Chapter 1: Pizza Moment #1.
There was excitement at Magnolia Middle School's cafeteria. The children were excitedly anticipating the end-of-year pizza party, filling the atmosphere with joy and enthusiasm. The decorations were festive and colorful pizza boxes were neatly lined up on the serving counter. The cafeteria staff was working tirelessly to keep up with the demand, and they were just about to start serving generous portions of pizza. The clatter of plates mixed with the hum of conversation created a lively symphony of sounds.
The cafeteria was buzzing with life as groups of friends clustered around tables, their animated conversations filling the air with warmth and energy. Laughter and chatter intermingled, creating a vibrant hub of activity. The teachers moved among the tables, their friendly smiles and offers of assistance adding to the comfortable and lively atmosphere. This was more than just a place to eat; it was a place where bonds of friendship were forged and memories that would last a lifetime were made.
Rick Grimes stood at the door scanning the room with his piercing blue eyes in search of his friends; his stomach grumbled in anticipation of the cheesy goodness to come. He couldn't find Shane or Daryl, and he didn't feel like hanging out around Lori who always seemed to cling to him like a lost puppy. He heard the bell ring and saw how the students started to line up. He wondered where his friends might be. Just as he was about to give up hope, a light touch on his shoulder caused him to turn around.
"Are you going in or out?"
Rick stood there, his eyes locked on the girl in front of him. He remained silent for a few seconds, taking in every detail of her appearance. As he tilted his head, he noticed the smoothness and richness of her dark skin, the depth and beauty of her round dark eyes, and the fullness of her lips. Her stunning beauty struck him and he couldn't help but feel a sense of secret admiration for the girl.
For a moment, Rick found himself lost in thought, contemplating his next move. He couldn't help but feel a strong urge to...
She snapped her fingers in front of him cutting through the awkward silence that hung between them. Her piercing gaze bore into him as she asked once more asked again:
"Are. You. Going. In. Or. Out?"
"Hmmm… Sorry. In."
The girl let out a frustrated sigh because she recognized who he was. The famous Rick Grimes. Most girls would have been thrilled to have him or his friends at their birthday parties, but not her. She didn't have time for that. She was busy focusing on her grades and being at the top of their class so the following year she could go into the private high school her parents were preparing her for. The one she wanted to attend to.
As other students passed around them, Rick stood in the same spot. She squinted at him, somehow studying him. This was the first time she was face-to-face with him. Her gaze was drawn to the small, dark mole nestled on the right side of his face, just beside his nose. The sight of it was oddly alluring, a mysterious feature that seemed to add depth and intrigue to his appearance. However, to her surprise, he didn't turn around or allow her to move inside as anticipated. Instead, he stood there, silent and still, as if waiting for something to happen.
In her head, she repeated to herself, "Don't look at the mole." Feeling annoyed, she scoffed and attempted to go around him, but he once again got in her way.
"Wait… We… haven't met. I'm Rick".
"I know."
The girl attempted to leave once more when she saw another child hurry past them, holding two slices of pepperoni in a paper tray. This irritated her because she had forgotten her lunch at home that morning, and now she wouldn't be able to eat lunch. Besides, she was hungry, and the protein bar she had earlier didn't do much to satisfy her hunger. On top of that, she had practice later and needed the energy.
"Would you mind?", she said exasperatedly.
"Hold on, what's your name? I haven't seen you around. You must be new."
"No, Rick. I've been going to this school for 2 years now."
"Really? How come I've never seen you before?" She shrugged and tried to sidestep him again to reach the counter. That pizza looked so good.
"Wait…"
"If I don't get a slice this instant, you are buying me pizza. So, MOVE."
She was not playing. He was getting on her nerves, purposely annoying her, and he seemed to find it entertaining. He did his signature head tilt one more time.
"What if that's what I want?"
She raised an eyebrow amused by his boldness.
"Is that what you want, Richard?" Oh, she was teasing him now. She was, right? He couldn't tell. Shane and Daryl always could but it was so confusing for him. Girls confused him.
"Why not?"
"They were both still standing by the cafeteria door. She glanced over at the counter where the slices of pizza were quickly being snatched up. She only said something to get him to move, as any other kid would have done. But Rick Grimes was made of a different material.
Defeated, she let out a sigh. His cute mole was the problem. She was going to regret this probably but whatever. She could always stand him up.
"Alright, can I go now?"
With a grin, she stepped around him and made her way to the counter, playfully waving goodbye until she heard his shout.
"You never told me your name!"
She turned around and smiled.
"It's Michonne."
Let me know what you think.
Four more pizzas and a ring moments to go!
Stay tuned.
