Episode 6: In the Knicker of Time!
Mew and her friends continue on their journey to Rustboro City. But first, Mew and her Pokemon are having a Pokemon Battle against a male trainer and his Beedrill. Tomo, Jen, Molly, May, and Max watch with excitement.
The trainer calls out, "Beedrill, Twineedle!"
Beedrill darts in and the attack lands on Pikachu. Pikachu slides to a stop
Mew calls out, "Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!"
"Pika!" (Roger!) Pikachu calls out.
Pikachu fires the attack, taking Beedrill out of the air.
The trainer gasps and calls out, "Beedrill, come on, get up!"
Beedrill tries to get up, but ultimately collapses in defeat.
Brock announces, "Beedrill is unable to battle! Pikachu wins!"
"That was great, Pikachu!" Mew calls out.
"Pika Pika!" (Another win!) Pikachu happily says.
The trainer helps Beedrill up, "Good work, Beedrill."
Mew walks over, "Hey, how's Beedrill doing?"
"Pikachu?" (You okay?) Pikachu asks.
"Just fine," The trainer says, " And I want to thank you for such an incredible battle, Ashley. Put 'er there."
Both trainers shake hands
"I should be thanking you," Mew says.
"Hope we get to battle again sometime," The trainer says.
"Me too," Mew says.
Amazed, Max says, "That battle was totally awesome! Wasn't it, May?"
"Yeah!" May says.
Shortly after, the group walk along the forest,
"Two trainers ending their battle with a warm handshake. Now, that's true sportsmanship."
"Well, that's what Pokémon battling is really all about, friendship between Trainers," Brock says.
"That's for sure," Mew says, "If you're not out making friends, what's the point?"
"I guess I can see that, but you're wasting a lot of energy in your battling, Mew," Max says.
"Huh?" Mew says, confused.
"Take the attack you just used. If you'd used Quick Attack, you would've avoided Twineedle," Max says.
"Maybe, but sometimes it's best not to charge in right away. Otherwise the opponent might have an advantage or you'll end up using your energy too soon," Mew says.
"Mew is right, Max," Molly says.
Jen says, "They have a point. Also, there are some Pokemon that can be stronger against those who they're weak against, so it's good to keep that in mind."
Max blushes a bit and says, "Um really now."
"Yep," Jen says.
Suddenly, Amaurua calls out, "Amaura!" (Jen look!)
"Huh?" Max and Jen reply confused.
Everyone gasps as they see two silhouettes of Pokémon running out of the bushes.
It's a raccoon dog-like, quadrupedal Pokémon with bristly, zigzag-patterned fur. It has stripes formed by alternating layers of cream and brown fur. It has a brown head with spiky ears and a black nose. A black mask-like pattern surrounds its brown eyes. The upper half of its mouth is jagged, and when it is open, there are two pointed teeth in its lower jaw. Its feet have three claws and pink paw pads. Its fore feet are cream-colored, but the hind feet are brown. Its brush tail is spiky and bristly.
The other looks similar, but it has black-and-white fur. Its red eyes are surrounded by a black spiked mask-like pattern somewhat resembling stars. Its fore feet are black with white claws, while its hind feet are white with black claws. It has a long pink tongue that is constantly hanging outside of its mouth, between its lower teeth.
"And what's that?" May asks.
"A Zigzagoon!" Max says.
"Cool," Mew says.
"Actually there's two of them," Jen says.
"But it's a different color," Tomo says.
The Zigzagoon kept running from bush to bush.
"Awesome! I never knew that wild Zigzagoon could get so big or come in different colors!" Max says.
"Hmm? What do you mean, Max?
"The average Zigzagoon is only 16 inches tall and weighs only 8 pounds," Max says.
"Max is right. This one is larger than a normal sized Zigzagoon. What's more, the other one has black and white fur and red eyes. A normal one has brown and cream fur, Mew says.
"Well, I'm sure there are a number of reasons for that, like what Zigzagoon eats," Brock says.
The group soon sees a a lot more Zigzagoon
"Look at that. There's about a zillion more of 'em," Mays says.
"Wow!" Molly says.
"But they're much smaller, like normal," Mew says and checks his Pokédex.
Soon, Dextette says, "Zigzagoon, the Tiny Raccoon Pokémon. A Normal Type. Zigzagoon is extremely curious and ends up walking in a zigzag path between things that interest it."
Tomo looks over, "And look, there's the other one from before."
The group looks to see the black and white Zigzagoon sitting on a rock.
Mew points her Pokedex to the other Zigzagoon.
Dextette says, "Zigzagoon, the Tiny Raccoon Pokemon. Galarian Form. A Normal and Dark Type. Its restlessness has it constantly running around. If it sees another Pokémon, it will purposely run into them in order to start a fight."
"Wow. So that means this Zigzagoon is from the Galar Region. It's rare to see one of those here," Max says.
All the Zigzagoon murmured curiously while a Sentret came out of the bush while also looking up at some Pinsir up in the trees.
"Hey, look. Those Zigzagoon are interested in that Sentret and the Pinsir," Jen says.
Suddenly, someone sneaks up behind the Zigzagoon in a costume to look like one.
A person calls out, "Okay!"
"Huh?" Everyone replies confused.
Everyone quickly gets startled by the stranger removing the Zigzagoon costume to reveal a boy with green hair, wearing a yellow shirt, a red bandana, blue short, purple shoes, and carrying a large backpack.
"It disguised itself as a human!" May cries out.
Max turns to his sister, "You want to take another whack at that one, sis? 'Cause it really is a human!"
"I didn't know Zigzagoon could evolve into humans," May says.
Then Max questions, "Are we really related?"
"Come on May, that's silly," Mew says.
"Yeah. It's just a boy in a costume," Jen says.
The boy says, "Okay, Zigzagoon, time for you and I to do some battling. Mudkip, I choose..."
However, Max and May get a closer look before the stranger can throw his Pokéball.
"See?" Max says.
"Huh?" The boy says, confused.
"100% genuine human," Max says.
"I need a closer look," May says, and grabs the trainer's face, "Guess you're right. He may be a little suspicious-looking but he's definitely all human."
During the distraction, the Zigzagoon leaves.
"Huh?" The boy says, and sees the Zigzagoon leaving. He calls out, "Wait! Zigzagoon, come back!"
But it was too late, the Zigzagoon had already gone.
The boy groans in frustration, "Thank you! This is all your fault that I wasn't able to catch that Zigzagoon! What's your problem?! Huh?" And looks down at May and Max's pants, "Hey! You guys are wearing knickers too! That's so cool! You're the same as me!"
"What?" May and Max say, confused.
"What do you mean they're the same as you?" Tomo says, confused.
"Knickers?" Molly says, confused.
"Who are you, anyway?" May asks.
"What's my name? Truthfully I have many names," The boy says and puts on his Zigzagoon costume, "Like this one! At times I'm a Zigzagoon wandering the forest," and takes off the costume, "At other times, I'm a Tentacruel,..." and puts on a Tentacruel costume, "Riding the ocean waves! Whee!" And puts on a Bellosom costume, "And other times, I'm a dancing Bellosom. But if you want to know what my true identity is... Well, I am Nicholai, Nicholai the Knickerbocker!"
"Uh…" Everyone says, confused.
"Okay. What's a Knickerbocker?" Mew says, confused.
"No idea," Jen says.
"Yeah, I give," May says.
The boy, Nicholai says, "That's the name for Naturalist Trainers like myself. We thrive on communing with nature while exposing our knees." And says to May and Max, "And obviously you're Knickerbockers too," then notices Mew, Tomo, and Jen, "And you're all one as well! That's awesome! So tell me, what are your names, you guys?
"Uh, well, my name is May," May says, skeptic.
"And my name is Max," Max says.
Mew says, "And my name's Ashely. I'm from Pallet Town."
"I'm Tomo," Tomo says.
"I'm Jen," Jen says.
"And I'm Molly," Molly says.
"So that just leaves me. My name is Brock," Brock says.
"It's really nice to meet you, everyone," Nicholai says.
Then says to Mew, Tomo, Jen, May, and Max, "Yes. Those are five very worthy names for Knickerbockers."
May then says annoyed, "Uh, excuse me. Listen, we are not wearing knickers; these are plain old shorts."
"I don't think I want to be called a bocker," May says.
"Now, now. Calm down," Nicholai says, "There's no use getting your knickers in a bundle," and laughs.
May and Max groan in annoyance.
Looking at the costume, Brock asks, "So tell us, why were you dressed in that Zigzagoon suit?"
"I guess you still don't get it," Nicholai says, "I wear it to become one with Pokémon and to learn their inner feelings. As soon as I know exactly the way they're thinking, it's easy to capture them."
"Really?" Mew asks, taking an interest, "You do that to catch Pokémon?"
"Yeah, I want to challenge the Petalburg Gym Leader. But first I want to catch a Zigzagoon. They live right here in this forest," Nicholai says.
"Petalburg Gym, huh?" May says.
"Then you're gonna be battling our dad," Then Max says.
"Your dad?" Nicholai says.
"Their dad's the gym leader at the Petalburg gym, so that's who you'll be up against," Jwn says.
"Skwovet Skwov," (Him and Vigoroth.) Skwovet says.
Nicholai is surprised, "You're kidding me. Hey, I have an idea," Then says to May and Max, "Let me battle the two of you."
"Huh?" May and Max say, confused.
Nicholai then says, "If you two are the children of a real gym leader, then I'm sure battling you guys would be great practice for me. Besides that, I'd like to check out your skills as trainers."
"Maybe you should go check out something else," May says.
But Max says, "Don't be modest! Show 'em, May! You're the daughter of the gym leader of the Petalburg gym, so go show him what you can do!"
May quickly panics.
"Then that settles that," Nicholai says "There's a field right up ahead. I can't wait to battle, so come on, then. Let's go!" and walks towards said field.
May panics, "Wait a minute, Nicholai! I don't think I'll be able to…"
"What's wrong, May? Don't tell me you're afraid to battle with me," Nicholai questions.
This makes May offended, "Me? Afraid? Okay, I accept your challenge!"
Soon, the others grow worried.
"May, are you sure about this? May is still new to this," Mew asks, worried.
"Yeah, it'll be a good experience for her," Brock says.
"Maybe," Jen says.
Soon, both trainers are on the field, ready for battle.
May says in her thoughts, "Okay, here I am in my first battle."
Nicholai holds out his Pokeball, "Ready? Here goes!"
"Too bad it has to be against someone who's a weirdo," May adds in thought, sweat drops.
Mew calls out, "Hey, May! Try thinking about the battle, okay?!"
Then Brock announces, "Each trainer will use one Pokemon! The battle will be over when either one is unable to continue!"
"Okay!" Nicholai and May say.
Then Nicholai calls out his Pokemon, "Mudkip, let's go!"
And Mudkip comes out.
"Cool! A Mudkip!" Mew says, holding out her Pokedex.
"Eevee!" (Awesome!)
Dexette says, "Mudkip, the Mud Fish Pokemon. A Water Type. Mudkip uses the sensitive fin on its head to take radar readings of its surroundings.
"Ready?! Mudkip, change!" Nicholai says, and changes into a Mudkip costume and yells.
Everyone becomes baffled.
Brock turns to May, "Choose your Pokemon, May!"
"Oh, right!" May says and calls out to her Pokemon, "Now, Torchic, I choose you!"
"Torchic?!" Nicholai responds, "She's going to use a fire Pokemon against Mudkip, a water Pokemon?!
Max says in concern, "Uh oh. Wouldn't you know, her first opponent's gotta have a water Pokemon!"
"Yeah. Unless May has a good strategy, it's going to be hard for Torchic to battle Mudkip," Mew says.
Then Brock announces, "And now, begin!"
May then calls out, "Torchic, start attacking!"
However, Torchic doesn't do anything.
"What are you waiting for, Torchic?! Let's go!" May calls out.
Mew calls out, "May, you have to tell Torchic what attack to use.
"Oh... Uh, that's right. An attack," May says, and thinks a bit, "Uh, yeah, I got it! Torchic, Ember!"
But Nicholai calls out, "Mudkip, Water Gun! Let's go!"
Both attacks fire, but Mudkip's attack extinguishes Torchic's.
"Good! Now let's give him a taste of your Peck attack!" May calls out.
Torchic charges in
"Agh! Whatever you do, don't attack it from straight on!" Max calls out.
Then Nicholai calls out, "Okay, Mudkip, Water Gun attack!"
Mudkip fires the attack, sending Torchic back forcefully.
"Uh oh!" Mew, Tomo, Jen, and the Pokemon respond.
Torchic soon hits the ground.
May calls out, Torchic, please get up! Please, Torchic!"
Torchic tries to get up, but ultimately collapses.
"Torchic!" May cries out.
Brock announces, "Torchic is unable to battle! Mudkip is the winner!"
"Kip!" (Yeah!) Mudkip cheers.
"We did it!" Nicholai happily says.
"Oh, Torchic. I am so sorry," May says.
The rest of the gang approaches.
"Torchic okay?" Max asks.
"It's fine. All Torchic needs is a good, long rest," Brock says.
Suddenly, Nicholai says, "Unreal! Who knew a gym leader's daughter would be so bad? I'll bet getting a badge at the Petalburg gym will be a piece of cake."
"Mud Mudkip." (Seems like it.) Mudkip says.
This makes Max angry, "Take that back!"
"But first, I have to catch a Zigzagoon. Then once I bag that little creature, getting my badge will be a walk in the park," Nicholai says.
"Mudkip." (Indeed.) Mudkip says.
Nicholai says, "So long, my five fellow knickerbockers!"
"Mudkip!" (See ya!) Mudkip says.
Nicholai walks away while Max seethes with anger
Little did Nicholai know that, as he walked, he was being watched by Team Rocket.
"Is that a Mudkip?" Jessie asks.
"Indeed it is. And behind that cute exterior lies a battling brute. We could do a lot worse than to cage one of them, believe me!" James says.
Then Meowth says, "You know what'd happen if we brought da boss one of dem babies? We'd climb da corporate ladder so fast, we'd get rung boins!
"Right," Jessie replies, "Stop the lip flap and start Operation: Mudkip Capture!"
"Yeah!" James and Meowth reply.
"Wobbuffet!" (Let's begin!) Wobbuffet says.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others walk on as May sulks about the outcome of her first battle.
May sighs, "My first battle and it ends in defeat. And losing to a goofball like him? Humiliating."
"Forget about it. Remember, May, you're just beginning and also, your Pokemon was at a disadvantage," Brock says.
"And with a little more experience, things will get much better. You'll see, May," Mew says.
"Don't worry about that weirdo," Tomo says.
The Pokemon agree.
However, May is still upset at Nicholai, "Knickerbockers. Naturalists. What is wrong with that guy? He makes me so mad I can't wait till dad pounds on him!"
"I know you're still upset about what he said to you and about your dad. However, it's just his style. And everyone is different. I'm sure once you get better you'll find your battle style."
"Well, all the same, I hope dad shows him a thing or two! Right, Max?" May says.
However, there's no answer, prompting everyone to stop.
"What's wrong, May?" Molly asks.
May soon notices, "Max is gone! Max?"
"What?" Brock says, shocked.
Jen looks around, "Where did Max go?"
Meanwhile…
"Pokemon, change!" Nicholai says, and changes into his Zigzagoon costume, yells like Tarzan and runs off.
But little did Nicholai know that Max was following him.
"No one makes fun of my dad and gets away with it," Max angrily says.
Nicholai throws something to the left and right sides of the road
"Look at that!" Max says, spots that the objects are berries, "Zigzagoon love that fruit more than anything! I know! He's using that fruit to get the Zigzagoon to come out!"
Max hides behind the tree once more.
Meanwhile, Mew and the others search for Max, Jen, and Amaura.
May calls out, "Max!"
"Max!" Jen calls out.
"Answer if you're out there!" Brock calls out.
Even the Pokemon call out to find the others.
"I don't see how he could've gotten too far away," Tomo says.
"I guess, but why can't he hear us?" Molly says.
Then Mew has an idea, "Hey, I've got an idea! Taillow can search from the sky!"
Meanwhile, Max is seen to have gathered up some of the same berries Nicholai had.
"All this fruit ought to attract every Zigzagoon in the whole forest! And that Knickerbocker won't catch a single one!" Max says. He then calls out, "Come on out, Zigzagoon! I've got yummy fruit! Zigzagoon!"
Little did Max know that there were some Zigzagoon following him.
"Guess it won't be long now," Max says.
Max suddenly comes to a stop when he sees a whole nursery of hungry Zigzagoon, causing him to worry. Meanwhile, Taillow seems to have spotted something and head towards it)
"Taillow spotted something!" Mew says.
"It's Max! It's gotta be him!" May says.
"Better hurry!" Brock says.
Everyone speeds up as Max continues to worry about his situation.
"What a mess! I didn't realize there were so many of these things," Max panics before crying out, "Help!"
The Zigzagoon pounce.
Max cries out, "HELP!"
Taillow soon flies over him as Mew and the others show up.
Max cries out, "Hey!"
"Max!" The group cries out.
"What's going on?" Mew calls out.
Max cries out, "All the Zigzagoon really want are these," and shows them the fruit, "They just want to eat all of the fruit that I brought em?"
"This is a problem," Jen says.
Mew calls out, "Hey, stop! You're ganging up on the boy! Stop!"
"Stop!" May cries out.
"You're gonna trample him!" Jen calls out.
Just then, a black and white Zigzagoon comes out of the dogpile with Max in tow by his shirt.
"Max!" May says, worried.
"Are you okay?" Jen asks.
"I'm okay," Max says.
Soon, the Galarian Zigzagoon comes up to Max, "Zig Zigzagoon?" (Are you alright?)
"That Zigzagoon is asking if you're okay," Tomo translates.
"I'm okay," Max says and pat the Zigzagoon, "Thank you for saving me."
Galarian Zigzaggoon says, "Zig Zig." (You're welcome.)
Soon, the herd Zigzagoon approaches and surrounds the group.
"Um, why are they staring at us?" Molly asks.
"They look kind of hungry," May says.
"I think they thought we still have some fruit and want some," Brock says.
Mew says, "Sorry about that, but we don't have more fruits with us."
However, the Racoon Pokemon group approach them.
"I don't think they're listening," Max says, worried.
Just then, "Zagoon!"
Nicholai suddenly stands between the group and some of the Zigzagoon
"Zagoon!" Nicholai says.
"Mudkip!" Mudkip says.
Nicholai, Mudkip!" Mew says, surprised.
Nicholai, attempting to communicate with the Zigzagoon, leads them away from Mew and the others.
"The Zigzagoon are following Nicholai," Jen says.
"Let's find out why," May says.
Everyone follows Nicholai and the nursery of Zigzagoon until they come to a fruit tree bearing the same fruit Max had. Upon arrival, Nicholai rams into the tree, causing some of the fruit to fall.
Nicholai calls out, "Now, Mudkip, Water Gun!"
Mudkip fires the attack at the trees in front, to the left and behind it, causing more fruit to fall, allowing all the Zigzagoon to eat.
"Yes! Nicholai cheers.
"Mudkip Mud!" (That was close!) Mudkip says.
May's voice appears, "Look, they're all eating the fruit!"
Nicholai looks towards the group.
"Well, that should make them a lot happier," Brock says and laughs.
"Yeah. Thanks, Nicholai. You really helped us out," Mew says.
"Yeah, thanks for saving us," Tomo says.
"Think nothing of it," Nicholai says, "We all need help sometimes, and us Knickerbockers have to stick together. You know what I mean?" and winks, "Right?"
Then Maz approaches Nicholoai, "Nicholai? I owe you an apology."
"Huh?" Nicholai says, confused.
We see Pikachu, Mudkip, and the others chattering with the Zigzagoon.
Nicholai laughs, "So you were the one with the fruit."
"I feel awful. Sorry," Max apologizes.
But Nicholai says, "Forget it. I should be apologizing to you. I shouldn't have said the things I said before."
"Okay," Max says.
Then the Galarian Zigzagoon climbs up Max's head, causing him to laugh.
"And it looks like you've made a new friend," Nichoilai says.
Max laughs, "Yeah. I guess I did."
"Zigzagoon," (That's right.) Galarian Zigzagoon says.
Then Max asks, "Can I ask a question?"
"Huh?" Nicholai says, confused.
Then Max asks, "Where did you learn to speak Zigzagoon so well? I haven't seen anything about it in any of my books. I haven't even come up with an explanation as to why Azusa can translate what Pokemon are saying."
But Nicholai says, "You don't need to use words to communicate with Pokemon, Max."
"Huh?" Maz replies, confused.
Nicholai places his hand on his heart and says, "You just have to say what's in here."
"He's right. Say what's in your heart," Brock says.
"Let me see. We have to learn these crazy attacks while speaking with our hearts?" May replies.
"That's right," Mew says.
Maz soon understands, "Then the Pokémon will understand what we say!"
"Right. I'll show you what I mean," Nicholai says.
"Wha..?" Max replies, confused.
Then Nicholai calls out, "You, Zigzagoon, there. Why don't you have a battle with us?"
"Mudkip!" (Let's go!) Mudkip says.
A Zigzagoon says, "Zagoon!" (I accept.)
"He says yes," Mew says.
Nicholai says, "Alright! Pokemon,..." and changes into a Mudkip costume "...change!" Then calls out the attack, "Now Mudkip, Water Gun!"
Mudkip fires the attack, but Zigzagoon dodges by running in a zig-zag motion, easily landing a Tackle while doing so. Mudkip soon came to a stop.
"Don't you give in, Mudkip!" Nicholai calls out.
"Mudkip! Mud! ("I won't! Ha!") Mudkip replies.
Zigzagoon began to try landing another Tackle, only for Mudkip to dodge each attack.
"That Mudkip and Zigzagoon are amazing!" May says.
Max calls out, "Keep it up, you guys!"
"Yeah, keep it up!" Tomo says.
"You can do it!" Jen calls out
Mudkip jumps up to avoid another Tackle
"Are you ready, Mudkip?" Nicholai asks, and calls out the attack, "Water Gun, now!"
Mudkip fires the attack, sending Zigzagoon flying.
Nicholai then throws the pokeball, "Pokéball, let's go!" and tosses the Pokéball.
The Pokéball hits Zigzagoon and pulls Zigzagoon in on the way down. After a bit of wobbling, the Pokéball finally pings.
Nicholai cheers, "Yes! I caught me a Zigzagoon!"
"Mudkip!" (Success!) Mudkip replies.
But right as Mudkip spoke, a claw came down and grabbed it.
Mudkip yelps, "Kip!" (Hey!)
That also catches Nicholai off guard, "Huh?"
"Your Mudkip!" Molly calls out.
Everyone looks up and sees just who was responsible, and it's Team Rocket in their hot air balloon.
"I'm sorry. Whose Mudkip did you say it was?" Jessie says.
Nicholai confronts them, "Hey! Who do you think you are?!"
And with that, Team Rocket performs their motto.
Jessie:
Prepare for trouble. I know who I am.
James:
And make it double with your Knickerbocker scam.
Jessie:
To protect the world from devastation.
James:
To unite all peoples within our nation.
Jessie:
To denounce the evil of truth and love.
James:
To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie:
Jessie.
James:
James.
Jessie:
Team Rocket blasts off at the speed of light.
James:
Surrender now with your exposed knees, or prepare to fight.
Meowth:
Meowth! Dat's right!
Wobbuffet:
Wobbuffet! (End of scene!)
"Team Rocket!" Mew shouts.
Mudkip cries out, "Mudkip!" (Help me!)
Nicholai calls out, "Hey! Give me back my Mudkip!"
"Not today," Jessie says.
"I wear full-length pants, but I'm still a naturalist. I'm just naturally dishonest," James says.
And Meowth says, "An' even dough I ain't wearin' no pants at all, I'm a natural thief!" He then laughs as he brings up Mudkip.
Mudkip cries out, "Mud!" (Hey!)
"Pikachu, Eevee, Thunderbolt 'em now!" Mew calls out.
Both Pikachu and Eevee fire the attack.
But James says, "Back, at ya!"
A satellite soon appears from underneath the balloon, absorbing the electricity and firing it as a beam right back down to the ground.
"What?!" Mew exclaims.
Jessie questions in remark, "How's that feel?"
"The shock's on you this time," James says.
"It was a warning shot," James says.
"At least dey're keepin' up wit current events," Meowth says.
Mudkip cries out, "Mudkip!" (Nicholai!)
Team Rocket calls out, "Later!"
"Not so fast!" Nicholai says, "Pokémon…" And changes into an Aipom costume, "Change!" runs after them on all fours, "Aipom!"
Nicholai proceeds up a nearby mountain on all fours, "Aipom! Aipom! Aipom! Don't worry, Mudkip! I'm coming!"
As Nicholai runs up the mountain, the Zigzagoon become inspired and start digging right in front of the gang, even the Galarian Zigzagoon is helping.
"What do you think those Zigzagoon are trying to do?" May asks.
"They understand how Nichoali feels, and I think they want to help Mudkip, too," Brock says.
"Wow! Amazing! I get it now!" Max says.
Meanwhile, Nicholai continues going after Team Rocket. "Aipom! Aipom! Aipom! Pokémon, change!" and changes into a Gligar costume, "Gligar! Jump!"
Nicholai glides down towards the balloon, catching Team Rocket's attention before snatching Mudkip away.
"You're safe now, Mudkip," Nicholai says. Are you okay?
"Mud!" (Great!) Mudkip answers.
Team Rocket cries out, "No fair! Give us back our Mudkip!"
"No way!" Mew says and calls out, "Alright, Taillow, use Peck attack!"
Taillow comes out and makes a hole in the balloon, sending Team Rocket crashing to the ground and into a hole surrounded by a nursery of angry Zigzagoon
"It's a pitfall trap," May says.
"Uh huh. That's what the Zigzagoon were doing before using Dig," Max says.
Galarian walks to Max and nods, "Zigzag," (That's right.)
Jessie angrily says, "Hold it! I'll have you know that we hold the copyright on pitfall traps, young man!"
"And you're looking at a lawsuit!" James says.
"Criminals!" Meowth says.
Team Rocket proceeds to climb out of the pit.
"Remind me to call my lawyer," Jessie says.
Soon, Mew, Pikachu, and Eevee approach.
Team Rocket, you're not going anywhere!" Mew says.
"Eevee Eevee!" (You'll be facing us, now!)) Eevee says.
"Pika Pika!" (So stand and fight us!) Pikachu says.
And Taillow says, "Taillow!" (Bring it!)
"Just watch us," Jessie says and calls out her Pokemon, "Arbok, let's go!"
James does the same, "Weezing, you, too!"
Both Pokemon come out of the Pokeballs and are ready to battle.
Jessie calls out, "Okay, Arbok, Poison Sting!"
"Weezing, give them a little Sludge attack!" James calls out.
Mew calls out, "Now, Pikachu, Eevee, Double Quick Attack!
Pikachu and Eevee dart in fast enough to avoid the oncoming attacks before nailing both Pokemon at once and sending them flying into Team Rocket as Nicholai and Mudkip show up.
"Now, Thunder attack, go!" Mew calls out.
Both Pikachu and Eevee perform Thunderbolt and send Team Rocket flying.
Team Rocket cries out, "Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!"
"Wobbuffet! ("I hate this!") Wobbuffet cries out.
May and Max cheers, "Yay! We did it! Yeah! We did it!"
"Looks like everything's okay again," Brock says.
"Yep," Mew says.
Nicholai approaches Mew, "Ashley! That sure was some pretty slick battling. "
"Mud," (Yeah.) Mudkip says.
"Thanks, Nicholai," Mew says, "And I wish you luck in your gym battle, but just be aware that Norman's Pokemon is tough.
"Really? Maybe it won't be so easy after all," Nicholai says.
"That's right," May says.
"My sister's pretty lame, but my dad is tough stuff," Max says.
May laughs sheepishly.
"I see. Well, in that case," Nicholai says, and turns to Mew, "How would you like to have a battle with me, Mew?"
"You bet. I was hoping you'd ask," Mew says.
Later, both trainers are in place.
Nicholai soon calls out, "Pokémon, change!" and changes into his Zigzagoon costume, "Let's make a great first battle, Zigzagoon! Let's go!"
Zigzagoon charges in.
"It's our first battle, too, Taillow, so let's do it!" Mew says.
Taillow zooms in.
Nicholai calls out, "Zigzagoon, use Dig, now!" He rethinks his plan, "Uh... Tackle!"
Zigzagoon continues to charge in.
"Now, Taillow, climb quickly!" Mew calls out.
Taillow soars upward before coming back down nearly within striking range of Zigzagoon as the rest of the gang watch.
Max says, "How cool! Since they're both fighting with new Pokémon, it's almost like those guys are having a battle for the very first time ever, huh?"
"Guess that means everyone still has a lot to learn, right?" May says.
Everyone agrees.
Soon, Galarian Zigzagoon climbs on Max's head.
May giggles, "Seems like this Zigzagoon really likes you."
"Yeah," Max says. He then asks the Pokemon, "Hey Zigzagoon, you wanna be my pokemon?"
"Zigzagoon!" (Sure do!) Galarian Zigzagoon says, and gives Max licks on his cheek causing the boy to laugh.
Tomo says, "That means he's happy to be part of the group."
"As each battle ends, new friendships are made, and this battle is no exception. And with Max having his first Pokemon friend, he is starting to learn ways of becoming a Pokemont trainer. And as the gang continue their journey toward Mew entry into the Hoenn League, they will surely be making new friends, while parting ways with others along the way, and sharing new experiences all around.
