Day 201, 2:47 PM
Kuroiro steps on the gas and jerks the wheel to the left, narrowly avoiding colliding with the beast but the beast took a swipe at them, missing by only a few inches. Kaminari rides his dirtbike in the opposite direction, aiming for the forest and concealing himself in the trees, hoping and praying that the beast doesn't spot him.
The beast stands at ten feet, having a few strands of gray hair on its scalp, sunken skin around his eyeholes, and lips missing to brandish its jagged bloody, and yellow teeth. The beast roars and sprints for the car as Kurorio turns the wheels a few times before straightening his route. Kuroiro looks over his shoulder and sees the beast about to zero in on the survivors, with Komori, Jirou, and Mineta screaming.
"Oh my god," Kurorio repeats. "When I said I wanted to be the beast to Komori's beauty, I didn't mean this!" he blurts before he can comprehend his words.
Despite the beast chasing them and the fear overriding her senses, Komori still comprehends Kuroiro's words and blushes hard.
"Taste my balls, bitch!" Mineta yells hysterically as he peels his balls off his head and throws them at the beast.
The beast steps on a ball and halts suddenly. The beast looks down at its feet and sees the ball before growling. Taking a huge breath of air, the beast rips its foot off of the purple ball, leaving only a very small patch of dead flesh behind, and continues its pursuit of the survivors.
"No," Mineta yells, "my balls should've held him in place for like thirty minutes!" Mineta removes more balls from his head. "That's not fair!"
Jirou grabs the seat in front of her and stands up. Turning toward the beast, she plants her feet on the very back of the jeep, standing up very slightly, and plugs her jacks into her boot speakers.
"Keep it steady, Kuroiro!"
"I've crashed a dirt bike, a van, and a bus so no promises!" Kuroiro looks in the rearview mirror. "Whatever the fuck you're going to do, Jirou, just fucking do it!"
Jirou steadies herself, holding onto the overhead handles above the driver and passenger seats, and activates her quirk. "Soundwaves!"
She launches soundwaves at the beast. The beast blinks rapidly at the force hitting him like a school bus going ninety-five miles per hour. The beast growls and shrugs off the soundwaves, balling its fists and focusing on sprinting toward the jeep.
Jirou cancels her attacks before gritting her teeth. "Damn it, sound waves aren't slowing this guy down!"
"Did you forget what happened last night when you tried to use soundwaves on a beast?!" Komori asks. "And heartbeat distortion?!"
"Quiet," Jirou orders. She backs away, heart pounding hard in her chest and eyes widening. The beast was picking up speed, even as the jeep was going as fast as it could. "Kuroiro, step on it! Faster, faster!"
Mineta cries and hides behind his seat. "That's what she said, Jirou!"
"Mineta!"
"I'm sorry!" Mineta peels more balls off and continues to throw them at the beast, only for the monster to maneuver out of the way and avoid them completely. "I couldn't help it!"
Jirou sighs heavily, sweat drenching her forehead. "Komori, use your mushrooms!"
Komori looks back and pushes Jirou out of the way slightly so she can get a good look at the beast. Komori gasps at the beast's ugly, monstrous, horrific face that seems to stare at her with its evil, bloodthirsty bloodshot eyes, and she nearly loses her composure until Jirou pats her on the head.
"Komori!" Jirou yells.
Komori pants hard and blinks twice, her quirk activating.
Red mushrooms with yellow polka dots sprout on the beast's face, growing over his eyes, nose, and mouth, blinding him. The beast shakes its head and slaps his face, knocking a few mushrooms off. The mushrooms around his eyes disconnected, allowing him to maintain visual sight of his living flesh target and maintain a consistent speed.
"Kuroiro, step on the pedal!" Jirou yells.
Kuroiro smashes his foot against the pedal, making the car go slightly faster while at the same time, motivating the beast to sprint faster. This time, unlike the previous attempts, the beast was picking up speed and running like an Olympic-level track runner with ferocious intent.
"Jirou!" Kaminari's voice comes through.
Jirou looks to her left and sees Kaminari following them from the trees, riding parallel to their jeep about fifteen feet away. The beast doesn't notice Kaminari, paying sole attention to the survivors in the jeep.
"Guys! Follow me!" Kaminari orders. "There's a cliff! Let's lead this big guy to it! Follow me! Blind him when I tell you to!"
Jirou looks behind her and taps Kuroiro on the head. "Drive into the forest."
"What?!" Kuroiro looks at her in the rearview mirror. "Why?"
"Kaminari has a plan!"
Kuroiro narrows his eyes. "What, he does?!"
"Turn!"
Kurorio jerks the wheel to the right and drives into the woods, driving past an opening in the trees. In all the excitement and adrenaline rush, Jirou forgets to take her seat and put her seatbelt on when Kuroiro makes the sharp turn. Jirou nearly flies out of the jeep but Mineta manages to rip one last ball from his scalp and smacks it down on the edge of the car to his left. Jirou's stomach hits the edge of the car and almost falls out but Mineta's ball catches her and keeps her inside.
"Whoah," Jirou exclaims, "oh my god!"
"Hang on," Komori shouts and reaches, grabbing the back of her pants and holding on. "Don't fall out!"
"Follow Kaminari!" Jirou yells aloud.
Kuroiro nods and shifts gears slightly before driving around a log, following Kaminari on his dirt bike with the beast tailing them.
"What's the plan?" Kuroiro mutters under his breath. "What's the fucking plan?!"
"Ask Kaminari; he's the one who came up with this plan?" Kuroiro sighs. "Kaminari!"
Kaminari looks over his shoulder at them. "Just follow me." Kaminari keeps his hands on the throttle, making sure the dirt bike makes a beeline to his destination.
Kaminari looks ahead, narrowing his eyes behind his blue glasses and breathing hard through his mask.
Come on, come on, where's the cliff?
Kaminari drifts to the left, avoiding a tree with the jeep performing a similar move, with the beast simply running through the tree and cutting it down to pieces.
"Damn," Kuroiro yelps, "a jeep is not supposed to be in a forest!"
"Blind the beast and swerve to the left!" Kaminari finally orders.
"I got it." Komori sits up and activates her quirk on the beast. Once again, mushrooms got in the beast's eyes, blinding him and forcing him to smack his face to pat the mushrooms away.
Only this time, Mineta throws two balls at the beast's face, the purple spheres sticking to his eyes with the mushrooms caught between the spheres. The beast roars and claws at its face, trying to get the balls off but its hands get stuck to the purple spheres.
"Swerve to the left!" Kaminari barks before pulling on the brake and drifting to the left.
Kuroiro shifts gear and jerks the wheel to the left, clipping a tree, making the vehicle jump, and making it out of the beast's path.
The beast maintains its accelerated speed, even as it tries to remove the mushroom and purple balls from its face, but it is all in vain as the beast flies off a cliff.
The beast howls as it plunges to the bottom of the abyss, hitting the rocky ground hard below and leaving an impact crater behind. The beast roars and pushes itself up until it sits on its hands and knees. Sniffing the air around him, the beast growls once more and clouds out another roar at a higher volume, making the survivors on the cliff flinch.
"Holy shit," Kaminari gasps after pulling to a stop on his bike near the cliff. Looking down, he spots the zombie giant at the bottom and sees it getting to its feet but it remains blind from Komori and Minea's quirk. "It worked."
He rides his bike forward until he reunites with the jeep near a fallen tree. He stops near the passenger's side of the jeep and grabs onto Jirou's shoulder. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine." Jirou sighs heavily and tries removing herself from the edge but the purple sphere keeps her in place. "Just a little uncomfortable."
"I'll drive real smooth-like," Kuroiro promises as he puts the jeep in reverse before shifting gears. "Hey, on the flip side, I didn't crash."
"You're getting better," Komori sighs, panting heavily and wiping the sweat off her forehead. "Also, I'm pretty sure the airbags aren't working so we got real lucky."
Mineta nods, leaning as far back into his seat as possible, Jirou's lap touching his lap. What a lucky accident.
Kaminari follows after them, matching their speed and making sure they get out of the forest. Back on the road, Kaminari rides beside the jeep, holding a hand out to make sure Jirou doesn't fall out, even though half of her body is still hanging inside the jeep.
"Hey, Kaminari, smart thinking," Jirou praises, "I gotta say, I wasn't expecting much from you but good job."
Kuroiro looks at Kaminair in the sideview mirror. "How'd you know about that cliff?"
Kaminari laughs. "It's how I escaped the hunter beast. Or... the Katsuya beast. Remember, when me, Eizou, and Hisao were running for our lives, we found these bikers and we used their dirt bikes to escape? Katsuya the hunter beast chased me and the others, killed everyone, and was about to kill me but I got lucky. I didn't see it at first but there was a cliff that I was about to ride off. I swerved out of the way at the very last second and the Katsuya beast went flying off the cliff. That cliff was the very same cliff; we got real lucky we remembered the route." He pauses in his speech, his eyes widening. "And the Katsuya beast survived and managed to climb out... which means that one beast we tricked into falling off might be climbing up right now so LET'S GO! LET'S GET OUT OF HERE!"
Kuroiro speeds up, not looking back, and drives as fast as he can but makes sure to not go too fast so Kaminari can keep up with them.
"Was that the hunter beast?" Mineta finally asks.
Kamianri shakes his head. "No, I unleashed two million volts on the hunter beast and fired him to a crispy black corpse. He's still alive but no, that beast wasn't the hunter beast."
Mineta suddenly finds the will to laugh. "Aren't you nervous that you'll meet the Katsuya beast again? He already tried to kill you three times."
"Hey, if he didn't kill me the third time, he won't kill me a fourth time."
"One can hope," Jirou manages to snark. "Can we just go home, please?"
"Don't worry, we're almost there," Kuroiro assures.
Mineta looks back. "What if that beast is still following us?"
"Eh, don't worry," Jirou answers, "Beasts are persistent but not that persistent. Besides, we should be out of its range."
"The hunter beast," Kaminari says, "he was quite persistent. Remember, Jirou? During the outbreak in the city, the hunter beast saw me and started chasing me. Then at UA, he was about to attack me until that big guy rammed him."
Mineta shakes his head. "Remind me to not be around you the next time we see the hunter beast."
"If you see a big ass zombie with charred skin, run in the opposite direction of me." Kaminari blinks before tilting his head down. He looks ahead to avoid accidentally crashing before looking over at Jirou. "That guy back there, the guy being chased by the beast..."
"What about him?" Jirou asks.
"We should've helped him."
"What could we have done?" Kuroiro asks. "The beast killed that guy before we could even get close to him; he was going to die either way."
"But..." Kaminari hesitates, "we still could've-"
"No," Kuroiro shuts down, "we could not have saved him. We accelerated, we would've been in arm's reach of that beast. If I had stopped suddenly, the beast would've seen us and I probably wouldn't have picked up enough speed to get away."
"We're no good to everyone dead," Mineta adds, "we have to get the food back to our classmates."
"That survivor's blood is not on your hands," Jirou immediately comforts. She closes her eyes and touches her forehead. "But I can't get that guy's death out of my head. Oh god, the way the beast just tore him apart..."
She promptly vomits, still dangling over the edge of the jeep. Kaminari internally sighed as he was able to move out of the way before the vomit hit him.
3:15 PM
"You're back!" Bakugou yells as the Kamisquad gets through the gates. "What the hell took you guys so long?!"
Kaminari sighs after parking his bike. "We got ambushed."
"Zombies?"
Kaminari pulls his mask down. "Survivors. Hostile survivors."
Deku appears beside Bakugou. "The League of Villains?"
"The League of Villains aren't the only hostile survivors out there," Kuroiro answers.
Jirou rips the ball off of her shirt and tosses it away after it finally loses its potency.
"What happened?" Deku asks.
"They put up a fight but we were able to handle ourselves," Jirou answers. "And we got some food."
Kaminari pulls off his backpack and zips it open. He reveals the cans of pasta inside. "Looks like we're all going Italian tonight."
Deku grabs the cans. "This is good. Good job."
"We are never ever going back to Isamu Academy."
"We'll add that to the list," Deku answers.
Kaminari takes the backpack back. "Can we go back inside, now?"
"Sure, by all means. Thank you."
Downstairs
"This is good," Mina says, using her hand to scoop up pieces of ravioli. Kirishima grabs her napkin and helps her clean her hands. "Thanks, Eijirou."
"Hey, you call me by my first name, nice."
"What, we're friends, aren't we? Why shouldn't I call you by your first name."
Kirishima smiles before handing her a plastic fork. "Yes, I guess so." He looks up. "Hey, Katsuki, does that mean I can call you Kacchan?"
"DON'T CALL ME THAT, SHITTY HAIR!"
"I'll take that as a 'yes' then."
Mogami and Shimamura sit together, heating up a can of spaghetti and meatballs over a homemade stove.
Mogami laughs. "Remember when we used to go camping man?"
Shimamura sighs. "Yeah, those were the good old days."
"Hey guys," Deku calls out, "the Kamisquad said they encountered hostile survivors."
~WHAT~
Deku shields himself, not expecting the full force of everyone yelling at him at once. "Man, calm down, it's okay."
"They were attacked?" Sero asks. "What the hell? By who, the League?"
"They said it wasn't the League," Bakugou answers.
"But why would someone attack them?" Uraraka asks. "The league is one thing but someone else..."
Kaminari sits on the couch next to Mineta and Kuroiro. They enjoy themselves the sweet, savory taste of frosting from the container with Jirou and Komori looking over, waiting for their turn.
"What happened?" Kendo asks. "Who was it?"
Kaminari looks ahead. "I don't want to talk about it."
"Who was it?" Monoma demands. "Who the hell attacked our Kuroiro and Komori?"
"Just a couple of bastards," Kuroiro answers, "bastards who probably used to go to that school. But that's irrelevant now."
"What did they do?" Awase butts in. "What the hell did they do?"
Kaminari pauses. "They..."
Jirou continues for him. "They attacked us. They tried to kill us."
"And what did you do to them?" Bakugou asks loudly. "Why did they attack you?"
Kaminari looks down, wincing. "Well... I kinda... shot... two of them."
~SILENCE~
"What?" Tsu croaks. "You..."
"Y-you shot them?" Uraraka stutters.
"Did you kill them?" the dark and edgy Tokoyami asks.
Kaminari stays silent, which answers the big question.
"You killed someone..." Kamkairi gulps. "Nice."
"How could you?" Hagakure yells. "How could you kill someone?"
Deku flinches but Kaminari soaks up the attention.
"I only had a second to decide," Kaminari defends himself, "they put their hands in their pocket. We told them to take their hands out of their pockets and they refused so..."
"Were they threatening you?" Shiozaki asks.
"They were shady people," Kuroiro answers, "couldn't take any chances."
"What was in their pockets?" Kendo asks. "Did they have a gun?"
"No, just a couple of tire bolts."
Jirou quickly jumps in and says, "We didn't know what that guy's quirk was so we couldn't take any chances."
"Good for you, man," Manga suddenly says. "Sometimes, some people in this world deserve to get a bullet right between the eyes."
"I didn't want to do it," Kaminari snaps before standing up, still holding the frosting container in his hands. "I didn't have a choice." He takes out his revolver and tosses it to Hatsume. "There were four of them who attacked us and tried to kill us."
Hatsume retrieves the revolver. "Did you kill them?"
"We left them tied up on the roof," Kuroiro admits. He stands up. "We couldn't go through with killing them so we left them tied up on the roof fo the school. I hope you guys feel better knowing we left some potential murderers alive." Kuroiro turns his head. "We had a vote and we voted to spare the four bastards but I'm still not sure we made the right call."
"You did the right thing by sparing them," Shiozaki reassures, "self-defense is one thing but murder is another."
"Murder is going to be common in this world, Shiozaki," Kurorio finally snaps. "We are in the end of the world; murderers are common and not even we are fucking immune. It's easy to judge while you guys sit here and do whatever while we're out there, putting our lives at risk just so you guys have food on the table. Enjoy your fucking cans of pasta. I don't know how you're going to divide them among thirty-seven people... or thirty-two, minus the five of us, but have fun." Kuroiro walks away.
Kaminari turns to follow Kuroiro before pausing, his back to the students. "By the way, you may hate me for shooting these two kids but just know that I'm the one who has to live with what I've done. Your consciences are clean."
"Not mine," Manga claims, "I killed that gas villain at UA, remember?"
"And I'm kinda responsible for that muscular guy's death too," Shinsou admits. "Maybe I should've gone with you, Kaminari, my quirk could come in handy against hostile survivors."
Jirou stands up. "Yeah, about that... uh.. there's something we should talk about. It's about quirk usage."
"You guys can talk, I'm going up to my room." Kaminari walks forward, meeting up with Kuroiro, who pats him on the shoulder. Mineta gets off the couch and follows.
"Guys," Jirou calls out, "leave Kaminari alone, he did what he had to do. I know what you're all thinking: heroes don't kill but this isn't a superhuman world anymore; it's a goddamn zombie apocalypse. The only rule is to survive and Kaminari did what we had to."
"But what if they had no ill intent?" Shoji asks.
Shishida grabs Shoji's shoulder. "As much as I don't want to think about it, there are some instances where even a hero is forced to kill."
"I can't stomach this thought," Mashiro groans, "I can't stomach the thought of having to kill someone."
"But it's going to happen," Kaibara says, "sooner or later, we're going to kill a human, one way or another."
"They probably deserved it," Kendo says, standing up and addressing the rest of the students. "I think they deserved to die. The man who killed Tetsutetsu sure deserved to die."
"You idiots," Bakugou snaps, "have you guys forgotten that we're UA students? We all applied to the best hero school in the country because we wanted to be pros."
Mogami raises his hand. "Uh, not me; the only reason I applied was because UA had some of the best engineering courses in the country." He nods to Shimurma. "Same for my friend here."
Kimura and Hatsume also raise their hands.
"Hey, I'm glad the gun came in good use," Hatsume admits.
"We're supposed to be better than this!" Bakugou yells once more. "If we have to resort to killing someone, then we're not heroes." Bakugou clenches his fists. "If we're put into a position where we have to kill someone, then simply find another solution; how difficult could that have been?"
Jirou glares at him. "If you think you could do a better job, then why don't you get held up by a couple of hostile survivors."
"I will and watch me not resort to killing them."
Jirou seethes before leaving. "Not everyone is like you, ASSHOLE! Kaminari doesn't have the same versatile power as yours! He did what he fucking had to!"
"Stop," Deku yells, "everyone, please, stop fighting! Kaminari did what he had to," he stutters, "taking a life isn't easy and... I'm sure Kaminari has been through enough."
"Shut up, damn nerd."
"I can't do this." Jirou begins walking away. "I can't fucking do this."
Komori follows her. "Wait for me."
"Wait, Jirou," Deku calls out, "you said something about quirk usage? What does that mean?"
Jirou flips the whole class off, Komori following her example.
Kendo clenches her fists after seeing Jirou and Komori vanish before looking at Bakugou. "Real sensitive, pomeranian."
"Get over it, big hands."
"Not cool, man," Kirishima shakes his head, "serious, not cool."
Kamianri's Room
"Are you okay, man?" Mineta asks. He sits on the bed beside his electric friend and pats him on the back. "You know Bakugou, he's not exactly one for feelings."
Kaminari sighs heavily and rests his forearms on his knees. "I know that there are some people who say I did the right thing and wrong thing but I keep asking myself that question in my head. I just..."
"Don't worry about it," Kurorio assures him, putting both hands on the electric boy's shoulder. "If everyone else turns on you, I got your back."
"So do I," Mineta nods. "I won't betray you, even if it's for a pair of nice titties."
Kaminari chuckles. "Thanks." He sighs heavily once more before reaching for his backpack. He reaches inside and pulls something out.
"Is that wine?" Kuroiro gasps.
"It is." Kaminari removes the cap. "I thought we could use it for medicine, you know, like rubbing alcohol." He pauses before lifting the top to his mouth and taking a sip. He makes a sour face. "God, that is so disgusting." He takes another sip. "Gross," he coughs.
Kuroiro takes the wine bottle and takes a sip. He winces and pulls his lips against his teeth. "Damn, how can adults stomach this shit."
"Let me, let me." Mineta reaches out and takes a sip for himself. "Whoah," he coughs, "damn. This is red wine?" He takes another sip and cringes. "If this is what the girls drink..."
The door opens. "Hey, Kaminari, I just wanna say-" Jirou freezes with the door half open, eyes wide. "What's going on?"
"It's the wine from the bastards," Mineta answers, "Kaminari stole it for us."
"I thought it would make good rubbing alcohol," Kaminari reasons. "And... it tastes horrible."
Jirou steps in, pulling Komori behind her and locking the door.
"What are you doing?" Jirou steps forward and snatches the bottle of wine. "How old are you?"
"We're all sixteen," Kaminari answers.
"Right, sixteen, none of us are of legal age to drink."
Kuroiro smiles. "Legal? When was the last time something was legal?" Kuroiro takes the wine bottle. "We are in the end of the world so we might as well just live our life." He takes a sip, making another sour face before holding the bottle out. "Have a sip."
Komori leans forward and sniffs the glass. "Gross. I think I'll pass."
"Please?" Kuroiro practically begs. "The water's warm, literally."
Komori groans before taking a careful sip. She turns away and spits at the carpet. "Gross. Disgusting."
Jirou looks over at Kaminari, sitting on the bed, a somber look on his face. Jirou absentmindedly shoves Mineta aside and sits next to the electric boy.
"How are you feeling?"
"Fine, I guess," Kaminari admits. "My mind is still trying to... comprehend all that's happened."
"It's not going to get easier, right?"
Kaminari shakes his head. "If The Walking Dead is anything to go by... things are going to get much worse."
We survived our trip back to Isamu Academy but we were left with more mental scars than we'd like to imagine. I killed two, was almost killed by four others, saw a man die, and was chased by a beast all in one day. We were NEVER going to return to Isamu Academy again and those bastards from Isamu... we were cautious about them but we NEVER saw them again. Even to this day, I don't know if they're dead or alive or zombies or something else. Either way, I don't care, I'm just glad to be home and glad to be sitting in bed with Jirou stroking my side, eating cake frosting, and drinking with my friends.
