Chapter Twenty Two: The Volturi

When Tanya boarded the plane in London everything became even more confusing and no questions were answered about what was happening or why. Edward was so wrapped up in his business dealings between our flight to London and back to Forks that none of us had even laid eyes upon him until we were getting out of the SUVs at the house.
When I stepped out of the car I immediately took Emmett's hand as both of us along with Tanya began to take note all of all the additional security.
"Edward what's going on?" Tanya asked him
Edward ignored us and continued walking to the house.
Emmett held my hand tighter as we followed Edward to the front door of the house.
Edward entered the house without a word and we followed him in to find Bella stood in the foyer. I gave her a one armed hug as to not get to close that she might feel the extend of my workouts and note my changed body, Edward however took immediate note of my acts of course.
"Brother." Bella greeted Emmett who kissed her cheek before she hugged Tanya.
When we got upstairs to the main sitting room the fire was on and candles were lit giving a gentle glow to the room.
"Sit." Edward then said to us and Emmett and I sat together on the sofa as Tanya sat in the armchair and Edward stood in the center. Bella stood across from Edward and before I could say a word Tanya did.
"Something's happen." She said.
Emmett nodded "Something that required all of us apparently."
Edward looked to Bella "Go ahead, tell them. They'll find out soon enough." Edward then said.
Bella looked to us then and Emmett reached for my hand.
"Two days ago I went to work to meet with Melina."
"Wait Melina?" I asked
Bella nodded.
"Aro's first wife?" Tanya asked shocked.
Bella nodded again.
"Why?" Emmett then asked.
"Melina claimed she wanted to meet with Bella alone, and for there to be a public photograph of them together at Fashion Week." Edward explained before locking eyes with Bella "Bella went against my wishes and met with her."
I looked to Bella then "Why would you go alone?" I then asked her.
"Because I thought it was in the best interest of the family. To show good faith." Bella replied.
"Faith?" Emmett then said "In Aro?"
Edward shook his head at Bella his eyes growing darker in result.
"Edward I'm sorry but-"
"Don't bother." Edward then said cutting Bella off.
Bella sighed and looked to us "But Melina didn't want to meet with me, she wanted to frame me." she said.
"Frame you? How?" Tanya then asked.
Bella looked to Edward then.
"Tell them what you already knew before I went to New York." she said to him.
Edward looked to us "Melina is pregnant. With Aro's child."
I covered my mouth and Tanya's eyes widened.
"Which means Aro will have a legitimate heir to carry on the Volturi name, which makes me appear weaker in the eyes of our clans."
"Weaker?" Emmett asked.
"Some of the older clans believe more in tradition than profits and mergers, it's all about family," Tanya looked to Edward "You were trying to protect Bella from knowing the truth."
Edward nodded.
"Wait a minute." I then said "So Melina set Bella up?"
Bella crossed her arms slowly "She revealed she was pregnant and the next thing I know she was screaming for help into the phone, claiming I was attacking her," she paused "Before she poured blood she had kept hidden in a red wine bottle all over her legs and where she was sitting so it looks like I...punched her or something."
"But you would never," I paused my heartbreaking as I said "After what you went through."
Bella nodded.
"Edward what happens now?" Emmett then asked.
"I haven't heard from the Volturi but my sources say Melina's pregnancy is very real and I have photographs of her and Aro meeting upon her return to Italy. There's a bump in the photographs."
"A bump? So it's true." Tanya then said shocked.
Edward nodded.
I asked the question no one wanted to ask.
"It's a boy...isn't it?"
Edward sighed before nodding.
"Fuck." Emmett then said.
Marco entered the room then his eyes fixed upon Edward who gave him a nod before following Marco out of the room.
Emmett stood then "I've never seen him like that."
"Like what?" I then asked.
"Scared." Emmett replied.
"You're scared too." I told him.
"Rose this is different." Emmett then said.
"How?" I asked him.
"Edward doesn't scare easy Rose, if he's scared of what this means...then we should be too." Emmett then said.
"Everyone just keep calm." Tanya whispered as Bella took a seat on an arm chair across from me.
"Bella are you okay? Stupid question I know but please," I paused "Tell us what we can do to help."
"She's right." Emmett agreed "Whatever it is you need."
Bella looked to him then "Do you think you could give us a minute alone?"
Emmett looked to me and I nodded.
"Sure." Emmett then said before kissing my cheek and leaving the room with Tanya.
Bella turned to me then.
"What's going on?" I asked her.
Bella then got up and took a seat on the coffee table edge in front of Tanya and I.
"The night of Edward's party." Bella said and immediately caused Tanya and I to shake our heads and move uncomfortably in our seats.
"Please just listen to what I have to say." Bella then said.
I looked to Tanya and she nodded.
"Go on." I then said to Bella.
"The night of Edward's party, besides the obvious moments we don't talk about. I knew that night after he came back to me that I knew the three of us had a secret forever. And I'm not some naive young girl, okay." Bella paused to mouth "You two slept with him."
Tanya and I again shifted uncomfortably.
"But I asked you to do it. Because I knew I could trust both of you to treat it the way it was supposed to be. And now I really need to know if I can trust you again because my family needs you both, I need you both to do something to me that might keep my husband standing in power. Power that he's worked so hard to have and power that he deserves. He is what is needed in this underground world, he keeps everything on level and nothing gets past him. He is what the West coast states need. And I need him to stay in power, not just for him but for us."
"What is it exactly you're asking us to do?" Tanya asked.
Bella sighed "How is asking this harder than asking you to do what you did before?" she asked herself.
"Bella okay, just, take a minute." I tell her and place my hand over hers.
"Yeah I can't cause I'll stop myself if I don't say it now."
"Say what?" Tanya asked.
Bella locked eyes with us at long last "If we're going to show Aro we are the power here, then," she paused and inhaled deeply "I need the two of you to pose as Edward's possible future wives."
Tanya and I froze unable to speak.
Bella continued "Pose as his future wives, allow the clans to believe you're cheating with him at first, then slowly we all begin to be seen with him at events, where two or three of us are on his arm."
"Bella you can't be serious." I then said.
Bella nodded "I am."
Tanya shook her head "Bella it's..."
"It's crazy." I then said.
"Bella it is actually crazy," Tanya told her before glancing at me "Rosalie is Edward's sister."
"Really? That's even an issue after Edward's birthday?" Bella whispered.
She had a point there.
"But still, why us?"
"Why can I trust more than the two of you with him?" Bella challenged.
"I need more information" Tanya told her.
"Rosalie is Edward's sister which means to the...I'll say it the freaks out there...it will show them that Edward is so determined to grow his empire that he would marry his own sister because...well," Bella shrugged "I'm sorry Rosalie but you are stunning and we all know it so-"
I held my hand upon and mouthed "Okay, stop it." To Bella.
"Sorry." Bella said to me.
"So let me get this straight." Tanya then said "You want Rosalie and I to pose as Edward's future wives but first look like we're having an affair with him?"
"The clans need to believe Edward capable of anything, first cheating on his wife, just as Aro did. I mean how long after he married Melina did he go after...what's her name?" Bella then asked.
"It doesn't even matter. Because we're not doing this." I whispered.
Bella sighed "Rose come on-"
"No!" I then said and stood to my feet.
"Rosalie." Tanya then said.
"No Tanya!" I said turning to face her "We're not doing it."
"Rosalie." Bella said standing to her feet.
"Bella this is insane, do you realize what you're asking us to do?" I paused "Edward wouldn't even agree to this."
"No and he didn't like the arrangements for that night either...but he still went through with it."
None of us spoke we just focused on the sound of the slowly approaching footsteps. I turned to look at Edward along with the others and he entered with his hands in his pockets and Marco by his side.
"What is it now?" Bella asked him.
Edward glanced over his shoulder at Marco who nodded before leaving the room.
"Something's wrong." Tanya said beside me.
Edward looked to us then "Aro and the rest of the Volturi have just arrived in New York, my sources there have confirmation that Aro intends to take over the East coast states and go head to head with me for my efforts in killing his unborn son."
"Wait, your efforts?" I repeated.
Edward looked away "Melina told him that I sent Bella to do my dirty work, that Melina wouldn't have met with me but she trusted in another woman. She thought that having suffered a miscarriage herself that Bella would be no threat to her or her child."
"So what does this mean?" Bella asked him.
"It means none of us are going anywhere." Tanya replied as Marco's men began filling the room.
