After the Valentine's dance, Lily and her friends settled into a routine. Lily often saw James in the accompany of Jasmine and her friends, but she noticed that he was started to gather some friends of his own, which she was glad for.
It was soon announced that the school would be celebrating a week of spring break. Lily and James both were like, what was spring break? Emily sighed, wondering what the heck kind of breaks that Hogwarts had.
Emily said, "Spring break really is just a week of relaxation. Most families use this opportunity to take a vacation to the beach."
Lily said, "Hmm. Do you parents plan on doing anything?"
Emily shook her head. She said, "Its calving season, so we will be at the ranch getting the new calves branded and such."
Julia said, "How about you come to my place, Lily? You can see what a farm looks like."
Lily said, "Let me ask my parents."
James had already signed up to stay at school that week to study for his OWLs as the standards in the US were the same as the International ones which were harder than the ones in Britain. Jasmine was helping him study, but she was going home for the Spring Break.
Lily got permission to go to Julia's parents' home for Spring break, however, Julia's parents were not on board with the idea of having another magical in the house despite her sisters being magical also. Lily sighed at Julia's disappointment.
Lily signed up to stay at Ilvermorny over the break also. She had most of her homework done the weekend before, so she spent time in the library and on the tennis courts. She had loved playing tennis in physical education. Lily had been able to get the throwing machine checked out as she didn't have anyone to play with.
"May if I join you?"
Lily looked up and saw Victor Thompson standing there. She smiled. She said, "Sure."
They played a set match. Victor won of course, but he was impressed with her skills. He said, "You should try out for the team in your third year. You have talent."
Lily blushed. She said, "Thanks, I've been thinking about it."
Victor smiled. He said, "I've been wanting to talk to Brenda, but I'm unsure how to approach her. I broke up with her rather brashly because of the way she was dressed. I'm more of a modest person, and that a lady shouldn't reveal too much, if you know what I mean. How upset was she?"
Lily said, "She was pretty upset. Just approach her and ask for a word, tell her your feelings. I can tell that you two care for each other deeply."
Victor nodded. He said, "I was hoping to present her with a promise ring that night, but then she showed up in the dress that she wore, and I reacted badly. I thought she knew how I felt about that kind of dress."
Lily smiled. She said, "Let's head back to the dorms, and I'll send her out."
Victor smiled his thanks. After checking her racket back in at the equipment desk, Lily and Victor walked back to the dorms. Lily opened the door to her building, but Victor remained outside due to the rules.
Up in her rooms, Lily turned to Brenda who had stayed over also due to NEWT studies. She said, "You have a male visitor outside. He would really like to talk to you."
Brenda looked up from her desk. Hope shown on her face.
Lily went into her room and grabbed a change of clothes and hopped in the shower. Lily hummed to herself. After her shower, Lily went to her room, and grabbed one of her research books that she had gotten from the library on wand lore. The subject utterly fascinated her. She knew that she could go to Brenda anytime she wanted with her questions, but she loved to read.
Half hour later, Brenda came in and stood in her doorway. It took a few minutes for Lily to see her. Lily smiled when she saw her and closed the book after marking her page. She said, "Well?"
Brenda said, "I just wanted to say thank you. Victor and I have come to terms with what happened and are working on repairing our relationship. I understand what he expects, and we've decided to compromise."
Lily inclined her head.
Brenda said, "What were you reading?"
Lily said, "The history of wand lore."
Brenda said, "Oh. I didn't know you were interested in that."
Lily said, "I've been interested since your mother mentioned that it was unusual that I was able to pretty much pick out my own wand."
Brenda said, "I can understand that. It is rare."
Brenda drew out her own wand from its holster and said, "I've been told that there are people with certain abilities that can discern whether or not certain materials go well together or not. My father is one of those. You could be another. Here, holds my wand. What do you feel?"
Lily took the wand. She felt its feelings, and that it was happy to be used by Brenda. Lily then handed the wand back to Brenda and said, "Your wand is happy to be in your presence."
Brenda raised an eyebrow at that. She said, "I'll owl my father and ask him to send you some information. I suggest you consider wand craft as a career. I know its early, but you seem to have something that most wand makers don't. Were you able to discern what the core was?"
Lily said, "Wampus hair and the wood is Oak, mixed together with phoenix tears."
Brenda said, "Oh yeah. You definitely need to go into wand making."
Lily smiled. At that, Brenda left. Lily got out her mirror and called her father. He smiled at her and said, "Lily, how are you doing? Enjoying your break? I know the Murphy's were a little disappointed that you didn't go home with them."
Lily said, "It's a busy time of the year for them. I didn't want to intrude. Plus, I'm doing some research while I have no homework."
Harry said, "Oh?"
Lily went on to explain what had happened with her wand and just now recently with Brenda's and what Brenda advised.
Harry said, "Hmm, that does explain certain things. I'll talk to Mr. Ollivander about maybe you work with him during the summers a couple of weekends to see if you like it. Whether it be this year or next. If Ilvermorny is the same as Hogwarts, you choose electives in third year, and some of those electives help decide what you can do with your career choices."
Lily thanked her father and ended the call.
Later that week, Lily was talking to Brenda about wand lore and the history of it within her family.
When everyone came back from spring break, Lily thought she might have found her career, but didn't want to stick herself with just one option. Another career in the pamphlets that interested her was healing. She found that a lot of the courses that were required by both were the same.
After spring break was over, everything settled back into a routine. They had a short Easter Break, where Lily went home with the Murphy's and then they were in the homestretch for the end of the school year.
The week before her finals, Lily was in Mrs. Cutter's office talking about classes for next year and how her schedule would work out. Nothing would change, except for her language course, but Mrs. Cutter had also wanted to make sure that her students could handle the coursework.
Lily said, "I like the pace of the classes; however, I wish we had like time period in the schedule where we can just have time to do our homework."
Mrs. Cutter said, "Next year you will. Your time in Potions will be cut down to just one period instead of a double period. You had a lot to learn this year in how everything mixed and such. So, next year, you will be doing just some brewing instead, unless the teacher needs you to learn something new before working on the potion."
Lily said, "Okay."
As Lily was coming out of Mrs. Cutter's room, she saw a young first year girl coming out of Mr. Thompson's office, crying. Lily grabbed her as she walked by and pulled her into Mrs. Cutter's office.
Mrs. Cutter who was looking over her notes, saw this and said, "Lily! What are you doing!"
Lily said, "I saw her coming out of Mr. Thompson's office crying, Mrs. Cutter."
The girl said, "I don't want no trouble."
Mrs. Cutter said, "Ms. Sampson, your not in trouble. Why were you in Mr. Thompson's office?"
Ms. Sampson said, "We talked."
Lily said, "A talk shouldn't make you cry like this. Mrs. Cutter, I think we need Mrs. Allen here."
Mrs. Cutter nodded.
Fifteen minutes later, it turned out that Yolanda, the girls' name, had been being sexually abused by Mr. Thompson all year. Mrs. Allen had thanked Lily and sending her away before Yolanda gave her testimony to Mrs. Allen, Mrs. Cutter, and the aurors that Mrs. Allen had called.
It was all over the school what Mr. Thompson had done, but not who he had done it too by supper. Lily felt sick. Mrs. Allen brought in a charms mistress to cover Mr. Thompson classes for the remainder of the year.
Finals week was hell for the six friends. Lily decided to reach out to Yolanda and found out that she really didn't have any friends. She invited the girl into their group and the group easily accepted her and helped her study for her final exams.
The day they left Ilvermorny for their summer break, Yolanda came up to her and said, "Thank you, Lily for what you did. I know I should've told someone sooner, but I wasn't comfortable. I hope after my parents find out they won't withdraw me and send me to another school."
Lily said, "I hope not either. Unfortunately, I don't have a way to contact you over the summer, but maybe next year I will. Going to talk to my father about a few things over summer."
Yolanda said, "You from Britain right?"
Lily smiled and said, "Yep."
Yolanda said, "Do you think you can get me Ginevra Potter's autograph?"
Lily blushed. She said, "I think I can manage that. I'll bring it with me at the start of the year. If your not at Ilvermorny, I'll have Belle bring it to you."
Yolanda smiled.
A/N:
I'm not one to write these, however, I feel like I should address a recent guest review. I sometimes can't come up with chapter content and how I want the next chapter to go. I have found that if I write a chapter, and I start looking over it, I find that that's not what I want in that chapter or in the story at all.
Hope y'all like this chapter. What will Lily experience in the summer and second year? Who knows!
