to put my phone down before Andrea's face lit my screen. "Evening. How are you doing?"
"Drowning! Do you mind if I steal Kara a bit more the next few days? She studied under Cat for two years and can help get things in order until she gets back into town. A lot happened over the weekend."
"It sounds that way. Sure, you can," I paused. "Do you need a sounding board?"
"Do you mind?"
"Not at all." Leaning back in my chair, I propped my feet up. "Go ahead."
"Like I said, I'm drowning. I can't run two companies at once. Cat and I talked and she's willing to take over CatCo but keep me on as the COO so I can focus more on Obsidian. Once the bugs are fixed with the new lenses and I launch, I'll make a clean break from CatCo. I still need their marketing department for now, which Cat knows."
"She called you out, didn't she?" I smirked knowingly. That woman can smell an agenda from a mile away.
"She did, yes," Andrea grumbled. "Cat should be here in a week or two. I hope you can handle not seeing your girl as much for that long," my friend kidded.
"Yes, I can handle not seeing Kara as often," I paused. "Smart ass." Andrea laughed wholeheartedly and our conversation went onto lighter topics. Mostly small talk about CatCo, Obsidian, and L-Corp.

Feeling a familiar whoosh of air move through my apartment, I looked up to see Kara's smiling face. "Just in time for tea." I pushed a mug towards the blonde as she approached. "So, I've been told you'll be stolen from me a bit for the next two weeks."
Chuckling, Kara slid onto a barstool. "I figured Andrea would call you eventually." Sipping her tea, the blonde hummed in approval. "I'm glad Miss Grant is coming back. I understand ads and puff pieces are needed for the magazine but she did it so well."
"I agree. It will help both of them out in the long run. Cat is bored out of her mind and Andrea can't run two companies at once. I had Sam helping at L-Corp when I was at CatCo." A light flush crossed the reporter's cheeks. "What?"
"It was nice seeing you at CatCo everyday. You being my boss…"
Knowing that blush, I leaned forward and purred, "Do tell." Her heart is pounding. I knew I had an effect on her but it's nice knowing just how much. "Because now that we're together…" I rounded the bar and turned Kara to face me. "And you're my wife…" The blonde shivered as I toyed with the chain around her neck. Kara shuddered as I scraped my nails along her scalp behind her ear. "Why don't you enlighten me, Miss Danvers?"

It was spring before Eliza could make it to National City for any decent amount of time. Since it was also spring break, Sam and Ruby were able to visit too. Both Danvers sisters were excited so we pushed our Ireland trip until the summer. Since Kara had a spare bedroom, Eliza would stay at Kara's while Ruby and Sam would stay at Alex's apartment. Having Kara preoccupied with Eliza and Alex would give me time to work on clearing out the spare bedroom in my apartment.
While everyone was busy with work or visiting friends, it gave Eliza and I time to bond. "When Kara was a teenager and she saw Alex dating, I was worried. I wanted Kara to have that type of connection with someone but knew it would be difficult for her."
"I can't imagine." Bringing two cups and a pitcher of lemonade to the porch, I set everything on the small table. "Dating as a teenager is difficult to begin with. Add in super powers and it's probably impossible."
"Thank you," Eliza took the offered glass. "I'm sure dating was hard for you as well?"
"You have no idea," I laughed bitterly. "Mother paid off a few potential boyfriends because she thought they weren't good enough or she wanted me to focus on my studies. When I was sent to an all girls boarding school, dating wasn't exactly an option." Eliza's head tilted in an unspoken question. "Kara was the first woman I had feelings for. I found others pretty but I never thought about it farther than that."
The older woman debated her line of questioning since she only knew of my public persona and what Kara had told her. "Did it surprise you? Falling for Kara."
"A little, yes. There was never a "lightbulb moment" for me. I knew we were close and that I enjoyed our time together but I thought that was how close friendships went. When I was jealous of Mon-El, I thought it was because Kara was spending more time with him instead of me." I paused, chuckling to myself. "And then I bought CatCo because it meant so much to Kara."
"Mmhmm," Eliza tried to hide her knowing smile. "Because that's what best friends do for each other." All I did was smirk. "I'm sorry," she laughed. "It meant the world to Kara that you saved CatCo. She didn't realize how stressful it would be seeing you everyday and unable to explain why she would run off suddenly."
"Yes," I nodded remembering the first few weeks at CatCo. "That was an interesting time." The only reason I didn't have someone tail her was because she was my best friend.
"She really did hate keeping the truth from you," Eliza sighed. "Countless nights she would call and be torn about telling you."
"Honestly," I ran a hand through my hair. "It's probably for the best that I didn't know who Supergirl was when she was fighting Reign." I shuddered remembering Kara being dropped from the building and crashing into the gravel below. "I wondered where Kara was but so much was going on at the time. I assumed she was on an assignment."
"That was rough," the older woman sighed. "Even with Kara being the strongest person on the planet, I still worry about her."
"Same," I agreed. Finishing my glass, I looked over the city. "When I was attacked by those men, I thought I was going to die. I wanted nothing more than to tell Kara how I felt. Even if it was with my last breath."
"Alex filled me in on everything that happened on Argo," she shook her head. "I truly don't know what would have become of Kara if you died then or via cancer. Alex and I knew she had feelings for you long before she did. I wasn't sure how you felt so I never nudged Kara to tell you."
"I'm a firm believer that things happen the way they're supposed to even if we wish they were different. So while I hate that she lied to me, and I to her," I paused. "I don't know what today would look like otherwise. If I was never attacked, the cancer wouldn't have been found, I wouldn't have gone to Argo, and wouldn't have been changed."
"Kara told me you acclimated relatively well."
"Thankfully, I could afford the food budget and to replace everything I broke. So much shattered glass," I groaned. "Explaining why my fridge door was ripped off its hinges was fun."
"Kara hates toasters even now," Eliza chuckled.
We sat in a comfortable silence for a while. I need to ask her now. I doubt we'll have more time like this. "I want to marry Kara."
"By Earth standards," Eliza eyed me. "I noticed the necklaces and remembered research I did when Clark was older."
"Yes, by Earth standards."
"You have my blessing." A bright smile tugged at Eliza's lips. Placing a hand on mine, she continued, "Welcome to the family."
"Thank you." Before I could say more, a red and blue blur zipped by. We chuckled as said blur came back and hovered a few yards away.
"Hey!" Kara smiled.
"Supergirl," we answered.
"Enjoying the afternoon?"
Eliza glanced at me. "We are. Just getting to know my future Daughter-in-Law." The blood drained from Kara's face. "I know about Argo."
"I was going to tell you, I swear," she grinned nervously.
"I know," Eliza nodded.
"I'm cooking everyone dinner tonight. Do you think you and Alex will be able to make it?"
"You're cooking? Of course!" Tapping her earpiece, Kara slid back into her Supergirl persona. "Yeah, I'm heading back now." Smiling, she shrugged. "Duty calls. Alex and I will be here as soon as we can. Sam and Ruby are excited. They should be here around seven."
"Excellent. Fly safe." We watched as Kara flew off. Turning my attention to the older woman, I tilted my head towards the door. "Mind keeping me company while I get Kara's room ready?"
"Sure."
The apartment was filled with the smell of food and the sound of laughter. It was clear that something was blooming between Sam and Alex. They're acting like Kara and I did at the beginning. Soft touches and lingering glances. Looking towards the blonde, I thought about those times. At least now we don't have to hide how we feel. Walking behind where Kara sat on the couch, I wrapped my arms around her shoulders and kissed the top of her head.
"Awww," Alex cooed. Laughing at our snickers, she stepped away to answer her phone. The agent's heart rate elevated. "Okay, I'll let them know." Everyone became quiet as Alex rejoined us. "Lena, can I speak with you?"
There's only one reason she'd look at me like that. "Does this deal with Lex?"
"Yes," she nodded slowly.
"You can say it." Kara placed her hand on mine. "Everyone here is family and they'd find out eventually."
"An agent and Lex were killed. The agent that was shot was trying to break Lex free. Everyone was under orders to use lethal force if Lex was to escape." The longer Alex explained what happened, the number I became. At some point, all I could hear was a long buzz.
Kara turned in her seat and spoke to me but everything was muffled. Strong arms wrapped around me. "Lena?" Her voice and warmth finally registered.
Blinking everything into focus, all eyes were on me. "Is…was anyone else hurt?" I have so many questions.
"No, thankfully. But I'm needed. We need someone else to make the ID."
"Yeah. Um, everyone, feel free to stay as long as you'd like. There's plenty of food and I don't want to ruin a good time. " Turning my attention to Sam, I continued. "If we're not back before you leave, will you lock up?"
"Of course," she nodded.
"Kara-," I began.
"You know me better than that," she smirked. "You don't have to do everything alone anymore."
"Thank you," I breathed.
Eliza caught my wrist before I could walk away. "If you need anything, please, let me know."
She's so motherly. "I will," I tried to smile but failed. "Thank you."
