Tales from Roanapur

Part Seventeen

The meeting was held in the Yellow Flag. They paid Bao to close up for the evening, and had him there serving everyone.

Babalaika of the Russian mob sat at the 'head' of the table, an unlit cigar between her teeth.

Mr Chang was there, representing the Triads.

There were no surviving Columbians to show up, at this point. Even Abrego, the last head of the gang and a real survivor, had died.

The 'new' leader of the Italian mob was there. His previous boss had tried to use the murder twins Hansel and Gretel in a war against the others. Verrocchio had died horribly, leaving his minions holding the bag.

Ronnie 'The Jaws' was regarded as a bit of a snake, but a dangerous one.

'John Smith' was there representing the US East Coast mobs. The man had only recently arrived in Roanapur, and was there because of the Miami mob fuck ups that had occured around Greenback Jane. His bosses were VERY pissed over the counterfeit cash job going bad. He was also there to try for peaceable relations between them and the Russians and Triads.

"No Mexicans?" John asked, looking around.

"They were dealt with by our guests," Balalaika said dryly.

At the exact time scheduled, Bao let Tanya Degurechaff and her aide, Visha Serebryakov in. The short blonde was outwardly calm, but her eyes flickered around nervously.

"Welcome," Mr Chang smiled.

"Did you HAVE to blow the Columbians to hell?" Ronnie complained. "We had a business arrangement with 'em."

"They attacked us, we warned them we wouldn't tolerate a second time," Tanya replied calmly. "Then they tried again."

Ronnie scowled, but couldn't really argue that.

"Let's get to business," Balalaika said briskly. "We and the Triads are nominating the Germans to join our council."

"Opposed," Ronnie said flatly.

"Did you want the Germans to interfere with your plans, again?" Mr Chang noted. "If they had been in our council, we could possibly have headed off the conflict."

"Or not," Visha murmured.

Balalaika gave her an amused look.

"He's got a point," John noted. "And Ms Balalaika and Mr Chang would encourage them to negotiate, not blow crap up."

"I won't promise not to act to protect our interests," Tanya cut in, "but if we're here, there's at least a chance we might talk, rather than act immediately."

"Hmph," Ronnie grunted.

"I say let them join," 'John Smith' said, and after some arguing they agreed.

"First on the agenda, the ambush on the Church of Violence," Balalaika said.

"The Church can handle their own shit," Ronnie scoffed.

"Someone had the guts to ambush a team from the Church," Balalaika noted, "who's to say they won't hit you, Ronnie."

"Or any of us," Tanya noted.

"And it's bad for business," Mr Chang noted.

"Yeah, yeah...," Ronnie muttered.

Visha spoke up, "We also need to know who leaked the information on the Church's plans. And close that leak."

"Exactly," Balalaika smiled coldly.

The Lagoon made it back to Roanapur the next day, and were met at the dock by Greenback Jane. "Benny! Are you all right?" she demanded.

"I'm fine," Benny reassured her even as the Church members disembarked.

The survivors looked VERY pissed, and stalked off grimly.

"Hey, Eda," Jane called.

"Yeah?" Eda said flatly.

"If the Church needs computer help to find whomever jumped you guys, let me know," Jane said seriously. "This sort of shit shouldn't be allowed."

Eda looked at her thoughtfully then nodded, "Thanks."

"I won't even charge you full price," Jane added.

"Ha," Eda sighed as they headed off.

Rock nodded to Jane, and he and Revy went by.

"Everyone, don't get too relaxed," Dutch reminded everyone. "We may be moving out again pretty soon."

"Yeah, yeah," Revy sighed. She addressed Rock, "Yellow flag?"

"I could use a drink," Rock agreed.

As they left Dutch looked over his boat, taking in the bullet holes. "Shit," he sighed as he looked for the patch kit.

Sister Yolanda was waiting as they survivors arrived. "I'm sorry," Eda said flatly, "we had to leave Miranda behind. There was no option."

"I know," Yolanda answered, the older woman giving her a sympathetic look.

Irene followed Eda as she said, "TELL me we're going back to fuck them all up."

"Yes," Yolanda hissed.

"Damn right," Eda agreed. She paused, "Can we get...?"

"We'll contact the Thai government, get her body home," Yolanda agreed.

"Good," Eda said flatly.

As Rico and Irene headed into the church, Eda headed into her quarters, where she removed a special phone from here she stashed it. She dialed, waited.

"This is not a scheduled check in," her US contact noted.

Eda gave the usual code phrases, then explained what had happened. "Did we stumble over a US op?" she checked flatly.

"I...," the man started.

"And don't tell me 'need to know,' I nearly got shot," Eda said harshly.

"It is NOT a US op," her handler said. "They ARE connected to the Thai government, though."

"Shit. How?" Eda asked.

"Someone high up in their government is tired of Roanapur," he said bluntly.

"Do I need to be concerned about bumping up against US interests?" she checked.

"Ha!" her contact laughed. "Do what you want," he said, "just don't let anyone know your connected to us."

"Got it," Eda hung up.

"You shouldn't be up!"

Aya ignored Alexi, the young man having been asigned to nurse duty that day. She winced as she walked to the bathroom, "I am NOT using a bedpan, damn it."

"I..." Alexi started.

"I'll yell if I need help," Aya said as she closed the door behind her.

Aya paused, adjusting the night gown she was wearing to look at the wound. It was stitched shut expertly, and was only lightly reddish. It wasn't THAT painful, but she still felt frighteningly weak at times.

Aya finished her business, used the sink to leaver herself up and headed out.

"WHAT are you doing?" Erya demanded, the older woman scowling.

"Pissing, actually," Aya deadpanned.

Erya hurried over to help support Aya as she went back to bed. "You are SO stubborn," she muttered, sighing.

"No, really?" Aya smiled wryly.

"Hmph," Erya got her down. "Alexi, I'll take over for now. You can come back later."

"Yes ma'am," he nearly saluted as he left.

"GOD that boy makes me feel old," Erya muttered as he left.

"You look good for a grandma," Aya teased.

"Hush, you," Erya blushed, laughing. She reached into her bag, "I brought books for you..."

"Oh, thanks. I'm SO bored stuck in bed," Aya sighed.

"Well, you need to rest to recover," Erya patted her arm.

To be continued...

Notes: I'm PROBABLY going to do a short time skip, and get Aya out of bed.

Black Lagoon Vol 12 manga is out, so I hope to read the new volume soon, and maybe work bits of that into here too. We'll see.

Part Eighteen

"Well, fuck me," Eda blinked, recognizing the brown haired woman.

Mary Sue was, thankfully, not looking at her. The gunslinger was walking with a group of the recently arrived Germans, away from them.

"You know her?" Revy asked, frowning at her.

"We've ran into each other," Eda admitted.

Revy looked curious and Eda just shook her head.

It had been back in the US, when Eda was working for her bosses in the CIA under a cover identity. As far as she knew, Mary hadn't known she was a spook, but she couldn't be certain of that. And Eda was DAMN sure Mary would be wondering why she was here! Just what she needed, another complication...

"When are we hitting those bastards in Bangkok, again?" Revy demanded.

"When we can hit them with overwhelming force," Eda replied flatly. "They are fucking paying for killing one of us."

"Damn right," Revy agreed.

The two entered the Yellow Flag, the bar jumping as usual. "Hey, Eda!" Bao called, "There were some idiots trying to kill you."

"What, again?" Eda asked dryly.

"Ha," Revy smirked.

Bao looked less than thrilled as he told them about the three gunmen who had burst into the bar. "Happened while you guys were out of town," he added.

"Hey, they didn't try to kill you this time," Eda teased Revy.

"Oh shut up. Rum me, Bao," Revy ordered.

"Yeah, yeah," Bao poured for her.

"So, no ID or stuff on 'em?" Eda confirmed.

"Totally clean. No random crap in the pockets, even," Bao noted.

That smelled a LOT like a pro hit. Or semi-pro, since they hadn't scouted out the place or realized she wasn't in town.

"You pissed someone off recently?" Revy wondered.

"No one new, recently," Eda admitted, scowling. Was this some more crap from her field ops, over the years...?

"Beer the woman," Revy ordered, nodding to Eda.

"Yeah, I could use a drink," Eda sighed.

"I REALLY do not recommend you getting out of bed," the doctor complained.

"I'm fine," Aya said firmly, standing on her own and only slightly wincing, dressed in medical shirt and pajama pants.

"Uh huh," Balalaika said flatly. "Boris?" she waved.

The bear of a man grabbed at Aya, trying to take her by surprise. Gracefully she shifted, grabbed his arm and send him crashing to the floor.

"Ooof!" Boris grunted, flat on his back.

"As I said," Aya replied calmly, "I'm fine."

"Hold still," and Balalaika casually yanked up her medical shirt, examining the wound. It was red, still, but hadn't torn open and seemed fine.

"Usually people ASK before undressing me," Aya complained.

"Ha," Balalaika smiled.

"She really has recovered remarkably fast," the doctor muttered, impressed.

"All right," Balalaika conceded, "but take a week off. I don't want you risking ripping the wound open."

"Yes ma'am," Aya nodded meekly.

"And keep taking your antibiotics," the doctor reminded her before leaving. "We don't want to risk infection."

"Yes sir," Aya agreed.

"Get her some clothes," Balalaika ordered Boris, "she probably doesn't want to wander around in that."

"Thanks," Aya smiled wryly.

And soon, for the first time in weeks Aya strode out of Hotel Moscow headquarters, unaware that certain figures were watching...

"Well done," Erich Rerugen noted, having arrived in town to check in on their operations.

"We're keeping an eye on the smuggling situation," Tanya noted, "no other shipments from us have been hit."

"We still don't know WHO did it though," Rerugen noted, frowning.

"No, we know they're a outlaw group," Erya corrected, "but financed by someone in the Thai government. Why, not so sure yet."

"Probably a higher up tired of all the illegal money pouring through Roanapur," Tanya observed cynically.

"Or they want a cut," Erya offered.

Rerugen nodded, "Well, the money men do NOT want you going to war with them. Not unless it's completely unavoidable."

"I don't like it, but understood," Tanya nodded.

"All right, I'll be back in a few weeks," Rerugen said as he got up. He frowned, "Where is Visha? I usually see her..."

"Ah. She's dealing with another problem," Tanya said mildly.

Seeing the look on Tanya's face, Rerugen decided he didn't want to know...

Meanwhile, in another part of the city...

"KEEP YOU HEAD DOWN!" Visha yelled as she and Mary exchanged weapon fire with several members of the Italian mob.

"Aieee!" the Asian woman yelped, ducking as ordered.

"You better be worth this," Mary growled, dropping one of the attackers with a well aimed shot.

Visha shot another, and the gangsters began to realize they might be outmatched. "Fuck this!" one guy yelled, turning to run.

"No witnesses, Mary," Visha said as she shot the fleeing man.

The two gunned down the remaining dudes, then the three hurried off.

"Did you have to kill them?" Xinlin asked, the hacker known as 'Peking Duck' following them as they left the alley where the fight happened.

"Yes, if you wanted to get away from them cleanly," Visha told her calmly as she and Mary shed their disguising wigs.

Xinlin had contacted them covertly. She wanted out of her deal with the Italian mob, and was willing to sell her services as a hacker. The German's were lacking such resources, and were willing to bargain with her. But her bosses were VERY possessive.

"Won't they figure out you rescued me?" Xinlin asked nervously.

"Anyone nearby saw us in those wigs," Mary shrugged, "and we planted evidence making them think you'd been killed."

"Ah," Xinlin blinked, hoping the German's weren't going to be worse bosses...

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"Ack," Aya grunted as she looked around her apartment. It was dusty as heck, and she could smell spoiled food, too.

"I'm very sorry," the old man apologized. "We should have checked your suite, while you were bed ridden."

"I'm just glad you didn't give it up to someone else," Aya noted.

He gave her a odd look. "You work for MISS BALALAIKA," he said dryly, "I would be a fool to do that."

"Ah. Point," Aya conceded.

After he left Aya got a garbage bag and started throwing out expired food. Sadly it looked like she'd need to empty the cooler...

There was a thumping on the door, then it was thrown open. "What are you doing up?!" Erya demanded, striding in.

"Hello to you too," Aya said mildly.

"Ah. Sorry," Erya looked sheepish, "I went to the Hotel and they told me you went home...," she explained, "I was worried."

Aya smiled, "Sorry. The doctor cleared me to go." Mentally she added, 'Reluctantly, but still.'

"Why do I get the feeling you pushed to go?" Erya nmoted wryly. She saw the half full trash bag and demanded, "What are you doing?"

"Cleaning up," Aya sighed.

"Well, let's get that done, then maybe we can get some dinner," Erya offered warmly.

Aya smiled back, "I'd like that."

Part Nineteen

Mart Sue caught the blond looking at her from the crowded bar, and took a drink of her now warm beer. It was late evening, and a bunch of them were at the Yellow Flag, winding down from a long day's work.

"She's TOTALLY checking me out," Grantz noted, the younger man making sure he was tidy and ran a hand through his hair.

"Doubt it," Mary said, feeling eyes on her.

Mind you, the German's ALWAYS got eyed a bit. Even though a few months had passed, they were still the newcomers in town. At least the other gangs had, mostly, learned it was a very, VERY bad idea to try to whack them. There was also at least one of the local 'working girls; eyeing some of the troops, so there was THAT...

"Use protection, boys," Mary murmured as she drank.

"Refill?" Bao asked as he hovered nearby.

"I'm good," the brown haired woman finished her drink, then set the bottle on the table. "Hey, Weiss?" Mary addressed the other man.

"Yes, ma'am?" Johann asked, the slightly older man frowning a bit.

"I'm leaving," she told him, "you're most senior officer, make sure everyone gets home."

"Yes ma'am!" he fought the urge to salute.

'You can take a man out of the army, but not the army out of the man,' Mary thought, amused.

Of course some of it was the insane training Degurechaff put her recruits through. She had gotten permission to take the unit out 'wilderness training' and apparently it was pure hell. She even had them SHELLED at one point!

Mary waited a moment, then said, "You're Eda, right?"

"How did you know I followed you?" Eda asked, her eyes hidden by sunglasses, wearing a tight t-shirt and racy cut off shorts as she stepped into the light.

"Doing the work I did, you get good situational awareness," Mary replied briskly.

"We've met, I think," Eda said.

"Yeah. My squad was guarding a negotiating team, I remember you were there," Mary said quietly. She paused then continued more forcefully, "Look, I don't care how you ended up here. None of my business anyway."

"Fair enough," Eda agreed. She then added, "Besides, two long lost Americans should stick together, right?"

Mary shrugged, "Maybe."

"Catch you later," Eda waved, leaving.

As Eda walked away, Mary saw the gun tucked in the back of her shorts and wondered if the other woman would have shot her if she hadn't offered to stay silent.

"Weird fucking town," Mary sighed.

"Nicely done, Colonel Degurechaff," Mr Chang noted, visiting her office.

"I have no idea what you mean," Tanua said mildly.

Mr Chang looked amused.

Both of course knew he was talking about their grabbing Peking Duck, but neither would admit it. Ronnie 'The Jaws' was furious, but he didn't know who had done it and there was no evidence. He, of course, suspected Tanya...

"I would suggest you not kidnap away staff from other members of the council," Mr Chang added mildly.

"Not confirming anything, but I'd call it a rescue," Tanya noted.

Mr Chang grunted.

"And if you treat your staff well, they won't ask us to get them out of a bad situation," Tanya added dryly.

Mr Chang couldn't really argue that, everyone pretty much agreed Ronnie was a awful boss and shit human being.

"We have news on the person who leaked the information on the Church of Violence op," Tanya changed the subject.

":How..," Mr Chang blinked.

"Erya is very good, even if a bit distracted lately," Tanua said, amused. "And apparently he was foolish in spending his new gains."

Mr Chang looked amused, "I see."

"Dan Wisner's also dead, annoyingly," Tanya scowled.

Mr Chang frowned, "You didn't...?"

"No. We wanted to question him first," Tanya pointed out. She scowled, "Someone's tying up loose ends."

"And the killer escaped?" Mr Chang guessed.

"No trace of them," Tanya agreed, "we're back at square one."

Mr Chang nodded glumly.

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"Sorry, we should have grabbed him before they could off him," Erya admitted to them glumly later that evening

"Not your fault," Tanya shook her head.

The three met in a private room in the read of their headquarters. It was set up as a sort of hybrid meeting and break room, with a fridge, several chairs and a decent couch that they had acquired somewhere...

"You warned me we should grab him as soon as possible," Tanya added. "I held off hoping his employers would show up."

"Drinks?' Visha asked, the taller woman pouring herself a vodka.

Erya shuddered, "I can't believe you drink that straight."

Visha shrugged cheerfully, "It's my Russian heritage."

Tanya sipped her beer as she sighed, "And she drinks it like water, while I can only have two or three beers and get plastered."

"Poor you," Erya teased, having rum.

Visha took her drink and sat by Tanya on the couch. "Well, at least the Church knows we're trying... we want to stay on their good side," she noted.

"Hmm," Tanya agreed. "They are too powerful a player in this city to cross. Plus, those guys hit US too..."

"Revenge!" Visha toased, and they all tapped glasses.

A bit buzzed Tanya added, "Well, at least we have some good news... I hear your friend Aya is back home."

Erya blushed slightly. "Yeah. Still off duty for a few days though."

"So now you need to make your move!" Visha encouraged.

"What move?" Erya flushed.

"Don't look at me," Tanya said quickly, "Visha was the aggressor in our relationship."

"I've heard," Erya checkled. Visha had realized her former commanding officer would NOT make a move for ethical reasons, so...

"I think we all agree you like her," Visha pointed out, "and not just as a friend."

"And she's a grown adult," Tanya pointed out.

(Aya had arrived in Roanapur as a teen, but several years had passed. Really, it was surprising the younger woman had held on to her innocence here...)

"I don't even know if she likes me that way," Erya sighed. She added, "Or even likes women like that, in general."

"That.. is a bit tougher to figure out," Visha admitted.

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"Rum," Revy ordered after surrendering her pistols reluctantly.

"Whiskey," Greenback Jane said, the blond woman pushing up her glasses. She took in the crowd as she noted, "Busy night?"

Nabiki, who had stopped by to warn Revy not to start any brawls, made a face. "Busier than I'd like, honestly."

"How the hell does this bar pop up in Roanapur, anyway?" Revy had to ask.

"Whoops, trouble. Gotta go," Nabiki hurried off.

"She totally dodged that," Jane shook her head.

"Well, whatever. Arisugawa';s Locket just turns up occasionally," Revy shrugged. "Best not to think about it."

"Let's grab a table," Jane led her off.

Once they were sitting Revy scowled at Jane, "Okay, you wanted to see me. So talk."

"Were you serious when you threatened me?" Jane asked.

Revy blinked, then realized what Jane meant. Not THAT long ago, Jane had suggested that she wanted to bang Rock too, and Revy had threatened to basically FUCK Jane into submission. It had shut her right up.

"Seriously?" Revy looked at her thoughtfully.

Jane turned her glass in her hands, "I really am a nympho, you know. I don't... I don't get satisfied, even if I tired poor Benny right out." She sounded frustrated as hell.

"Any you want me to...?" Revy drank some rum as Jane nodded. "You been tested?" she checked.

"Me and Benny both. I'm not THAT stupid," Jane admitted.

Finishing off her drink Revy got up, "What the hell. We'll rent a upstairs room. Come on."

"Uh, right," Jane followed.

"Have you ever tried fisting...?"

To be continued...

Part Twenty

"FUCK..." the voice whimpered.

Revy rolled over, lighting up a cigarette as she noted, "I just did,"

Jane was sprawled beside her on the bed, literally exhausted. They had been up in the rented room a few hours...

Jane had the weirdest look on her face as she looked over at Revy in wonder. "I think you did it," she added quietly.

"Yeah?" Revy puffed her smoke.

"I'm... done. Holy fuck," Jane blinked owlishly.

Revy felt an odd twinge of pride at that. Mind you, she was damn tired too. Jane really was fucking insatiable...

"Hmm," Jane sighed happily as she shifted towards Revy.

"No cuddling," Revy quickly warned her off with a scowl as she continued, "I am not a fucking cuddler."

"Awww," Jane pouted.

"I need a drink," Revy muttered quietly.

"Rum?" Jane got up, uncaring she was nude.

"Damn right," Revy agreed.

Jane poured for them both as she mused, "I finally get why people want to nap after sex. I usually just want to go again."

"Must be hard," Revy noted mildly.

Jane brought the glasses back, "So... if I want us to do this again, can we in a few days?"

"A few days?" Revy teased.

"I need a rest," Jane chuckled.

"Yeah, sure," Revy agreed after a moment. Defensively she added, "We are NOT a couple, or anything though."

"Of course not," Jane agreed.

"And if you get... busy with anybody else, get tested. I am NOT taking fuckin' chances," Revy added dryly.

"Yes, Daddy," Jane purred.

"None of THAT either," Revy snickered.

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"Owwwm," Aya winced, having pulled on the wound on her side.

"Miss Aya," the old lady running the noodle bar scolded, "stop trying to lift that."

"She's right," the old manager added firmly.

Aya sat down with a sigh. She had been out of bed a few days, and was MOSTLY recovered. But if she stretched wrong, it hurt like a fucker...

"It's good to see you though," the old woman added, "you've become a regular."

"Thank you," Aya sighed.

"Eat, eat!" the old coot added cheerfully, "you need to regain your strength."

"Right," Aya smiled, breaking apart her chop sticks and slurping down noodles.

Once she finished Aya headed out of the little restaurant, where the punk who had tried to jump her was still sitting, out cold.

"Can I get some water?" she asked the old shopkeeper. The old lady dumped a bucket on him, awakening him.

"Argh!" the guy choked and sputtered.

"Well, awake I see," Aya smiled wryly.

"How...," he managed.

"That's my question," Aya addressed him calmly, "why did you try to jump me?'

"I heard you were one of the best fighters in Roanapur," the man admitted, "I hoped to beat you and make my rep."

"While I was recovering from a bullet wound," she looked at him disdainfully.

He winced visibly.

"Come try again once I've recovered," she told him, then turned to go.

"You're not going to kill me?" he managed.

"I generally don't," Aya answered, well aware that made her a rarity in Roanapur...

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"You did WHAT," Eda blurted.

"Shhh!" Revy shushed her. "I don't want the Sister to know."

They were sitting in the Church, both sharing a bottle of rum.

"But you and Jane...," Eda shook her head.

"It's just a physical thing," Revy shook her head. Frankly she was wiondering why she told Eda... though the woman was closest to a best friend she had. Which was fucking sad, really.

"Still... I though you didn't even like her," Eda noted. She took a drink,"And isn't she seeing Benny still too?"

"Yeah," Revy conceded, "and I'm okay with that."

Eda gave her a look, "Seriously?"

"Not my fucking business," Revy said firmly.

"Hey, Big Sis," Rico nodded welcomingly.

"Don't call me Sis," Eda grumbled.

"Yo," Revy nodded. "Drink?" she offered.

"No thanks," Rico smiled. "The Sister will be back soon...,"

"Right," Eda sighed.

Revy finished her drink, "Have we heard about Miranda?"

There was a beat of silence as they considered the Nun who had died in the fight in Bangkok. "The fucking Thai government is still fucking around," Eda said flatly, "but they'll send her body back soon."

"We'll make the fuckers pay," Rico vowed.

"Damn right," Revy toasted with her empty glass.

0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0

"Hmm," Visha sighed contentedly after having been ravaged by Tanya later that evening.

"Yeah," Tanya agreed, half laying over her.

Sometimes Visha was rather astonished at Tanya's drive and energy. She brought the same battle focus she had to love making, getting multiple orgasms from her lover...

And Visha enjoyed returning those affections, too.

A brisk knocking made Tanya swear violently.

"You're kidding," Visha growled.

"Argh," Tanya got up, throwing on a robe as she walked to the door.

"Uh..," Weiss looked embarrassed.

"This had BETTER be good," Tanya glared at him.

Weiss paled.

"Yes?" Visha prompted, having also tossed on a robe over her MUCH curvier body.

Weiss did his best not to ogle Visha as he blurted, "Someone assassinated Ronnie the Jaws."

"Couldn't happen to a nicer asshole," Tanya noted, having already developed a strong dislike for the local head of the Italian mob.

"Why rush here?" Visha asked him, narrowing her eyes.

"Because whomever did it left evidence pointing to us," Weiss said.

"Well, shit," Tanya sighed.

To be continued...

Notes: Sorry about all the sex scenes being off-camera. Sadly I just suck really bad writing them.
