The group headed towards a fenced off area of the island. In front of them was a large building and a guard station nearby. Gail turned to Regina and Rick.
"Okay, this is the first checkpoint. Playtime is officially over, kiddies." He spoke before noticing how eerily quiet it was. "Something's wrong. The lights in the guard house are out."
"Um, maybe this has been a wild night of partying for the guards, you know, a little song, a little dance?" Rick joked.
"Stay here, junior. Leave the guards to me." Gail told him and walked off, heading to the guards' station. Rick looked at Regina.
"Did you hear what he just called me?"
"Forget about it. Just let Gail handle this." She told him and the two both followed Gail and started to patrol the area. There was nobody around. Regina wondered about this herself. Where was everyone?
"All right, it's clear." Rick spoke, snapping Regina out of her thoughts. "Let's do this. I'll infiltrate the facility and occupy the control room on the first floor. I should have access to all the security systems from there. I'll contact you as soon as I've cleared the room." Regina nodded and Rick headed towards the building and opened the door and walked inside. Regina walked around the guards' station and saw Gail inspecting something on the ground. As she walked closer, Regina saw that the fence looked like it had been ripped through with tremendous force and there was also some blood trail and bullet shells on the ground.
"Let me guess, this is some of your handy work, right?" Regina asked Gail.
"The brass is still warm. These guards were shooting at something very recently." Gail told her.
"So, who were they fighting?" Regina asked.
"This wasn't much of a fight. I don't think these guards hit anything before getting sliced and diced. Whatever they were shooting at, came in from there. Ripped right through the steel fence."
"Well, the hole is nice and clean, but I still say you could have done this." Regina joked. Gail shook his head and stood up and went over to examine the blood on the ground.
"Very funny. We still need to figure out what happened here. Continue to sweep the area."
Regina left Gail to do his work and headed inside the storage building and walked inside. She looked around through the boxes on the shelves and lifted one up and saw a key. It was for the generator room. Maybe they can bring the power back online. Regina took it, stashing into her pocket and walked back outside. She started to head back until her pager on her wrist beeped. Regina turned it on.
"Rick here, I'm in. The place is deserted though. I have a very bad feeling about this."
"How's the progress going with that security system?" she asked.
"I don't know what's going on here, but it looks like all the in this facility has been cut."
"Same here."
"As long as that's the situation, there's not a lot I can do. Why don't you see if you can gain access to the backup generators on the ground level." Rick told her.
"I'm on it." Regina said, turning off her communicator. She heard footsteps coming up from behind her and turned and saw Gail. "What are you doing here?"
"I caught the last part of your conversation."
"By the way, I found a key." Regina pulled out the key showing it to him.
"Hand it over."
"No-" Regina was about to protest but Gail swiped the key from her hand.
"Let's head outside." He said and opened the door heading to the generator. Regina followed him, heading to the generator as well. However, she stopped when she saw a body that had been torn to shreds. Gail was examining the body.
"That's disgusting." Regina spoke.
"This guy's been eviscerated. Something's tore his intestines straight out." Gail pointed out.
"Look at those tooth marks. It had to be some sort of animal." Regina said.
"Let's move on." Gail told her. The two headed over to the building that had the backup generator. Gail stopped in front of the door and gestured for Regina to head inside. "Go on in and try to get the power back on. I'm going to search a little more out here."
Regina walked inside the building, seeing the generator and walked over to it. She noticed several colored switches and fuses with the same matching colors as well. She rearranged the fuses and turned them on. There was a loud clanging noise before the generator let out a low rumble, turning back on again. Just as she was about to leave, Regina heard a noise and shots being fired from outside and Gail's voice yell out in pain.
"Gail?" Regina slowly walked towards the door and opened it, stepping outside. Gail was nowhere to be seen. In front of her, there was a blood trail leading to the fence that had been busted with the same amount of force, like the one she had saw earlier at the guards' station. Where was Gail? Regina walked over to the fence and peered over the edge. It was a large drop and there were still no signs of her partner. Had he fallen over the other side and into the ocean!?
"Gail!" Regina called out, her voice echoing in the air, and she called out to him again. Regina heard the waves crashing up against the rocks, but she didn't hear Gail's voice. Suddenly, Regina heard a noise as something was coming fast behind her. She quickly turned around just in time to see a large lizard-like creature jumped down, from the crates, landing in front of her, hissing at Regina. A velociraptor. Regina's eyes widen in shock, and she backed away from it. It was an actual dinosaur in front of her.
"No way."
The dinosaur slowly began to inch closer towards her. Regina tried to pull out her gun. The velociraptor swung its tail, knocking Regina to the ground. She quickly got up and grabbed her gun and ran. As she ran, Regina could her the dinosaur was right behind her as it chased after her. Regina quickly swerved as she heard the raptor let out a shriek and saw it land a few feet in front of her. Regina ran around it as it was turning, and she quickly opened the door and slammed it shut behind her. As she was about to report back to Rick to tell him what had happened, Regina heard the raptor made a roar behind her. She quickly whipped around and saw the dinosaur leaped over the fence, landing in front of her. Regina quickly ran to the door to the guards' station outside and shut it behind her. She saw the dinosaur slowly stalking her on the other side and was about to jump again. Regina quickly fired a shot, scaring the raptor away.
Regina sighed in relief, trying to catch her breath, trying to process what just happened. This can't be happening. That was living, breathing, dinosaur that attacked her and possibly Gail, if he's still alive. He was to be. Then there was a beep coming from her communicator. Regina answered it and heard Rick on the other end.
"Good news, I got the control systems back online! What's the situation over there?"
"It's Gail. I lost him." Regina heard Rick laugh on the other end.
"So, what's the bad news? Did you run into some guards?"
"You're not going to believe this! He was attacked by some kind of dinosaur!" Regina exclaimed.
"Ho ho! That's a good one! So, who was it? Barney?"
"This isn't a joke, you idiot! We were just attacked by a big ass lizard!" Regina growled.
"For real? What's going on over there? All right, head over to the control room and we'll sort out this whole situation."
Regina turned off her communicator and headed towards the facility and opened the door and stepped inside.
