In the commons area, Lily sat with her friends, and Audrey sat with hers that were in the building which was mostly the second years that Lily's friends were mentoring: Michelle Branscum and Serenity Moon. Irene soon came down with Andrea and sat with them. Andrea hung in the back.
Soon everyone was gathered around, and Mrs. Cutter came out of her office. She smiled at the gathering. Mrs. Cutter said, "Welcome to building 4, girls. My name is Mrs. Cutter. I teach 6th and 7th year transfiguration, but most importantly while you are in this building, I am your dorm mother. If you have any questions or are having issues with your roommates or classmates, please come to me. Now, I'm pleased to announce that once again this year, we have two head girls for building 4. They are Elaine Vinton and Jasmine Young. They are also here for help. Your floor prefects are listed in your dorms. If there are any disputes amongst roommates, you are to go to the floor prefects, then the dorm heads, and then come to me if it is not resolved. One thing I would like to add about the new living arrangements that Mrs. Allen said before the sorting, if you have any changes that you would like to see made this year or in the future, please drop it into the suggestion box outside my office. Now, any questions?"
No one asked a question. The meeting soon broke up, and Lily stayed with Irene and Julia for a few minutes to see how Irene was settling in.
Irene said, "You were right. Andrea is really kind."
Lily smiled. She said, "I would hope I had the measure of her after 2 years."
Irene giggled.
Lily soon went up to her room and laid down on her bed. Her room had changed from the classic white to match her house colors.
The next day, Lily changed into some jeans and a t-shirt. She headed up for breakfast and then her and her friends mapped out their classes. They then went to the library and got signed up for a study roo0m. Putting down all their friends that would be using it.
As they were heading to the dining hall for lunch, which on the weekends ran from 11-1 with no assigned times, they were talking about what to expect in their classes this year. Renee and Julia were talking about being able to learn how to defend themselves, and Brandy and Deidra were talking about what they would learn in Ancient Runes. Lily just listened to what they were talking about.
"Hey Potter!"
Lily turned and saw Monica, Joyce, and Heather walking towards them. Lily sighed. Her friends stopped talking and watched the three girls' approach.
Monica said, "You leave Oliver alone, you hear me? Why don't you just go and get you a British lad and leave the American boys alone?"
Lily said, "It is so fascinating that you think I am the one doing anything. Oliver approached me, not the other way around. Anyways, the only British boys I know are family and there is only one in this school and that is my brother."
They were starting to gather a crowd of onlookers.
Heather said, "You must have him under some sort of spell. No American would want a British gal."
Lily rolled her eyes. She said, "It must be nice to be so narrow minded. Reminds me of the stories my father told me about certain people he met in school at Hogwarts. Most of them married their cousins!"
The crowd gasped.
Joyce started to pull her wand, but was stopped when she heard, "What is going on here?"
It was Ms. Evans.
Lily said, "Just settling a dispute, ma'am."
Ms. Evans said, "There is to be no fighting in this school. Now break it up unless you all want detention."
Joyce, Heather, and Monica left in the opposite direction.
Ms. Evans turned to Lily and her friends. Ms. Evans said, "Ms. Potter, please follow me. The rest of you, on with your day."
Renee and Julia threw Lily a questioning look. Lily shrugged her shoulders and followed Ms. Evans to her office. When Lily stepped through the door to her office, Ms. Evans shut it and locked it. Lily immediately made sure she had her wand ready.
Ms. Evans said, "Ms. Potter, be not afraid. I've been wanting to talk to you since last year, but never got a chance. Here let me show you something." Ms. Evans pulled out a badge that showed her from the MACUSA office of magical police, detective division. "I hope that assures you."
Lily relaxed. She nodded.
Ms. Evans said, "After your unusual acceptance to Ilvermorny, Mrs. Allen contacted us to start an investigation. She then reported to us about Mr. Zabini's note to you. I was the one who arrested him that day Ms. Sampson was found to be having been abused by him. With approval from my boss I was brought on as a charms teacher in his place to help protect you and the school."
Lily said, "Does my father know about this?"
Ms. Evans said, "Yes. He whole heartedly approved. He wanted to actuall0y send one of his own people to do it, but that was shot down by MACUSA. It would throw up red flags amongst the unknown people who got you accepted here if a British subject were to suddenly start teaching here again after one just left after being found to be a Polyjuice Death Eater."
Lily nodded. She could see her father doing that.
Ms. Evans said, "I just wanted to introduce myself to you and to let you know that if you notice anything else unusual to make sure you bring it to mine and Mrs. Allen's attention. We don't know who amongst the staff we can trust yet. Everyone seems to be on the up and up, but things may not be as they seem. I also ask that you not tell anyone, not even your friends that I'm an undercover detective, lest it get out."
Lily nodded. She said, "Ms. Evans, I do have a question. It has nothing to do with what you have told me, but its something that has been bothering me since my cousin, Emily mentioned you looked like my namesake, Lily Potter. Knowing now what I have found since then, I doubt you are her, but are you any relation to the Evans that are in England?"
Ms. Evans said, "I do believe they are very distant cousins. Trust me, I had to verify my identity when I tried to get a job with MACUSA in 82. By then it had reached America what had happened and everyone was commenting how I looked very much like the late Lady Potter."
Lily smiled. She said, "I'm sorry you had to go through so much hassle, and thank your boss for being concerned for our welfare here at Ilvermorny."
Ms. Evans smiled. She said, "I heard about what went on at Hogwarts when your father went there. MACUSA takes education at any educational institution very seriously."
Lily's stomach growled then, and they both laughed. Ms. Evans looked at the clock and said, "Oh my. I didn't realize that we had been talking for that long. You've missed lunch hour. Quincy!"
An elf popped into the office then. "Yes miss?"
Ms. Evans said, "Lunch for two, please." Quincy popped out. Ms. Evans turned to Lily and continued, "I do hope you won't mind joining me for a quick lunch."
Lily shook her head no. An hour later, Lily left Ms. Evans office. She made her way to her dorm, but to be stopped by Oliver.
He said, "I've been looking for you for an hour. Your cousin, Renee said that you were in a meeting with Ms. Evans. Everything alrigth?"
Lily said, "Of course. She just wanted to meet me. We talked about different things that I can't discuss."
Oliver said raising an eyebrow, "Nothing inappropriate, I hope?"
Lily said, "Of course not! She wanted to reassure me that she wasn't my grandmother, and other things."
Oliver nodded. They made it to the lake and they sat on the grass. They chatted for the next two hours about everything under the sun. Oliver mentioned that he hoped to become a baseball player like his father, he even played on the house team, and made the school team this year as a starting player.
Lily said, "Congratulations! What position do you play?"
Oliver said, "I play short stop. Nothing really special about that position, but I can also play pitcher. I throw a mean curve-ball and fastball, but I'm mostly a backup pitcher in case they need me."
Lily said, "Renee has been teaching me about the nonmagical sports that the United States has. I would have watched the games last year, but I didn't want to go to them and be like, what the heck is going on."
Oliver said, "I understand that."
They headed back up to the school for supper. Lily's friends were waiting for her. Renee smiled as she saw Lily walking in with Oliver. Oliver bowed to Lily and then joined his friends at their table. Lily blushed and quickly took a seat at one of other tables. She hadn't eaten much at lunch with Ms. Evans and she was starving.
After they were done eating, Lily and her friends went down to the grassy area between the dorms to chat.
Renee said, "So…."
Lily said, "What?"
Deidra replied, "You and Oliver?"
Lily blushed. She said, "In August, while Renee, Julia and I were at the AstroMall getting last minute things including dresses for the Winter dance, we ran into Oliver. He asked to speak to me privately, where he asked me to the first village visit in September. When we got to school, he sent me a note saying that he was looking to the fourth and then asked if we could spend sometime today together."
Brandy whistled.
Julia said, "How'd your little time today go?"
Lily commented, "We talked about various things. He mentioned that he would like to become a professional baseball player like his father and that he made the school team this year as a starting player."
Renee said, "He is good at his position, I've heard from Emily and Henry who love watching the Baseball games in the spring. We'll have to go this year."
Lily nodded. The friends continued talking, especially about what electives they were taking this year and what they were looking forward to learning in each class.
