While Jazz and Ceci bonded by returning a wayward ghost home, Danny did the same with Inferno, the half-ghost version of his father from Ceci's reality. Although they'd met at the multiverse Christmas celebration, they still hadn't gotten to know each other. As they rocketed over the neighboring forest adjacent to Peace Valley, Danny felt it was an excellent time to bond. "So, do these creepy woods have a name?" he asked as he quickly weaved in and out of the tall trees.
"They're called Watcher Woods which is a fitting description due to all the paranormal activity within them," Inferno replied calmly. This Jack Fenton seemed somber and less immature than in Danny's world. Danny glanced at his father's ghost self. His 6'5 father's physical body was still the same aside from the shaggy grayish-white hair in his human form. As a half-ghost? He had gravel gray skin, jet-black hair and beard, luminous jade-green eyes, and brilliant vermilion and ebony attire.
Danny couldn't stand it much longer, so he put the brakes on. "Okay, I know we're supposed to be looking for a wayward ghost, but what the heck is your deal, Dad? I've never seen you this glum, and you seem like you're holding back a lot of emotions. So spill it! What happened to you in this reality? Why are you so reserved? Did something happen? Please, I want to know!"
Inferno hovered for a moment in surprise. He was stunned that Phantom called him Dad. He knew he was this kid's father in another reality. Nevertheless, it still was a jaw-dropper for him. Ultimately he decided to give his son the condensed version of his story. "You might want to take cover since it's about to shower," Inferno forewarned him, to which Danny laughed.
"Are you kidding me? There is not a cloud in the sky! Why would it...huh?!" as a downpour started. Immediately the two half-ghost uncovered an enormous hollow tree to take shelter in. Inferno created a small blaze to warm themselves with, giving his son a sheepish look.
"Apologies about that, son. Sadly one of my curses is my emotions influence the weather. Periodically to an extreme degree," he replied uncomfortably.
"Wow! I've got a cold core, and that was challenging to learn to deal with. I can't imagine controlling your emotions not to provoke storms!" Danny gazed in disbelief at his hybrid father. How different was this version of him from the one in his reality? He was about to find out the shocking truth.
He poked the green flames with a stick before explaining, "I've provoked more then a few natural disasters. Which included an out-of-control forest fire, hence the name Jack Inferno. I genuinely don't wish to hurt anyone. Human or ghost, so I predominantly keep to myself."
"So you prefer self-isolation? You don't have anyone in your life?!" Danny looked bewildered. Sure, his dad didn't have companions in his world either due to being socially inept. Regardless, he was a lot more optimistic then this cynical dude. The gray-skinned hybrid looked incredibly miserable before resuming his tale.
"I'm on good terms with a few ghosts, but yes. I've spent my life as a half-ghost in seclusion. It's not like I had any friends outside of Vlad and Maddie. They didn't even visit me when I was in the hospital," he muttered bitterly.
"Bummer. You and the Fruit Loop had to experience that in different realities. So is there anything else I need to know, Dad?" his son asked him curiously. Again, Danny felt they needed to bond, feeling it was even more significant after learning how friendless his father was.
Inferno took a deep breath before revealing another hidden ability of his. "I can produce ghost portals, but I can't regulate where you'll end up on either end of them. However, it might prove beneficial if we locate who we're looking for."
"Yeah, any shortcut home would be worthwhile. Hey! It looks like the rain has stopped! So let's get back to finding who doesn't belong here, shall we?" suggested the white-haired teen.
The older hybrid smiled at his son. They took off looking for who didn't belong there. Unexpectedly Danny let out a squawk after witnessing a massive wooden ghost ship sailing across an enormous lake. He picked up his jaw before exclaiming, "Where did Youngblood get that ship?! I mean, that's even bigger then the one he used back in my world!" the young halfa sputtered in disbelief.
"I don't know who this 'Youngblood' is. But that's Captain Bloodbeard's vessel, the "Ripper," Inferno replied, to which his son looked bewildered.
"Okay, slow down! Who is Bloodbeard? And what the heck is a buccaneer even doing here in Wisconsin?! We're pretty far from the brimy blue!" Danny demanded quickly.
The adult hybrid shrugged before clarifying, "Well, he's got a few screws loose. He's obsessed with uncovering treasure. Spirit has a dozen stories about him looking for it, from the garbage dump to the public bathrooms at the playgrounds."
"You're pulling my leg, right? He's searching for treasure in a bathroom?!" Danny thought that had to be a joke. Because seriously, why would you look for treasure in a bathroom?
Inferno shook his head, "Afraid not, son. Let's see what he's up to. You mentioned that this "Youngblood" might be the one we're looking for."
"No doubt about it! Let's go find us a pint-size swashbuckler!" as father and son zoomed towards the Ripper. Their guess had been correct. Danny witnessed a pirate ghost resembling a bloodstained version of Disney's Captain Hook. The bloodstained fellow seemed to be bonding with his new 'son' as Youngblood looked up at him like a child looks at their parent.
"Arr! We need to locate some booty! Where do you think we should go, son?" Bloodbeard questioned his new 'son.' The little boy looked enthusiastic and eager to make his papa proud.
"We could dive into the water and look, Dad. Or there may be treasure in those woods beyond yonder! Either way, let's do this! I've never had a parent before! And I rather enjoy it!" the green-haired lad exclaimed happily. The bloody Captain then hugged the boy tightly, who didn't protest.
"Me too! I've always fancied having a son to carry on my legacy. Unfortunately never found the right wench! Ugh! Still, let's drop anchor and start scouring these waters for our booty!" as he raised him above his head happily.
"Ai, Ai, Dad!" as Youngblood went to inform the rest of the crew. Only to stop when he saw Phantom. "What are you doing here, Phantom? I don't need you spoiling my bonding time with my new dad! So scram!" he demanded like the brat he was.
"Youngblood, I get you to want to spend time with your new daddy. But you don't belong here. You need to come home!" Danny pleaded.
"No way! I'm staying where I am! And there ain't anything you can do to make me return!" he replied stubbornly.
Danny got ready to speak before he ducked as a bloody dagger was thrown at his head. "Leave my son alone, boyo! We're having some father-son time! And I'm not going to let you hurt my child!" Bloodbeard replied angrily.
"I don't want to hurt anyone! But by order of the Ancients, I must take Youngblood back where he belongs! The last thing I want to do is break up a family! But I've my orders!" Danny replied hesitantly, not liking how the crew looked at him and his dad.
Just when it looked like Bloodbeard would attack, Inferno stepped forward. "Bloodbeard, mind if we talk? Father to father? Since I don't need you decapitating my son."
"Since when do you have a son, bubblerbutt? I've never seen the likes of that white-haired whelp before!" Bloodbeard shouted furiously while his bloody beard dripped faster. It grossed Danny out, and he was fighting the urge to hurl.
"Let's talk over some rotisserie chicken and figure this out?" suggested Inferno. Sighing, the bloody pirate nodded. They all went to the Captain's quarters. Inferno calmly explained the current crisis to the vicious pirate. Along with the increasing danger due to Paradox's actions. He assured them that his son and Spirit planned to ask the Ancients if they could figure out a way for everyone to spend time together without threatening the multiverse after resolving the emergency.
Both buccaneers reluctantly agreed that order had to be restored. Yet they both threatened the ghost boy that if he didn't keep his word, they'd behead him before throwing his remains to the Kraken! The white-haired boy nodded fearfully before Youngblood followed him through a portal his father had created. Hopefully, it would take them home. This had been one bizarre father-son bonding!
