Author's Note from Mat49324: Oh, look, it's my 36th one-shot! Last time, I got inspiration from the Amber song from the band, 311. This time, it's a holiday weekend, and the spies never did celebrate the 4th of July in any episode while Valentine's Day was repeatedly used and not any other holidays or their summertime out of school. That's where I'll leave it. Anyway, for now, here's The Blue Time Ranger if he's got something he'd like to say while everyone's enjoying the 4th.

Author's Note from The Blue Time Ranger: It's probably already past the 4th of July by the time this goes live, but hey, it's never too early or late for a holiday-themed oneshot. They always come precisely as needed. While we wait for season seven of the OG show, let's keep up the pace with this little ditty. Fireworks ready? ROLL IT!

Title: Fancy Fireworks

Summary: How will the spies spend this 4th of July?

1:38 P.M. – The Spies' Beach House

It was another holiday weekend for the spies; half of them had gone to the store to pick up some food for a backyard pool party. Currently, Nick, Britney, and Alex were out picking up some food. Sam, Mat, Clover, and Blaine were prepping the backyard.

"I got the grill," Mat told Blaine.

"This is gonna be one good way to spend the 4th," Blaine chuckled.

"No way were we going to the beach this holiday weekend," Clover quipped.

"Totally," Sam added. "Beverly Hills is NUTS around this time of year..."

"Sounds like back home in the islands," Mat commented.

"Oh, this I gotta hear," Clover chuckled.

"That's why I avoid the beaches in general during 4th of July weekends through my life," Mat replied. "Parking's a real bitch unless you go REALLY early in the morning!"

"I can believe that," Sam chuckled.

"Plus the fireworks shows are a measly fifteen to thirty minutes or something like that," Mat replied.

"Not very long, eh?" Blaine commented.

"Well, I admit it might have been nice to try spend the holiday weekend at the beach if we didn't have this pool," Mat told the others.

"No arguments with that," Clover replied.

"Off a different subject, you guys still okay with me making spaghetti for this?" Mat asked.

"Yeah, please," Blaine stated with a grin.

"For our dinner, of course," Sam replied as she and Clover nodded in approval, too.

"So, we change after Nick and them come back?" Blaine asked.

"We can do it now," Sam replied. "Just abstain from the pool is all; after what Nick and Alex did last time... I don't think we'll have to worry about that."

"Well, that's a safe bet," Clover laughed.

Mat nodded and the present spies went to change.

Around two hours later, the rest of the spies returned to the beach house with their refreshments.

"Hey, we're back," Nick stated.

That's when they all saw the spies were suited up, Sam and Clover in two-pieces.

"You're starting the party already?" Alex asked.

"Sort of," Blaine admitted. "We decided to at least wait for pool shenanigans until you two got back."

"I kinda figured," Nick stated. "Kinda wish we could go to the beach, but this is a close second. I'm not dealing with that kind of parking madness."

"Oh, you feel the same way?" Mat chuckled.

"Dude, my mom and dad and I almost got t-boned one time we went to the lakefront fireworks show because some douche-canoe decided he wanted to try and claim the spot we'd just picked out," Nick quipped. "I've never seen dad that cheesed off in my life."

"Sounds like it was quite a hoot," Alex giggled.

"My favorite part was the stunned look Melissa had on her face," Nick replied. "I actually had to cover her ears back then, because that jerk actually started swearing at my dad."

"Dad swore sometimes, too, ya know," Nick's sister Melissa giggled as she stepped into the penthouse, having overheard the conversation.

"Yeah, but that guy was using words that no nine-year-old kid should have to hear," Nick quipped. "I sacrificed my own innocence to save yours."

"Oh, you," Melissa laughed. "Sounds like you've already got the barbecue started."

"If only the beach was an option," Britney sighed.

"I saw that place when I was coming in," Melissa quipped. "With those crowds, that's definitely a big ol' 'nope'."

"Yeah, what's the fun of beach parties if there's no freakin' room to party, right?" Clover proclaimed.

"Tell me about it," Blaine chuckled.

"Well, how 'bout I join you guys for this one?" Melissa offered.

"Why the heck not?" Alex laughed. "The more, the merrier, right?"

"Great, thanks," Melissa giggled while Clover closed the front door.

Melissa noticed Mat, and the two happened to share a kiss hello.

"Good to see you, Melissa," Nick added as the two shared a hug. "Dawn couldn't make it out here?"

"She's visiting some of her family," Melissa answered.

"So, what'd you guys get?" Clover asked.

"Welp, we got a lot of brats, hot dogs, all the barbecue essentials!" Alex chuckled.

"I picked up some cheesy brat patties that my family loves," Nick answered.

"And of course, some burgers, per Nick's request," Britney quipped. "He says there was a way his mom made burgers that was pretty incredible."

"Looks like some good stuff," Blaine remarked.

Mat looked pretty excited as well.

"Plus, I'm making my spaghetti for those who want," Mat added to the group.

"Awesome," Britney quipped.

"Who's making what?" Melissa wondered as she returned, wearing an orange and blue polka-dotted two-piece.

"I'm taking care of the burgers, for one," Nick quipped. "Gotta show you how delicious these things are when mom made them."

"I'm out here with the brats and hot dogs," Alex answered.

"And Mat's making the spaghetti, naturally," Britney chuckled.

"Well, I say we're just about set for our party, right?" Sam asked.

"Not quite," Nick chuckled.

"We've yet to change," Alex remarked.

Britney nodded in agreement, and the three of them went away.

"Of course," Sam laughed.

"And have I got some stuff to share with you on our past July 4 holidays," Melissa giggled.

"That ought to be good," Mat commented.

Nick, Alex, and Britney came back in their swimwear.

"Now we're set," Britney laughed.

Nick and Blaine had agreed to collaborate on using the spies' grill while Mat made his spaghetti in the kitchen when it was time.

"Well, let's get this party started!" Nick exclaimed.

He then joined Alex for a jump in the pool to get things started.

"Should we try the beach next year, or no?" Mat asked the others.

"Oh, definitely," Nick answered. "We should probably make plans early so we can get there ahead of time and beat the possible crowds, because yikes."

"I wonder if nighttime calls for a little kinkiness?" Clover giggled.

Sam and Alex chuckled since they could see Clover as that kind of "wild girl."

"...I'm not even going to dignify that with a response," Melissa sighed.

"Yeah, Clover's kinda the only one of us who'd really consider that kind of thing," Alex chuckled.

"Didn't you say Dawn accidentally did something like that a couple years ago?" Britney wondered.

"Only because some idiot thought it'd be a fun idea to try and swipe her swimsuit for a few yuks," Nick quipped. "I really wish I could have been there to see her retribution on that jerk-o."

"Yeah, it was pretty funny watching her dunk that guy a few times," Melissa giggled.

"Believe it or not, Mandy tried that a while ago," Clover stated. "She thought it'd be funny to try and embarrass me in front of everyone in that pool. Well, joke was on her, because not only am I proud of my body, Nick stopped her before she could even get close."

"Best part, she'll never know it was me," Nick laughed, seemingly unaware of Britney sneaking up behind him. "Gotta say, psychic powers can really come in handy sometimes."

Before Britney could strike, though, Nick waved his hand to telekinetically levitate some of the pool water into the air before causing it to splash down on Britney from above.

"...case in point," Nick quipped.

Suddenly, Nick found himself being pushed under the water courtesy of Melissa doing a handstand jump off of his shoulders, the infamous "up and over" that Haruka had always done.

"That's why you watch all sides, Nick," Melissa laughed.

"Oh, so Haruka taught you that, huh?" Nick proclaimed. "Well, two can play at that game!"

And so, another glorious water battle ensued.

The present spies all joined in the pool shenanigans, and some even came up with pool pranks of their own.

"Time to battle," Sam called out.

With that, Mat put her on his shoulders, and Clover got up on Blaine's shoulders.

"Okay, you..." Sam sneered at Clover.

"All right, how about we get it on already?!" Clover laughed as Blaine charged forward, but Mat dodged away easily, all the while Sam and Clover were swiping at each other from above.

"Wow, that's a throwback," Nick chuckled. "You in, Melissa?"

"You're on, bro," Melissa laughed.

Alex had no problem keeping Nick on her shoulders, and Britney decided to do the same for Melissa.

"Get ready to lose, sister," Nick sneered.

Melissa didn't have any of it.

"Three... two... one... FIGHT!" Melissa exclaimed.

They then began their tussle. It was a lot of fun to them, and Melissa tuned out every taunt Nick had in mind to throw at her.

In the end, after what seemed like a half-hour, when it only lasted about five minutes, Melissa got the final say and pushed Nick in the pool.

"Gotcha!" Melissa laughed.

Nick quickly resurfaced, sputtering slightly as he realized what had just happened.

"...welp, I guess that was gonna happen eventually," Nick chuckled.

After a good several hours of pool fun, and even some cannonballs, the spies had worked up an appetite when it was close to fireworks time.

"Well, I know I have an appetite," Alex commented.

The spies could hear the booms coming from who-knew-where while the boys got their foods ready.

"Man, Nick, you're actually kinda good at this," Blaine quipped as he watched Nick prepare the burgers.

"Well, when it comes to the burgers, it's the same way my mom always prepared them," Nick answered. "And yes, I am still jealous that mister 'rookie cook' got it so right on the first try and nothing will stay my gavel."

"If you insist," Blaine chuckled.

In the meantime, Mat was in the kitchen preparing his spaghetti.

Sam and Britney came in and asked Mat if he wanted any help.

"Not going to say no," Mat quipped.

Before long, everything was prepared, and Sam and Britney helped Mat bring his spaghetti outside while Mat got some paper plates.

"Spaghetti's ready for whoever wants," Mat told the others.

"All right, let's just cut the small talk and chow down already!" Melissa laughed.

With that, the spies set out to enjoy their meal.

"...holy crapbaskets, Nick, you were right, these burgers are delicious!" Alex laughed. "What's your secret? ...or is it too closely guarded?"

"It's nothing that special, really," Nick chuckled. "It's really just normal, store-grade hamburger meat, but the way my mom prepared it was just out of this world. As much as I love me a good burger, I'd always default to the ones mom would make."

"Ain't that the truth," Melissa quipped. "Every single time mom said she'd be making her burgers for dinner, your eyes just lit up like I'm sure the sky is gonna tonight."

"Guilty as charged," Nick admitted.

Once dinner was taken care of, it was only a matter of time before the fireworks were set to start, and the spies were already outside, just to make sure they wouldn't miss anything.

"Hey, I think it's just about showtime!" Melissa stated.

Sure enough, a light flew up into the sky before exploding into a flourish of multi-colored lights. Soon enough, more started flying up, and the show was on in earnest.

Nick couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that Sam and Mat had already started cuddling with each other.

And, if the look in Alex's eyes was any indication, she wanted something similar, so Nick decided to humor her.

The two couples stayed close to each other for the entirety of the show, simply enjoying the spectacular display.

"Aw, man, it's over already?" Alex groaned.

"Yeah, that's the thing about these fireworks shows," Nick quipped. "You spend so much time preparing for them, and when it finally happens, it's over in the blink of an eye."

"If I remember correctly, mom always made that same comparison about barbecues in our family," Melissa chuckled. "All that cooking, all day long, and it only took us fifteen minutes to actually eat it."

"Too true, sis," Nick answered.

"Hey, are you two okay?" Mat asked, just now noticing Nick and Melissa's expressions. "You both look a little sad."

"It's still a little hard sometimes," Nick admitted.

"We both miss our parents dearly," Melissa answered. "And sometimes, the memories can make us a little sad, knowing we won't be getting any more of those memories."

"But at the same time, we know they'd want us to be strong, for them," Nick responded. "So, let's not focus on the sad and enjoy the fun."

Suddenly, more fireworks started exploding in the sky.

"Guess they weren't done just yet," Mat laughed.

"Gives us more time to enjoy them, right?" Alex quipped.

And that's just what they did.
