Coumarine Gym Battles (Part One)
At another part of Coumarine City, the train carrying Jonny, Kevin, Rolf, and Nazz arrived at the station. The doors to the train opened and several people, along with the group, exit. Once they left the station, they walked to the Pokemon Center. After giving the nurse their Pokemon, Nazz went to the store and pulls out the stone she found at Baa de Mer Ranch.
"Excuse me, but do you know what this is?" Nazz asked the store clerk.
"Why, that's a Shiny Stone." replied the clerk. "That can be used to evolve a few Pokemon."
"Like what?" asked Nazz.
"Well, the only Pokemon I know that require a Shiny Stone to evolve are Togetic, Roselia, Minccino, and Floette."
"I have a Floette!" said Nazz, excitedly. She then runs back to the others. "Guys! This stone can help Floette evolve!"
"Awesome." said Kevin.
"I am so going to use this on Floette when I get her back from the nurse." said Nazz. She puts the Shiny Stone back in her backpack and the group walks to the cafeteria. After they finished eating, they walk to the nurse who informs them that their Pokemon are fully healed.
After getting them back and exiting the Pokemon Center, Nazz releases Floette from her pokeball. Nazz takes the Shiny Stone out of her backpack. "You want to evolve, Floette?" Floette looks at the Shiny Stone, then looks at Nazz and smiles and nods. Nazz smiles and touches Floette with the Shiny Stone; Floette begins to glow. Everyone watches as Floette began to grow and change shape.
When the glowing stops, Floette now had a slender white upper body with longer arms with fingers, her pointed nose was now upturned, her leafy eyelashes were longer, her lower body now resembled a mermaid tail with two, long green leaves at the end of it, and a bouquet of yellow flowers surrounded her head. Nazz looks in awe.
"She's beautiful." said Nazz. Kevin gives Nazz the pokedex and she points it at her newly evolved Floette.
"Florges, the Garden Pokemon and the fully evolved form of Flabebe. In times long past, governors of castles would invite Florges to create flower gardens to embellish the castle domains." said the pokedex.
"Congratulations, Nazz." said Kevin. Nazz uses the pokedex to learn more about her new Florges.
"This says Florges now knows Disarming Voice, Flower Shield, Grass Knot, Petal Blizzard, Misty Terrain, Moonblast, Petal Dance, and Aromatherapy." said Nazz.
"Far out!" said Jonny. Nazz returns Florges to her pokeball.
"Come on. Let's find that gym." said Nazz.
"Yes. Rolf is eager to challenge the gym leader." said Rolf. Kevin sees a woman and walks to her.
"Hey. Can you tell us where the Coumarine Gym is?" asked Kevin.
"Sure. It's up there." said the woman, pointing upward. The group look to where to where she was pointing to see a massive tree.
"The gym's on top of a tree?!" exclaimed Kevin.
"Maybe it's related to Plank?" asked Nazz.
"Do you know that tree, buddy?" Jonny asked Plank. After staring at the tree for a minute, they all head over to it and find a staircase going up it.
"That's a lot of stairs." said Kevin.
"Well, let's get climbing." said Nazz. They all spent five minutes climbing the stairs until they reach the top; there, they see a large battle arena, surrounded by lush greenery.
"Whoa!" said Jonny.
"Rolf is amazed by this gym." said Rolf.
"Thank you, young man." said a man's voice from nearby. They look to see an elderly gentleman, wearing a dark green beret, orange scarf around his neck, a long-sleeved, green, dress shirt, green gloves, blackish-gray pants that were held up by a pair of suspenders, and green shoes, and held a large pair of pruning shears.
"Hello, sir." said Nazz. "We're here for gym battles."
"Yeah, can you tell us where the gym leader is?" asked Kevin.
"You're looking at him." said the elderly man with a chuckle, surprising the group.
"Really?" asked Jonny.
"That's right." said the elderly man. "I'm Ramos, the Coumarine gym leader."
"Like we said, we're here for gym battles." said Kevin.
"Very well." said the elderly man now known as Ramos as he uses his shears to snip a bit of leaves off a nearby branch. "Which one of you will I be battling first?" Rolf steps forward.
"Rolf will battle you first!" said Rolf as he runs over to one side of the arena. Ramos chuckles at Rolf's enthusiasm.
"Well then, let's get ready." said Ramos as he puts his pruning shears into the holster on his belt and walks over to the other side of the arena. Kevin, Jonny, and Nazz sit in a small set of wooden bleachers to watch the match. A referee comes to the center of the arena.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Ramos; and the challenger, Rolf." said the referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon. The trainer who is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The referee walks over to the sidelines as Rolf and Ramos each take out a pokeball.
"Come on out, Jumpluff!" said Ramos as he throws his pokeball, releasing a round, blue Pokemon that had three cotton puffs coming out of its body. Kevin takes out the pokedex and points it at the Pokemon.
"Jumpluff, the Cottonweed Pokemon, and the fully evolved form of Hoppip. Even in the fiercest wind, it can control its fluff to make its way to any place in the world it wants." said the pokedex.
Rolf throws his pokeball, releasing his Beedrill.
"Go, Rolf!" cheers Nazz. Rolf nods in response.
"Beedrill, use Twineedle!" said Rolf. Beedrill's stinger arms glowed green as she flies at the Jumpluff, and jabs them into it. The Jumpluff suddenly starts to look ill. "Twineedle has poisoned your Jumpluff."
"That it did." said Ramos. "Jumpluff, use Stun Spore!" Jumpluff releases yellow pollen from its cotton puffs that drift over to Beedrill and coats her body. Jumpluff loses some stamina from its poisoning. Beedrill suddenly started to twitch a little bit.
"Rolf's Beedrill is paralyzed!" said Rolf.
"Don't give up, Rolf!" said Kevin. A look of resolve appears on Rolf's face.
"Beedrill, use Poison Sting!" said Rolf. Beedrill breaks free of paralysis, and releases a barrage of needles from her stingers, hitting it, and doing super effective damage, plus extra thanks to its Poison Barb.
"Jumpluff, use Tackle!" said Ramos. Jumpluff floats quickly at Beedrill, and slams into her. Jumpluff then takes more damage from the poison.
"Beedrill, use Fury Attack!" said Rolf. Beedrill releases a barrage of jabs from her stingers, doing enough damage to Jumpluff to knock it out.
"Jumpluff is unable to battle. Beedrill is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Jonny.
"Right on!" said Kevin. Rolf smiles in response.
"Very good, Beedrill." said Rolf. Ramos returns his Jumpluff to its pokeball.
"You did your best, old friend." said Ramos. He then puts Jumpluff's pokeball into his pocket, then pulls out another one; he then throws it, releasing a Pokemon that had a yellow, bell-shaped body with a leaf on each side of it. Kevin points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Weepinbell, the Flycatcher Pokemon, and the evolved form of Bellsprout. It spits out Poison Powder to immobilize the enemy and then finishes it with a spray of Acid." said the pokedex.
"Weepinbell, use Sleep Powder!" said Ramos. Weepinbell releases blue pollen from its body which drift over to Beedrill, making her fall asleep.
"Beedrill! This is no time to sleep!" said Rolf.
"Weepinbell, now use Wrap!" said Ramos. A vine comes out of Weepinbell's body which wraps around Beedrill, and starts squeezing her.
"Wake up, Beedrill!" shouts Nazz. Suddenly, Beedrill wakes up, surprising Ramos.
"Your Beedrill is quite remarkable." said Ramos. "Freeing itself of paralysis and waking up so soon is quite amazing."
"Rolf is pleased with Beedrill." said Rolf. "Beedrill, use Pin Missile!" Beedrill releases a barrage of green, glowing stingers from her main stinger, which hit Weepinbell a number of times.
"Weepinbell, use Knock Off!" said Ramos. Weepinbell strikes Beedrill with its vine, making her drop her Poison Barb.
"Beedrill lost its Poison Barb!" said Jonny.
"That's because Knock Off has the ability to knock an item off the Pokemon it hits." said Ramos. Beedrill was still managing to stay in midair.
"Beedrill, use Twineedle again!" said Rolf. Beedrill strikes Weepinbell with a Twineedle attack, doing enough damage to knock it out.
"Weepinbell is unable to battle. Beedrill is the winner." said the referee.
"Nice one, Rolf!" said Kevin.
"Way to go, dude." said Nazz.
"Rolf is, how you say, on fire!" said Rolf. Ramos returns Weepinbell to its pokeball.
"You take a good rest, Weepinbell." said Ramos. He puts Weepinbell's pokeball away and pulls out his last one. He throws it, releasing a Pokemon that looked like a Skiddo, but a lot larger, had a thicker collar of leaves around its neck, and larger, longer, curved horns.
"That Pokemon looks like a beefed-up Skiddo." said Kevin as he points the pokedex at the Pokemon.
"Gogoat, the Mount Pokemon, and the evolved form of Skiddo. They inhabit mountainous regions. The leader of the herd is decided by a battle of clashing horns." said the pokedex.
"So, Rolf's Skiddo will evolve into that someday." said Jonny.
"Rolf waits for the day that his Skiddo will evolve into a magnificent beast like that." said Rolf.
"Gogoat, use Take Down!" said Ramos. Gogoat charges at Beedrill, and slams into her, doing enough damage to knock her out. Gogoat also takes damage from the recoil.
"Beedrill is unable to battle. Gogoat is the winner." said the referee. Rolf and his friends were shocked.
"That Gogoat took out Beedrill in one hit!" said Nazz.
"Well, to be fair, Beedrill did have to take on two other Pokemon." said Kevin. Rolf returns Beedrill to her pokeball.
"Rolf is proud of Beedrill." said Rolf. He puts Beedrill's pokeball into his pocket and pulls out another one. He throws it, releasing his Pidgeotto.
"Gogoat, use Take Down again!" said Ramos, making Gogoat charge at Pidgeotto.
"Pidgeotto, use Sand Attack!" said Rolf. Pidgeotto flings sand into Gogoat's eyes, lowering its accuracy, making it run past Pidgeotto. "Now use Quick Attack!" Pidgeotto flies at Gogoat quickly and slams into its side.
"Gogoat, use Bulk Up!" said Ramos. Gogoat starts gathering energy, making its body grow a bit.
"Pidgeotto, use Twister!" said Rolf. Pidgeotto flaps her wings, making a blue twister come out, hitting Gogoat, and making it flinch. "Now use Gust!" Pidgeotto flaps a strong gust of wind at Gogoat, hitting it, and doing super effective damage.
"Gogoat, try using Take Down again!" said Ramos. Gogoat runs at Pidgeotto, and manages to hit it this time, hurting her, and itself in the process.
"Pidgeotto, use Gust again!" said Rolf. Pidgeotto manages to find the strength to use another Gust attack, doing more super effective damage to Gogoat.
"Gogoat, use Tackle!" said Ramos. Gogoat runs at Pidgeotto and rams into her, doing enough damage to knock her out.
"Pidgeotto is unable to battle. Gogoat is the winner." said the referee. Kevin, Jonny, and Nazz were surprised.
"That Gogoat just beat another of Rolf's Pokemon." said Nazz.
"That Gogoat is tough." said Jonny. Rolf returns Pidgeotto to her pokeball.
"You did your best, Pidgeotto." said Rolf. He puts Pidgeotto's pokeball back into his pocket, and pulls out his last one; he throws it, releasing his Braixen. "Braixen, use Flame Charge!" Braixen's body becomes engulfed in fire as she charges at Gogoat, and slams into it, doing super effective damage. A surge of energy rises from Braixen's body.
"Looks like Braixen got the speed boost from Flame Charge, Rolf!" said Kevin.
"Well, let's see if we can't slow her down a bit." said Ramos. "Gogoat, use Bulldoze!" Gogoat slams his front hooves onto the arena floor, sending a shockwave at Braixen and hits her, doing super effective damage, and reducing her speed.
"End this quickly, Rolf!" said Kevin.
"Rolf will do so." said Rolf. "Braixen, use Psybeam!" Braixen holds out her branch, releasing a beam of psychic energy, hitting Gogoat, and damaging it enough to knock it out.
"Gogoat is unable to battle. Braixen is the winner. The winner of the gym battle is the challenger, Rolf!" said the referee. Rolf's friends jump up with joy.
"Rolf won!" said Kevin.
"Way to go, Rolf!" said Nazz.
"Right on!" said Jonny. Rolf runs over to Braixen and hugs her.
"Rolf is proud of Braixen, yes!" said Rolf, making Braixen smile. Ramos returns Gogoat to its pokeball.
"You fought well, Gogoat." said Ramos. He puts Gogoat's pokeball back into his pocket, then walks over to Rolf. "You did a fine job raising your Pokemon, young one."
"Rolf thanks you." said Rolf. Ramos reaches into his pocket and pulls out a badge that looked like a leaf, along with some pokedollars.
"It is my pleasure to present to you the Plant Badge." said Ramos. He hands it, along with the pokedollars to Rolf. Rolf holds up the Plant Badge in triumph.
"Rolf has won the Plant Badge!" said Rolf. Ramos looks over at Rolf's friends.
"So, who am I battling next?" asked Ramos. Jonny steps forward.
"I'll battle you." said Jonny.
"Let me get my Pokemon treated, and I'll be right back for our battle." said Ramos. He then points towards a nearby slide. "That will get us down to the ground a lot faster."
"Cool!" said Jonny. Ramos and Rolf head down the slide, while Jonny goes to the side of the arena that Rolf battled from and waits for Ramos to return. Half an hour later, Rolf and Ramos returned. Ramos walked to the arena while Rolf joined Kevin and Nazz on the bleachers. Jonny and Ramos were facing each other.
"This gym battle is between the gym leader, Ramos; and the challenger, Jonny." said the referee. "Each trainer will use three Pokemon. The trainer who is able to defeat all of their opponent's Pokemon will be the winner. Let the battle begin." The referee walks over to the sidelines as Jonny and Ramos each take out a pokeball.
"Go, Jumpluff!" said Ramos, throwing Jumpluff's pokeball and releasing it.
"Ninjask, go!" said Jonny, throwing Ninjask's pokeball and releasing him. "Ninjask, Fury Cutter!" Ninjask flies at Jumpluff while his forearms glow red and he slashes Jumpluff with them, causing more damage than it normally would have due to Silver Powder powering up Ninjask's bug type moves.
"Jumpluff, Acrobatics!" said Ramos. Jumpluff leaps at Ninjask and tackles him several times, causing super effective damage. Ninjask suddenly begins surging with energy from Speed Boost, increasing his speed.
"Use Leech Life!" said Jonny. Ninjask quickly flies at Jumpluff and sticks his forearm claws into Jumpluff's body, draining its energy, and healing most of Ninjask's wounds.
"Stun Spore!" said Ramos. Jumpluff releases yellow powder from its cotton puffs onto Ninjask. He becomes surrounded by static electricity.
"Ninjask's paralyzed!" said Jonny. Ninjask gains another speed increase from Speed Boost. "Okay, Ninjask, Fury Cutter!" Ninjask fights through his paralysis and his forearms glow red; he flies at Jumpluff and slashes it, dealing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Jumpluff is unable to battle. Ninjask is the winner." said the referee.
"Way to go, Ninjask!" said Jonny.
"Go, Jonny!" said Nazz. Ramos returns Jumpluff to its pokeball.
"You fought well, Jumpluff." said Ramos. He puts Jumpluff's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Weepinbell, come out!" He tosses Weepinbell's pokeball and releases it.
"Okay, Ninjask, Fury Cutter!" said Jonny. Ninjask fights through his paralysis and slashes Weepinbell, damaging it.
"Weepinbell, Gastro Acid!" said Ramos. Weepinbell spits a purple glob of acid from its mouth, and it hits Ninjask, damaging him. Ninjask suddenly begins to slump. "Gastro Acid cancels the effects of the ability of the Pokemon it hits, so Ninjask's speed should return to normal."
"Ninjask, Fury Cutter!" said Jonny. Unfortunately, paralysis kicks in and stops Ninjask. He gains a speed increase from Speed Boost.
"Weepinbell, Knock Off!" said Ramos. Weepinbell jumps towards Ninjask and hits him with one of its leaf arms, damaging Ninjask and making him drop his Silver Powder.
"Ninjask, Leech Life!" said Jonny. Ninjask fights through paralysis and sticks his forearms claws into Weepinbell's body; he drains some of Weepinbell's energy and heals some of his wounds. Ninjask's speed increases from Speed Boost.
"Weepinbell, Acid!" said Ramos. Weepinbell sprays a stream of purple liquid from its mouth onto Ninjask, damaging him, and weakening his special defense.
"Ninjask, Slash!" said Jonny. Ninjask flies at Weepinbell and slashes it with his forearm claw, damaging it, and knocking it out.
"Weepinbell is unable to battle. Ninjask wins the match." said the referee.
"All right, Jonny!" cheered Kevin.
"You can do it, Jonny!" said Nazz. Ramos returns Weepinbell to its pokeball.
"You did well, Weepinbell." said Ramos. He puts Weepinbell's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Your Ninjask is quite skilled; but let's see how he does against Gogoat!" He tosses Gogoat's pokeball and releases it.
"Fury Cutter!" said Jonny. Paralysis kicks in and stops Ninjask from attacking. He gains a speed increase from Speed Boost.
"Take Down!" said Ramos. Gogoat charges at Ninjask and rams him, knocking him back. Gogoat winces in pain from Take Down's recoil damage.
"Ninjask, try using Fury Cutter!" said Jonny. Ninjask fights through paralysis and slashes Gogoat with his forearms, hitting Gogoat, and dealing super effective damage. Ninjask's speed increases.
"Take Down!" said Ramos. Gogoat charges at Ninjask.
"Double Team!" said Jonny. Paralysis stops Ninjask, allowing Gogoat to rams Ninjask, knocking him to the ground with swirly eyes.
"Ninjask is unable to battle. Gogoat wins the match." said the referee.
"Well done, Gogoat." said Ramos. Gogoat nods before wincing from Take Down's recoil damage. Jonny returns Ninjask to his pokeball.
"You were great, Ninjask." said Jonny. He puts Ninjask's pokeball away and pulls out another one. "Go, Charmeleon!" He tosses Charmeleon's pokeball and releases him. "Charmeleon, Fire Fang!" Charmeleon charges at Gogoat while his mouth was covered in flames and bites onto Gogoat, dealing super effective damage. Gogoat becomes covered in flames.
"Looks like Gogoat's burned." said Nazz.
"Use Bulldoze!" said Ramos. Gogoat slams his front hooves onto the arena floor, sending a shockwave at Charmeleon and hits him, doing super effective damage, and reducing his speed. Gogoat recieves damage from its burn.
"Use Flame Burst!" said Jonny. Charmeleon shoots a fireball out of his mouth, and it hits Gogoat, dealing super effective damage.
"Bulldoze!" said Ramos. Gogoat stomps the ground, releasing another shockwave that hits Charmeleon, dealing super effective damage. Gogoat recieves more damage from its burn. As Charmeleon struggles to stay on his feet, he becomes surrounded by a red-orange aura.
"That's Blaze!" said Jonny. "All right, Charmeleon, Flame Burst again!" Charmeleon fires a bigger fireball out of his mouth, and it hits Gogoat, dealing super effective damage and knocking it out.
"Gogoat is unable to battle. Charmeleon wins. The winner of this gym battle is the challenger, Jonny." said the referee.
"You did it, Charmeleon!" said Jonny. Charmeleon raises his arms and cheers.
"Jonny won!" said Nazz.
"Rolf believed in Jonny." said Rolf.
"You did great, Jonny!" said Kevin. Ramos returned Gogoat to its pokeball.
"I'm proud of you, Gogoat." said Ramos. He puts Gogoat's pokeball away and walks over to Jonny. "You've raised your Pokemon well, Jonny."
"Thanks, Ramos." said Jonny. Ramos reaches into his pocket and pulls out a Plant Badge and pokedollars.
"As proof of your victory here; I present you with the Plant Badge." said Ramos, giving Jonny the Plant Badge, and pokedollars.
"Right on!" said Jonny. Ramos turned towards the others.
"Which of you will be battling me, next?" asked Ramos.
"I will." said Kevin.
"Very well. As soon as I get my Pokemon healed, we will have our battle." said Ramos.
"I'll be waiting." said Kevin. Ramos and Jonny both went down the slide to get their Pokemon healed while Kevin walked to the arena. Rolf and Jonny have earned their Plant Badges; will Kevin be able to do the same?
