"Ta-da!" Cat springs from his stall, in his disguise a big happy grin on his features. "Cat, who are you?" I try to hold back my giggles as Cat literally looks like he has been dipped in gold, save his beautiful emerald green eyes. Cat gives me a look like it should be totally obvious. "Why, I'm Lumiere," he pouts, showing with a small twirl making his suit coat flare out. "From Beauty and Beast? Kitty, we're trying to defeat a villain here, not play dress up!" "Well, well, you look that feather duster? What was her name? Plumette! See, it rhymes with Marinette and both she and Lumiere fell in love!"
Cat's tail swishes back and forth, and I let my laughter bubble to the surface. "You never stop, do you, Kitty?" "What, my undying love for my Princess? Or my puns?" I snort. "Both! Okay, let's do it, but if you see anything with horns and roars, I'm so outta here." "Hey, at least I'm not like Gaston, that boastful snob of a man. Yuk!"
We find another door and quietly tug it open. This set of stairs leads upwards, and already you can tell just how much more posh it is. We're certainly beneath the castle and we slip into a grand hallway unnoticed.
"You two!" a voice bellows and we jump. Well, that didn't last long. "You need to get to the kitchens, then its time for mopping and scrubbing! Oh my, I'm late!" The tall man scurries quickly past us still muttering about time.
"Shall we, Bugaboo?" My partner bows then gives a sly wink. I blush. How is so charming? "I don't think we have much of a choice!"
We get a couple of looks but we eat and eat until our bellies are stuffed, as we haven't eaten much in the past two days.
An interesting conversation starts up and Cat and I listen in. "Did you see Corvus earlier? If he doesn't get his hands on those Miraculous soon, he'll stay a bird forever!" "Ugh, did you see all those feathers? Disgusting, revoltingly disgusting!"
I press a napkin to my mouth to hide my laughter, whoever said that reminds of me a class bully back in high school named Chloe. I take a quick look at the speaker and though they have blonde hair, it isn't mine or Adrien's old rival.
"What happened to Corvus anyway? When's he's not a bird, he's one of the handsomest talented designers in the world!" "Someone has a crush," Cat sings in my ear, but I shake my head at him. Any little tidbit of information is vital.
"Cursed he was," a voice comes from down the end of the table. We all turn to look at the speaker, dabbing his lips with a napkin. "Made a deal with a Moth or something, and ended up cursed."
I feel a small poke and Cat slides me a napkin.
Moth as in Hawkmoth? I read silently and we lock eyes with each other. "How Gabriel Agreste put a curse on Corvus remains a mystery, but I'd say it was jealously."
"How much time does Corvus have before he turns completely?" someone asks in a hushed voice and I take Cat's hand. "Not long."
Dinner breaks soon after that, and we're giving our instructions about where to clean next from a man who seems to be in charge.
I dust as Cat begins to dim lights and lights candles, as we now know Corvus likes candles at night. "Despite him being evil, I almost feel sorry for him," I whisper to my partner. Cat sighs. "I know, love, but turning evil to break a curse isn't the answer. Like my father's heart, Corvus's has hardened his."
I sigh. Fighting evil is never fun, even with your best friend by your side.
Eventually, a small bell rings and we're told that it signals the end of the day. Since we're in disguise here, we find a small cupboard to hide away. Well, I hide in there, anyway. Cat claims he needs more space, and wanders away.
I curl into a small ball, already feeling a bit claustrophobic, but I must do my duty. Around three in the morning, I hear a small knock and I know its Cat because we made a secret code knock before we said goodnight.
Feeling sleepy, I crack my door open. "I found coffee!" Cat cheers, chewing on some sort of pastry. "I brought you a goody bag. Do you love me even more meow?"
This boy. "Come on, I'll try to make room." "Ow, your on my tail!" "Sorry!" I squeak, and giggle when Cat picks up his tail. "Don't worry, she didn't mean it."
I cough. "Would you and your tail like to be alone?" "Bugaboo, it has a life of its own!" "Oh, I'm aware!"
Eventually I have to shove him out, because its just way to crowded. "Fine," he grins, giving me a playful wink. He wanders off, and I pray he doesn't get into trouble.
Cat wandered about, and if it wasn't so early, he might have started whistling. However, he heard the harsh cry of a bird, and had to go investigate.
What he saw caught his interest. Corvus was in full bird form, hopping around a large room and cawing, holding a gleaming necklace from his beak.
Cat's cat mode activated, and with a joyful meow begin to chase the crow around the room. Shrieks could soon be heard and servants came scurrying in, rubbing sleep from there eyes, Ladybug among them.
"Oh, Cat," she groaned to herself. "A stray cat must have gotten in last night," she tried to joke and called, "Here, Kitty! Kitty!"
Cat played along as she scooped him up, laughter and applause following out of the room. "What were you thinking?" she hissed. "Hey, I see bird, I chase. Meow."
It took Corvus longer to change back, but when he did he was furious. "Find that cat and servant. Bring them to me now."
