Stables outside Ye Olde Spider Bar, and Inn
"So that's it," said the red-haired elf woman.
"I see that's horrible so they just sacked your home and sold you like cattle?" Isabella said, tears leaking from the corners of her eyes.
"Yes the Theocracy has been at war with our nation for a long time now and they use the profits they make from selling the elves they captured into slavery to help fund it," the red-haired elf nodded and held back tears.
"And that's when that man bought you I take it," Isabella asked.
"Yes he uses us in his job as a worker," the red-haired elf explained.
"What's a worker is it some kind of adventurer," Isabella asked, tilting her head in confusion whipping her eyes.
"A worker is a job similar to an adventurer but instead of going through the adventurers league they take jobs on their own," the red-haired elf explained.
"But why do that after all the adventurers league provides some legal protections to its members," Isabella asked.
"True workers don't get the same protections members of the adventurers league would but because they aren't part of it they are free to engage in less than legal actions so the job often pays much better," the red-haired elf explained.
"So why is he here in the first place," asked Isabella, eyes narrowing.
At hearing her word the three elves pursed their lips and refused to look the celestial in the eyes. "I only asked out of consideration I can always just read your mind," Isabella pressed steel in her voice.
"You don't understand what our master will do to you if he finds out we told you he might kill us all," the blonde-haired elf blurted out.
The celestial laughed in response, causing the three elves to raise their eyebrows in surprise "Well you certainly aren't afraid of death," the blonde-haired elf replied brow raised in surprise.
"Forgive me I sometimes forget people most people assume I'm human so let me reintroduce myself," she said growing in size form shifting like molded clay after a moment of this the couatl lay before them in its true form long slender snake-like body with shiny greenish-blue scales and large reddish pink feathery wings the light of the moon and the stars reflecting off its scales. "I am a Couatl, a celestial bound to this plane by the great sorcerer Theren Starflower of Evermeet," the Couatl spoke with a stern but warm feminine voice.
The three elven women stood in shock at the sudden transformation, eyes wide the blue-haired elf slowly reach out and touched the scales of the creature feeling the warm smooth surface as if she was sure it couldn't be real "Beautiful," she whispered.
"I-I don't understand why would a creature like you be working as a maid," The blonde-haired elf stammered out.
"I was placed in this position by my master so I could keep a look out for those that seek to harm my master and those under his protection. I also have full authority to arrest those guilty of breaking the laws of his domain to tell me why is that man here?" Asked the celestial.
"And let's say we tell you what happens to us?" the red-haired elf asked eyes narrowing.
"While I can't say for certain it's likely you would be set free as lord of this land Duke Theren has the right to confiscate lands and property of criminals as punishment and as that man's property Theren could have you be given him as punishment. He would likely set you free after that and even offer you a ride home," the celestial said.
"Fine but we want to meet this Lord Theren first," said the red-haired elf.
"Very well I will call some of Lord Therens peacekeepers to pick you up I will go deal with your master," the celestial said transforming back into human form.
Taking out a sending stone from one of the inner pockets of her uniform and used it to send a quick telepathic message(I have three women in the stables outside the local inn and a suspected criminal that need transport to the fortress send a few peacekeepers to pick them up,).
Within minutes of sending this message the roars of dragons and flapping of wings were heard as three silver dragons came flying into view they landed in front of the stables kicking up dust as they landed the great beastes lowering their heads for their rides to dismount. Three Angelic women clad in polished plate armor long swords in hand.
Isabell called out to them "Ah yes I'm the one that called, these women who claimed to have information on a potential criminal who is inside we are to escort all of them to the castle for questioning,".
One of the three angels came forward in response armor clattering as she walked "bring me to them," the lead angel replied with a stern voice filled with authority.
"Gladly," Isabella said with a smile.
Erya Uzruth's Room, Ye Olde Spider Bar, and Inn
It was the dead of night the flickering of a single solitary candle illuminated the room the candle sat on a simple wooden nightstand near a bed. In the bed, a handsome blonde man lay asleep. Then a loud knocking sound was heard causing him to stir he turn to the side grimacing trying to ignore the sound but the noise only grew increasingly louder forcing him awake (someone better be dying) he thought brow furrowed in annoyance. "WHAT," he shouted swinging the door open.
Immediately upon opening the door a tall woman in plate armor with white feathery wings stepped into his room. "I'm sorry to disturb your sleep sir but are you Erya Uzruth," the winged woman asked.
"Yes why," Erya asked a trace of nervousness making its way into his voice.
"I'm a peacekeeper in the service of Duke Theren Starflower lord of this region I need you to come with me to the fortress," the wing woman replied in a tone that left no room for argument.
"Lead the way," Erya said with a sigh.
The man followed the strange woman now in the inn hallway worry filling his mind the sound of creaking wooden floorboards and the clattering of plate armor being the only thing that could be heard. As they made their way out toward the stables Erya spoke "so am I being charged with anything or what,".
"Not at the moment but we do need you to come with us for questioning," the winging woman replied.
"I see the-... why are those slaves coming," Erya nearly shouted pointing at the three elven women sitting on the back of one of the dragons.
"They have information relevant to this case," the winged woman replied cooly eyes narrowing.
"Yo-you damned slaves think you can betray me I OWN YOU SHUKUCHI KAI," Erya shouted in rage while launching himself at high speed at the three swords drawn and prepared to strike. With great speed, he reached them in less than a second and brought his sword down.
He smirked eager to see the three that had betrayed him dead. Then his movement stopped cold his vision went white with pain and he was sent flying via a casual tail swipe from the dragon the three elves were sitting on. His body bounced and skidded across the ground before rolling to a stop. On shaky legs, he pulled himself to his feet. He could taste iron filling his mouth and spat the blood out. It landed on the ground with a plop a tooth coming with it.
Determined and filled with rage he began to raise his sword before stepping back in surprise courtesy of a long sword being aimed at his head. The angel from before stood in front of him, she and her two sisters surrounding him swords aglow with holy light illuminating the clearing as if it were mid-day. Sword raised his eyes and glanced back and forth he was surrounded on all sides by the strange winged warriors each sword glowing with magic and light. In the distance, he could see their dragon mounts also moving to surround him. The dragon's silver scales reflected the light of their master's swords jaws filled with razor-sharp teeth opened wide and a deep rumbling growling sound filled the clearing as the great beasts made their displeasure known.
"Throw down your blade and surrounder or die where you stand," the lead angel demanded cold narrowed eyes filled with the promise of death should he refuse.
"I-I… fine damn it," Erya said his sword falling to the ground with a clatter.
The moment it did the angels were on him tackling him to the ground one angel sat on his back holding his hands in place while another pulled steel manacles from her dragon's saddle bags the feeling of cold steel was felt as the steel cuffs snapped shut.
"We were just going to take you in for questioning but now you're under arrest for drawing your weapon in public and resisting the orders of an official peacekeeper way to go," said the lead angel with annoyance dragging the man toward her dragon all the while the three elven women sitting on the back of a dragon nearby began to giggle a smile breaking out onto their faces.
The Fortress, Theren's POV
In his personal quarters, Theren sat at a desk in his room his fingers raping across the varnished wooden surface. The sound of his fingers tapping the desk and the roar of his fireplace filled the room as he stared out the window. The light of the full moon shined through the window filling the room with a silvery glow. He was currently rereading a recent report from the capital. The report was a request to make use of his forces in the coming battle with Baharuth. (I do need to help in any way I can still I need to protect my domain in case of an attack,) I thought, writing out an order. "Gabrielle come," I called out.
At my command Gabrielle came walking in having been standing just feet nearby "here this a form granting authority over half our forces to the Re-Estize Army please arrange for this to be given to the capital,".
At my order she grabbed the document before reading it over "we're sending our forces away" she questions eyebrow raised.
"You disagree," I questioned turning to face her curious about her opinion on the matter.
"Yes, I do we were summoned to this plane to serve you, not some untested outsiders. And while we trust you to do the right thing I have my doubts about them but we will as always do as you command," she replied.
"Well I can't exactly turn down a request from the king himself now can I how about this I will have them placed directly under Gazef's command so only he or the king may command them would that make you more comfortable," I asked.
Gabrielle rubs her chin eyes closes in thought for a few seconds before replying "that is acceptable from what I've seen of him Gazef Stronoff is an honorable man but I would advise against sending too many away in case we are ever attacked,".
"Then we are of the same mind, I shall make some changes then," I said taking the document back from the celestial and after several minutes of writing returned it.
"I shall have the letter sent off at once," Gabrielle said nodding her head before walking towards the door.
She had just reached the door when her foot stopped mid-step "oh my I almost forgot we received a report from one of our operatives the details are in this letter," she said pulling a letter from one of the pockets on her dress.
Taking the letter I read through it and as I did my brow began to frow "it's a message from one of my Changeling assassins it seems our fears have been confirmed".
"I don't care for those creatures I truly question your wisdom in creating them," Gabrielle said with a sigh and shook her head.
(It's understandable, she'd hate them they are evil by nature and what they do is unsavory if necessary,) I thought. "I understand your distaste but we have been consistently caught off guard by our enemy because of their extensive spy network and the only way to counter is to create one of our own. They're experts at stealth and assassination plus because they're changelings they also excel at replacing key figures once they've killed their target and their evil nature means they won't hesitate to do what is necessary. It's only due to their work that we have this information," I said gesturing to the report.
"What does it say," Gabrielle asked hesitation in her voice.
"It seems our enemy has anticipated our move they knew we'd send our forces to battle their tropes on Katze plains a small elite group will attack my domain while our defenses are down their hope beyond merely causing death and mayhem is to burn down all the local fields and farms so they can plunge the kingdom into famine to weaken it. It says they intend to attack from the east amid the battle while our attentions are elsewhere. Thankfully now not only do we know about their attack but the exact route they plan to take," I explained.
"I still don't care for those creatures but I admit the value of this information I will forward this information to our forces these attackers from Baharuth will be in for a rude awakening when they find them selfs victims of a sneak attack of our own. What else does it say," Gabrielle asked carefully taking note of everything she was told.
"It seems our suspicions on the Theocracy aiding Baharuth were well founded they are sending large sums of gold and magic items to Baharuth. Unfortunately, the storehouses are deep behind enemy lines it may be beyond Re-Estize's ability to strike deep into the heart of the enemy but not ours I will work on assembling a strike team, now to see that the appropriate measures are taken I need rest," I said handing the report to Gabrielle before slowly making my way onto my soft warm bed.
Gabrielle gave a quick nod before heading out of the room I meanwhile settled into my trance.
Flashback
It was a bright summer day on the Island of Evermeet the sounds of birds chirping could be heard as I was awoken from my rest by a familiar voice "Theren it's time to get up my child we have things to do today,".
As I open my eyes I was greeted by the face of my mother Anastrianna long silver hair piercing silvery gray eyes and soft feminine features. "Must be important if you're wearing your best dress," I said eyeing her outfit instead of one of her usual plain dresses this time she wore a more beautiful and elaborate flowing blue dress with silver threads and embroidery taking the form of rose vines that seem to climb up the arms and legs of the dress ending in a silver rose embroidered on her chest just above the breast. And sitting just above the embroidered rose sat a beautifully crafted necklace made of silver it was an ornately carved moon with six sparkling emeralds decorating its surface the holy symbol of Corellon.
"Of course not I can't be seen wearing something so drab at the temple," she replied.
"We go there all the time the temple in Ruith is hardly that important," I replied rolling my eyes.
"Watch your words dearest it's still a house of the gods if a bit small. And anyway we're not going there we're going to someone where much more special," Mother explain narrowing her eyes at me for my comment before smiling.
"Where then," I asked genuinely curiosity growing in me.
"The sacred shire of Corellon Larethian in Corellons grove deep in the center of the Island where the power of Seldarine the gods of our people is at its strongest," Mother said a gentle smile on her face eyes closed in reverence.
"I've never been but I hear it's one the most beautiful places on the Island elves from across the world even some from other planes of existence go there to worship this most be important whats the occasion," I asked standing up from the bed stretching as I yawned.
"When I first became an adult my father Quarion took me to that sacred place and I received a message from Corellon himself it's why I first left to become an adventurer" mother explained.
"Corellon himself spoke to you what did he say," I asked in astonishment at the thought.
"He gave me a mission you see in my day there was a powerful Cleric of Gruumsh god of Orcs and a sworn enemy of our people named Togrr, who was building an Army to attack the high forest where I lived at the time. Corellon ordered me to slay him and destroy his army. As soon I was told of this I left Evermeet to return to the high forest as soon as possible by the time I got there many settlements had already been burned and as I stood among the ashes of one of the elven villages he'd burned I swore I would hunt him down. It took me three years but with nothing but my own strength I singlehandedly destroyed his army I can proudly tell you my child many tens of thousands of orcs perished at my hand before I finally took the head of their leader and presented it at that very shire as an offering to Corellon," said Anastrianna her silvery gray eyes glowing with magic and a mix of pride and deep hatred on her face as talked of her past.
As I stood there I felt genuinely shocked to hear my kind mother speak with such pride at having slain so many as well as the raw primal hatred in her voice as she spoke of the orcs. I knew of course that my mother hated orcs as did all of Corellon's people but it wasn't until that moment that I realized the extent of her hatred of them. "You never did speak much of your time as an adventurer I guess this is why," I said eyes wide in both awe and just a twinge of fear.
Anastrianna laughed covering her mouth with her hand as she replied "well it wasn't exactly a story fit for children really besides I gave up being a warrior centuries ago so I could raise a family though I admit when I look at my old adventuring gear I do at times relish remembering the good times when my blade bathed in the blood of mine enemies and thousands of Togrr's men perish in an instant under the might of my magic of when the children of Gruumsh all across Faerun shook with fear at the sound of my name,".
"Huh… okay," I said slowly backing up.
"Oh don't give me that your just as squeamish as your father at times I swear," said Anastrianna rolling her eyes.
"Sorry it's just surprising hearing you speak in such a way," I explained.
"Yes, I know there's a reason I gave up all that centuries ago I eventually tired of fighting and settled down with your father. And when the retreat happen we moved here and had you. But I do not regret my actions in the slightest the orcs are a vile disgusting race of monsters and they breed like rats it's why I made a point of killing them on sight," she said eyes narrowed in anger.
"I've never heard you speak of with such conviction mother you never came off as the bloodthirsty type," I said eyebrow raised.
"It's true I do make a point of getting along with other races and I've taught you the same I have no quarrel with humans, dwarves, tiefling, or any others but orcs are different they are the sworn enemy of our people and they shant be shown any mercy nor given any quarter any that threaten out people are merely a threat to be destroyed. You must understand my child we carry the blood of Corellon and our family was granted this power by him so we might protect elven kind never forget this," Anastrianna explained seemingly having calmed down the anger dissipating from her eyes.
"I'll keep that in mind so how are we getting to Corellons Grove that place is at least a few day's ride from here and I can't fly like you," I asked with annoyance.
"Oh, you'll be able to fly someday when your a bit stronger," Anastrianna smiled as she pinched my cheeks.
"Stop that I'm not a child anymore mother," I said with a pout.
"I know it's just funny to tease you sometimes now take my hand," mother ordered.
Obeying I grabbed her right hand with my left feeling the soft warmth of her skin before hearing her speak "Teleport,".
Entrance to Corellon's Grove
I felt my stomach turn at the sudden change in location "I feel like we left my stomach back at the house," I said hand holding my stomach and leaning over trying to resist the urge to puke.
"Oh you'll get used to that", Anastrianna said giggling at my reaction.
After recovering I took notice of the site before me a tall wrought iron gate overgrown with rose vines and lovely red roses in full bloom. "Come I'll show you around," Anastrianna said with a smile taking my hand and leading me toward the gate. As soon as we approached the gate slowly opened with a metallic groan of its own accord.
As soon as we stepped inside I reacted immediately "wow," I exclaimed letting out a gasp of surprise. The inside of the structure was beautiful it took the form of a large reverse U-shaped structure with the upper portion of the outer wall being a pure marble wall seemingly held up by twenty-four marble pillars ornately carved with roses vines and roses in full bloom climbing up them and the bottom portion of the outer wall being made up of towering trees with branches interlink like a fence. There were three shires on the left side and three to the right and a much larger shrine at the end. In addition, there were six lovely marble fountains three on each side each gushing with a different colored liquid. There was well-maintained grass covering the ground along with a marble path leading to each of the seven shrines.
"Come let me show you around you see those six fountains," Anastrianna said gesturing to the fountains.
"Yes they seem odd that's not water they're gushing out is it," I asked.
"No, each one contains a different potion created by the magic of the gods themselves though you must be an elf to drink from them the upper left fountain contains a potion of healing which does exactly what it sounds like. The upper right fountain contains an elixir of health that can cure blindness, deafness, any disease, feeblemindedness(an effect of a certain spell), insanity, and poisoning. The middle left fountain contains a potion of heroism which temporarily increases one's power. The middle right fountain contains a potion that makes one completely immune to nonmagical attacks for a limited time. The bottom left fountain contains an even more powerful healing potion. The bottom right fountain contains a potion which when drank makes the drinker immune to poison and disease, constantly magically healing, and not need sleep food, or water for the next seven days." Anastrianna explained gesturing to each fountain as she did so.
"Wow normally such potions take powerful magic casters days or even months to make such things yet they are offered here freely," I explained eyes wide in surprise at the explanation.
"Indeed it's a gift of the gods to their faithful who make the journey here. And you see the six side shrines each one is dedicated to a different god. The upper left shrine is dedicated to Sehanine elven goddess of the moon it is said some who pray here sometimes receive prophetic dreams warning them of potential danger," Anastrianna explained. The shrine depicts a beautiful elven woman wearing translucent robes.
"The upper right shrine is dedicated to Aerdrie Faenya elven goddess of the sky those who pray here are at times transformed into a giant eagle for a few days," She explained. The shrine depicted a tall thin elven woman with large feathery wings who wore a long flowing robe that reached her feet.
"The middle left shrine is dedicated to Hanali Celanil elven goddess of love and beauty those who pray here have a chance to receive her blessing granting success in finding love" she explained. The shrine depicted a beautiful elven woman wearing a tunic and golden anklets and bracelets she held her arms open and was smiling lovingly.
"The middle right shrine is dedicated to Labelas Enoreth elven god of time those who pray here have a chance to gain the power to cast one cleric spell of his domain once regardless of if one is a magic user or not regardless of spell level," she explained. The shrine depicted a handsome androgynous elven man clad in druid robes.
"The lower left shrine is dedicated to Titania the summer queen of the fey and Oberon the king of beasts the two Arch Fey rulers of the Feywild and patrons of all fey creatures. Any fey creature who prays here has a chance to temporarily receive the effect of a wizard or cleric spell," she explained. The shrine depicted Titania as an inhumanly beautiful woman with long elf-like ears and gossamer wings a solemn expression on her face and a diamond-tipped wand in her hand. Standing next to her was her husband Oberon depicted as a large muscular fairy without wings wearing a leafy cloak.
"But Titania and Oberon aren't part of the Seldarine and I'm pretty sure their Archfey not gods why do they have a shrine here," I asked Mother confused.
"Well true they aren't part of the Seldarine but many of our eldarine cousins as well as many of the fey creatures that share our island still consider them beings worthy of worship," Anastrianna explained with a patient smile.
"Ah continue then," I said eager to hear the rest of the explanation gesturing for her to continue.
"The lower right shrine is dedicated to Rillifane Rallathil elven god of nature those who pray here have a chance to gain the power to speak with animals or sylvan creatures," she explained. The shrine depicted a hansom green-skinned elf armed with a longbow and wearing armor made from tree bark.
"And now follow me," said Anastrianna grasping my hand a sense of purpose filling her.
As we slowly walked to the end of the marble path I saw the shrine of Corellon. Shizzled from the finest marble depicting a tall thin elven man with a handsome but androgynous-looking face with high cheekbones and narrow eyes. Upon his brow lay a wonderfully crafted coronet crown made from highly polished platinum it took the form of what appeared to be vines curling around his head ending in a blooming rose on his forehead with shimmering deep blue sapphire in the center. He wore scale armor and held a longsword in his hand.
As I approached the shrine I felt a twinge of nervousness at the impressive sight my mother continued undeterred and knelt at the statue's feet falling into reverie. I knelt next to her doing the same the monument I did I felt all the nervousness from before evaporate and in its place, an indescribable sense of peace and contentment filled me. Never in my life had I ever felt so safe the closes I could get to describe it was when a child awakened from a nightmare before being sung to sleep cuddled in their parent's arms. I sat there in a meditation state unable to form proper thoughts content to bask in the feeling forever before a part of my mind reminded me there was a reason I'd come there slowly pulling myself away from the warm feeling I silently began to pray (Corellon by your grace grant me the wisdom to know my purpose the guidance to see the path to it and the strength fulfill it) no sooner had I finished that thought my mind swim and I was blinded a bright light.
Evereska, Faerun
As my vision adjusted I saw myself looking down from a bird's eye view of a small city sitting in a verdant green valley it was early dawn the sun had just begun to rise over the horizon a thick layer of mist surrounding the valley surrounding the city (what is this place,) I thought.
(This is the city of Evereska, the last city of elves left in Faerun after the retreat,) a voice called out. I didn't hear it out loud but from within my mind, it sounded like a soft male voice the sound of which brought indescribable comfort.
(Why are we here,) I thought back at the voice respectfully.
(Watch and you will see,) the voice said with no small amount of anger though I could somehow sense that anger wasn't directed at me.
Obeying the voice I watched after a while a deep rumbling was heard and from the east threw the mist a lone figure came. And I saw a giant spider large as a horse clad in blackened iron armor. Upon its back was a tall female drow ebony skin dark as the night sky, long silvery white hair bangs wrapping themselves around their head like a crown ending in a bun at the back of their head from which a long braided ponytail stretched down to their thighs where it rested. Piercing ruby-red eyes carefully observed her surroundings. Dressing in exquisite black armor she rode into the center of the clearing before raising a horn to her lips and blowing as she raced forth toward the city.
And I heard a loud thundering sound come forth from it in response to the war horn the ground began to tremble and an army of thousands of soldiers came forth from the mist drow riding upon the backs of steeders giant spiders made mounts and rode into battle. Upon the backs of these beasts were lolthian drow thousands beyond counting. Following their leader's charge the army of drow charge the city roaring out war cries as they did the earth trembling as they did. Just as they reach the edge of the city an enormous magical barrier manifested it shone under the light of the early morning sun like a precious jewel.
(Ah a Mythal I've read about those enormously powerful magic barriers used to protect certain areas and cities and they could only be produced by elven high magic,) I thought excited to see such amazing magic up close.
The leader of the drow smirked as if she had expected it slowly she raised her hand into the air before thrusting it forward and shouting "Phaerimm attack,". At her command, her tropes moved aside as lumbering monstrosity came filtered threw to the front huge slug-like creatures with green skin covered in spines and slime a circular mouth filed on all sides with teeth four long claw-like appendages unnatural long and then jutting out from its body. These creatures hovered across the battlefield the let out a loud wet screech as they charged one by one the attached like leeches to the barrier.
As they did I saw the magical energy of the barrier follow like a mist into the mouths of the horrible magic-eating creatures the barrier began to flicker like a candle in the wind before vanishing. The army of drow cheered at the sight and proceeded to march on the city burning looting and killing any who tried to stop them. Eventually, the city defenders drove them back but not before taking thousands of elves prisoner and burning down a third of the city.
(Who was that,) I thought enraged at the sight.
(Nedylene Coborel Drow high priestess of Loath and her army have sacked the city and their prisoners taken deep into the Underdark to be used as sacrifices to Loath or as slaves,) said the voice said with deep rage and sadness clear as a bell.
(w-why are you showing me this,) I asked voice trembling.
(Lord AO's laws prevent me from directly interfering too much Nedylene may be a servant of Loath but she's still a mortal so I can't take direct action but you are different you child who carries a glimmer of my divine power can intervene in my name I order you save these elves from their captures and defeat this champion of Loath,) the voice said carrying a stern commanding tone.
(I will I swear I will,) I thought filled with conviction.
(Then go forth with my blessing,) said the voice carrying an air of joy hearing my response.
Vision End
As my vision ended I began to feel the sensation of my shoulders being shaken and hear my mother's voice frantically shouting "THEREN WAKE UP,".
As my eyes opened I saw the frantic face of my mother slowly begin to calm her wide silver eyes visually relaxing as she did so. "Sorry if I worried you I was just… my mind was elsewhere," I said averting my gaze.
"The gods gave you a mission your leaving home aren't you," Anastrianna asked a sad smile on her lips.
"How?" I asked my eyes wide in surprise.
"The same happened to me when I was your age so what'd they tell you," Anastriana asked.
"I'm going to Faerun," I said a look of determination on my face.
Flashback End
The Fortress, Theren's POV
I yawned as I exited my trance (oh yeah that is the spot I always feel refreshed after doing that,) I thought as I pulled myself out of bed rubbing the sleep from my eyes. My long sensitive ears twitched as they picked up the distant sounds shouts and the clanking of armor. "Oh what now," I sighed in annoyance.
"I can hear you lingering outside my door you have permission to enter," I said to the woman standing just outside my bedroom door.
At my command, an angel clad in armor walk into the room with a sense of urgency on her face and the way she moved her belt before me before speaking "forgive me I heard you were resting and did not wish to disturb you I had planned on wait till after you were done but it seems I awaken you".
"I was already awake so it's fine so tell me what's with all the commotion downstairs," I asked.
"We were bringing in a criminal but they did feel like cooperating so we had to use force," the angel said.
"What are they being charged with," I asked feeling vaguely curious.
"Currently? Drawing a weapon in a public place resisting arrest and attempted murder," the angel explained.
"What do you mean currently and why to bring them all the way here to the fortress and not the local jail," I asked.
"The individual in question is a relatively powerful worker from the Baharuth Empire and it's unlikely the local jail would hold them for long. More to the point we suspect he may be in league with our enemies. In addition, also three women that were in his company have agreed to corporate in exchange for their freedom but they will only speak to you," the angel explained.
"Very well bring then we can interrogate them all later but I'd like to see three for myself," I commanded.
"As you command my lord bring them in," the angel ordered her allies waiting just outside the door.
I wait as the three women were brought before me the three kneeled with heads bowed. As I observed them my eyes grew increasingly wide in horror. Three elven women clothed in rags covered in bruises but it was their ears the sight of their delicate lovely elven ears a sign of their heritage had been sliced off. I visibly flinched but with all my will forced it down. I knelt in front of the blonde elf in the middle.
"Raise your heads and stand," I order voice filled with calm.
As soon as they did they flinched in fear for my calm tone had concealed my anger and while my face seems perfectly serene my violet eyes were aglow with magic. Gentle I reached out to touch the elven women's mutilated ears with the tips of my fingers and spoke in elvish raw primal rage filling my being "who did this to you".
