The next day found, Lily back in the library working on her potion's assignment. It was a three-page paper on the Dreamless Sleep potion. As she was looking up the information on the inventor in the Potter library, Lily heard a throat clear. Lily turned and saw her mother standing there.
Lily smiled. She put the book down and went to her mother and hugged her. Ginny motioned to one of the chairs and they sat down. Ginny said, "I know you tried out for the teams. Do you know how the try outs went?"
Lily blushed. She said, "I made the tennis team as a starter and I'm first reserve seeker on the Quidditch team."
Ginny hugged her daughter. She said, "Congratulations. I'm working on getting a tennis field set up here at the Manor for you."
Lily smiled her thanks. She commented, "Mother, I didn't see you at the party last night. Were you there?"
Ginny said, "I was. It was a big party with all the family and friends there. I should've sought you out but knew we would see each other today. I'm also sorry I wasn't here to see you guys come home. I was at the Burrow helping mother set up the party for James and time got away from me. When I realized the time, it was already way past the time for you guys to be in bed. I came home, and fell asleep, and left early yesterday morning to make the final preparations and to help mother start on the cooking."
Lily smiled. Grandma Weasley loved to cook, but when it came to a party like they had yesterday, she tended to want to go overboard. Lily said, "I do need to discuss something with you and father. I'll mention it to you now. I've been a offered a reserve spot on the school Tennis team along with the other two-house teams."
Ginny said, "I did not know that they had school teams at Ilvermorny."
Lily went on to explain how they had a school team for each of the nonmagical sports. She then explained her reasoning for possibly not joining the school team.
Ginny listened to her daughter's explanations and was fascinated by it. Once Lily was finished, Ginny said, "I can see your reasoning on not joining the school tennis team. Follow your heart. See what your classes are like this year, and next year if you think you can handle the pressure of being on the school team, tryout again."
Lily nodded her agreement.
Ginny asked, "What were you working on when I came in?"
Lily said, "I have a three-page paper to write on the dreamless sleep potion and then another four pagers on a transfiguration topic."
Ginny said, "Nice. Have you decided on what you want to do for your transfiguration topic?"
Lily shrugged. It was getting harder and harder for things to come to mind on what to do for her summer work. Maybe she could get enough research done on the concept of Animagus. Lily said, "I'm thinking about doing the Animagus transformation."
Ginny raised an eyebrow at that. Not many people researched that topic. She knew that Harry had, but decided not to go through with the process of searching for his inner animal. Ginny was never really interested in that. Ginny said, "It would be interesting to read it when you are done."
Lily nodded. She said, "Do we know of anyone that is an Animagus?"
Ginny replied shaking her head, "Not that is alive, no. Your grandfather potter was a stag, Sirius Black was a dog, there was a reporter who was a beetle, and another a rat." Ginny thought for a moment. "I just remembered; Professor McGonagall is a cat Animagus."
Lily jotted this down onto a piece of paper. She knew that it was a great way to put it into her paper.
Ginny stood up and said, "I must go and see what your brother is up to now that he can magic without facing repercussions. Though I've heard Jasmine is in town for a few days, so he might be wanting to go and visit with her before they head back to the states."
Lily smiled as she thought about the conversation she had with her brother. She wondered if there was anyone she liked in that aspect of things. Timothy was a prospect, along with Oliver Stanton. Lily went back to her computer and went to work on her potions paper.
Lunchtime had come and gone by the time Lily had a good outline of her paper drawn up. Lily stood and stretched. Gertrude had provided her with water throughout her research.
The rest of May passed with Lily getting her homework done. Soon it was June, and time for the Hogwarts Express to arrive in London from Scotland. Lily, James, and Ginny went to King's Cross. Harry had to work that day. It was a few days before Albus' fifteenth birthday which they were planning a small party for family and a few of his friends.
Lily was dressed in a nice pair of jeans, and a t-shirt with the Ilvermorny logo on it. It was something she had found during Christmas at the AstroMall. She was proud of her school.
Ginny stood and watched as families greeted their children coming off the train. They were greeting Iris also as Dudley and Connie both had to work that day. Jasmine and Ivy were being watched by Petunia.
"Lily!"
Lily turned and saw Iris running towards them. Lily hugged her cousin. She said, "Look at how much you have grown!"
Albus was right behind her. He had grown too. Lily had noticed it at the party in May. He now stood at 5'7". Ginny waved at Hermione and Ron who were picking up Rose and Hugo. They were all gathering at the Burrow in a few days to celebrate Albus' birthday and then the next day celebrate Percy's oldest, Molly graduating.
At the house, Albus took his trunk up to his room, and afterwards they had a small afternoon snack. They were going to the Dursley residence for supper that night. Harry soon arrived. He took James and Albus' hand for apparating while Ginny took Lily's and Iris. Ginny also had Iris' shrunk trunk in her pocket. In a rush of magic, they appeared outside of the Dursley residence. They all made sure they were straightened out and walked up the path.
Harry rang the doorbell. He flushed when Petunia opened the door. Petunia said, "Harry, please come in! Connie is just putting the final touches on dinner. Dudley is entertaining Jasmine and Ivy. Vernon is not here."
Harry relaxed. He had forgiven Petunia and Dudley for their treatment of him, but he didn't think that he could ever forgive Vernon Dursley. Harry also doubted that Vernon would be alive much longer. The years of overindulgence on food and drink were catching up to him. He was on several medications a day and a very strict diet. Harry was glad to see that Connie had curbed Dudley's own food intake.
Ginny followed Iris up to her room and unshrunk her trunk for her.
Jasmine said, "We got our letters the other day!"
Lily said, "Congratulations! I bet you are excited."
Ivy nodded. Lily figured her for Hufflepuff from what she had heard about the Hogwarts houses. Jasmine was a classic Gryffindor.
They chatted over dinner. Aunt Petunia asked James and Lily many questions about their education at Ilvermorny. Lily noticed that her father looked pained.
Aunt Petunia said, "James, if I remember correctly from when your father was turning seventeen, that it is a big thing in the magical world."
James looked at his father who nodded. James said, "It is when we are considered an adult. It's a big thing especially for a first-born like myself. I'm the heir to the Potter family. Father gave me a pocket watch with the Potter crest on it."
Aunt Petunia took the pocket watch and looked it over. She said, "It is beautiful, James."
After dinner, everyone retired to the living room. Harry took out several laptops and passed them to Ivy, Jasmine, and Iris. He said, "These are magical laptops. They can be taken to Hogwarts in the fall. They will be powered off the ambient magic in the air. However, I bought these for you guys as they can also be charged for when you are here at home where there is no ambient magic. This will allow Dudley and Connie to contact their children via email if needed instead of owls. There is a computer club for those who are interested. I suggest you three join. You can help the magic raised students learn to work the laptops."
As they were getting ready to leave, Petunia stepped up to Harry with a small box. Petunia said handing it to Harry, "I came to know of the tradition of giving of a gift to a wizard at their coming of age. So, I reached out to a friend of mine in the jewelry department at the mall and came up with this."
Everyone held their breath as Harry took the box. He opened it and found a silver Rolex watch. Harry handed the watch off to Ginny and walked to Aunt Petunia. He wrapped his arms around her. Everyone heard the whispered, "Thank you."
Everyone let their breaths out. After backing up from Aunt Petunia, Harry said, "How would you like to see Potter Manor?"
Aunt Petunia's eyes lit up. To see where her nephews' family lived was a dream come true. Harry smiled at her response. He said, "I'll come and get you on Saturday. Sunday is Albus' birthday as you know. You can stay with us, and then attend the birthday party at Ginny's parents' place. There will be a graduation party also as one of Ginny's nieces just finished her education at Hogwarts."
Aunt Petunia smiled.
Back at Potter Manor, Lily walked up to the painting of her grandmother. She turned to her grandfather who was watching her. Lily said, "Is there a reason why her painting never activated?"
James portrait said, "Lily never understood the concept of putting memories in a painting, so her memories were never done before our passing more than likely. However, if she is truly not dead it wouldn't have activated. I believe something else though. I believe Lily charmed it to where a certain someone had to meet it before her painting would activate."
Lily smiled as soon as she realized who it was that her grandfather was talking about. She said, "I'll make sure to bring her on Saturday when she comes to visit."
James smiled in his portrait. He said, "You do look so much like your namesake, but I can also see the Weasley line in you."
Lily said, "I do have a question grandfather. There is talk of a curse that Potter men always marry redheads."
The portrait laughed. He said, "Look around you Lily. I was the first in many generations to marry a redhead. It was just a coincidence that Harry fell in love with a redhead also. Has James or Albus fallen for a redhead?"
Lily said, "Your namesake has. She is a fellow student at Ilvermorny."
The portrait became thoughtful. He said, "Hmm. Maybe I started a precedence. We shall see. I don't see it as a curse, but it would take some thinking on. I will consult with the other portraits when they are awake as I'm sure they are listening in."
A portrait huffed in response causing Lily to chuckle.
That Saturday, Harry apparated to Private Drive and came back with Aunt Petunia. Uncle Vernon tried to come, but Petunia told him his health wouldn't hold up. Aunt Petunia stood staring at the house in awestruck. Ginny and the kids were standing just outside the doors.
Lily hugged Aunt Petunia. She said, "I have someone who would like to speak to you."
Aunt Petunia looked at Lily, confused. Lily led the way to the portrait room and over to the portraits of James and Lily. James bowed to Petunia.
He said, "Petunia, welcome to our humble abode. I want to apologize for what we did to you at our wedding."
Petunia said, "You were forgiven a several years ago, James."
Petunia sought out her sister's face and her own face fell when the painting was silent. Petunia walked up to it and placed her hand on it. Petunia said, "Oh, Lily. How I wish we could talk again."
In a blinding flash of magic, the portrait came alive. Everyone was stunned.
Portrait Lily stretched. "Petunia, how good to see you."
Aunt Petunia fainted. Harry quickly caught her before she hit the ground. He stared up at the painting.
Lily looked at the little family gathered. She turned to her husband and said, "Look what you started. Our son went and married a redhead."
Ginny giggled.
Portrait Lily said, "What's your name, dear?"
Ginny said, "Ginevra."
Portrait Lily said, "Your Arthur and Molly's daughter?"
Ginny nodded. Portrait Lily said, "I held you shortly after you were born. If you must know, Harry liked you even then."
Harry said, "Must you say that mother!"
Portrait James said, "I told you Harry!"
Portrait Lily said, "Care to introduce me to my grandkids, Harry? Seeing as Petunia still recovering."
Harry said, "This is James Sirius, beside him is Albus Severus, and our daughter, Lily Luna."
Portrait Lily said, "I can understand James' name, but you will need to tell me the reasoning behind Albus Severus names. I was friends with Severus up until our fifth year."
Harry said, "I'm aware. Severus redeemed himself in the end. Fought and died for the light."
Portrait Lily smiled at that. She said, "I'm glad to hear that. I knew he loved me, but after he called me that foul word. I couldn't stand the sight of him. Plus, I didn't return his love."
Petunia stirred. She looked up from her spot on the floor. "Lily…"
Portrait Lily smiled. She said, "Hello Petunia."
Petunia smiled and said, "It is so good to hear your voice again, sister. I want to apologize for how I reacted to your abilities."
Portrait Lily said still smiling, "I understand, Petunia. I found out shortly after starting at Hogwarts who I was. I couldn't let anyone know that I knew. I tried to reach out to our real parents, but my letter returned unopened. I presume you know now?"
Petunia nodded. She said, "Our real parents are dead. Our father passed sometimes after you were killed, and our mother passed last year. I also have found out by coincidence that we have a brother."
Portrait Lily was shocked.
Younger Lily said, "I go to Ilvermorny in the United States for school. There I met the Murphy children. Well, one thing led to another, and that's how we found out."
Portrait James said, "As in Belinda and Chester Murphy?"
Portrait Lily turned to James. She said, "You know them?"
Portrait James said, "My parents were good friends with them. They never mentioned two daughters. However, I do remember Victor. Chester was a seer. It is possible that he had a vision when you guys were babies and through some choice decisions, put you two up for adoption. A few years later, Victor came along."
Harry said, "That is how it happened."
Portrait Lily said, "I wish now I had said something. It would have been nice to meet them."
James beckoned Albus and Lily away and out of the portrait room. Out of the portrait room, James said, "Let's leave the adults to have their talk."
Lily nodded.
