Chapter 1

The Doctor was not a happy alien. The Time Lords had sent his companions Jamie and Zoe back to their own times with only the memories of their first adventure. Now, they were about to exile him to Earth after forcing him to regenerate. Trapped on a single planet with a new face he did not choose. This was cruel and unusual punishment. The Doctor was an eternal traveler. The idea of being restricted like that was unthinkable.

The Doctor, unfortunately, could not think of a way out of it. As he had told his companions, there just was not a thing he could do.

Now, the Time Lords who had passed judgment on him, were a second away from enacting their punishment. However, a sphere of golden light suddenly appeared, floating through the air to the judges. This sphere projected a light onto their faces. Their expressions became rather displeased.

"Well, Doctor, it seems this is your lucky day." One of the judges said. "The High Council has intervened. It seems there is a rift in the fabric of space-and-time. This rift is pulling things from our universe into an alternate one."

"Oh, most dreadful." The Doctor said. "That can cause a great deal of damage. If not remedied, both universes could be destroyed."

"Indeed. Now, it is your mission to stop that from happening." Another judge said. "And, we will provide you with a means of repairing this rift."

Suddenly, something appeared in the Doctor's right hand. It was a mechanical, cylindrical object with an emitter that glowed blue. The Doctor recognized the object as a sonic screwdriver, one a few generations more advanced than the one he had been previously using.

"That particular sonic screwdriver has an added function that will enable it to close the Temporal Rift." The first judge said. "The dimensional coordinates have been programmed into your Tardis."

"Well then, I'll be on my way." The Doctor said, ever so glad to leave Gallifrey, homeworld of the Time Lords.

"If you succeed in this mission, not only will all charges against you be dropped, but your Tardis will be upgraded to travel to other universes permanently." The first judge said. "Best of luck, Doctor."

The Doctor was only half listening. He had a new adventure before him. He would have to find this rift, but while he did, there was a whole new universe to explore.

In the other universe, in a secret military compound in the Cheyenne Mountain Range, a group of four soldiers were playing a game of cards. They were celebrating the fact they would be shipping out tomorrow. This underground, concrete facility was being shut down. As far as they were concerned, good riddance.

They look forward to being able to see the sun. Odds were, they would be sent somewhere in the Pacific. The United States military was concerned with the build up of the Chinese military. Since the Russians invaded Ukraine, there was a lot of fear that the Chinese would launch an invasion of Taiwan.

"Honestly, what do you think the odds are President Steele will try to organize a draft?" Corporal Ethan Stone asked, as he shuffled the deck.

"Practically zero." Mary Campbell, the one woman of the group, replied. "There hasn't been a draft in this country in almost fifty years. Nothing short of World War III could cause a draft. And, I think, as long as Ukraine holds out against Russia, it won't happen."

"I'm with Mary on this one." Joey Chang said. "When the invasion happened, I was scared about the future, but things are not as bad as they could be. The Ukrainians are still fighting. And Russia finds itself in worse shape every day that passes. They're gonna lose, and the world will go on."

Peter Johnson, the fourth player, nodded. Before Ethan could reply, they all heard something. They turned towards the large circle-shaped object under a tarp. This loud whirring sound originated from it. Mary approached it as the tarp fell off. All the time they had spent at this base, they had never seen what was underneath that tarp.

At the end of a metal ramp, there stood a large metallic stone circle with strange symbols carved into it. The symbols were beginning to rotate. Mary stood before it as all of the sudden, a liquid membrane burst out from inside the circle. It almost touched Mary, but she stood just out of its range.

Corporal Stone dashed to the phone attached to the wall nearby. He quickly dialed the base commander and rapidly reported the situation. This base still used old dial and cord phones because they were easier underground. Joey and Peter grabbed their nearby M4 rifles. Meanwhile, Mary walked towards the liquid that had formed a sort of solid wall within the circle. As she reached out to touch it, something emerged from the liquid right next to her.

A figure in gray metal armor, with a large snake-like helmet appeared. This figure held a staff in their right hand. Seeing Mary, the figure grabbed her. She struggled, the figure held her tight.

"Release her!" Peter shouted with his rifle raised.

As if on queue, more individuals came through the strange liquid. All of them were dressed in the same armor as the first, as if it were some kind of uniform. They marched with the discipline of soldiers and each carried a staff in their hands. They formed ranks on either side of the metal ramp. Eight of these armor snake helmeted guys marched out to join the first.

Then, one more emerged. This one was different. The armor and helmet they wore was golden colored. They also held no staff. Suddenly, their golden helmet opened with a clang. In the golden armor was a man who looked to be in his late twenties to early thirties, of Middle Eastern descent and had an arrogant sneer.

"Jaffa, kree!" He shouted, like a drill sergeant commanding trainees. "Teal'c, kree!"

The first snake helmeted person, who was still restraining Mary, passed her to his golden companion.

"Get your hands off me!" Mary said.

The golden armored guy raised his right hand to her face. There was some sort of device on his hand that he wore like a glove. An orange light shone on Mary's face, then she stopped struggling. Her eyes became unfocused. She seemed drunk, from if she swayed.

This was the last straw for Peter. He opened fire on one of the intruders with his rifle. The intruder's armor seemed to protect him from the bullets at first. However, after a dozen seconds or so, he collapsed. Blood spilling from where the armor had been pierced. The other armored intruders began aiming their staff weapons at them. They fired some sort of energy blast from them. It was like something from an old sci-fi show. Peter was hit before he could take cover. He lay on the ground, smoldering and unmoving.

Ethan hollered into the base phone, "We're taking fire down here!" Before taking cover behind a wooden pile of crates.

He and Joey fired their rifles at the intruders. As trained soldiers, they knew each to take shots while the other one was not. That helped prolong the battle. An alarm sounded throughout the base. Reinforcements would be there soon. All the two of them had to do was stay alive until then.

"Jaffa, kree!" The golden armored man shouted in an angry tone. "Teal'c!"

The original intruder took a protective position in front of the one who restrained Mary.

Joey ran out of bullets in his rifle, and switched to his pistol. Believing the golden boy and the one directly protecting him to be the commanders, he decided to do something reckless. He abandoned cover, shooting at them like a mad man. A bullet dented the golden boy's shoulder. The golden boy let out a holler of rage.

One of the intruders charged Joey, swatting his pistol away with their staff. Joey grabbed onto that staff. They struggled over it, until Joey was thrown to the ground. As the staff weapon was aimed at him by the intruder, Ethan emptied the bullets from his gun's chamber into that specific snake-headed invader. The jerk fell over with blood gushing some holes in his chest. Unfortunately, the others were still standing.

Rather than continuing to fight, they began moving back through the circular structure. Ethan began to think of it as some kind of gate. They went back through, one after the other, until only the two commanders remained, still holding Mary hostage.

Just then, the metal doors of the room where they were slid open. Armed U.S. army soldiers poured through, weapons ready.

"Hold your fire! They've got one of our own!" Ethan shouted quickly.

General Charles Winchester III, the commander of the base, arrived just in time to watch as the last two passed back through the gate. However, the golden one turned back to glare. Just for a moment, his eyes glowed. Seconds after they went back through the gate, the liquid membrane dissipated into the air.

General Winchester walked up the metal platform to stand under the stone circle. After a moment, he said, "Contact Colonel Jack O'Neill. Looks like the Stargate Program just got a jump start."

The Doctor landed his Tardis on a planet in the alternate universe.

"Now to find that nasty rift." He murmured to himself.

He stepped out of his Tardis and saw his vessel was atop a hill, where he could see a large, circular stone structure.

What a curious object. The Doctor thought. Perhaps it's more than a monument of some sort?

After admiring the twin moons, the Doctor walked while holding up his new sonic screwdriver, which was beeping like a geiger counter. He confirmed he was on the same planet as a rift.

"I hope the natives here are friendly." The Doctor murmured to himself.

After a good ten-fifteen minutes of walking, the Doctor saw what appeared to be a city. As he approached it , a pair of guards dressed in armor with large snake-modeled helmets stopped him. They pointed spear-like weapons at him.
"Oh, don't mind me." The Doctor said. "Just out for a stroll."

The two city guards turned to each other. Then, one of them hit the Doctor in the stomach with his weapon and the other grabbed him by the collar.
"No need to be so rough!" The Doctor exclaimed. "Truly, didn't your mothers' ever teach you not to gut-punch a man the first time you meet."

The two Serpent Guards remained silent. They practically dragged the Doctor through the town, through a fortress in the center of it, and, at last, dropped him in a cell.
As they walked away, the Doctor called out, "Quite the welcoming committee you have here!"

"You're telling me, pal." A voice came from the cell across from the Doctor's. "What did they grab you for?"

"I have not done anything." The Doctor replied, as he peered through the bars.
It was a woman in the other cell. More curiously, she was wearing a khaki army uniform. The Doctor had not seen anyone else wearing such modern clothing on the way to this prison. Everyone was dressed in a much more medieval fashion.

The woman looked towards the Doctor. "Hey, those clothes you're wearing … That English accent … You are not from this place?"

"Yes, I had just arrived on this planet and was exploring when those brutes grabbed me and brought me here. You don't seem to be from around here, either. What did you do to land yourself here?" The Doctor asked.

"Planet? You mean we are not on Earth?!" The woman exclaimed.

"Oh, no. You can tell from the two moons in the sky." The Doctor replied. "I'm the Doctor. I think we should share what we know, miss."

"My name is Mary Campbell. Corporal Mary Campbell." She said, "I will tell you what I know, if you promise to help me get out of here."

"Certainly, if you promise to do the same for me." The Doctor answered.
The two captives then began a long exchange of information.
