Chapter 6: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie
The Squad were lined up as the Director spoke "these findings are very troubling, even as the Director of this organization I was never made aware of these findings" Aiko used her tablet to show the Director more "these experiments that were conducted are from over 40 years ago, even before Kurata which is actually very fortunate, who knows what kind of things that man would have done" Taikei looked at the videos from the file aswell, it made him sick as Aiko continued "D.A.T.S Scientists were given permission to run tests with the Virus, infusing it with other materials, to see how it would react, exposing it to certain conditions including extreme heat and cold, the Virus seems to be very resistant to all conditions, even radiation" Aiko hesitated to continue, as if she was afraid of what was next. The Director paitiently waited, Keiko put her hand on Aiko's shoulder "you can do this" Aiko looked back an nodded "they...also conducted live experiments on captive Digimon" Aiko showed a video, the video showed an operating room with a number of scientists surrounding a table with a Digimon strapped to it, a glass container surrounded the Digimon, another scientist approached with a vial full of a red and black liquid, the scientist inserted the vial into a port onto the container and the liquid slowly seeped through, suddenly, as of the liquid had a mind of its own it attacked the Digimon seeping through its skin as it writhed in pain. After the liquid had immersed itself into the Digimon it went limp, as if it had died, the Digimon suddenly began to twitch and shift as its very flesh began to morph and it changed forms, red Xs appeared on its eyes and it began to go into a frenzy, the video cut and left the room silent.
The Squad sat around their briefing table. Keiko spoke up "I can tell what everyone is thinking, and I wouldn't blame you if you have lost faith in D.A.T.S, what we all saw in that video was...disturbing to say the least, so I am giving you this opportunity, you may back out now, whether it be for what you saw in the videos, or if its for the shady dealings of D.A.T.S in general, I will not blame you, nor will I hold any resentment towards you". The rest of the Team stood there all looking at one another, Taikei spoke up "we all swore an oath, if we wanted to back out then we would've" Akira was next "yeah, we're already this deep, time to see where it all goes" Daichi added on "if we want change, might aswell do it from the inside". Keiko smiled "well then if we are all in agreement-" Keiko was cut short when suddenly the lights shut off and red illuminated the building signaling a power failure, Mamoru looked around "well that's not ominous at all" Daichi moved toward a door "I'll take a look at the Breaker, Betamon Realize!" Daichi opened the door to the maintainence room, the light from his Digivice illuninated his path. Daichi maneuvered through the pipes and wires, Betamon looked around his fin quivering "Daichi...I don't like this, I don't feel alone in here" Daichi responded "obviously buddy, I'm here" Betamon whispered back to him "not what I meant". Daichi made it to the fuse room, Daichi opened the door and was shocked at what he saw, the fuse room was destroyed every breaker box was sliced up and the backup generator had been ripped out from its station "Betamon, we need to get back to the others!" Betamon suddenly shouted "watch out!" Daichi could barely react when a flash of shadow knocked Daichi to the ground "Betamon! Plan B3!" Betamon nodded and his fin glowed causing a massive flash of light, Daichi and Betamon ran out of the room and down the hallway, he looked behind him to see multiple dark shadows chasing him, one lept at him and Daichi screamed.
Everyone looked at the hallway where the scream originated "Akira, find out what's going on" Akira nodded and rushed down the hallway, she shined a light to see Daichi lying on the ground, blood was seeping out of a wound on his shoulder and Betamon was also on the floor not moving, Akira shined her light at the figure standing over them, it was a cloaked figure with a blade raised about to kill Daichi. Akira sprung into action "Impmon, Plan D6!" Impmon realized and immediately shot a fireball hitting the cloaked figure, Akira grabbed Daichi and Betamon "good thing you two are the lightweights" Akira and Impmon met up with the others, Aiko examined Betamon and Daichi "deep stab wound but non-lethal, he does need medical attention however" just as the others were getting their bearings Impmon heard something down the hallway, two sharp objects rocketed out of the dark hallway, Impmon acted quickly and blasted the two objects causing and explosion that sent her flying back "Impmon!" Akira screamed. Taikei, Mamoru, and Aiko brought out their Digimon "get ready team, we've got intruders".
A shadowy figure rushed out of the darkness and moved across the room at a blinding speed, Veemon followed the movements, his eyes were glowing a light blue, he pinpointed where it was about to be and shot forward like a missle making impact with the figure smashing into the ceiling, both of them fell to the ground, Veemon raised his fist to strike but he was knocked away by another intruder, the third one struck Veemon straight into the Meeting Table smashing it to pieces "Veemon!" Taikei shouted. Aiko analyzed "our opponents are Digimon, atleast Ultimate Level" Mamoru turned to Keramon "Attack Plan Delta!" Keramon floated underneath Mamoru's arm, Mamoru grabbed one of Keramon's antenna and its tentacles, Keramon opened its mouth and began to rapid fire balls of energy, the figures dodged the barrage, one of them swiftly closed the distance and brought its blade up to strike Mamoru, Tentomon suddenly blocked the blade with its claw, Mamoru turned to the intruder and fired filling the target with energy bolts knocking them away.
All three of the Assassins lined up and a storm of knives were thrown at the Squad, Mamoru blasted a number of knives out of the air but he couldn't stop all of them "Tentomon, Defensive Measures" Tentomon nodded "Yes Ma'am" Tentomon got in the middle of the group "Electric Field!" suddenly a dome of electricity enveloped the Squad and stopped the knives but they just kept coming "we need an escape plan" Akira shouted while putting Daichi on her shoulders, with Taikei looking around "the Meeting Room is right above the hangar right?" Aiko nodded "yes, that is correct" Mamoru looked at Taikei "the hell are you planning?" Taikei looked at Veemon "wind up a big hit buddy" he then looked at Mamoru "trust me, if this doesn't work you can make fun of me when we get to Hell, Tentomon, on my signal, drop the shield" Tentomon looked for confirmation from Aiko who silently nodded. "Now!" Taikei shouted, at the same time Veemon punched the ground and Tentomon dropped the shield, the floor caved in and all of them fell to the next floor, Aiko hitched a ride on Tentomon and Mamoru with Keramon, Taikei, Akira, Impmon, and Veemon landed with Betamon and Daichi intact, they were now in the hangar.
Akira propped Daichi up on a box and tended to his wound spraying it with a solution that began to heal it, Daichi looked up "they're coming" he said weakly as the three Assassins lept down, when they landed one of them struck Veemon sending him into a wall, Veemon recovered quickly and responded with a rocket headbutt into one of them sending them flying. Keramon and Tentomon blasted at them, the three mystery Digimon maneuvered through the attacks and battled Veemon, Veemon dodged a slash and hit the Assassin with a donkey kick that sent it up into the air, Veemon leaped up and hit the Assassin with an axekick that caused it to crater into the ground. The two other Assassins discussed amongst themselves and seemed to agree upon something, they both rushed Veemon sending him straight into a vehicle, the third one recovered and jumped up knocking both Mamoru and Keramon to the ground "these guys are too powerful, and visibility is not the best" Akira stated. Taikei responded "I've got a solution to the visibility problem" Taikei's hand glowed with DNA and he slammed it on his Digivice "Veemon Digivolve to...Veedramon!" Veedramon made his way to the bay doors and shoved his hands between them and pried them open letting in the light from outside revealing the intruders, Aiko looked at them, they were all dressed in white garbs with ling sleeves, all had purple bandanas on their heads and they wielded crimson red blades "they're Reapmon! Assassin Digimon" the three Reapmon lept at Veedramon, Veedramon smirked and blasted all three of them vaporizing them leaving only Digi-Eggs behind.
The Squad cheered "we managed to beat them, good job team, I wonder though, how did they get into the base?" The celebration was cut short by something flying in through the bay doors and grabbing Veedramon slamming him into the ground, it was a large serpentine-like Digimon with metallic hands and a metal covering for "a Megadramon? Here?" Akira shouted confused, Veedramon punched Megadramon knocking it off of him, he then grabbed the tail and spun it around before releasing it and it went flying straight through the wall. Suddenly more Digimon flooded in restraining Veedramon and surrounding the others, a singular Digimon then entered the hangar carrying what seemed to be D.A.T.S Agents who were wearing black uniforms, except for one, an older man with a black formal suit, he had a small Dragon-like Digimon by his side.
The man approached the Squad "Good Morning Agents, I do regret to inform you all that you will no longer be operating as Covert Agents, I am sorry for this". Veedramon threw the Digimon off of him and fired a sweeping beam causing a scramble to avoid the beam, everyone looked at one another and nodded, everyone's hands flickered with DNA as all of them slammed on their Digivices "Betamon Digivolve to...Seadramon!" "Keramon Digivolve to...Kurisarimon!" "Tentomon Digivolve to...Kabuterimon!" "Impmon Digivolve to...Witchmon!" The battle ensued.
Veedramon grabbed a Tyrannomon by the snout and tossed it across the hangar, Kurisarimon wrapped its tentacles around a Megadramon but it grabbed Kurisarimon and slammed it on the ground and began to squeeze Kurisarimon. Seadramon rushed over and blasted Megadramon in the eyes with ice breath, Megadramon let go of Kurisarimon, Kurisarimon stabbed Megadramon and drained data out of it it, Kurisarimon let go of the dragon, it retracted its tentacles and missles appeared out of its ports, it fired a swarm of missles into the bay breaking up the bigger groups "Divide and Conquer people, we've gotta strike while the iron's hot!" Mamoru exclaimed. Witchmon turned her broom around and launched a massive missle from the bristles hitting a Kuwagamon that was airborne, the man in the suit cracked a grin "I do love it when they fight back, Dracomon, would you like to join in?" Dracomon nodded ferociously "good, DNA...Charge" Dracomon Digivolved into a large Dinosaur-like Dragon with green scales "Coredramon, take care of that Veedramon, he's much too troublesome" Coredramon roared and flew forward at blinding speed, Coredramon tackled Veedramon sending them both into a wall, Coredramon had Veedramon by the horn and hit him with bodyshots. Veedramon broke Coredramon's grip and hit it with a right hook, Veedramon grabbed its tail and slammed it into the wall beside it, Veedramon then lifted the green dragon and smashed it onto the floor, Coredramon got up but Veedramon continued the assault, Veedramon tackled Coredramon lifting it up on his shoulders and jumping into the ceiling, both fell with Veedramon still holding Coredramon, Veedramon then slammed Coredramon into the floor.
Meawhile in the Director's Office
The Director opened typed into a panel on the wall, the wall opened to reveal a tube, it filled with light and he entered it, the Director found himself in the Outsiders Base in the middle of the battle. The Director raised his Digivice "Patamon Realize!" A creature appeared from his Digivice, it was like a small hamster with bat wings on its head "DNA Charge!" Patamon Digivolved into a large horse-like monster with a golden mask and gold armor "Pegasusmon, defend my team!" Pegasusmon flew high into the air and its wings began to shine brightly and stars shot out hitting the hostile Digimon with deadly accuracy. Veedramon held Coredramon in a headlock, Coredramon slipped out swiped at Veedramon, Veedramon ducked and got behind it grabbing the dragon by its waist and suplexing it into the hard metal floor.
Coredramon stood up and faced Veedramon but its Agent held up his hand signaling it to stop "what's the matter? Had enough?" Veedramon taunted with Coredramon snorting and exhaling smoke out of its nostrils, the man turned his attention toward the Director "my, my, you grace us with your presence, its very rare for the Director himself to get involved with the affairs of us" Director spoke clearly and to the point "take your Hitsquad and pull out of this operation, these agents and this operation is under me and me alone, whatever they do and whatever they uncover is under my direct order and is automatically approved by me" the man pursed his lips "as you wish" he turned to the Squad "I do apologise for my rash decisions team, carry on". The man signaled for his men to retreat, his Agents did as they were signaled and retreated "Director, I do hope that what you find won't release any other skeletons such as myself".
After the men left the Director turned to the Squad "I owe you all an explanation" Aiko spoke up "yes...you do" Keiko also stepped forward "that was Skeleton Division" The Director sighed "Skeleton Division was supposed to be a defunct section of DATS that was meant for disposing of those who attempted to harm DATS, that includes leaking or discovering secrets, it was dissolved decades ago or so we thought. Turns out they were still in service which was not known to me, or even any other Director, with all of this, you all still have the option to opt out if this is too much" Taikei looked to Daichi "I think Daichi should get to decide, he was the one who got the worst" Daichi stepped forward "Director...I did not expect to be stabbed by a Digimon when I woke up today...but as a Black Ops unit, these are the risks that come with the job" Daichi clenched his teeth and held his shoulder "I still want to stay, but we need to get all the protection we need" The Director nodded "since you all still operate without the public knowing your existence I will do all I can, I do realise that leaving you all on your own was my fault, I will do more to protect you all." The Director snapped his fingers and Pegasusmon turned back into Patamon "bye guys! It was nice to meet you!" Patamon flapped onto The Director's shoulder and nuzzled his cheek "farewell Agents, I will see you all soon". The Director left the site, Mamoru looked around "man...it'll take me atleast a month to fix all the damages to the hangar" his eyes met with the destroyed Carrier "oh my baby! He ran over to it and hugged the side of it. Keiko turned to Aiko "what's the extent of the damages" Aiko shrugged "I'd need to see the damages first" Keiko nodded "oh yeah, that's right, well let's go to the engine room and assess the damages" Keiko and Aiko went to the engine room, Taikei, Akira, and Daichi stood there "come on Daichi, let's go to Medbay and get you patched up.
Akira stitched Daichi's wound "man, that Digimon got you good" Akira signaled Taikei, Taikei dressed the stitches with gauze "yeah man, that's gonna leave a wicked scar" Daichi laughed "y'know I've been in the field before but I've never been so scared for my life when that thing chased me through that hallway, I really thought I was gonna die there" Akira smiled "totally, but you've got teammates to depend on" Taikei nodded "yeah man, we got you" Daichi started tearing up and Akira hugged him with Taikei giving a reassuring pat on his back.
