Tommy stared at the ceiling, watching the fan in his room spin until he woke up to birds chirping. He move his arms, touching on the person next to him. "Not good. I slept through my alarm, I'll see you at school." He watch her put on her clothes as she went toward his window, moving the curtains, making sure no one was outside. She seem to want to say something but she pick up her stuff from the night stand. "Phil been getting suspicious lately, I might not be able to come over for a while." Tommy walked up to her and gave her a hug, "Thanks for coming over Lil. She hug tighter on to him.
"That's what friends are for Tommy." She climb out the window, jumping down and walking directly into her yard. She look around, as she walk to her room window and open it, waving goodbye at him before entering inside. Tommy, closing his window and laying down his bed, knowing he was going back to sleep to get those two extra hours. He didn't realize when it happened, as he got up from his bed, now wondering how both Lil and himself became close friends. He knew Phil wouldn't be happy about this but they weren't doing anything wrong.
His reasoning couldn't help the thought that he knew of a possibility that she like him more than a friend. He thought at first she like Chuckie, at least from the way they both interacted. That's why he didn't know what to do. 'I might be overthinking it, dad did tell me something about this.' He look at the time, forcing himself to get up from the bed, heading toward his bathroom as he went to take a hot shower. Tommy mind wondering about the now, Lil, she's always there at his side.
His phone got a notification, a text message. 'Tommy, was that Lil climbing out your window again?' Grabbing his phone to type a quick response, waiting for her to respond. 'Yeah, alright. At least tell Phil about it.' Tommy, reading as he type a response. 'Really?! Tommy, I'll believe you but I know you're not that clueless.' Tommy send one more response, he watch as she read his message, she didn't respond. He knew Kimi was right but he didn't know why she cared when she got herself a boyfriend.
Kimi behavior ever since she learn about the sleep over's with Lil, he put doubt on his thought as he didn't want to assume. 'No way Kimi is jealous of me and Lil hanging out.' It didn't make sense to Tommy on why, now on his side, he of course had an actual reason on not being happy to see her with another guy. He really did need someone and Lil wouldn't tell the guys about his current dilemma. She really did help keep his mind busy. Many nights of remembering about Kimi wasn't helping him, it was making it worse.
"Hey Lil. Hey Phil." Tommy sat next to them on the bus. Phil seem to have something to say but Lil stop whatever was about to be said. "Hey Tommy. Are you going to my soccer game today? I'll love the support from you guys." Tommy nodded at that, as he wouldn't miss that for anything. "I'll be there." Phil eyeing him, until it came out.
"Are you guys dating or something?" What felt like many conversations happening in that now cramp space in the bus suddenly stop on those words. "I'm not angry about it Tommy, you should have just told me." He look at Phil who turn to Lil, she seem to wait for Tommy to say something. "I don't want to make it more than what it is, Phil. We just been hanging out more but I wouldn't go behind your back if we did." It sounded good in his head, Lil blush at his words and Phil knew immediately what that meant. That bus ride felt longer than usual. Tommy knew it'll be better for them to discuss this later as he sent a text to Phil to meet after school.
"Look, Phil. I would tell you and not leave you like that in the dark." As they both walk toward Lil soccer game, Tommy let the silence continue. "Tommy, we been like brothers since we're kids. I trust you, I know you solid. It's just I didn't think I'll be talking to you about this, ever." Tommy nodded agreeing. "It's different being grown up Phil, I remember us as kids and how we use to be able just hang out." Tommy stop walking, making Phil do the same as the cheering got louder from the soccer game. "I'm not sure about life sometimes, It seem easier back then, than now." They finally arrive to the field. Walking to the bleachers, sitting at the best spot to watch the game.
Lil been worried this whole time. Afraid of how her brother would react, she walk out the field along with her teammates, as she walk to the middle of the field, she look toward the bleachers. Her relief when she saw her brother and Tommy, she wave at them and they did the same in return. She'll show them a good game. The crowd cheered on as the refree blew the whistle to start the match. Tommy couldn't help staring at her, he's always been awestruck by her and the way she played. "You got this Lil!" Tommy couldn't help yelling his support for his friend.
Lil feeling more motivation to win as Tommy and her brother cheer her on, she pass the ball to her teammate who score the team a point. The crowd cheering, each time their team scored. One girl on the other team took the ball from Lil, as Lil gave chase to take it away, she side step making the girl confuse by the movement choice, as she didn't have time to react to the ball being taken. Lil kicking it to her teammate as they score the point to push their team further to finish up the game. The referee stopping the game announcing Lil team as the winners.
When the girls went to the locker room, Lil saw Tommy and Phil waiting for her near the entrance. She went toward them until she remembered that she just got done playing a game, she kept her distance. Tommy didn't seem to notice, her brother gave her a smirk as he knew her to well. "Lil that was amazing, I don't know how you got control of the ball that way but you make it seem easy." Lil loving the compliment, Phil walking to her. "Tommy is right. Did you see? Dad recorded the whole game, mom couldn't stop herself from cheering you on." She remember running the fields and spotting them as she made a point.
Phil look at Tommy and Lil, he mumble something as he began walking. "See you two later, I'm going get a head start Lil, Mom cooking celebration dinner." They both look at each other before turning, watching Phil waving goodbye to them until the distance grew further. Disappearing from their view. "Hey Tommy, I'm going to go change, can you wait for me?" Tommy nodded giving a yes, as she's heading inside the locker room, he laid his back against the wall. "Wow, I don't know what to believe now." Tommy startle, seeing Kimi who caught him off guard, she could see he wasn't happy to see her. "Why you here, shouldn't you be with your boyfriend?"
Kimi look at Tommy with arch brow as she seem confuse about what he said. "He was never my boyfriend in the first place Tommy." Her disbelief when figuring out that a lot of people got the wrong misconception about them, her guy friend used it to his advantage. She got a smile from the shock written on his face. "Don't tell me this is the reason you started acting cold towards me. I found it odd you kept your distance." Tommy, dumbfounded by the revelation as they both felt the presence of someone, Lil being that person standing there, not sure what to do. "I'm guessing you're busy now Tommy, Hey Kimi, Thanks for showing up to my game." She didn't want to break down deciding to walk back home before she break down in public, she turn to look to them one more time, instantly she jump from Tommy and Kimi being behind her.
"Sorry Lil, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if anything happen to you. We all can walk home together." Tommy seem to have found himself new energy, "We haven't hang out in a while with the gang, we should go somewhere. Get Chuckie, Phil, Dill…" Tommy turn back to seeing the girls quietly talking about something, he ignore his curiosity and kept watching their surroundings.
