Adam awoke a few hours later to a wetness on his chest. It confused him but when he opened his eyes he saw Kim was in the middle of a nightmare. She wasn't thrashing around but she was definitely crying. He gently shook her trying to wake her but not scare her awake. "Kim darling. You are having a nightmare. I need you to wake up sweetheart." Adam whispered as he shook her. Kim buries her face further in to his chest but doesn't wake. He did notice the tears subsided. He took that as a win and curled up to fall asleep again. The next he woke he found both kids laying in the bed on top of him and Kim. He wasn't sure how that happened but he didn't care. This was a great way to be woken up in the morning.
Adam looked over to see Kim smiling while watching a video with the kids. He thought about how this could be the every day going forward. "Good morning!" Adam said quietly trying to make his presence known but not scare them. "Daddy!" Riley launched himself onto Adams chest for a hug while they all laughed. It was adorable. "Good morning! We were trying to let you sleep in some." Kim smiled watching Riley snuggling with his daddy. "Thank you I appreciate that. How are you this morning Ms Allie.? You have been super quiet. Are you feeling okay?" Adam was concerned, normally she was loud and always smiling. She shook her head head and buried it in Kim's neck. Kim handed her phone to Adam so he could see why she was upset.
Kim had woken up to a text saying Allies dad, Eric, wasn't sure he was able to come visit her on Friday like he was supposed to. It crushed Allie. Her little heart was broken. "Oh sweetheart. I'm so sorry. How about we go out for breakfast today? And you pick the place?" Adam suggested hoping she would smile again. "Yes! Thank you!" Allie jumped up and ran to her room to get ready. Kim smiled wide before kissing Adam. "Thank you for this. You made her day." Kim got up and started to get ready. "We just need to stop by my place to put on fresh clothes and then we can head out." Adam was happy watching Allie smile again. He knew all about childhood disappointment and he would do anything to avoid it.
They headed into the living area to see Allie was dancing around excited to go to her favorite place for breakfast. "Okay well let's get going sweetheart. We need to make a stop first then we will be on our way. You just have to tell me where we are going." Adam walked over towards her with Riley on his hip. "Bobs Grill!" Allie yelled jumping up and down. Kim and Adam laughed at how excited she was. "I should have known you would pick that place. You always pick it." Kim just laughed as they left her place and headed for the cars. They moved Riley's car seat to Kim's car so she could drive since she knew where to go. They stopped at Adams for all of a few minutes to change his and Riley's outfits. As they drove to the restaurant the kids sang along to the radio making the adults laugh along.
As they arrived at the restaurant Adam laughed seeing the logo on the restaurant. "Eat and get the hell out? Really? That's hilarious! I'm so glad we came here." Adam opened the door for them and helped get Riley situated in the high chair. They sat and ordered their breakfast while Allie told Adam all about the things she wanted to do today since her dad wasn't going make it now. Kim reminded her it was still possible but Allie wouldn't hear of it. So they ate breakfast before driving to the aquarium. Allie loved it and so did Riley, it was a great afternoon. They also went to the butterfly garden, several stores and the park before heading home for dinner. They were all exhausted and the kids had not take naps so Kim insisted that the kids take a short nap while she made dinner for them all. Even Adam took a nap while Kim cooked.
Adam woke and saw Kim was still cooking, he decided to say something about her nightmare. She hadn't mentioned it and she seemed fine all day. "Hey Kim. Can I talk to you about something?" Adam asked as he walked into the kitchen. "Yeah what's going on?" Kim asked as she walked closer towards him thinking something was wrong. "Um listen I just wanted to talk to you about the fact you had a nightmare last night. It didn't seem that bad but did you want to talk about it?" Adam pulled her into his chest. "I didn't know that I had one. How did you know?" Kim asked shocked, she didn't remember. "I felt something wet on my chest. You were crying. I whispered to you and you snuggled closer and the tears stopped. I figured it wasn't that bad if it hadn't woken you." Adam hugged her tighter
"I truly don't remember but you are right it couldn't have been the worse. When they are bad I thrash, wake up soaked in sweat. I do remember a dream with you in it. But it wasn't a bad dream. It was lovely actually. We were dancing, flowers everywhere, I was crying, but it was happy tears. That I remember. Maybe that's why I didn't wake up." Kim looked up smiling at Adam as he leaned down to kiss her lips. "Well that sounds amazing. And I'm excited that nothing seemed to be triggered from last night. That is massive progress my dear." He kissed her slowly before going to wake the kids. Kim was plating up dinner when Adam came back into the room with a kid on each hip.
"Well someone looks happier after having a nap!" Kim tickled her daughters belly. Adam held her tighter so she wouldn't fall as she squirmed around. "Alright I know someone who is very hungry and for once it's not me. So let's sit down and eat." Adam laughed as he heard Riley's belly rumble from hunger. "Come on Ry, eat up." Adam cut up his food into small pieces for his son to eat faster. "So what are we going to do tonight?" Kim asked the group. "Mini golf please!" Allie asked. "Sure of course. How about we hit the one on the beach road since Riley is so small it will be easier for him to play." Kim was quick to agree because she liked it too. "I'm so down. But I'm gonna Win!" Adam laughed out as he egged Allie on. Both girls just laughed back at him.
They ate with friendly competitive banter being shot back and fourth. It was a fun night so far and they just hoped it continue. Kim heard her phone ringing but chose to ignore it, she didn't like answering the phone at dinner with her daughter. Allie deserved her full attention, especially here since she's not on call. However the ringing continued and she got concerned enough to check it out. "Sorry I will be right back." Adam waved it off like it was nothing because to him it wasn't an issue. He didn't know Kim's rule about that. He could hear her on the phone and she seemed annoyed. "We are in the middle of dinner. I want Allie to focus on eating her food, you know that. Can she just call you back when she's done?" Kim was frustrated. Adam obviously couldn't hear the other end of the conversation but her tone was clear. "Look we are here on your turf, you are less than 2 hours away. Be here on Friday or I'm going to rethink things and you don't want that. You better not let her down and let me down." Kim was pissed Adam could hear it clear. "Fine talk again in less than an hour. Oh and when you are here you and I need to have an important talk. Talk soon bye." Kim hung up and left her phone to return to dinner.
"Sorry about that. Allie daddy wants to talk to you after dinner. So as we are driving to mini golf you can call him back Okay?" Allie seemed excited to talk to him but Kim could see she was still hurt from this morning. She was like Kim with that, she felt things deeply and didn't forgive easily. "Okay. I hope he comes Friday." Allie mumbled as she ate. Both Adam and Kim saw the light in her eyes dim once again. It broke their hearts. "Well either way we will have a super fun day I promise you that!" Kim tried to make Allie smile but it was too late. She was sad again and not focused on eating, which Kim knew was an issue. When she was upset she didn't eat and that was always bad. "Allie please finish your dinner. You know you need to eat all your food so you can big and strong." Kim pleaded. Adam could see the hurt on both their faces at this point. "How about ice cream after mini golf for anyone who eats their whole dinner?" Adam suggested hoping to make Allie eat again. It seemed to work but she was still sad looking.
"Riley would like more?" Kim asked noticing he was finished his plate. "Yes peas!" Riley smiled wide loving the extra attention and food. As Kim plated more food for him Adam just watched smiling. When they finished eating they cleaned up the kitchen and headed towards the car. Once the kids were buckled in Kim started the call to Eric and handed Allie the phone, Kim's heart sank but tried not to show it. Adam just squeezed her hand letting her know they would work it out. Kim noticed that she had but the phone on speaker without even realizing it. Secretly she was happy about that. "Hey my little Allie! I miss you so much!" Eric says as he hears her voice. "Hi daddy! Are you coming to visit me Friday?" Allie asked timidly. "Um yeah I will be there I have to move a few things around but I will be there. I may have to take a call or two but I will be there." Eric explained. He heard Kim sigh loudly but chose to ignore it. "Okay daddy I'm happy you are coming. I can't wait to show you how good my swimming skills are now! I'm doing so good! And you don't have to take me to the butterfly garden because mommy and Adam and Riley already did. I know you don't like it!" Allie was excited to see her dad now and had no idea talking about Adam wasn't a good thing.
"Allie. Who's Adam and Riley? Where did you meet them?" Eric asked confused and very concerned. "Adam is mommy's friend from before the bad man hurt her. And Riley is his son. They are so much fun! And mommy smiles so much more now. I think they are boyfriend and girlfriend but they haven't said anything. They were sleeping next to each other this morning but he was on top of the covers so I'm not sure." Allie explained having no clue that both Adam and Kim were bright red, totally embarrassed by this conversation. "Oh well your mother and I will need to talk about this when I get there. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with this." He knew he was on speaker but didn't care. Learning about it like this annoyed him. "Okay well I have to go we are going mini golfing now. Good night daddy!" Allie hung up quickly having realized that daddy was angry.
"Sorry mommy and Adam!" Allie felt so bad about it. "It's okay sweetie. I was going to tell him on Friday anyway. But yes Adam and mommy are together. And we hope you are okay with that." Kim explained as simply as possible. "As long as you keep smiling and Adam stays nice then it's cool." Allie answers which caused both adults to laugh. "I promise to always make your mom smile and if she's not I promise to make her smile again. And I will always be nice to you and your mom. I will always protect you and your mom and I will do my best to never let you or your mom down. I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you guys and my son." Adam was surprised by his own words but he truly went them. Kim was crying happy tears and Allie was beaming with pride. Riley was just watching not understanding any of it.
"Does that mean Adam and Riley will be around more often?" Allie asked curiously. "Yes they will. But you and I will still have plenty of time together." Kim hoped Allie would really be okay with all this. "That's cool. But I can still see daddy right?" Allie asked as this was all new to her. "Yes sweetie. Nothing will change with your dad. Our little family is just getting a little bit bigger." Kim was adamant that nothing was going to change, maybe getting better but life wouldn't change for the worse. "Okay. Can we golf now please?" Allie was excited to get out the car and play. It was still early and this course was empty. It was older and run down but perfect for a 2 year old to play on. Adam insisted on paying for mini golf as Kim had cooked several days that week. It was very kind.
"Okay so you guys feel free to play ahead. It's going to take Ry awhile to get through this course. I don't want him to hold you two back." Adam gave Kim a kiss before they headed onto the course. Allie was having a blast and so was Riley but he really didn't have the hang of it. But he enjoy hitting the ball around. It was around 2 hours before Allie was finished and Riley was still playing around. "How's it going?" Kim called out to Adam. "He's still hitting it around but he's getting tired. I think we are okay to leave." Adam chuckled as he watched his son yawning and rubbing his eyes. "Okay let's head out then, get some ice cream and back to our place. We can talk some and maybe more." Kim winked as they walked to the car. Adam stood there slack jawed.
"Adam let's go!" Kim laughed knowing what she had done to him. They headed to the closest ice cream place where they got dessert for Allie since Riley was asleep already. Kim took her inside while Adam stayed in the car with his son. When Kim returned she brought ice cream for them all including Riley. They could freeze it for later. "Thank you for this. I appreciate it greatly." Adam kissed Kim before digging in. After they finished they headed home, they put the kids to bed before Adam headed back to his place to grab some stuff for him and Riley for over night and the next day. He wasn't gone long as he was excited to get some alone time with Kim.
When he returned they sat in the porch area again to talk more. They still had lots to catch up on but they luckily the worst stuff was out of the way. "So what should we talk about tonight?" Kim asked as settled against Adams chest. "Well I want to ask about some uncomfortable things but also regular stuff. Is that okay?" Adam wanted to make sure she was Okay first. "Yeah. We need to be open about everything so ask away." Kim was an open book with Adam so she was game for this. "Okay most uncomfortable thing first.i never asked the other day. How long is your rapist in jail for?" Adam hugged her as he asked. "For life! He got charged with several offenses and it wasn't his first time so they gave him life without the possibility of parole. So he can't hurt anyone else." Kim smiled thinking that she had don3 good by getting him put away for life.
"Amazing! I'm thrilled to hear that! Okay so next question, slightly uncomfortable. Tell me about your first time, aside from the rape." Adam laughed as Kim smacked his leg. "Well this is strange but yes we should talk about it all. Um yeah I was 17, super cringe worthy moment. Also super cliche. Drunk, after prom, in the back of his car. "Well it was also pretty horrible. Don't judge but I was 15, she was 16. I was not her first, more like 3rd. I had no idea what I was doing, it was so awkward and uncomfortable. I didn't try again till I was 17. I felt peer pressure to do it like everyone else and I did but I shouldn't have." Adam rested his head on Kim's. They just fell into a silence. "Well I have a super cringe idea. When we decide we are ready how about we go all out, wine, flowers, music?" Kim looked back to see his reaction. "I actually love that idea. It can't replace the bad but it would be a really romantic first for us. I love it!" Adam kissed her softly. "Another awkward question but some thing I need to know for the future. Birth control? Are you on it?" Adam asked knowing it was important for their future. "Um yes I am. I actually have the implant in my arm. It's the last year of it. In December I need to decide if I'm going to do again or change to another form." Kim answered honestly.
"Okay well whatever you decide I support. It's your body so you are in charge. I also wanted to ask about your experience in the bedroom. "That would be correct. Even someone attempting would start a panic attack." Kim looked down in shame. "Well I would like to think we could over come that together. As like the day before they checked on both kids before heading to Kim's bedroom. As he laid her down he closed and the door and locked it. He came back over to join her on the bed. "What are you thinking about right now?" Adam asked her, she seemed deep in thought. "You. Me. Us. How amazing it's been to be around you again. How wonderful you have been with my issues and with my daughter. I never let anyone get close to us and now I know why. I have been waiting for you." Kim cried happy tears as she spoke about her feelings. Adam had no words in that moment so he pulled her in for a slow languid kiss. He poured all his love and emotions into the kiss. Kim moaned into the kiss before reaching up to lock her hands behind his head.
Adam took a chance and slowly moved his hand under her shirt. Caressing her skin as they continued to make out. Kim pulled away slightly to pull his shirt off. She loved his abs and loved touching them. He slightly asked if he could also remove her shirt, when she nodded he continued. Adam was amazed by how far Kim had come in just two days, how about she was with him. But he absolutely loved it, it filled him with pride. "Kim I want you to know I'm so proud of you. Adam kissed her but Kim pushed him onto his back before climbing on top to start kissing him. He was stunned but loved it. He held her hips to keep her steady.
"How far are we taking this tonight?" Adam asked curious to see how far she was willing to go again. "I don't know. I just wanted to feel your skin on mine." Kim shrugged. She really had t thought about it but wanted physical contact with him. "Okay how about we adjust how we are sitting so it won't strain your back." Adam adjusted so his back was up against the head board and Kim was still sitting in his lap. It was easier to just lean forward to make out again, hands roaming their bodies. Kim took control kissing down his neck to his chest. Her hands roamed over his chest and found his abs. Adam eventually flipped them back over, he wanted to taste her skin again. Adam pleaded with his eyes. "Um I thought maybe we could you know, um shower together. But it was a stupid idea." Kim turned away but Adam grabbed her waist turning her around and planting his lips on hers. "It's not a stupid idea at all. It's shocking yes, but not stupid. How about we check on the kids before getting in just in case." Adam kissed her forehead before they headed towards the kids.
Allie was starfishes in her bed. She looked crazy but adorable. Riley was in the same spot sound asleep. The couple headed back to Kim's room to shower. They both had nervous energy running through their bodies but they were excited as well. This was a huge step for Kim and Adam was just so damn proud of her. When they finished showering Adam helped dry Kim's body before she headed into the bedroom to dress. He watched her go wrapped up in his own thoughts about how amazing this week has been so far. He couldn't wait to get back to Chicago, to take her on a real first date. They had never done that really so he wanted to do things right this time. No hiding, everything out in the open. Public dates, family time, holidays together. He could see it so clearly. His only concern was Kim's ex, Allies dad, what if he didn't approve would that hurt their relationship. He knew he would get the answer tomorrow but for now he just wanted to curl up with Kim in his arms and sleep. The way it should always be.
