A/N: Many apologies for the hiatus. I am back and can hopefully get a good chunk of chapters out for you all. Enjoy and please review! (It helps with motivation)
Trig is in Italics
The first day hiding in the cave was a long one. Everyone took turns standing guard and making sure that they hadn't been followed or that no patrols were out looking for them. Small groups were sent out to gather any kind of food or water for them. Spacekru, but mostly Echo, had been working non-stop on planning and making sure that if something were to happen while they waited, they were prepared and ready.
Kane had stayed toward the opposite side of the cave as he tended to Diyoza who was having some pains from their encounter with McCreary and trying to get Abby. No one paid them much mind and only interacted with them when it came time to dividing rations. Although they escaped together, Diyoza was more a prisoner than an ally.
Griffin was the hardest to keep track of. A child in an impending fight, Echo wanted nothing more than to just tuck him away somewhere safe and come back for him when it was all over. But who knew how long that would take. And she worried that if she took her eyes off of him for even a minute, he would vanish. If only Bellamy and the rest were here..
But she could not be more thankful for the family she had with her now. Raven was always by her side when it came to the planning and deciding moves. While Emori and Murphy helped look after Griffin. In fact Murphy took most of that responsibility and surprised Echo with how much he kept the boy by his side. Entertaining him at times or keeping him company when he got bored. Echo would never be able to repay him for that.
They were well into the third day when they noticed a change in their patterns. Echo and two others had spent the entire morning lurking as close to the camp as they could, listening and trying to see what they knew and how much. But all they could see was out in the field where they were moving positions and preparing certain areas. Hardly anyone patrols had gone out and the same could be said for those watching the camp. Knowing it couldn't be good they hurried back to the cave where Raven was currently working on the radio, using wire they had stolen the previous day to boost the signal so they could make contact with Bellamy, Harper and Monty.
The walls were now mostly covered with drawings by Griffin, using the burnt up remains of the wood they burned at night to keep somewhat warm. Along with many drawings of tic-tac-toe. A game Murphy had taught him and were now on round 15. This time around he was feeling guilty and let the kid start winning a few.
Raven was finishing up when Shaw chuckled at her. When she questioned him he simply asked, "Is there anything you can't fix?"
She had a hint of a smile at the compliment and simply shrugged. "Besides my leg? Nope."
"I mean it did take her six years to get us back down to the ground." Murphy chimed in with a smirk as he waited for Griffin to make his next move on the wall.
"Yet here we are." Raven said almost triumphantly back at him before glancing to Shaw. "He hates when I'm that good."
Murphy then made a comment comparing her ego to the size of the cave. Raven only smiling as it proved her point.
Emori and Echo had walked back in, letting Raven know that the antenna she made was in position and ready to go. Raven continued wrapping one of the wires, "Its not connected yet."
"So connect it." Echo told her, sounding rushed.
"Did you get spotted?" Murphy asked as he let Griffin win another round but motioned for him to start another drawing so they could focus on the matter at hand.
Echo shook her head, "Worse, they aren't looking for us anymore."
"What do you mean?" Diyoza asked in a weary voice as she began to try and sit up from the position she had been laying in since they first arrived to the cave. Kane helping her sit up.
"Tell me. What does it mean when we see your people moving weapons and supplies to the northern perimeter?" Echo asked with a raised brow. Hoping that if she were to have any use still it would be to know what they could be planning for.
Diyoza placed a hand on her belly, not missing a beat in responding "If McCreary is moving his troops North. Then Wonkru is on the march again."
"So much for blinding the eye." Murphy muttered as they took a second to think.
"You hacked my eye in the sky..I'm impressed." Diyoza told them.
"Don't be." Echo was quick to respond. "If McCreary knows they're coming, then we failed. Without the element of surprise, it'll be a massacre."
Raven was quick to finish up the radio. "We have to tell them to go back."
Once all the wires were rightfully connected she clicked it on then handed it to Echo.
"Bellamy, come in. Bellamy? Bellamy come in if you can hear me." She said and waited a minute, hoping he would hear her.
'Echo..' She heard him say. Relief flooded her when his voice came through. 'Why are we speaking Trig? What's wrong?'
Griffin perked up when hearing his dad's voice and smiled running over. He was about to speak up, wanting to talk with him too but Emori noticed and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder quietly telling him that this was something important his parents needed to speak about. He nodded with a frown and accepted the invite she gave for him to sit next to her.
"They know your coming." Echo told him. "You've lost the element of surprise."
There was a second of silence before he came in again. 'Echo listen to me..'
But they could hear Harper in the distance cut him off, hearing her explain that Clarke was with them and no doubt could hear what they were saying.
"Clarke's on their side? What the hell does that mean?" Murphy asked.
Echo could only shake her head, surprised but at the same time not that she would betray them. It wasn't the first time Wanheda had betrayed those close to her. "We have to make this fast."
"Bellamy you have to go back. We have their pilot, so your safe for now." Echo explained hoping he understood. "You can't come here."
'Not possible.' He told her. 'It's a long story, but we can't go back..and we can't stop either. We're five days out, you have that long to find us a safe way in. After that..we run out of rations.'
Echo wished they could talk more. But if Clarke truly was with the enemy, then they were out of time. "We're on it. Be safe." She finished knowing if she said anything else it would be harder to say goodbye.
Everyone tried wrapping their heads around the new information. Echo already forming a new plan in her head as she stood up.
"Lindo, I need you to take your people and scout South. Stay out of sight and don't engage. We need as much details as we can about body counts and weapons." She told him, waiting for him to confirm before moving on to the next task.
"Spacekru, you're with me."
Murphy gave a short "yea" as they all started to move. Echo sat down next to Griffin. The poor boy had enough confusion and concern, and it pained her to have him go through it so young. Just like she had when she was not much older than him.
"Momma I don't want you to go again. Take me with you." His small eyes pleading.
She put a gentle hand under his chin, "I won't be long. I'll be back before you know it. And you heard it yourself, your dad is going to be here soon. We'll all be together again. I promise." She closed her eyes as she softly touched her forehead to his.
"I love you." She whispered before pulling away to place a kiss to the top of his head then stood to look at Kane. her arm extended out.
"Gun." Was all she said, knowing he'd had it from the beginning.
Kane was reluctant at first but gave in and pulled it out of his bag and handed it over. "I'm going with you."
"Like hell you are." She told him giving a look that said not to test her. "Trust has to be earned. Isn't that right Colonel?"
Kane glanced down at Diyoza to see her nodding in agreement. Kane wanted to protest but knew that she was right. But what shocked him was Echo taking a step closer, her voice low. "And I am giving you that chance by asking you to watch over my son. I mean it Kane."
He held her serious gaze and gave a firm nod before glancing over to the boy. "I promise. He'll be ok."
Satisfied with his answer she tucked the gun into her backside and started out, the rest following behind her. Raven had stopped as she argued with Shaw about staying as well, he protested but Raven was able to convince him that it was best for him to stay hidden.
They stayed out of sight among the foliage the best they could, but once they reached the snowy area they stayed low to the ground. Coming up to the spot they saw earlier they ducked behind some rocks and watched.
"They're building pillboxes. Both sides of the ravine." Echo said after looking through a binocular to see closer.
"We don't need to be a spy to know this isn't the best way in. Too high up and too cold. They'll be seen coming for miles" Raven said.
They all agreed and started to move but Murphy stopped them as he took his own look with the binocular.
"They have guns. Look." He stated as he handed it back to Echo to look for herself. "The box next to it is ammunition. Can't shoot at us with what they don't have." he offered, knowing this way this side would be less defensive, and he would finally have a gun to use.
He looked to Echo for final approval, knowing he was right she gave a reluctant nod. She ordered them to follow behind her, they needed to be quiet and smart on their approach.
As they got closer it seemed that the few prisoners building the box had disappeared. But who knew how long it would be before they returned. They needed to be quick. Murphy jogged over to the weapons and picked up one of the guns and checked it out. Satisfied he then started moving over to one of the next boxes, but was stopped by one of the prisoners popping out and pointing his gun right at Murphy's head.
Echo was quick to point hers right back, ordering the man to drop his gun. The man simply pointed, signaling Murphy to drop the gun he had first. Murphy did as told, then kept his hands up to show he wasn't a threat.
"You shoot me, she shoots you." Murphy told the guy, "Why don't we forget this ever happened."
That's when three more guys came out of cover, weapons raised at all of them.
"I have a better idea." The man said glancing at Echo. "She drops her weapon, or we turn you all into pink mist."
Echo knew that a continued standoff was useless. Exhaling in annoyance she lifted her finger off of the trigger and tossed her gun to the ground, raising her hands alongside Emori and Raven.
The man told the others to radio for McCreary and let him know they had the people who took Shaw.
As if by magic Shaw then appeared out of nowhere. "Now that, would be a big win."
"Shaw what are you doing?" Raven asked, feeling betrayed that he didn't listen to her and had followed them.
Shaw ignored her though as he carefully stepped toward the prisoners, "I'll tell you what, you let them go and take me.
One of the men grinned as he lowered his gun and walked toward Shaw. "I'll tie him up, kill the others."
As the man came over and grabbed at Shaw's hand, Shaw took his free arm and threw a punch at him, knocking him to the ground. Chaos then ensued as the rest took cover while weapons were once again raised. Shaw kicked a cannon looking weapon out of the hands of another as he fought the two.
Echo slowly reached for the knife stashed in her belt and with a flick of her wrist sent it flying toward the last guy toward the back who kept Murphy at gun point, the knife lodging itself into his chest.
Shaw was able to incapacitate the first guy while grabbing at his gun and swung it around to smack the second guy in the face knocking him out. Emori and Raven were quick to his side in case the two on the ground tried to get up.
"Your welcome." Shaw said looking at a pissed off Raven who only marched past him to help Murphy with the stash of guns.
Emori picked up the cannon gun and held it up for Murphy. "Hey John, still want a gun?"
"Hell yea." Murphy said like an excited child on Christmas and took it from her.
The two looked it over as Echo made her way past, telling Shaw he could stay in an impressed tone, before taking inventory herself on what they had just acquired.
Grabbing what they could they began the trek back to the cave where they would wait for Lindo to return with his intel. Griffin greeted them all and watched intrigued with what they brought back. They were all very strict with him that he was only to watch. Not touch. So he quietly sat by Raven and Shaw and watched them take inventory.
Once Lindo and the others had returned, he told Echo everything they saw and were able to find out about stations and movements. Taking that information they made a map of the Valley and started marking what they knew.
"They're digging in at all three Northern entry points. Here, here and here." She marked each one with an X. "Each position has two pillboxes, on either side of the entry point."
"Son of a.." Diyoza cut in making all heads turn to her. "He's using my playbook. Two gunner positions at each entry point. My battle plan called for the use of Eligius blast shelters. I dropped my notebook at the gas station when going for Abby. McCreary must have found it."
"How detailed?" Echo asked trying to estimate how they could provide any kind of counter to the formations.
Diyoza listed everything she had thought of when creating it. From weapon distributions to countermoves.
"So, is there a safe way to get in or not?" Murphy asked, one of the few times he was actually serious.
Diyoza thought a moment before something came to her and she looked at them all with a mischievous smirk.
