Grindelwald's New Pet
A/N: So apparently there's a creature in Fantastic Beasts: Secrets Of Dumbledore called a qilin. I have no idea how you pronounce that name, but while I was looking up the various ways of pronouncing qilin, I had this plot bunny.
"What is this?" Grindelwald asked, frowning as the Obscurial presented him with a small terracotta figurine.
Credence and Vinda Rosier exchanged nervous glances. They had done their best to follow Grindelwald's orders, but they weren't exactly sure if they'd brought him the creature he'd been looking for.
"It's a Chia Pet." Credence placed the figurine on the table in front of his master. "I'm sorry, we didn't see any of the lin variety... I know from my studies that lin are females and the males are referred to as ch'i. But look, it's a cute little cat, sir. That's good, isn't it?"
A muscle twitched over Grindelwald's left eye. "I asked you to bring me a qilin," he hissed, speaking in a voice of deathly calm. "It's pronounced chee-ah-lin, Aurelius. Qilin."
"Yes?" Credence didn't seem to follow. "And you wanted the Chia for a pet?"
Grindelwald sighed. "And what am I supposed to do with this?"
"I think you're supposed to spread the seeds on it and water it, sir. The instructions say that it'll take three to four days for the seeds to sprout."
The Obscurial was trying his best, he really was. It was just a simple misunderstanding, thinking that Grindelwald requested some sort of cute and cuddly animal planter.
Credence opened the box and removed a sheet of paper. He then moved towards the flickering candles and began reading the instructions to his master.
Grindelwald listened patiently, his look of displeasure slowly beginning to fade. "I suppose it isn't all bad," the dark wizard admitted. "You did bring me a kitty, which is acceptable... And adorable. I'll keep it, but next time you'd better bring me an actual qilin, Aurelius."
