Chapter 7
A Game of War
After everyone was seated, Louis had shuffled the cards around and divided them into seven separate piles: one for Clementine, Violet, Marlon, Ruby, Mitch, Davey and himself. Once all the decks were prepped and ready, Louis gave his friends the okay to draw a card with Davey being the winner of the 1st round, due to drawing a Ten of Hearts.
"Alrighty then. Well, I guess my first question is the most obvious: what happened to your hand?" Davey stated with a casual grin as he was pleased that he drew the highest card and asked Clem about her bandaged right hand.
"Heh, I sorta figured you guys would ask that." Clementine stated with a soft chuckle and grin on her face as she laid her bandaged hand on the table, which everyone noticed when they welcomed her onto the team.
"How'd it happen?" Marlon asked as he, Louis, Violet, Mitch, Ruby and Davey were curious to how Clem's hand had gotten bandaged up.
"I'm guessing you guys heard about the 'incident' that led to my transfer?" The young African American teenage girl stated whilst crossing her arms against her chest as she asked her new friends/teammates if they heard about the 'altercation' that led to her being reassigned to Long Beach.
"Yeah." Violet answered as she, Marlon and the others nodded their heads 'yes'.
"I got into a fight with one of the refugees that my team and I rescued from Baldwin Village...who turned out to be a natural born prick. The son of a bitch had the nerve to insult my friends who died, along with my father...so I gave him the ass kicking of a life time." Clem answered truthfully while shrugging her shoulders as she revealed to her friends of the events that led to her transfer assignment: how she had gotten into a heated fist fight with John's and Clara's arrogant teenage son, Craig; whom had the audacity to insult Bill, Sarah and more importantly, her beloved father, Lee; whom had risked their lives to evacuate the disrespectful blonde haired teenage boy and his family, Tyson and Becca from Baldwin Village.
After Clementine had explained what had happened to her hand and everyone accepted her answer, they all drew again with Mitch being the winner, as he drew a Jack of Spades.
"So...Clem. What was it like? The fight, I mean." The older brunette asked as he was deeply curious to what the fight between the Clementine and Craig was like, much to her amusement.
"Mitch?!" Ruby exclaimed as she couldn't believe Mitch's choice of question whilst Marlon, Louis, Davey and Violet simply glanced at each other and traded an amused grin.
"What?! It's an honest question!" Mitch countered while pointing out on how Louis said they could ask Clem any question!
"No its okay, Ruby. I'll answer." Clem stated as she immediately ended the bickering between Mitch and Ruby and assured the redhead that she wasn't really that bothered by the combative brunette asking about the fight between her and Craig.
"To answer your question, Mitch...the fight was rather heated, but it didn't that last long. Plus, the idiot was pathetic. I threw one measly love tap to his face and he fell on his ass to the floor." She automatically added as she explained to Mitch on how the scrap between her and Craig was rather heated and violent; due to recounting on how the dirty haired blonde picked her up and slammed her onto the floor and stated on how pathetic Craig was: as he fell to the ground two times after she slugged him across his face.
"Hold on...did you just that you slugged the guy across the face?" Louis asked as he and the others were greatly surprised after hearing Clementine reveal that she had punched Craig in the face and that she had thrown the first punch!
"...I also punched him in the nose." Clem answered as she hesitantly admitted to her new friends that she had struck Craig in his nose...much to their silent awe.
"Oh, really?" Violet softly asked with an amused smile slowly forming on her face after hearing Clem reveal that she had punched Craig in the nose.
"Three times, actually. I also broke his nose." She softly replied as she revealed to her friends/teammates that she had punched Craig in the face 3 times and broke his nose when she slugged him the 2nd time!
"Damn! The new girl's a scrapper!" Mitch excitedly exclaimed while standing up straight and pounding his left hand into the palm of his right!
"Mitch!" Ruby cried out with the same exasperated expression on her face after hearing the combative brunette's choice of words whilst Louis, Marlon, Violet and Davey simply glanced at each other and shared amused smiles once again.
"Oh, c'mon Ruby! Let me have this! She drew blood!" The older brunette stated with an amused grin on his face as he took an instant liking to Clementine himself after he and the others learned what a fierce fighter she was.
"Hey c'mon Mitch. You know the Sarge doesn't tolerate this sort of behavior." Marlon stated casually as he 'reprimanded' Mitch for his choice of words and reminded him on how Kenny didn't tolerate anyone encouraging violence among the team...whilst he and the combative brunette bumped fists, much to Ruby's annoyance.
Once Mitch's turn was over, everyone had drew for a new card again with Ruby being the winner; due to drawing the Ace of Diamonds.
"So Clem...um, do you regret it? Punching that boy?" The redhead started off softly as she asked Clementine if she felt bad for the beating she had given Craig.
"Tsk, not in the slightest." Clem answered while scoffing softly at Ruby's question and stating that she didn't feel the slightest guilty for the justified ass-kicking she had given John's and Clara's arrogant and disrespectful son.
"Why not?" Ruby asked as she was slightly surprised by the young African American teenage girl's answer.
"...Do you guys know what that ungrateful prick said right before I punched him?" Clem asked with a soft glare forming on her face as she curled the fingers to her bandaged hand into a tight ball, which Violet and the others noticed.
"What did he say?" Marlon softly asked as he, Louis, Violet, Ruby, Mitch and Davey were curious to what started the fight between Clementine and Craig...and they would be deeply surprised/shocked by the answer.
"The son of a bitch had the nerve to call Bill, Sarah and Lee 'losers' after they had given up their lives to get him and his family out of Baldwin Village...along with calling every one of us meat headed jarheads who are stupid enough to throw our lives away for a lost cause." Clem answered calmly as she revealed to her new friends on why she and Craig had fought in the first place: as the disrespectful teenage boy had the audacity to insult Lee, Morris and Parker after they had valiantly sacrificed their lives to evacuate him and his family from Baldwin Village and how he had also called everyone of them 'losers and morons' for even joining the Resistance!
"He said what?!" Mitch angrily demanded while slamming his right hand on the table while Ruby, Louis and Violet traded a soft glare after hearing the extremely hurtful things that Craig said, which led to the beating that Clem had given him,
"Why that stupid ungrateful prick..." Marlon muttered softly with a similar glare on his face while shaking his head in disgust at what an ungrateful and disrespectful prick John's and Clara's teenage was.
"So to answer your question, Ruby: no, I don't regret the beating I gave Craig. And, just for the record...that little asshole's lucky that I didn't shoot him." Clementine concluded plainly while crossing her arms as she informed Ruby and the rest of her new friends that she didn't regret the beating she had given Craig...and coldly stated on how the dirty haired blonde teenage boy was 'lucky' that she hadn't jammed the barrel of her Beretta into his mouth, much to their genuine surprise.
"Well...why didn't you?" Mitch asked...much to Ruby's and the others shock!
"Mitch!" The red haired field medic exclaimed in exasperation once again after hearing the combative brunette's choice of words/questions!
"What?!" Weston demanded back in a similar tone as he turned to the redhead, who gave him a look of disappointment.
"...Is it always like this between the two of them?" Clem softly asked while turning to Violet, whom had a casual smirk on her face as Louis, Marlon and Davey simply glanced away to avoid the bickering between Mitch and Ruby.
"Tsk, you think this is bad? Just wait till they have kids." Violet answered jokingly as she brought up the unlikely scenario of Mitch and Ruby getting married and having children together, which earned a light smile from the young teenage girl as she chuckled softly at the older blonde's joke.
"Mitch is just asking Clem why she didn't shoot the bastard when she had the chance Rubster." Louis stated softly as he broke up the heated tension between Mitch and Ruby and explained that the combative brunette was just curious to why Clementine didn't shoot Craig like she wanted.
"So Clem...how come you didn't shoot him?" Marlon softly asked as he was equally curious to why Clem didn't shoot Craig, along Davey, Louis and Violet.
"...To be honest? The son of a bitch wasn't worth the bullet and because...Bill, Sarah and Lee, they wouldn't have wanted me to." Clem answered truthfully as she explained to her friends that the reason why she didn't shoot Craig was because he wasn't worth it and that Bill, Sarah and more importantly, her father wouldn't have wanted her to cross a line that she would never be able to come back from.
'Huh? Lee?' Violet mentally asked as she noted how Clem had called her father and team sergeant by his first name instead of 'Dad' two times and glanced back to Marlon and Louis, whom also noticed the exact same thing.
Once everyone was satisfied with Clementine's answer and reason for not killing Craig Andrews, they drew again with Violet being the winner; as she drew a 10 of Diamonds.
"Clem, I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but...why do you call SSgt. Everett by his first name?" The older blonde softly asked which immediately earned and piqued Ruby's, Mitch's and Davey's interest.
"...I...I did?" The young African American teenage girl softly asked as she was deeply flustered by Violet's question.
"Yeah, twice." Louis answered while nodding his head, confirming that she had called her sergeant and squad leader by his first name twice during their game.
"Look Clem, you're not in any trouble. We're just confused. We thought Staff Sergeant Everett was your father." Marlon automatically added as he assured Clementine that she wasn't in any trouble and stated that he, Violet, Louis, Davey, Mitch and Ruby were confused to why she called SSgt. Everett by his first name if he was her father...and they would be deeply stunned by the answer.
"...(Sigh) Okay guys...here's the deal: SSgt. Everett...Lee...he was my adoptive father." Clem answered as she took a light breath to calm herself as she revealed to her friends/teammates the reason she had called Lee by his first name was because he was her adoptive father!
"What?" Ruby asked as she and the rest of their friends were taken back by that shocking revelation: how SSgt. Everett was actually Clem's adoptive father, not her birth father like Kenny led them to believe.
"But, wait a second Clem...if SSgt. Everett was your adoptive father, then does that mean your a..." Davey began to ask before Clementine had cut him off...as she immediately knew what he was about to say/ask.
"...Yeah. I'm an orphan." Clem answered with a soft nod as she revealed to her friends that she was an orphan and didn't have any living/surviving family.
"...Where are your parents?" Louis softly asked as he and the others were curious to where Clementine's actual parents were...and they would be deeply stunned/shocked by the answer.
"...Dead." The young teenage girl plainly and somberly answered as she revealed to her new squad/teammates that her parents were deceased.
"...What...What happened to them?" Violet softly asked with gentle eyes as she and the rest of their friends were curious to how Clem's parents died.
"...It...It happened six years ago after Judgement Day. My parents and I were hiding out in this old abandoned industrial warehouse in Santa Barbara, along with these two other married couples whom were running from the Machines. My father, Ed and the two other men: Omid and Alvin would head out to search what was left the stores and buildings for supplies we could use while me, my mother Diane and the other two women, Christa and Rebecca would wait in the warehouse...and keep an eye on Rebecca; since she was pregnant." Clem started off softly as she revealed to her friends about her life before she had joined the Resistance: how she and her parents were hiding from the Machines in an old abandoned warehouse in Santa Barbara, along with two other married couples and how the 2nd woman, Rebecca was pregnant with hers and her husband, Alvin's unborn child.
"You and your parents were traveling with a pregnant woman?" Davey asked with skeptical eyes as he, Mitch and Marlon shared an uneasy look after learning how one the women that Clem and her parents were traveling/hiding out with was pregnant.
"It's not like they had anywhere else to go." Clem softly and bluntly countered as she defended her parents decision to allowing Omid, Christa, Alvin and Rebecca to travel with them.
"What happened...next?" Louis asked.
"After my dad, Omid and Alvin returned to the warehouse, we decided to call it a day and went to sleep to rest up. Although...later during the night, my mom and dad woke me and the others up and before anyone could ask what was wrong...that was when we saw it: two bright lights shining through the small gaps on the roof...and twin engines flying overhead." Clementine answered softly as she explained to her friends and teammates that after her father, Omid and Alvin had returned to the warehouse after searching the area for supplies and other survivors, they had turned in to sleep and half way through the night...her parents woken her, Omid, Christa, Alvin and Rebecca up after hearing a rather ominous sound they heard and saw flying over the warehouse.
"...An Aerial HK." Marlon softly stated as he immediately identified the Machine that Clem had described to him and the others.
"After the HK flew by...we all thought that it hadn't seen us and we went back to sleep. But 20 minutes later...we slowly woke up again, as we heard marching foot steps approaching...and loud banging against the main doors and we just knew, that it was a Terminator; but we had no how many there were. As the Tin Can tried to break the doors down, my father and Omid barricaded the doors with whatever they could find whilst Alvin and Christa tried to calm Rebecca down; as she scared out of her mind and she begged God to make the Terminators go away. While my dad and Omid barricaded the door, my mom noticed a vent in the wall in the back of the room that had been pried open and told me to hide inside and stay quiet as I could. At first, I thought my mom was going to hide in the vent with me...but when I turned around, I saw that she started to block the vent with a cabinet. I cried out for my mom, begging for her to stop and to come with me...but she simply shook her head, saying that if anyone was going to make it...it was going to be me. The last thing my mom said was...that she and my dad loved me before she covered the vent. A few minutes later...I heard Omid telling my dad that the doors weren't going to hold and a loud crash...and then I heard my parents, Alvin, Rebecca, Omid and Christa scream...along with a number of laser shots ringing out." Clem continued as she revealed to her friends that after the HK Aerial had flown by, she, parents and the rest of their group had gone back to sleep, as they thought they were safe...before they woke up again: as they heard loud banging coming from outside the warehouse, which they knew was a Terminator trying to force its way in and while her father and Omid tried their best to barricade the door, to keep the Machine out, her mother had hid her in a vent and blocked it with a sturdy cabinet so the Terminator or Terminators couldn't find her...and forcefully choked back a few sobs, as she informed her squad/teammates that after her mother sealed the vent...she heard her, her father, Christa, Rebecca, Alvin and Omid scream in horror and multiple laser shots firing out.
As Clementine explained to her friends on what happened on the fateful and tragic night her parents and their group died...Violet, Marlon, Louis and the others silently looked at the young teenage girl sympathetic eyes and stared in a combination of shock and horror as they heard how a lone or small kill squad of Terminators had broke down the doors to the warehouse and executed Clem's parents and the other two married couples in cold blood...and that the only reason she survived that massacre was because her mother hid her in vent and barricaded it, so the Machines wouldn't detect her.
"Here...for your eyes." Violet softly stated as she offered Clem a handkerchief, which she gladly accepted.
"Thanks." The young African American teenage girl stated as she thanked the older blonde for the handkerchief, whom gave her a soft smile and nod as she wiped the tears building in the corner of her eyes away.
"Clem...we know this is hard, but...what happened afterwards?" Davey softly asked as he, Mitch, Marlon, Louis, Ruby and Violet were curious to what happened after the shooting was over.
"After the screaming and shooting stopped...I didn't hear anything, except for heavy footsteps walking around. But 15 minutes later, I heard multiple voices shout out and gunfire being exchanged. Once the shooting was over, I heard one of the voices call out any survivors and I banged on the cabinet, screaming that I was in the vent and the man who called out shoved the cabinet out of the way. Would you guys care to guess who that man was?" Clem answered truthfully as she revealed to her friends that after the laser gunfire had stopped and fifteen had passed, a rescue team from the Resistance had arrived and took out the Terminators that slaughtered her parents and group and how one of the soldiers, who called out for any survivors had found her as she banged her hand on the cabinet and asked her squad/teammates if they knew who the soldier that found her was...and the answer immediately clicked in Violet's head.
"SSgt. Everett?" The blonde teenage girl asked while Marlon's and the others eyes widened in surprise after hearing whom it was that found Clem, when she was still a little girl.
"Yeah. It was Lee who found and rescued me. He even shielded me...so I wouldn't see my parents, Christa, Omid, Alvin and Rebecca lying in their blood whilst the rest of his team, covered their bodies." Clementine answered with a soft nod, confirming that the Resistance fighter who found her was indeed Lee, whom also shielded her eyes to protect her from seeing her family and their other members of their group laying dead in pools of their own blood.
"...And, we're going to guess that one of the other soldiers that was there...was MSgt. Hammon, wasn't it?" Marlon softly asked as he fairly surmised that Kenny was also one of the Resistance fighters that was on the rescue team same as Lee.
"As a matter of fact...he was. And so was Capt. Aguilar, only he was a lieutenant back then." Clem replied as she nodded, confirming that Kenny was also one of the soldiers who was at the warehouse that night, along with Capt. Aguilar; whom was the squad leader.
"So that's how you know the Sarge." Mitch stated as he and the others immediately understood how the young teenage girl and Kenny knew each other.
"Yeah." Clementine answered softly.
As soon as Clem explained to her friends on how her parents died, they drew again with the young African American teenage girl being the winner: as she drew the Queen of Hearts.
"So how long have you guys served under Kenny?" Clementine softly asked as she was curious how long Violet, Marlon, Louis and the other soldiers on the base had served under Kenny's command.
"We've been serving under MSgt. Hammon for about...a month and a half." Louis answered as he informed Clem that he and the other teenage soldiers on the base had served under Kenny for 4 weeks with Mitch and Davey nodding in agreement.
"How long did you and your old team serve under Capt. Aguilar?" Marlon asked as he and the others were curious to jhow long the young African American teenage girl and her previous squad served under Capt. Aguilar's command.
"My old team and I had served under Capt. Aguilar for about 3 weeks." Clem answered truthfully as she revealed to her new friends/teammates that she and her previous squad had served under under Capt. Aguilar for three weeks.
As soon as Clem's turn was over, everyone drew for another card again with Louis being the winner, as he drew the 10 of Clubs.
"Booyah, my turn! Okay...so Clem, have you ever had a boyfriend?" The older African American teenage boy exclaimed after drawing the highest card and playfully asked Clementine if she ever had a boyfriend as she raised her eyebrows in genuine surprise.
"Oh my God/Oh sweet Jesus..." Violet and Mitch muttered as they glanced away in annoyance as soon as they heard Louis's question while Davey, Marlon and Ruby couldn't help but chuckle and share an amused smile.
"What? It's a complete valid question. Besides, you can ask me if I have girlfriend. The answer's no, by the way. " Louis asked while pointing out that he was asking a legit question and informing Clementine that he was single; as he didn't have a girlfriend.
"Wow, what a shocker." Davey stated sarcastically as he, Mitch and Violet were not the slightest surprised at Louis revealing on how he didn't have a girlfriend.
"No." Clem answered truthfully, stating she didn't have a boyfriend.
"You sure? Not even once?" The older African American teenage boy asked as he found it hard to believe that a young and pretty girl like Clem didn't have a boyfriend.
"Never. Look Louis, I'm flattered and all and you do get a C for cute...but you're not really my type." She stated with a soft grin and amused grin as she touched by the gesture of Louis hitting on her...whilst turning him down as gently as she could.
Although, unbeknownst to Marlon, Davey and the others...a light blush slowly formed on Violet's face as she glanced towards Clem in surprise after hearing her response.
"What does that mean?" Louis asked as he gladly accepted Clementine's compliment of him being 'cute' and was curious to what she meant by he wasn't her 'type', which earned a small collective of chuckles from his friends, as immediately knew the true motive behind him asking the young teenage girl non-stop questions: to see how much he could embarrass Clem by pretending to act like he didn't understand what she meant.
"What do you think, Cassanova?" Marlon answered while laughing softly with Ruby giggling alongside him, as she found his choice of words and nickname for Louis hilarious.
"Vi? You okay?" The Southern redhead asked as she noticed the light blush on her face...which immediately earned everyone's attention and caused the blush to deepen.
"I'm...I'm fine." The blonde teenage girl muttered softly while glancing away nervously.
Although, as soon as Louis's turn was and everyone drew for another...both Violet and Clem stared in great disbelief as Louis ended up winning again: as he drew the King of Hearts!
"Seriously, what did you mean I'm not your 'type'?" Louis stated with his trademark smile as he playfully asked again on what Clem meant by that he wasn't her type, which earned a small collective of chuckles from Marlon, Ruby and Davey as they found his attempt to pry the answer out of Clementine hilarious.
"Alright, that's it. I'm fuckin' done." Mitch stated bluntly as he placed his cards face down on the table, pulled his seat away and stood up.
"Where are you going?" Louis asked as he and the rest of their friends watched Mitch head towards the entrance/exit of the rec room.
"I'm going to the gym to workout, otherwise you'll drive me fucking insane." The combative brunette answered truthfully and half jokingly at the same time as he informed his friends that he was heading to the rec center to exercise.
"Hey Clem." He automatically added, which earned the young teenage girl's attention.
"If you ever want to blow off some steam, you can always join me and Rodriguez in the boxing ring in the workout center." Mitch stated as he informed Clem that if she ever wanted to blow off steam, that she could spar with him or Charlie in the boxing ring in the workout center.
"...That does sound good. I'll take you up on that." Clementine stated with a soft smile as she took Mitch up on his offer to spar with either him or Pvt. Rodriguez.
"Cool. I'll catch you and the others later." The older brunette replied before he exited the living quarters.
"Was it something I said?" Louis innocently and jokingly asked at the same time as he lamely 'pondered' why Mitch suddenly left in the middle of the game, which earned a loud collection of laughter from his friends.
"Yes Louis. It was something you said." Marlon answered as he playfully jabbed his best friend on his shoulder.
"Well, I'm all done here too. I should probably head to the infirmary to help Brody and Dr. Medina." Ruby softly stated as she informed her friends that she was done playing as well and fairly assumed that both Brody and Doc Medina required her assistance in the infirmary.
"Yeah, I'm going to have to call it quits too. I promised Thomas and Molina that I'd run them through the shooting range." Davey swiftly stated as he informed Louis and the others that he was done playing as well and that he promised two of their fellow Resistance fighters, Cpl. Molina and PFC. Thomas that he would help set up the targets on the firing range.
"Okay." Violet and Marlon stated as they, Clem and Louis watched Ruby and Davey pull away from the table and exit the living quarters as they headed towards the infirmary and shooting range.
As soon as Mitch, Davey and Ruby departed the recreational room, Clementine, Marlon, Louis and Violet had played two more rounds: with Clem giving Marlon grief about his haircut, which he claimed thought made him look 'cool' while she, the older blonde and even Lous couldn't help but think that his hairstyle made him look ridiculous and Violet asking a rhetorical question on which member of their team would likely die on the battlefield with Mitch betting that it would be Mitch; due to his hotheaded personality while Clem voted that it would be Louis with Violet, Marlon and even the older African American teenage boy agreeing to the slightly unlikely scenario. Once Violet's turn was over, they drew again with Marlon being the winner: as he drew the 9 of Diamonds.
"So Clem...what were your old teammates like?" The older blonde teenage boy asked as he, Louis and even Violet were curious to what sort of people the young teenage girl's previous squad mate were like.
"Heh. Clark, Bill, Molly and Sarah weren't just my teammates...they were my family, just like Lee." Clementine answered with a soft chuckle as she informed her new friends that Bill, Clark, Sarah and Molly were more than just her teammates...they were also her family, alongside her beloved adoptive father.
"How do you mean?" Violet asked as she, Louis and Marlon were curious to how Clem meant that her old chalk was also her family.
"Are any of you guys a single child?" She answered with a question of her own as she asked her new friends/squad mates if any of them were single children with no siblings.
"...As a matter of fact...we all are." Louis replied as he revealed to the young African American teenage girl that he, Violet, Marlon and the rest of the soldiers stationed in Long Beach were single children.
"And during your time at Basic Training, did you guys ever grow close to anyone whom was like a sister or brother to you?" Clem softly added as she asked her friends if any of them had developed a brotherly or sisterly relationship with any of the cadets during their time at boot camp.
"Yeah of course." Marlon answered with a soft nod, along with Louis; as they had thought of themselves as brothers during their time back at Basic Training.
"Well, that's what my old team and I were. During our time back at boot camp, some of the other cadets would pick on us...so Clark, Bill, Molly, Sarah and I, we sort of adopted each other. Clark and Bill would act as the older brothers and Sarah would act as the mother hen...and I'm pretty sure you guys can guess what that made me and Molly." Clementine softly stated as she explained to her new squad mates on how she, Harris, Ganz, Parker and Morris had adopted each other when they first started boot camp: with Clark and Bill acting as the protective older brothers and Sarah serving at the middle.
"You two were the little sisters on the team." Louis stated with a soft smile on his face, along with Marlon and Violet as they immediately figured out what Clem's and Molly's role on their team were: the little siblings.
"Yeah...in a way, we were wore. And we sort of made a pact with each other right before we passed Selections and were assigned to San Diego." Clem stated with a soft grin as she confirmed that she and Molly were indeed the 'little sisters' on their squad and recounted to Marlon, Louis and Violet on how she, Morris, Parker and Harris had made a deal with each other shortly before they were assigned to serve under Capt. Aguilar in San Diego.
"What sort of a pact?" Violet asked as she and the two older teenage boys were curious to what sort of pact the young African American teenage girl and her previous teammates had made with each other...and they would be deeply stunned/speechless by the rather shocking answer.
"The pact was if either of us were to die on the battlefield...it would be together." Clementine answered truthfully and somberly as she revealed to her new friends that the pact she, Clark, Bill, Molly and Sarah made was that if they would eventually die while fighting the Machines to the bitter end...that they would die together, so they wouldn't die alone whilst Violet, Louis and Marlon looked at her in silent sympathy after hearing the pact she and her old team made.
"If its alright with you guys, I'm going to call it day. Ahh, shit...I forgot to ask Kenny where the living quarters are." Clem softly stated as she was done playing the card game and swiftly realized that she never asked Kenny on where the bases personal living spaces were when she first arrived to Long Beach.
"I can show you where the living quarters are. Follow me." Violet softly stated as she offered to show the young teenage girl where the personal quarters were located on the base as she pulled away from the table and headed towards the door with Clementine following right behind her.
"Hey Clem." Louis softly called out, which earned the young teenage girl's attention as she turned back to the older African American teenage boy.
"We're sorry about your friends and your dad." Marlon softly stated as he and Louis offered Clem their condolences for the deaths of Bill, Sarah and Lee with his best friend nodding in agreement.
"...Thank you. I deeply appreciate it." Clementine replied with a soft smile as she appreciated Marlon's and Louis's kind words before she and the older blonde walked out the door.
Once they exited the rec room, the two teenage girls had walked down the hallways to the west wing on the base, which was where the soldier's living quarters were.
"This is it Clementine. You can choose any room you want." Violet softly stated as she gestured to the dorms on the opposite sides of the hall: which were marked 150-160 on the left and 170-180 on the right and informed Clem on how she could pick any of the vacant rooms as her own.
"Thanks Violet. Is Rm. 165 vacant?" The young African American teenage girl stated while asking the older blonde if Rm. 165 was taken or not.
"Yeah, it's vacant." She answered with a casual nod and shrug as she confirmed that 165 was indeed available and she could make it her new room.
Once Clem walked up towards Rm. 165, she turned the knob and opened the door to her room; which contained a medium sized bed that was in pristine condition, a sturdy wooden desk, walk in closet and a bathroom.
"Wow, its perfect. I'll take it." Clem stated as she stepped inside and looked around her new room, which she claimed was perfect for her while turning back to Violet, whom had walked in behind her.
"Yeah, it definitely suits you. If you ever need anything, me, Louis, Marlon and Brody are on corridor on the right." Violet replied with a soft grin as she informed Clementine that if she ever needed something that her, Louis's, Marlon's and Brody's rooms were on the adjacent hallway.
"Thank you. That's very kind." Clem stated with a warm grin as she placed her backpack and single traveling bag on the bed.
"You're welcome Clem. Anyway, the others and I usually hang out at the firing range during shooting practice. Do you want to join us tomorrow after breakfast?" The older blonde stated as she revealed to Clementine on how she, Marlon, Louis and rest of their squad usually spent of their time socializing while sharpening their skills on the firing range and asked if she would be interested in joining them.
"Sure, I'd love to. My old team and I used to do the same thing, we would usually hang out at the shooting range after breakfast." Clem answered with a warm smile, showing that she would be more than happy to join Violet and the rest of their team on the shooting range and stated on how she, Clark, Bill, Molly and Sarah had the same ritual: how they would usually get together to socialize at the shooting range.
"Really? Wow Clem, who knew our teams were so alike?" Violet stated with wide eyes after hearing that revelation and complimented on how their team and Clementine's old squad were similar to each other: as they shared the same ritual.
"Yeah, who would've guessed it?" The young teenage girl replied with a soft grin, which the blonde teenage girl mirrored as they shared a small laugh after learning how their teams had a lot in common.
"Well, I should get going. I'll catch you later Clem." Violet stated with the soft smile on her face as she placed a gentle hand on Clem's shoulder before she exited her newly assigned room.
"Alright. See you later Violet." Clementine replied with a similar soft and gentle smile as she watched Violet exit her new room and immediately knew that she would fit in perfectly with her new squad.
