Chapter 41
Jet awoke, his eyes widening as he let out a instinctive groan. His breath hollow as he traced his hand down to his side ribcage. His breath in a rush as he pushed himself along the wall as he began to zone in on his surroundings.
He was in a cell of sorts. He could feel the shifting movements from below him as his eyes began to adjust to his surroundings. They seemed to be on a boat, a fire nation war ship of sorts. He could piece through the dark black metal and the inching allure of the lone lantern.
"Jet your up!" Katara spoke. Grabbing along her friend as she helped him off the floor. The young warrior rising as his hand stuck along his ribcage. His breath rattling as his back rested along the cold wall.
It prickled his skin, but it was better than struggling along the ground like a wounded animal. "Katara…"
"Where at a dock. I don't know exactly where but they captured us…I don't know if they got Aang and the rest."
Katara's explanation filled Jet's ears. The young warrior instinctively reaching for his belt to draw upon his lightsaber, but he simply patted along the loose air. Letting a blow of hot air travel from his nose as his eyes drawn upon their surroundings once again. Only for his other senses to take note. "Someone is coming…"
He quickly snapped his head towards Katara as…
"Ah, your awake." Rowan spoke. The Darkest Knight's voice filled their confined quarters as Jet's throat hitched. Brief flashes of light traveling through his mind's eye, that one, that singular Sith had outmatched him completely and utterly.
Played around with him like he was simply some dumb animal…he was on a completely different level than the other enemies that they had fought against. Sweat barreled down from his brow as his hand went along his chest, almost a sign along the tense feeling of his heartbeat that ricocheted along his ear drums.
Katara's grip on Jet tightened as Arya entered. Rowan grabbing a chair as he dragged it over towards the center of the room. The legs of the chair resounding along the metallic ship as he slinked into the seat his eyes drawing towards the pair.
Arya watching the pair. These were the people she had heard so much of. The team that made up Team Avatar. A team, a group of people who desperately fought against the Sith and the fire nation. When it was revealed that the Avatar had returned the Sith were still in hiding and didn't wish to interfere.
The Fire Nation was strong, it was powerful, and it could handle a twelve-year-old boy. Yet, Benjamin came along. Stories rippled through the four nations of a warrior of the force, one that had brandished a violet bladed lightsaber that aided the avatar.
Kiara, a student of Darth Fowl was sent to confirm the truth and it turns out…the whispers and stories ran true. The Force, and the Jedi had once again risen through this world.
Rowan clicked his lips as his hand brushed to his side. Trailing along the hilt of his long lightsaber blade, to the other attached to his waist. Jet's eyes widened as he watched Rowan lift his lightsaber. His thumb along the ignition as a second later the gleam of a cyan lightsaber filled the dark expanse of the ship.
"You know, when I came to this world…I was shocked to find out that the Sith and The Jedi existed here. Even more shocked that such a primitive world had the knowledge and the recourses to create such modern lightsabers." Rowan spoke, lightly trailing Jet's lightsaber as the hum filled the room, the slow swings trailing along his eyes as Jet and Katara watched them hesitantly. "I heard the rumors, that Ben had started to train more Knights. Funny, did he tell you that when we were training on dantooine that he built his first blade with a cyan focusing crystal as well?"
Rowan slowly closed his lips. His eyes losing the glare as a small smile entranced his face. His heart slowly softening as he watched the gleam of that light blue blade. Back then, on the roaring plains of Dantooine life was simple. They were meant to be Jedi, powerful users of the force that would fight for the innocent and maintain order.
He could remember it all. The exhilaration of lightsaber combat, the tedious history lessons…and that warm feeling of even meditation. They were at peace, and his friend were by his side. Him, Arya…and Ben. They were becoming future Jedi Knights, but the war happened…and Ben choose to walk his own path, the way of the Sith came later.
Rowan deactivated the weapon. The cyan blade going back into the hilt with a snap as he reconnected it back to his own belt. He could still remember that day he left. Both were bruised and beaten, shocked and fearful of the true power Ben had held.
They watched him vanish along with Meetra and Malak…along with Revan. He looked so sure of himself, so proud of what he was going to accomplish by going to war, by maintaining order.
"Your name is Jet, correct?" Arya spoke. Her emerald eyes zoning on the freedom fighter as Jet simply sneered at her direction. "I can feel your connection to the force. It is primal and untrained…but it runs through you like a storm."
His hand cutting like a blade as he threw his glance away from her. "I have nothing to say to you…Sith spawn."
Yet, Katara's eyes zoned in on the girl. Her heart thumping as her eyes drawn forward to the pair as she recounted what they had said. She remembered a long time ago, maybe during the beginning of their journey when it was revealed that Ben used to be a Jedi.
Back then…he was simply a drunken fool that wanted to vanish and let the world sort itself out, but now he had changed and became something better. Yet, there was still something of important value to note in that conversation.
Aang had asked Ben what color his lightsaber was…and she remembered that answer. A double-bladed lightsaber that he converted from his original hilt, and it held a cyan crystal.
"How did you know that?" Katara asked. The two Sith prodigies zoning in on the pair as she watched them. Her eyes widening as she began to fear for the worst. "Ben's lightsaber, it used to a cyan bladed one..."
Arya clicked her lips as Rowan held back a laugh. "Isn't it obvious, we trained together on the enclave on Dantooine. Right before we crashed onto this world."
Katara and Jet stared at the pair for a whole minute. Mute as they couldn't help but think. Crashed onto this world?' The very though nearly had them reel backwards. It was insane talk, for someone to come from a completely different world from their own!
"Your lying!" Jet snapped back. His fist striking the wound as it dulled under his weight. Lifting himself off the floor as he zoned in on the two dark jedi. "You expect me to believe this! That you knew my master and that you come from space of all things." He chattered, a dangerous laugh emptying from his lips as he gripped the bars of the cell.
Arya cracked her neck as she leaned on the wall behind her. Rowan tossing a glance behind her as he saw her muscles slightly tense up. A telltale sign of the fact that his friend was slowly getting annoyed. "Possibly, Ben would've referred to us by our nicknames. Tressal and Shan, you've heard of us now I bet…" Arya finished.
Katara's mouth hitched. Her fingers going towards her mouth. Her eyes widening as she felt sick…these were his friends, what he once considered to be his family. Yet now they were simply Sith. No, that couldn't be right, there had to be more to it!
"If you really are them. Then why did you join the Sith?" Katara said. The question ringing within the air for a second as both Arya and Rowan glanced at the other.
Rowan slowly combing his hair as he glanced back at the water tribe girl. "Yes, we were once Jedi apprentices but after crashing onto this world we realized that there was no other option."
"No…other option?" Jet aimlessly repeated.
"Yeah, the Sith here were different. Unlike the ones that were from our last galaxy this group of Sith strived for order and power. This world like it or not is our home, there are no starships or anything that can save us because the magnetic field of the black hole practically destroys everything. There is a reason why there is only debris and ancient knowledge scattered along this world…"
"So, we decided because this was our home now…to aid the fire nation and to join the Sith. To finally put an end to this century long war and create an era of peace."
The words funneled from Arya's mouth as Rowan slowly nodded in approval. This interaction completely contradicted what Jet was doing…a laugh, but not just a laugh, almost maniacal as he threw his head back.
"Are you kidding me…you joined the Sith and the fire nation to create an era of peace!" He snapped, his laughter echoing as he pounded along the bars.
Arya clicked her teeth. Her eyes drawing forward, a dangerous glare that slowly cut Jet off. "Then, what shall we do? The Fire nation are the only nation that is committing to industry and seems to be the most well of during the war. Of course, there have been situations…"
"Situations!" Jet repeated. His hand going towards his chest than locking towards the other dark jedi. "My whole village was burnt down by the fire nation. I've seen men, woman, and children die for your so-called era of peace!"
"Yes, these are all horrible but are testament to how important it is for us to swiftly end this war…"
Arya's words flew almost mechanically through her mouth, etched with deceit and fear. Even Rowan, felt it. The urge, the hesitation…the doubts. Still, what other choice did they have except to follow the path their new masters had left for them?
They had killed people, laid waste to cities, it couldn't have all been for nothing…they had to finish what had been stared all these years ago.
"That is why it is so important for Ben to come back to us. We will save him; it won't be so hard. He fell to the dark side and joined the Sith once, it won't be hard for him to do it again."
"What!" Katara lurched from the cot. Her eyes scanning the faces of the dark jedi. The words ringing along them as she stuttered. Her hands gripping along the iron bars as she wrenched her face forward.
"He didn't tell you…" Rowan said.
Katara's eyes widening, leaning back from the bars as she slouched once again on the cot. "No…it can't be…"
"It's true, Ben did fall to the Sith…and he became a Sith Marauder."
The words emptied from Jet's lips. His gaze averted from Katara's scorn as she went towards him. That dangerous gleam of her dark blue eyes peered into his own, no wonder so many fire nation soldiers feared such a water bender.
"You…knew!" She screamed, her voice echoing through the ship as her fingers tightened into two fists. Jet simply shaking his head in response.
"Ben told me in confidence and something like that isn't just something you share!" Jet snapped.
Katara and Jet held a figment of righteousness within their actions. Jet, for he believed that it was simply his masters past and how he put it behind him. He held no real clue of what his master truly did accomplish in that other galaxy…as a slave to Revan's Sith Empire.
Likewise, Katara held a decent point. They had all discussed Ben's "Issues" and such knowledge would've aided them. Would've helped them piece together more of the mysteries of his past and learn how to help him better.
"So, you didn't know…" Arya spoke. Taking a deep breath as her gaze went to the young knight and the water bender. "Ben didn't tell you about his time in that galaxy. The wars, his training, his past…what about his service to the dark lord of the Sith?"
"No…he simply told me that he was a Sith Marauder and fell to the dark side. I could tell that he didn't want to talk more about it." Jet exclaimed. His eyes darting to his shoes as he remembered that conversation. In that alleyway after fleeing from the fire nation, how his hate was tempered but his master's words had slowly soothed him, or at least kept the anger at bay.
Katara slowly shook her head in response. "He told me that the Jedi failed him. He told me about you guys and the…duel."
Katara's words etched through her words. Arya and Rowan both glancing at the other, brief harsh flashes of light conflicting between their minds eyes.
Ben standing over them, their bodies displayed along the training mat. Rowan's hoarse breathing as the bruises and welts decorated his frame as the hum of his blue blade was aimed at his face. Arya's form shriveled as she tried to bring herself back up, only to struggle under the cracks of blue force lightning.
Ben, there friend. They had seen change within him but they never realized the cause. The Masters had lost faith in him long ago and directed there attention elsewhere and to other students. Yet somehow, he had grown stronger within the force.
The black sheep…The Jedi Outcast that was the weakest link had learned somehow to increase his strength. Utilizing the powers of the dark side and learned how to wield a blade on par with Rowan himself.
It had been years ever since that battle…ever since he made the masters and students watch as he brutalized the two of the greatest prodigies of the next generation of the Jedi. He could still see him, through his bruised eye.
The cracks of force lightning dying along his left hand. The hum of his duel bladed cyan lightsaber still ignited as the crowd instinctively made way for him. They would learn later, a couple of days after waking up in the medical bay that Ben had stolen a Starship and went to find the Revanchrist.
"That was an interesting time. The Mandalorian wars, a time of great passion and war during the time of the jedi order." Arya remarked. "Ben always did have an issue with controlling his emotions. He wanted to be a Jedi and I do believe that a part of him wanted to fight to save the innocents on the outer rim…but he savored for Mandalorian blood as well."
Rowan nodded along with her statement. Aiming his eyes back to the listening pair. "We do not know what happened out there during the war. Only, that the Jedi that had fought so valiantly for the sake of the innocent, and then turned against the republic…"
They could see it within their eyes, Katara and Jet. A stiff silence passing as the winds could be heard as they searched upon their faces. Arya and Rowan were simply one of many Jedi that had to deal with the war against the revived Sith Empire. They could remember it, the enclave on Dantooine being leveled.
The smoke, the ash…the fear. The echo it created within the force as the beautiful planet in which the force could be felt vibrant in it's long expanse of fields…was simply destroyed.
"Benjamin was one of them as well." Arya spoke. Her tone lacking any warmth or contempt for the young jedi as Jet and Katara noted this.
Rowan slowly nodding his head. "Yeah, he was young all right, but Ben always held powerful ties to the darkness. He was taller, stronger, and somehow, he learned how truly powerful he was too the force. Then, he came back and aimed it at the Jedi and the people we served…"
He took a deep breath, his teeth chattering as he gnarled his molars shut, clamping hard. He could still see it in the holovids back then. When Revan declared war on the Republic, he had all his dark jedi presented on his side.
Ben…he was so consumed back then that for a second, he looked inhuman. His once rich locks of black were now straight and gelled back like a snake, black veins shooting through his unnaturally pale skin that was once a rich bronze…his golden eyes now euphoric and poisonous, the ones of the True Lords of The Sith. His once comfortable Jedi robes were gone…now bearing a heavy black robe that featured armor crafted from outer rim metals. Yet, it was the lightsaber…how many of them there were.
That was when the horror truly began to stream through them. He didn't make them; they were simply trophies of the knights of the order that he had killed.
Jet snapped his head away. "Bullshit, I know that Ben had his issues and all that. But are you honestly going to expect me to believe that he turned on the innocent that he…"?
"Fool, do you honestly believe that we are lying!" Arya snapped. Her eyes dragging along Jet's frame as the boy was rendered mute. "He was a marauder…a warrior of the Sith that proved himself on numerous occasions in battle. He kept his enemy's weapons for god sake, I can still feel the darkness within him as well, can't you!"
Jet was stunned, reeling backwards as he took a heavy breath. Combing through his hair as he leaned against the wall. His body still ached but the argument helped to distract from the pain, but as he searched through the force…
She wasn't lying. His eyes widening at the realization as he had to grip the wall to keep himself steady. She was right, his master, he was…
"That is also the confusion that has been plaguing us the moment we learned of his existence here." Rowan spoke. Katara and Jet's eyes once again focusing on the Darkest Knight. "We didn't know what came of Ben and we simply just assumed that after Revan was killed, he joined Malak. Even with Malak, he would've needed a butcher and I doubt Ben back then would've cared about who he was following…"
"So, what's the question." Katara interrupted. She was getting annoyed; she didn't like talking to these dark jedi even if they were remnants of Ben's past. She knew he made mistakes; everyone has. Yet, she was smart enough to pick up on the way they were speaking.
She had seen Ben grow as a person. He stopped being a bum, walked the path of the Jedi knight and would eventually rebuild the order and stopped smoking…stopped partially smoking. Yet even she could hear the words coming from their mouth.
Years…years ago. Ben was maybe fifteen or sixteen years old and if this happened nearly a whole year ago. Then that would've made him around the ages of either thirteen or fourteen. She didn't know the situation and she would hear it from Ben's mouth…the boy that saved them, the boy that wished to save the world…the one that dedicated his duty to protecting the avatar and restoring balance.
The thoughts filled her with a powerful warmth. "What is your question…" She asked. A sly smirk over her face as the Sith simply let out a breath of hot air.
Yet, it happened. A brilliant boom erupted from their side. A brief wave traveling as the boat tilted and whirled. Rowan throwing himself forward as the chair cracked along the wooden wall. There blades ignited as they could feel the way the air grew tighter, the stream of force energy funneling through there vicinity.
They all knew who it was. Arya and Rowan staring back at the cell as the two captives smiled in amusement. He was here for them, along with their team!
The Marauder of The Sith…the Watchman of The Jedi Order, Benjamin had come for them. Moments were fast approaching, and the shifting threads of destiny were being impacted, moments were fast approaching that would change the world.
Ben's fingers tensed as they released an orb of force destruction. Breaking off the bridges and chains that kept the fire nation ship tethered to the dock. The chains rippling as they were pushed off, Appa roaring from the burst of harsh heat that rained from them.
He could see out of the corner of his eye Toph, Ty Lee, and Sokka putting in work on the fire nation soldiers. They would deal with the normal soldiers; he strained his eyes towards the ship as Aang reeled Appa downwards. The wind cutting along their face as they docked.
Ben slinking off of Appa's fur his blade in hand as he strained his perception forward. He locked onto the force, following the stream, the current it gave into him as he tried to see where they were. His mind's eye…
He could feel them, Jet and Katara. They were in the lower areas in the…
Yet, he felt something. A cool sliver coursing through him as he saw it out of the corner of his eyes. A stream of electricity coursing towards him. Gripping the blade with both hands as he chambered into a defensive position.
The volt was singular…catching and contorting along the dark azure blade as Ben pivoted his feet. Raising his weapon into the air as the volt discharged towards the sky. He could feel it, the difference.
He had fought against many users of force lightning and knew the difference between standard lightning and one imbued with the force. Staring at his blade as he raised his gaze. Seeing a strange figure, decked out in strange fire nation armor that differed from the similar army caste.
"Go!" Aang screamed. Yet, Ben was hesitant. Watching the flickering of electricity die along this woman's fingers. 'Could Aang truly…'
"What are you waiting for!" Aang snapped, Ben's thoughts breaking as he lurched back towards his friend. He could see it, the wisp of the air growing tighter as the water beckoned at his command. He couldn't help but smirk. '…I know Aang was a couple years younger than me, but when did I forget the power, he truly did wield. Maybe, I should just trust him.'
He nodded as he broke through the door leading into the bridge with a force augmented push. Throwing himself down the stairs as he felt the power within the force. Aang was the avatar, a being with great power within this world. Yet, he had believed before that all the weight should've been on him.
His mind's eye broadcasted all those people…those chains that kept him tethered to the light. Sokka was a warrior but smart, Katara was a great bendor, Ty Lee could nullify her opponents, Jet was a great Jedi…they were all these capable awesome people. Yet, he had grown to only rely on himself, because he believed there was truth in that.
Yet, he was broken out of his thoughts as he…
"It's been a while, Ben?"
The voice was older now…but he could still hear it, the past beckoning to him like a sick dog that wouldn't let him go. Strapped together like chains along his thigh that wouldn't give him up.
"Tressal…Shan?"
There faces, flashing along his own like the break crimson blaster fire. His golden eyes zoning in on the pair as he watched them. They were older, stronger, and…each held regrets that were willing to consume them.
Yet, Jet and Katara both watched from afar and a solemn truth was etched along his face. Ben's lips suddenly tightened into a smile at there sight but as he traced along their older faces and those crimson hilts…as he felt the weight they generated within the force.
Sorrow…and regret traveled along his face. His eyes narrowing as his lively face turned into a small scowl, averting their gaze as his fingers loosened along the grip of his weapon. That was when Jet and Katara both realized the truth…that the Sith Words rang true. And it…hurt them.
"It's Arya and Rowan now. We don't use our childhood nicknames anymore…Ben." Arya slowly spoke. Her eyes tracing along the last of the Jedi's face to find his answer, but he only generated a powerful echo of sadness.
In a strange way, it was heartbreaking. Three of what was meant to believe the next generation of future Jedi Knights…all strong and unique in their control of the force, they all were led down dark paths.
Ben falling due to trauma and war…but ultimately striving for redemption. Now Arya and Rowan were now on that dark path, believing that the dark side held truth and justice for the people of this world.
Ben rose his golden eyes once again at there figures. The Sith armor, the sheen of crimson blades…and the taint of the dark side that had warped their hearts. They couldn't embrace, they couldn't act like nothing has happened and recount the old times. This was simply him being a jedi, and they were Sith.
"So, you two both survived the war. I thought I was alone when I crashed upon this world." Ben's words rung and echoed. Yet, they didn't answer. "Why are you with the Sith?"
Arya lips tightened along her mouth. Her grip along the blade slowly loosening as Rowan took a side glance, he could feel her hesitation. This had to end, here and now…either convert their friend back to the dark side or end him.
"Because they hold truth in their words. They are advanced, they plan to heal the world after the war is over…and the Sith here are different from our universe." Rowan exclaimed. Raising his left arm towards Ben but…
"No, they aren't. These Sith here fight different but they still are…the fire nation and the Sith are evil and have wrecked great misery to this world." Ben's finger extended, aiming towards the direction towards the village as those bright orange flames clouded his mind. "There the same as before…your merely war lords now trying to conquer and destroy with the power of the dark side by your side."
"Don't give me that…" Rowan cracked. "Weren't we all warlords…weren't you a warlord?"
"Yeah, but there is a difference between me and you. I fell to the dark side because there was no other choice, you had a choice." Ben inched forward; his blade unignited as his old friends grips on there weapons simply tightened. "Listen, my past mistakes do not justify your current ones. You can't use me as an excuse for te things I've done int the past. The danger of such a mistake, is becoming what you once fought against…it was the same trap I fell into."
…and for a short second he could see it. The flash of light traveling through Arya's eyes, her heart hammering along her chest as she gazed at the two boys. Yet…both of there minds were already concluded.
One wished to follow the way of the Sith…While the other wished to walk the path of the jedi. They both felt that their sides held truth, and both were willing to give there all for the cause. "No, blood calls for blood. The other three nations fail to see the might we hold and the truth we bring, we can change the world and if you do not seek to realize this future…"
The wind passed through them, the harsh wind rippling through Ben's dark robes as their red scale armor bristled under the orange glow of the setting sun. "I shall not let this stand." Ben spoke, his lightsaber snapping to life as he gripped the weapon with both hands. The dark azure blade blanketing their features. "You two were once great jedi, but you have now given yourself to the dark side and side with evil."
Arya snapped herself from her stupor, gripping the weapon once again with both hands as she and Rowan already knew their answer. Her heart was concluded, or she wished it truly was. "…likewise, you now walk the path of the Jedi. Benjamin, please just realize what is going to come?" She pleaded.
"Enough, you have decided to walk the path of the Jedi. It is our duty as Sith Knights to cut down people like you." Hesitation funneled through his movements, but his shaking hand steadied as he raised the blade. "You will have a Jedi Funeral, Benjamin. That I promise…" Rowan growled, aiming his crimson blade in Ben's direction.
Old friends, family once. Yet, the question rang for all three of them. Did they all hold the heart to potentially…kill the other?
They stood there for what felt like eternity…the coarse winds rippling through there hair as Arya watched him. Her eyes narrowing, almost like she was about to fall asleep, her body aching as she didn't want to…
Rowan's sweat filled his brow, his eyes traveling along his friend's figure. He looked different than before, he was always quiet but the anger that was once in his movements…was gone, replaced with something else.
Then something happened…almost like a gong rupturing for a battle, the harsh allure of strength broadcasted for them. They all moved, and all Jet and Katara could do…was watch.
Ben's lightsaber blade flurried. His movements traveling as he released a flurry of attacks against the two Sith knights. Yet, it was different from before, his once harsh rage filled attacks felt…tempered.
Clashing along their crimson blades as…
Ben's hand shot forward. Tightening along Jet's blade as the weapon was ripped from Rowan's belt, the weapon ignited as it streamed into the cell as Jet yelped from the suddenness. Yet, it took him less than a minute to realize what his master had just done.
Sparking a smile along his face as Jet took the blade from the hull and it turned forward along the cell. In a matter of a couple of powerful slashes the bars of the cell were quickly crippeld.
Arya's fingers cracked with force lightning. Aiming it towards Ben as the blue stream of power traveled towards him, Ben lifted the weapon with both hands, nearly getting kicked off his feet from the torrent of blue lightning streaming towards him.
Rowan moved forward but Ben shot out his right hand, a mighty force push tossing Rowan away, but he quickly used the force to keep himself steady. Yet, he saw it through his minds eye. Quickly raising the long crimson blade as the sparks hissed in all directions.
"Now, Attack!" Jet screamed out, with a smile that plastered across his face. Breaking from the saber lock as he let out his own flurry of attacks. The cyan and crimson blade breaking along the other as both young Jedi, both dark and light let loose.
Yet, it had to end. Ben releasing a mighty blast of force energy, knocking the boat to the side as it struck the wall. Grabbing ahold of both Jet and Katara as they thrown themselves up the stairs. The two dark jedi reeled back onto there feet. Climbing up the stairs to catch them but…
They were already gone. There bison already in the sky as they had failed…no they hesitated in killing him. There lightsabers snapped off as it was enveloped back into their hilts. They had failed, losing their bait and their chance to kill the last of the jedi.
It took a couple more hours for Lord Ruin to come back to them after interrogating the head of the Beifong Family. Yet, he didn't care about the Jedi right now. He found out something better.
A girl, a fire nation girl of noble origin. Ty Lee was said to be her name had recently followed the avatar. How she seemed special, and maybe, they just found who they needed…
