24. Chapter 24: To the Dark One

Romeo Montague was not a man to show his emotions often. But when the assassin does so they are hard to hide especially in front of Mentor Claudius. A man he would be more than happy to call his father. But he couldn't tell him about the letter he was trying to put quill to parchment. Especially as it endangered his five-year old daughter.

Day by day she was showing signs of her true sight, something she must have inherited from himself. Claudius would see this, any child inside or outside the walls of Monteriggioni would be trained in the ways of the Brotherhood. Amelia would be no different.

The grief of losing his dearest wife weighted heavy on his mind and let the gentle rocking of the Jackdaw ease his mind. He had to protect his daughter no matter what. Therefore, he was writing to the one man that would be able to look out for her, if worse came to pass and he couldn't.

Even if he had to lie to her to do it:

To the Dark One known as Rumpelstiltskin,

I regret to inform you of the death of your eldest and only sister Juliet. She passes after a short illness. Juliet leaves behind our only child Amelia of five winters who is the mirror of her mother in spirit and looks.

The Brotherhood of Assassins and Dark One's are known for their animosity towards one another, but I beseech you as her family by blood and only known living family to protect her if anything were to happen to myself.

I plan to train her in the ways of the Brotherhood, for her protection against those who would seek to hurt her and for her own survival in this hard and often cruel world. I do not ever plan to tell her or anyone about your relation to each other.

Juliet will rest in peace on the outskirts of Monteriggioni on a hill where she will be able to see her daughter grow day by day. I will be counting the days until I can meet her in the afterlife, but for the present I will wake each day seeing my love and life in our only living child.
