The first day of classes was the next day. Lily packed her bag and stepped out of her room. She noticed Audrey stepping out of hers and walked over to her. Audrey's face lit up when she saw Lily.

Lily said, "Audrey, its good to see you. How was your holidays?"

Audrey replied as they continued walking, "Good. Father was gone most of the time on a business trip, but he was home for Christmas. How was your holidays?"

Lily went on to tell Audrey that James and Jasmine were now engaged, and that her Uncle Charlie had announced at Christmas dinner that he and his wife were expecting twins. Audrey laughed at that.

In the dining hall, Lily and Audrey split their ways with Audrey going to her friends and Lily joining Julia and Timothy. Deidra, Brandy, and Qiana had other breakfast time. Lily looked around to see if she could find Kathryn and couldn't see her.

Just as they were about to finish their breakfast, Kathryn rushed in. She sat down next to Lily and ordered her breakfast which was just a bowl of cereal and some milk. Lily shook her head.

Kathryn said, "Forgot to set my alarm last night, so be quiet."

Lily giggled. She said, "Remind me to show you the spell for that. I know you have an alarm clock, but I also know those things can be annoying."

Kathryn smiled her thanks. She was soon finished with her cereal. Since they had fifteen minutes before classes began, Lily showed her where the library was and various other things, but heading in the direction of their Charms classroom.

Kathryn commented, "I'm glad I am in the same class sections as you, Lily. It makes it easier for a transition."

Lily said, "It does. There are times I wish we had that in my first year, but a girl by the name of Sarah Millings showed a few of us around on our second day."

Kathryn understood. In Charms class, Ms. Evans smiled her welcome and handed Kathryn the syllabus from the class.

Ms. Evans said, "Ms. Potter, if you don't mind, would you mind stopping by my office this afternoon during your study hall?"

Lily commented, "Not at all, Ms. Evans. May I ask what this is about?"

Ms. Evans said, "You're not in trouble. Its just to give you the schedule for Tennis and talk to you about a few things."

Lily nodded. The rest of the class filed in. Julia and Deidra joined them in their row. Renee joined Thomas on the other side of the room and shot the girls a glare.

Julia sighed. The rest of the day passed quickly. After lunch, Julia took charge of showing Kathryn where the Ancient Runes classroom was. Lily noticed that a few boys were eying Kathryn like a piece of meat, including some in older years. Lily had to admit that Kathryn was very pretty. She had jet black hair with dark brown eyes, that shone when she was happy. Her skin was flawless.

Just as Lily was leaving the hall, she heard her name called. Lily turned and saw Thomas Branton walking towards her. Lily hesitated.

Thomas said, "How are you doing, Lily?"

Lily said, "I'm good, Thomas. I'm on my way to see Ms. Evans who has requested a meeting with me. Is this important?"

Thomas said, "I was hoping to meet with you soon. As you are a member of the tennis team, I thought I would show you our workout room and such."

Lily said, "I think that Mikayla would do that."

Thomas quirked an eyebrow at her. Thomas said, "Mikayla was the team captain last year. Something happened over the summer to where she had to withdraw from the team. I thought you had gotten the notice."

Lily thought back to her emails that she had received. She didn't recall anything of the sort. She said, "I will think about it, Thomas. Now I must be going."

Lily walked briskly to Ms. Evans office. She knocked and was bade to enter. Inside, Ms. Evans was behind her desk, with Lily's file open in front of her. "Glad to see you could make it, Lily."

Lily said sitting down, "I would've been here sooner, but I was waylaid by Thomas Branton."

Ms. Evans said, "Everything ok?"

Lily said, "Can you clarify something for me. He told me that the tennis team captain, Mikayla Johnson is no longer on the team due to something that happened over the summer."

Ms. Evans sat back. She said, "That is one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. Ms. Johnson or as now as she is called, Mrs. Cummings was raped and impregnated with the bastard's child. However, rather than taking her word for it, her parents immediately made her marry said bastard. She is being homeschooled of the remainder of her schooling." Lily was horror struck. "The new team captain is Benjamin Harris."

Lily sat back. She was relieved that Thomas wasn't the new captain. She had noticed that Thomas wasn't spending anymore time with June Lewis. She was worried about him trying to get with her again.

Ms. Evans said, "It is a sad thing that happened. Benjamin is a good man. Here is the Tennis schedule along with their training room number."

Lily took the paper from Ms. Evans and saw that the Tennis season didn't start officially until March when it would be warmer to play on the courts, however, training started February 1st.

Ms. Evans said, "I understand the reason you dropped Quidditch, Ms. Potter. You didn't seem to be at ease on the broom as some of the players, and I know for a fact it isn't your passion. I've talked to Mrs. Cutter and your father. If you need me to speak up for you with George Morrison please say so."

Lily said, "Ms. Evans, I've already talked to George. He is not happy about loosing me as a reserve, but I think he finally understands why I have made the decision that I have made."

Ms. Evans smiled at that. She said, "Now I also wanted to update you with my investigation.." Just then the period bell rang. Ms. Evans sighed. "I guess that will have to wait for another time. Don't want you to be late to your next class."

The rest of the day went quickly. After Herbology, Lily slipped up to the Quidditch training room, and asked to speak with Gregg. Gregg stepped out.

Lily pulled out the tactic book and handed it to him. She said, "As promised."

Gregg said, "I'm sorry that you have to do this, Lily, but like I said before I understand."

Meanwhile in the co-ed dorms for 5th through 7th years, James and his best-friend, Benjamin Harris sat talking.

James said, "I'm worried about Lily being in a building that has Thomas Branton as a prefect."

Benjamin about spit out his cola. He said, "What makes you say that?"

James went on to explain what happened between Thomas and Lily back when Lily was a first year into her second year and how she had to break it off because of his possessiveness.

Benjamin said, "Hmm….That is interesting. Maybe I shouldn't tell you then that Thomas is also on the Tennis team."

James choked on his drink. He said, "Please tell me your joking." Ben shook his head. "Don't let them ever be alone, Ben. I know you made captain since what happened to Mikayla over the summer. I'm sorry to hear about that, by the way."

Ben and Mikayla had been dating prior to this year. Ben was even thinking about proposing, but then he was hit in the gut with the news from Mikayla that she had been raped, and then found out she was pregnant. She then even broke the news that her parents were forcing her to keep the pregnancy and to marry the man that raped her. Ben had been severely heartbroken over that. He had wanted to hunt down Devon Cummings himself and strangle the bastard, but he knew that he couldn't.

James said, "Ben?"

That broke Ben out of his thoughts. "He said, "You have my word, James. I don't want Lily to be in the same situation as Mikayla."

James said, "Our father would kill the bastard whoever tried something like that with Lily, that's if there is anything left over after I get a hold of them before him."

Ben smiled. Harry Potter was world-known for being formidable.

The next day, Lily decided to go and work out in the training room for the team. There she found a few girls working out. She noticed Sarah was there.

Sarah smiled at her and said, "Lily! Welcome to the team. Let me introduce you to the other starters that are here. You know Heather Young. Then there is fourth year, Stephanie Harris, and finally you have a fellow third-year, Jewel Ellington."

Lily nodded to each girl. She recognized Jewel from several of her classes. Stephanie was a blue-eyed blonde, and Jewel was a brunette with hazel eyes. Sarah then walked through the training regimen that they used for the workouts. Lily was of course welcome to use her own, but this is something that Mikayla worked for the females of the team. The males had their own workout.

Lily went into the changing room, and changed into her workout clothes. As she was coming out, she heard jazz music playing by where Jewel was on the bicycle. She recognized it as music that her father listened to. Lily stepped up onto the treadmill for her warmup. Jewel was watching her. She had noticed that Lily had recognized the music. It was made by her great-great grandfather, Edward Kennedy Ellington, also known as the Duke Ellington. He was a famous jazz musician.

Just as Lily was finishing up with her warm-up, Jewel was finishing up with her bicycle work out. Lily said, "Nice music you were listening to."

Jewel said, "Thank you. It was by great-great grandfather, Edward Ellington."

Lily stopped on her way to the bicycle. She said, "Your related to the Duke?"

Jewel said, "Yep. How did you hear about him. He passed away in the seventies."

Lily said, "My father is into jazz music. Says it helps him calm down. He has a few records of Duke Ellingtons."

Jewel smiled. She said, "Glad to see some people still listen to his music."

They talked for a bit longer, but Lily wanted to finish her workout and shower before supper. Jewel was almost finished.

After her workout, Lily went and showered in her dorm, and then went to supper. All her friends were there.

Julia said, "Where were you? We looked all over."

Lily said, "I was in the workout room for my tennis team."

Deidra said, "I forgot you were on the tennis team."

Everyone else murmured their agreement.
