DM Jessica's Eggy Tale
Jessica and Joshua were playing with Margo, Edith and Agnes in Gru's back garden. They were pretending to be astronauts, using a cardboard box as their rocket ship. Edith wanted to use a real rocket like the ones that Gru had in the lab. But it was far too dangerous for kids. ''Is everyone ready?'' asked Joshua. ''Yes, Captain Joshua!'' chorused Margo, Edith, Agnes and Jessica. Blondie who was nearby barked. ''Aww, please let Blondie come with us'' said Margo. ''Sure. Come here, girl!'' said Joshua to Blondie. Blondie jumped in the box with the youngsters.
''Ow! Blondie, watch it!'' yelped Edith. ''Blondie, get your tail out of my face!'' cried Jessica. ''Blondie, sit!'' said Margo. Blondie did what she was told. ''Good girl'' said Margo.
''Everyone strap into your seats'' said Joshua, everyone pretended to do so. ''From the beginning of time, man has wanted to travel the universe! To boldly go where no man has gone before!'' added Joshua, ''Now our rocket has made all things possible! Crew! Prepare for take off!''. They did the countdown and imagined themselves blasting off into outer space. ''Look! There's the moon!'' cried Agnes.
''Just like the one Dad had stolen with the Shrink-Ray!'' remarked Edith. ''I can see Mars!'' said Jessica. ''There's Jupiter!'' said Margo. ''What's that planet with ring thingies'' asked Agnes. ''That's Saturn, Agnes'' replied Margo.
''Mission Control, we're ready for a bumpy landing on that planet below!'' said Joshua imitating static noise, as newscaster. They pretended to land. ''I wonder if we'll meet any aliens?'' said Jessica. ''That's be neat! I bet there's some right in front of us, we could fight 'em off single-handedly'' said Edith excitedly. ''Edith, let's not get too aggressive'' said Margo. Just then it suddenly started to rain. ''Oh-no! It's raining!'' squeaked Agnes. ''In space? That's impossible!'' said Jessica. ''Quick! Take us back!'' urged Edith. ''Will do!'' said Joshua. They tried to make it go, but nothing happened. ''Red alert, Captain! We can't move!'' said Margo. ''The raindrops must be making it heavy! And our vehicle's falling apart!'' said Joshua. '''Duh! It's made of cardboard'' said Edith.
''That's why we're pretending!'' said Jessica. ''Oh-no! Here comes an alien!'' cried Agnes. An octagonal colourful creature emerged from the out of nowhere. ''It's raining!'' it called out. It turned out to be Lucy holding an umbrella. ''Come on, kids, it's raining! Everybody back inside!'' she said. ''Oh, it's only Mom'' said Margo. Blondie and the kids did as they were told and came out of the box. ''Mom, that's not an alien you're holding'' said Edith. ''Of course, it's an umbrella. And you're all soaking wet. Come on, inside, quick!'' said Lucy. ''Mission Control, our flight back to Earth has been delayed due to mysterious weather conditions on the planet. We'll make camp here and come home tomorrow. Over and out'' said Joshua making static noise, as newscaster.
Inside the kids dried themselves off with towels. Blondie simply dried herself by shaking as dogs normally do. ''URRRGH!'' groaned the kids, ''Blondie!''. Later on the rain stopped. ''Ah! Joshua! Jessica! Your parents are here!'' called Lucy. Jessica and Joshua headed off with Jillian and Jackson and both embraced their parents. ''Bye!'' chorused Margo, Edith and Agnes. ''Bye!'' Jessica and Joshua chorused back. Jackson drove the car off down the road. Meanwhile Lucy had some news for her daughters. ''Don't forget I'm gonna be teaching your cookery class at school next week girls'' she said. ''Really? Oh, Mom, that's amazing!'' said Margo happily. Over at Jillian's house, she was talking to Jackson on the phone after he had taken Joshua home. ''Bro, is it OK if Lucy takes your son out with her daughters again?'' she said. ''Sure, sis. But as my son does what she tells him'' replied Jackson.
After Jillian finished the call, she called Lucy to ask her if it was ok for Jessica and Joshua to go with her and her daughters to collect the eggs for the cookery class at school. Lucy said they could come and later Jillian told Jesscia about it. ''You and Joshua will going with Lucy and her daughters to the battery farm to collect something you will need for the cookery class'' she said. Jessica was perplexed. She'd seen her parents use batteries for various things in the house, but she didn't think they came from a farm nor did she have any idea how batteries were needed for the cookery class. When the day came to go to the battery farm, Jessica was still lost in her thoughts.
She, Margo, Edith, Agnes and Joshua all helped Lucy and Farmer Foxford load the crates into Lucy's three mode car. ''Be careful not to break them'' warned Farmer Foxford when they had finished. ''Why do we need to careful with batteries?'' muttered Jessica, ''How can you even break them?''. At the school, everyone helped to unload the crates. Suddenly Jessica slipped on a banana skin that someone had carelessly left on the ground. She fell onto the crate she was carrying which broke beneath her. Splat! Something wet, sticky and gloopy splashed in her hair and was all down her shirt. ''EW! EW! EW!'' said Jessica in disgust, then she looked closely at the mess down her shirt. ''Eggs?!'' she gasped, ''But I thought they were batteries! I didn't know what a battery farm really is but all I get is covered in eggs?!''.
Lucy laughed. ''Farmer Foxford keeps loads of hens and chickens on his farm to lay loads of eggs, that sort of farm is called a battery farm'' she explained, ''We need eggs for the cookery class I'm gonna be teaching cos we're making pancakes''. Jessica felt rather silly. The day for the cookery class with Lucy arrived. Jessica worked alongside her friends mixing the eggs with the other ingredients to make the batter mix for the pancakes. They watched Lucy pour the batter into the hot frying pan repeatedly watching it turn into golden brown pancakes and she flipped them over onto each side. Then everyone tucked into a tasty batch of pancakes with maple syrup. Meanwhile Gru and Dru were talking Kyle, Blondie and Lucky for a walk in the park.
Suddenly the three pets stopped and sniffed the air. Blondie who particularly had a strong sense of smell barked as if to tell the other two pets ''This way!''. They followed her and Gru and Dru followed too. They soon found the smell was coming from the school. Kyle, Blondie and Lucky jumped in through a open window. Margo, Edith, Agnes, Jessica and Joshua were surprised to see them. The three pets started to gobble up the pancakes. Lucy and the kids were shocked. "Blondie!" cried Lucy. "Oh, no!" cried Margo. "Lucky, we were saving those!" whined Agnes. "The smell must've caught the animals' attention" said Edith. Kyle, Blondie and Lucky all continued devouring, chewing, gulping, slurping and chomping rapidly. ''I guess you do have to be careful when you leave a window open'' said Jessica and they all laughed.
Gru and Dru arrived on the scene and saw the pancake mess on the floor. ''Well, looks like someone's been busy'' said Gru. ''And hungry, too'' added Dru.
