Penelope had just taken a seat at her computer desk when she heard a soft cough come from behind her. Turning her head, she saw Hotch standing there, and her shoulders instantly slumped as she looked into his eyes. "Don't tell me, you've already got a new case for me to gather inof on for the briefing?"
He shook his head as he lowered himself onto the edge of her desk. "No, I'm still waiting on some documents from the local sheriff's office. This was actually something more personal in nature."
She could see that he wasn't the most comfortable with this discussion, so she tried to be as open as possible as she looked into his eyes. "I hope that you're not going to profess your undying love for me, Hotch. Derek might have a thing or two to say about that," she teased, watching his cheeks pinken though his expression remained entirely neutral.
"While I might love you as a sister, Garcia, that is not the purpose of my being here this morning. What I'm about to say will not leave these four walls, as neither of us are entirely comfortable with our relationship being public at this time. And before you interrupt me, remember that I know you, and your penchant for digging for answers, very well." It was Penelope's turn to blush, and he gave her a tiny smirk. "Anyway, Jessica has been lonely when I'm out on a case, and I heard from Blake and JJ that you're meeting for yoga on Saturday evenings. Do you think that there's room for one more in your group? And would there be a place for Jack to play when I'm on a case?"
Penelope began to smile widely as she nodded. "I think that that could be arranged, yes. We've only met twice, so she wouldn't be that far behind. And I could send her the links to what Moira has had us work on at home these last two weeks. But what happened to Beth? I thought that you two were still going strong."
Hotch relaxed a little, which told Penelope that she was going to get all the good gossip, even if she would have to keep it to herself. "We tried to make things work after the incident in New York, but she just couldn't handle when the unsub got so close to me. I know, I was never in any danger, but Beth thought the worst. And while we'll remain friends, we both decided that a relationship between the two of us was probably leading nowhere."
"And Jessica?" she asked before she could stop her words, and he arched an eyebrow at her. "What? I'm curious!"
"We're slowly exploring where things might lead. Especially since Roy isn't doing the best, which adds a lot of weight to her shoulders. She needs a way to relax, and if she's going to be a larger part of my life, well, I want her to get to know everyone a little better."
She nodded and let out a happy sigh. "You know, if you want Jessica to be a part of our little group, I'm going to need contact information for her. Phone number, email, that sort of thing."
"Can't you just look it up?"
Penelope shook her head. "Nope! You don't want me to dig, so I'm not going to dig!"
He let out a long suffering sigh as he shook his head, pulling out his phone. "At least I get to practice how to be the parent of a teenager before Jack reaches that age," he muttered as he tapped on his screen. "Here, copy this down."
She took the phone from his hand and set it on her desk as she picked up a pen and scrawled down the pertinent information before handing the phone back to Hotch. "All right, I will reach out to Jess and see if she'd like to join us. Just let me know when you need me to focus on the case, Hotch."
He nodded absently as he stood up and left her office. As she watched him leave, a wicked little thought flitted through her mind that she would now have a greater chance of having a baby to love on in the team. Still, she knew that she would have to keep everything under wraps until given the go ahead to make things more public, since she didn't want to get on Hotch's bad side.
As soon as the door was closed, she plucked her personal cellphone out of her pocket and entered Jessica's information into her contact list, then pressed her number before bringing the device to her ear and listening to it ring. "Hello?"
"Jess! It's Penelope Garcia. Hotch wanted me to call and touch base with you."
There was a brief pause, as if Jessica hadn't known what was going on, and Penelope frowned a little as she waited for the woman to say something. "He did? What for?"
"He mentioned something about you feeling a little lonely, that things with Roy have been difficult lately, and that you needed an outlet."
Jessica let out a long, sad, breath. "I can't believe he noticed that."
"He's good at noticing everything. I don't think he would have gotten to be our boss if he didn't. Anyway, I've recently run into trouble getting pregnant, and my doctor suggested that I take up yoga in an effort to relax and get rid of stress. Well, I didn't want to go it alone, so I ended up inviting the girls to join me. It's a private class, so you don't have to worry about people you don't know staring at you. And there's a playroom for Jack, for when Hotch is out in the field."
"Whoa, slow down, Penelope. You're part of a yoga class?"
"Yes. With Erin, Blake, and JJ. We'd love to have you join us, if you'd like, so that you're not quite so lonely. And you wouldn't have to worry about childcare when Hotch isn't home, because there's a space safe for kids."
There was another long pause, and she braced herself for getting a no, which would be all right, even if her brain was already picturing a little girl that looked like Jack running around while she spoiled her. "And when does this class meet?"
"Saturday evenings at seven. That way everyone has one weekend day to themselves, when the team is home. Does that sound like something you'd like to do?"
"Can I come to a class or two before I make my final decision?"
"Of course! I'll send over the homework that Moira has given us so far to work on. I've actually found that I love doing the stretches she suggests, as it has already started to make me a little more limber in the bedroom."
Jessica chuckled. "Well, I suppose that is a good secondary outcome. All right, send over the information, and I'll give it a looksee. I will probably see you come Friday?"
"Excellent! It will be nice to have more of us in the room when the team is out on a case, too. It feels sort of empty when it's just Erin and me. Bye!"
"Bye, Penlope."
After they'd hung up, Penelope logged into her personal email and forwarded the last two emails to Jessica. Once that was done, she looked through her work emails, seeing that Hotch had sent her the details for their next case. It looked like it was going to be a relatively tame, compared to the last few they'd overseen, which meant that she could easily give the briefing. Which was a good thing, since she couldn't stop imagining the future that could very well soon be upon them, one where she had one, maybe two, little ones to dote upon as she waited for her miracle to occur.
