"Why are you here Captain? Where I work?" Angus asked.
"I'm not on any ship right now so you don't need to call me captain." Davenport replied. "And you can always call me Dav you know. Goddess know everyone else does."
"That doesn't answer my question ca- Dav." Angus said.
"I'm here," Davenport said. "Because I've a few errands to run in Neverwinter. Not to mention catch up with you and the others while I was in town as I always do. I hoped we'd all be having dinner together tonight or tomorrow at The Tacco-Bluejeans' place like usual if they were in."
The reapers were all out on a call today, but Angus doesn't interrupt.
"The Wavehumper's docked in the port, and she might as well get a freshen up of paint and varnish while the weathers sunny. Plus, I want to find some info about the Ilse of T'pwer. Maps and the like." Davenport continued. "I figured there might be something in the library."
"Lucretia's Library?"
"Hmmm." Was all Davenport said to that question. Angus put that fact on the back burner for now.
"And how did you end up at this tea shop?" He tried instead.
"To get a drink and take a break from walking. A very good cup of tea this." Davenport said, taking a sip. And wags a finger. "Any city you go, Angus, always find where the halflings drink. Not just the bars or inns either. I can guarantee you it's always the best ale, hospitality or food in town. that's your mote of captain's wisdom for today."
"Of all the tea shops joints in all of Neverwinter in all of Faerune, you walk into mine?" Angus pushed, unimpressed. He even has his Arms folded.
"Yes."
Angus made a Perception check. Davenport had made his own as set his cup back down again. Neither scored very high. Angus only got a five to Davenports eleven, so if playing by the rules Angus lost. But Davenport still talked first despite his better roll.
"Alright. I came here on Lup's suggestion."
"I knew it!"
"No, you don't lad." Davenport said firmly. "Three weeks ago- nearly a month now- she said if I was ever in Neverwinter, I should check out this place. I assumed it was because she knows I preferer it to your louder fantasy starbucks type of places. I still have the letter if you want proof."
"Why would I need proof." Angus frowned.
"Because I am surprised to see you here. Lup didn't mention you, and you working here, which is very odd. And you didn't say anything in your letters to me either. Yet you seem to think I would know you'd be here." Davenport said. "But judging by this annoyance from you that's not a good thing either. And what did Mrs Cosie mean by troublemakers? Which of them, or which combination of those six is it?"
Angus sighed and ran a hand down his face. Busted.
"Sorry Dav, sir. I didn't know you didn't know. I'm surprised you didn't get the whole from everyone else. Or hear the whole of their side of the story at Merles two weeks ago."
"Oh. I wasn't there."
"You missed the Barbeque?"
"Did you?"
"Yeah. Why did you?"
"I was delayed unfortunately." Davenport said stiffly. Then almost immediately corrected himself. "well. No, bad mix of anxiety and a patchy weather had me stuck further out to sea then I hoped. I wasn't having a good day and worried about it being so crowded. And then Merle said it was finishing so not to push so hard."
"That's why Merle already had food put aside!" Angus said.
Davenport nodded, "He had Barry abuse his reaper rift powers to bring some to me. And Barry opted to stay and have a beer, so it seemed a good trade off as any. It was nice to have a quieter catch up I will admit." Davenport said. Realisation dawned on him. "Which means I guess there was a reason why he was in no rush to get back? If you weren't there because of the same reason?"
"Yeah." Angus said and frowned. "Especially as Mr Barry gets seasick!"
"He hates hanging out on deck for long." Davenport agreed. "I thought it was a little odd at the time!"
"He won't even sit of Taako's surfboard if it's choppy. Or out on the jetty by Chesney's."
"I know. And yet Star blaster? Loop the loops? Never bothered him, strangely enough." Davenport puzzled.
"But you have never missed one, Angus." He continued, "Not even the time you had chicken pox! You came in your Personal shield of faith, didn't you?"
"Yeah…"
"So, what happened?"
Angus was silent for moment, wondering how to explain.
"A lot." He said." A lot happened sir."
"Well now..." Davenport said. "We've the whole afternoon to get through it my dear boy. and this lovely sunshine in which to enjoy some rather delicious lunch too. I find that's always a good combination for getting things off your chest, don't you think?"
Angus agreed. Sighed again. Then told Davenport EVERYTHING.
