Wait in the Truck

Chapter Three

A/N:

I'm sorry it's taken so long! I was wrapping up my bachelor's degree online while working a pretty demanding career last time I posted (Yay for getting a degree in your late 20's). Since then, I have been working on my master's degree online and there's just not enough time. I also very rarely feel inspired to write fiction these days; however, this story has been calling to me for the last couple of them. I just re-read what I'd written so far and noticed a few grammatical oopsies and tense switching, so I'll apologize for that! I also noticed an oopsie at the end of the last chapter that I will be correcting when I publish this chapter. I said Bella was waiting in front of his truck right after saying he was trying to figure out who to call for a ride home which literally makes no sense. Whoops, anyway, enjoy chapter three!

"No need to thank me ma'am, it was the right thing to do. I'm Jasper Whitlock, it's a pleasure to finally meet you." He drawled.

Bella looked at her savior and chuckled a bit – he was definitely from around these parts; his Texan accent was strong.

"The pleasure is mine. I can't thank you enough for what you did for me. I was leaving that day and you made it safe so that I wouldn't be looking over my shoulder for the rest of my life." She peered up at him and offered him a smile.

In the process, she realized he was tall; taller than Edward had been. He must've been a good 6'4 compared to her 5'5 frame. He had honey-blonde curls that reached his ears and his blue eyes that were almost ice with a ring of gold circling the pupil, a strong straight nose, and full lips – her savior was gorgeous. She hadn't realized it the night of the incident, but in the following months as her eyes had healed and she had dealt with the police, she had seen his pictures.

"How'd you know I was getting out today?" He asked with a small grin of his own. She noticed that he avoided acknowledging her praise a second time.

"Turns out, my daddy is chief of police in your hometown. Not long after I went to stay with him, your kin came to find me." As she said this, she noticed the shock on his face.

"No shit? Chief Swan is your father?" His voice was incredulous.

"No, shit. That being said, your family wanted to be here, but the release was so last minute, they couldn't get off of work. I'm here to drive you back home." She began to walk towards adjacent car lot and as she expected, he followed.

"I can't let you do that, it's a four hour drive." Even as he said it, he continued to follow her to her vehicle. He was surprised to follow her to a robin blue lifted Jeep Wrangler.

She unlocked the vehicle and the lights flashed quickly. "I volunteered. I figured the least that I could do for you was take you back home and get you something that wasn't jail food on the way home."

Before she could open her door, he was there and opening it for her. Bella blushed and thanked him quietly before using the handle and the step to propel herself into her truck.

He shut the door behind her and jogged around the front of her Jeep. She turned it on and got her navigation going as he settled into the passenger side of her vehicle.

"Ready to go home?"

"More than you could ever know."

"I'm not too sure about that one, cowboy."

And then they were off.

A/N:

Guys, this was such a difficult decision to make because I really was picturing my southern gentleman as Emmett but so many of you wanted Jasper that I felt like I had to. I'm considering writing two different stories from this point on –one that is an Emmett pairing because I love him so much.-Marieorsomething
