Onward to Wela Volcano Park
The Eds, Sarah, Jimmy, and their new friend Maxiley are currently walking through Route 7 to make their way to Wela Volcano Park where their next Island Trial awaits them.
"So where are we going, guys?" asked Maxiley.
"We're going to Wela Volcano Park where our next trial is." replied Edd.
"What do you think this trial is like?" asked Ed.
"Or the Totem Pokemon." said Sarah.
"I'm not sure." said Edd. "Perhaps we should take our time to train our Pokemon to make sure they're ready."
"Good idea, Double-D." said Eddy. Edd turned towards Maxiley.
"Perhaps you can join us in our training also, Maxiley." said Edd. "To assure your Pokemon are ready when you challenge Mask Royal."
"Sounds good to me." said Maxiley.
"Hey!" they hear someone calling out. They look to see a boy walking over to them. "Would one of you like to have a Pokemon battle with me?"
"Sure. Which of us do you want to battle?" asked Sarah. The boy looked at the Eds and a shocked look appeared on is face.
'Oh man, the Eds!' the boy thought to himself. 'I'll lose for sure if I battle one of them!' He then looks at Maxiley. "How about I battle you?"
"Okay." replied Maxiley. Seconds later, Maxiley and the boy were standing several feet from each other while the Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy watched. "So how many Pokemon are we going to use?"
"We'll each use one." replied the boy.
"Fine by me." said Maxiley. He and the boy each pull a pokeball out of their pocket.
"Fearow, go!" said the boy, throwing a pokeball and releasing a large, brown, birdlike Pokemon. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Fearow, the Beak Pokemon and the evolved form of Spearow. In Alola, fish Pokémon are its prey. It can be seen circling above the ocean searching for food." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Larvitar, go!" said Maxiley as he throws a pokeball and releases a bipedal, light green, reptilian Pokemon with a blunt spike on its head, two diamond-shaped holes on its torso, and a purple, diamond-shaped belly. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Larvitar, the Rock Skin Pokemon. Raised on nutrients it finds in the dirt, it eats roughly a mountain's worth of dirt before it becomes a pupa." said the Rotom Pokedex. Larvitar and Fearow face each other.
"Why does Maxiley's Larvitar have different colors than the one shown in the Rotom Pokedex?" asked Sarah.
"Maxiley's Larvitar must be a Shiny one." said Edd.
"Shiny?" asked Jimmy.
"Some Pokemon have different coloring than one a normal one of their species. Those Pokemon are refered to as 'Shiny Pokemon'." explained Edd. "It's rare to find one."
"Cool." said Ed. Back at the battle, Maxiley and the Fearow's trainer were ready to battle.
"Fearow, use Leer!" said Fearow's trainer. Fearow's eyes glowed red and it leers at Larvitar. It slumps and his defense weakens.
"Use Screech, Larvitar!" said Maxiley. Larvitar lets out a loud cry and releases soundwaves onto Fearow, weakening its defense.
"Fearow, Aerial Ace!" said Fearow's trainer. Fearow flies towards Larvitar while surrounded by white steaks of light, and rams it, knocking it back and doing moderate damage to it due to its defense being weakened by Leer.
"Use Bite!" said Maxiley. Larvitar leaps at Fearow and bites its head, doing major damaging to it due to its defense being weakened by Screech, and making it flinch. "Now use Rock Slide!" Larvitar lets out a loud cry and multiple gray rocks fall from the air and onto Fearow, doing massive damage to it. Fearow falls to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Maxiley won!" said Sarah.
"Way to go, Maxiley!" said Eddy.
"You did great." said Ed. Fearow's trainer slumps and returns Fearow to its pokeball. He walks over to Maxiley.
"Good battle." said Fearow's trainer.
"Thanks." said Maxiley. Fearow's trainer gives Maxiley pokedollars and walks off. Maxiley leans towards Larvitar and rubs the back of its head. "You were great, Larvitar."
"Lar." replied Larvitar. The Eds, Sarah, and Jimmy walk to Maxiley.
"You were marvelous, Maxiley." said Edd. "And your Larvitar was incredible."
"Thanks. You know, Larvitar's my very first Pokemon." said Maxiley. "Raised him from an egg."
"Really?" said Sarah.
"Yeah. You see, about a year ago, I was exploring this tunnel that's not far from my hometown when I saw this egg lying around." said Maxiley. "I assumed its mother would return, so I left it alone. Two days later, I returned to the tunnel to check out the mining they were doing there, and I saw the egg still where I first saw it. I'm guessing its mother was captured. I couldn't just leave the egg there where it might get damaged from the mining that was going on there, so I took the egg and got out of there. After I took the egg home, my dad and I looked up how to take care of Pokemon eggs. After about a week, it hatched into the Larvitar you see before you. I tried to release it into the wild, but he was attached to me and didn't want to leave me. Dad actually surprised me with a pokeball, saying I can keep Larvitar as long as I promise to take care of it. I captured it and we've been together ever since."
"Jimmy and I got our first Pokemon from eggs that my brother and Double-D gave us." said Sarah.
"Really?" replied Maxiley.
"Yes." said Edd. "Back when we were travelling in the Sinnoh Region, Ed was given a Pokemon egg from someone he met in Hearthome City, while I got mine from someone named Riley on Iron Island."
"That's amazing!" said Maxiley.
"Indeed." said Edd. As they travel down Route 7, they have Tauros destroy some rocks that were there. When Eddy destroys one with Tauros, he was pleasantly surprised when he sees a familiar, red, four-pointed rock.
"A Star Piece!" said Eddy as he hops off Tauros and grabs it.
"How fortunate, Eddy." said Edd. After some more searching, with Maxiley finding a Pearl, they keep walking until they reached the bottom of Wela Volcano Park. They look up and see lava bursting from the top.
"What kind of Pokemon would live here?" asked Eddy.
"Perhaps a fire type one." suggested Edd.
"Then we should use Pokemon that can take the heat." said Eddy.
"Like water, ground, rock, and dragon types?" asked Ed.
"Precisely, Ed." said Edd. "We should train the ones we have with us."
"Good idea." said Sarah. Ed trained his Gigalith and Seel, Edd trained his Brionne, along with his Herdier for good measure, Eddy trained his Noibat and Poliwag, Sarah trained her Alomomola and Blissey, Jimmy trained his Wishiwashi and Lycanroc, and Maxiley trained his Crabrawler and Larvitar.
During the training, Ed's Seel learned Aurora Beam. His Gigalith also got stronger.
Edd's Brionne learned Sing and his Herdier got stronger.
Eddy's Noibat learned Roost and his Poliwag learned Body Slam and Bubble Beam. Also, during Poliwag's training, he begins to glow.
"Hey! Poliwag's evolving!" said Eddy. Everyone else gathered around Eddy and watched as Poliwag began to change. When the glowing stopped, Poliwag was bigger, he had arms with white gloved hands, legs with feet, a pair of bulbous eyes and his mouth and tail were gone. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the newly-evolved Poliwag.
"Poliwhirl, the Tadpole Pokemon and the evolved form of Poliwag. Its health suffers when its skin dries out, so be sure to moisturize it diligently." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"Good thing Poliwag, I mean, Poliwhirl knows Rain Dance, so it'll be easy to keep him moisturized." said Edd.
Sarah's Blissey learned Heal Pulse and her Alomomola learned Water Pulse.
Jimmy's Lycanroc learned Roar. As he continued to train his Wishiwashi, he hears rustling coming from the grass. He looks to see a bipedal, light brown Pokemon that was wearing a skull on its head and was holding a bone walking out of the grass.
"What's this Pokemon, Double D?" asked Jimmy. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Cubone, the lonely Pokemon. It wears its mother's skull on its head, so no one knows what its bare face looks like. However, it's clear that it's always crying." said the Rotom Pokedex. Jimmy looks at Cubone with tears in his eyes.
"Oh, that's so sad." said Jimmy. "I'll catch you so you can play with my other Pokemon so you'll never be lonely." He turned towards Wishiwashi. "Will you help me catch this Pokemon, Wishiwashi?" Wishiwashi nods and faces Cubone who raises his club. "I hope this battle won't affect our future friendship, Cubone." Wishiwashi's eyes shined and a lot of glowing Wishiwashis appeared out of nowhere and gather around Jimmy's Wishiwashi. They formed into a large, dark blue, fishlike Pokemon. Edd points the Rotom Pokedex at Wishiwashi.
"Wishiwashi School Form, the Small Fry Pokemon. Called "demon of the sea" by some, when Wishiwashi are injured in battle and their numbers dwindle, they become a regular school." said the Rotom Pokedex.
"This must be from Wishiwashi's Schooling ability." said Edd. "And in this form, Wishiwashi is much stronger than he was in his Solo Form." Sarah looked nervously at Wishiwashi.
"I can see why they call Wishiwashi in this form 'Demon of the Sea.'" said Sarah.
"Well inside, he's still the Wishiwashi I know." said Jimmy. He looks at Cubone. "Wishiwashi, use Brine!" Wishiwashi opens its 'mouth' and fires a powerful stream of water from it and it hits Cubone, dealing super effective damage to it, knocking it to the ground. "Sorry, Cubone." Jimmy saw Cubone struggle to get up. He quickly pulls out an empty pokeball, runs over to Cubone, and taps it with the pokeball. Cubone gets sucked into the pokeball and Jimmy watches as it wiggled in his hand until it clicks, indicating a successful capture. "Yay! I caught Cubone, now it'll never get lonely." Cubone's pokeball vanishes. "I'll ask Professor Kukui to let Cubone play with my other Pokemon."
"He can play with my Pokemon too, Jimmy." said Ed.
"Wow, thanks, Ed." said Jimmy. The other Wishiwashi's return to the sea not far from Wela Volcano Park, leaving Jimmy's Wishiwashi by himself.
"I guess Wishiwashi's Schooling ability only lasts until the battle ends." said Edd. He then uses the Rotom Pokedex to look up Jimmy's new Cubone. "This says your Cubone's a boy, he knows Growl, Tail Whip, Bone Club, Headbutt, and Leer. He has the Rock Head ability which prevents him from receiving recoil damage."
Maxiley's Larvitar learned Thrash and his Crabrawler learned Dizzy Punch. While Sarah was exploring the grass, something quickly crawls out of it towards her. When it stopped, Sarah sees that it was a lizardlike Pokemon with a white body, black head with a long snout, two small, flaplike protrusions coming out of the back of its neck, with an orange stripe going down its back.
"What is that?!" asked Sarah. Edd takes out the Rotom Pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Salandit, the Toxic Lizard Pokemon. It weakens opponents and sends them reeling with its poisonous gas. Salandit doesn't deal well with Spinda, since it's always reeling." said the Rotom Pokedex. Edd looks at the coloring of the Salandit shown on the display screen, then at the one in front of them.
"I believe this is a Shiny Salandit." said Edd. Suddenly, the Salandit leaps towards Sarah, who tries to shield herself with her arms. Seeing that Sarah was in danger, Maxiley rushes over to her, grabs her hand, and pulls her out of the way.
"Thanks, Maxiley." said Sarah. "Alolomola, come help us." Alolomola floats over and gets in between Sarah and Maxiley, and the Salandit. "Alolomola, use Aqua Jet!" Alolomola's body becomes coated in water, and it propels itself at the Salandit, slamming into it, doing super effective damage.
"Nice one." said Maxiley. Sarah smiles in response. The Salandit opens its mouth and releases a spray of purple mist.
"Alolomola, use Protect!" said Sarah. A green barrier forms around Alolomola, and the purple mist bounces harmlessly off it. "Now use Water Pulse!" Alolomola releases a pulsating blast of water from herself, and it hits the Salandit, doing super effective damage. It suddenly starts staggering around dizzily.
"Looks like it's confused, Sarah." said Maxiley. The Salandit tries to move towards Alolomola, but it trips over its own feet and falls to the ground. Seeing it struggle to get up, Sarah takes out an empty pokeball and throws it at the Salandit. The pokeball hits it, and sucks it in, then wiggles a few times before clicking, indicating a successful capture.
"Yes! I caught a Salandit!" said Sarah.
"Congratulations, Sarah." said Edd. He then sees something that makes him chuckle.
"What's so funny, Double-D?" asked Sarah.
"I think you can let go of Sarah's hand now, Maxiley." said Edd. Maxiley and Sarah look to see that they were in fact still holding hands, then let go with blushes on their faces. Salandit's pokeball vanishes.
"So, what's my new Salandit like?" asked Sarah, hoping to change the subject. Edd looks at the Rotom Pokedex at Sarah's new Salandit's information.
"Well, this says your Salandit's a girl, she's part fire and part poison types, she knows Scratch, Poison Gas, Ember, Sweet Scent, Dragon Rage, and Smog; and she has the Corrosion ability which makes her capable of poisoning steel types, as well as other poison types." said Edd. "An interesting fact concerning Salandits; only female ones are capable of evolving."
"Good thing I caught a girl." said Sarah.
"Yes, well we should head back to the others." said Edd. The three make their way to rejoin the others. Once they do, they see it was getting dark out and decide to call it a day. They returned to Royal Avenue and went to the Pokemon Center. Once there, Sarah uses the PC to exchange her Petilil for her new Salandit while Eddy sold his Star Piece while Maxiley sold the pearl he found. After that, they gave the nurse their Pokemon, then they went to the cafeteria to have some dinner.
"Man, it's been great hanging with you guys." said Maxiley.
"It's been great having you around, Maxiley." said Sarah, blushing. Maxiley blushes in response.
"And tomorrow, we'll return to Wela Volcano Park where we'll face the trial." said Edd.
"I can't wait." said Ed. Once they finished eating, they head for their room, shower, and get to bed. What challenge will they be facing in their trial tomorrow?
