Hey everyone! I'm back! I know, it's been AGES! But I've started a new course, and my little one is now a big school girl and life has been so hectic. I have been continuing to write, just haven't had anything I've wanted to share yet is all. But this one has been exciting me for a while, and I want to take it further, but I just had to share it now. I have a few more I'm working on too, and I know I have to get back to my other fics too, and I will, I just don't when or which to work on first.

But for now, please enjoy Miniature Dragons, and let me know what you think and if you think I should continue with this little idea. Ciao!

Harry was ecstatic. He had completed the first task in the Triwizard competition, and not only had he survived the encounter with the dragon, and not just any dragon but a Hungarian Horntail, he had come out of it with some pretty good points too. Not too bad for an underage wizard. And Ron had apologised too, though Harry wasn't too sure how he felt about that, it hadn't been a very good apology, but he had accepted it for Hermione's sake.

He grinned as the model of the Hungarian Horntail he had drawn from the bag before the task settled down for the night on his bedside table. It was an amazing piece of magic, and unlike Ron's model of Krum from the Quidditch World Cup, the enchantments hadn't started to fade yet. He wondered how long these would last for.

The next morning when he woke up, the enchantments were still going strong on the little dragon. Harry knew that it wasn't a real dragon, but it sure seemed to act that way. All of a sudden, he had an idea. Getting dressed fast, he grabbed the dragon and was out of the dorm before his roommates were even awake. Grinning, Harry hurried out of the castle and down to Hagrid's hut.

'Harry!' The gentle groundskeeper boomed when he answered the door. 'I was hoping to see you today, wanted to congratulate you on the task yesterday. Amazing flying, your dad would have been so proud to have seen you, your mum too I reckon, though she probably would have been terrified too.'

'Thanks Hagrid,' grinned Harry, hands hidden behind his back. 'But I actually came down to give you something.'

'Give me something?' Hagrid asked, confused. 'What would you want to give me?'

Harry made Hagrid close his eyes and hold out his hands, and gently tipped the Horntail into the big cup made by his first magical friend's hands.

'Have a look,' he grinned.

Hagrid opened his eyes and gasped, staring at the tiny dragon in his hands. 'Harry,' he whispered, 'What did you do?'

'Don't worry,' Harry rushed to reassure his friend. 'I didn't steal a baby dragon or anything like that, before the first task, when us Champions were all in the tent, Mr Bagman made us draw lots from a bag to see what order we'd be competing in. Each of us drew one of these little models, they had numbers around their necks, this little one was mine, number 4. I know it's not a real dragon, and I don't know how long the enchantments will last, but I thought you'd like to have it. I know how much you love dragons.'

Harry was suddenly engulfed in a giant hug; he felt his feet leave the floor as he hugged the big man back.

'Thank you, Harry,' Hagrid said as he released his little friend, tears of joy trailing down into his beard. 'This is amazing, thank you. I will treasure it forever, even once the enchantments are gone.'

The two chatted for a while, watching as the dragon explored the hut and blew smoke at Fang when he came too close. Eventually, Harry had to leave though, breakfast and homework awaited him.

The next day, Harry was pulled aside by Cedric.

'Harry, I don't know what to do with that bloody dragon model, it's all but destroyed our dorm room, my roommates hate it, what did you do with yours?'

'Oh, I gave mine to Hagrid actually,' Harry explained. 'He loves dragons, always wanted one, and I figured these are safe enough for him, and he can handle them just fine.'

'Excellent,' Cedric grinned. 'Do you think he'd like another?'

'I think he'd be thrilled,' Harry grinned back. 'But be prepared for a bone crushing hug.' He laughed.

'Thanks Harry,' laughed Cedric. 'That's gonna make my roommates happy. I wonder if Krum and Fleur would be interested in, uh, donating theirs as well?'

'If I see them, I'll ask.' Harry said.

Cedric hurried off to his dorm to get his dragon to give to Hagrid, the sooner it was out of the dorm the better, and Harry headed into the Hall for lunch.

Upon entering, he saw Fleur at the Ravenclaw table, and Krum at the Slytherin table. He headed for Krum first and asked if they could talk, and then gathered Fleur too.

He explained to them what he and Cedric had done with their dragons, and that if they too wanted to be rid of the magical figures before they did too much damage that Hagrid would happily take them off their hands. Both of his fellow champions happily agreed to gift the big man with their models, Fleur's had been destroying her clothes in her room and Krum's was filling his bunk with smoke. They said they'd drop them off at the hut after their lunch.

When Harry next visited Hagrid, he was amused to see that the little dragons had taken over one of the wide shelves on the wall and made that their home. The enchantments were still going strong too. Hagrid told him they had started producing little sparks now in addition to the smoke, and Harry was once again amazed at what magic could do.

Once he had left the hut, he ended up in the library, asking the librarian where to find books on enchanting objects. She sent him to the charms section, and that was where Professor Flitwick found him.

'Mr Potter, you don't have any charms homework at the moment, what brings you to this section of the library today?'

Harry explained about the models, and that he was really interested to know how such a thing was possible. Flitwick was ecstatic that a student wanted to do some independent study in his field, and happily directed Harry to some introductory books on the subject and showed him Madam Pince's stack of Flourish and Blotts catalogues and order forms if he wanted to get some extra reading materials on the subject.

Harry had had no idea that such catalogues and forms were available, and took two sets, because if Hermione had known about this surely, she would have told him. He thanked the tiny professor and promised to come to him with any questions.

'Harry, these catalogues are amazing! How have I never known about these before?' Hermione gushed as she browsed the catalogue Harry had given her.

'I don't know,' laughed Harry. 'I thought for sure you'd know about these. I wonder if there are any other catalogues we could get?'

'Did you say catalogues?' Asked Lavender as she walked past, doubling back to have a look.

'Yeah,' Hermione said with a shy smile. 'Harry picked up these Flourish and Blotts owl order catalogues from the library earlier, and we were just wondering if there were any for other stores too.'

'Ooh, wait right here, I'll be right back!' Lavender dashed off up the stairs to the girls' dorms, and before Harry and Hermione had more than exchanged a confused glace at each other, she was bounding back, arms full of catalogues. 'Check it out! Nearly every store in Diagon has owl order catalogues. I'm subscribed, so I get a new catalogue owled out to me when they're available, these are all the latest ones. Harry, I think you'll like this one for the quidditch shop, and Hermione, have a look at these!'

Lavender spread the catalogues out and started to organise them into piles, one for books, one for potions, one for quidditch, another for makeup and accessories, and a rather large one for clothes. She passed Hermione the ones for books and writing supplies and Harry the ones for quidditch.

'Wow, Lavender these are amazing!' Harry said with a smile. 'You've got catalogues for everything!'

'Oh wow, look at these new quills that have come in!' Hermione gushed. 'Oh, and you've got one for Madam Malkin's too, that's great, I need a couple new blouses after sitting opposite Ron last week, he's completely ruined three of mine now.'

'I also have one for Twilfit and Tattings,' Lavender said with a smile towards Hermione. 'I know most students get their uniforms at Malkin's, but I really like the softer materials offered by T and T.'

She showed Hermione her shirt and bid the other girl to feel it. It was definitely softer than the one Hermione was currently wearing, and soon the girls were talking fashion together to Harry's shock and delight. He had been concerned about Hermione only having him and Ron to talk to, and Ron wasn't the best conversationist.

With a frown, he interrupted the girls to ask if Lavender had any catalogues for men's clothes, and when she passed over the second half of the T and T catalogue, he was drawn into the conversation as well. Between the three of them, they soon had forms completed for a variety of items, clothes and quills and books and a few other things too. As Hermione didn't have a Gringotts vault to pay from, Harry agreed to pay for her stuff, and she just gave him the galleons she had had exchanged from her muggle money. They sent Hedwig off with the order after Lavender explained that the snowy owl wouldn't have to bring their orders back to them, the stores had postal owls for that so that no one owl was overloaded.

It took a few days for their orders to arrive, but when they did Lavender and Hermione immediately rushed off to try on their new clothes. Harry smiled and followed them; he too had ordered some new clothes that he would have to hide from the Dursleys but that he could happily wear while at school.

A few weeks later, Harry stayed behind in charms to talk to Professor Flitwick about his findings. He had not just used the books in the school library, but had also ordered some other, more advanced texts from Flourish and Blotts too.

'You know Mr Potter, this is some astounding research you've done so far, would you be interested in a little extra credit project?'

'What would something like that entail, sir?' Harry asked. 'I do have this stupid tournament on top of my usual schoolwork.'

'Yes, I realise that,' the professor reassured him, 'what I was thinking was, you write me a couple of essays on the subject of enchanting objects to be animated, like those little dragons that spurred this interest in the first place, there's no set dates for submission and no set lengths, just get them to me when you can. And by the end of the year, I would like to see you attempt to enchant something yourself. If you agree to this, you'll get extra credits towards your final charms results, and next year I may set you slightly advanced works in addition to another extra credit project. You never know what this could lead to, a future career or even a charms mastery. You know, your mother was working towards her charms mastery, before they had to go into hiding. I always wondered if her old journals had survived.'

'I never knew that,' Harry breathed, 'about my mum I mean. Everyone always talks about my dad, probably because of how much I look like him. But I'm also her son, and I want to know more about her too.'

The charms professor proceeded to tell Harry what he remembered about Lily Evans, and Harry grinned at her antics with charms. The two chatted until dinner time, and by then Harry had agreed to the extra credit project.

'Harry, that is so amazing!' Hermione gushed when Harry told her about the opportunity he had been granted, as well some of the stories Professor Flitwick had told him about his mother. 'I'm so jealous!'

'Pff,' snorted Ron as he walked past them. 'Of course you are, jealous of extra schoolwork. And you Harry, mate, what are you doing? You don't even have to take the exams this year, why would you want to do extra work if you don't have to?'

'Because I find this particular subject very interesting, doubly so because it gives me a connection to my mum that I've never had before.'

'But Quidditch gives you a connection to your parents, remember? And the Tournament! How are you going to win it for Gryffindor if you're too distracted by whatever this extra schoolwork is?' whined Ron.

'Quidditch is something I share with my dad, yeah, but not my mum. Come on Ron, I didn't even want to enter this stupid Tournament, what makes you think I want to win it? And I'm not even a proper Champion, it's called the TWI Wizard Tournament, not the Quad Wizard Tournament. As far as I'm concerned, Cedric Diggory is the Hogwarts Champion. All I want to do is survive this stupid thing.'

'What? I, can't even, what?' Ron huffed in disgust as Harry and Hermione sighed and walked away from him. 'What just happened?' The disgruntled redhead asked the empty corridor.
