It had been a week and Kim needed to make a decision. She was still torn. She had yet to receive the apology from Roman so she was torn. Adam had given his opinion but said nothing after that. It was Kim's decision to make so he stayed out of it. He had hope she wouldn't take him back as a partner but she had to make that call alone. She still had the weekend to make the final decision so she was thinking long and hard. Tonight however was a date night with Adam. She was excited, they had never been on a real date before. So both kids were staying with their grandparents for the night so neither Kim nor Adam had to rush it.
Kim had talked to her parents about Adam and they were shocked. Not just because she had a boyfriend but because she knew him before the rape. They never suspected that Kim had a boyfriend then and now to find each other again was kind of unreal. They wanted to meet him but Kim wanted to hold off a bit. But she wasn't hiding how happy she was with him. And she wasn't hiding the love she felt for him. After dropping off her daughter Kim headed home to get ready for her date. She wasn't sure where Adam was taking her but she wanted to look good for her date.
Adam had a ton of energy to burn off. He was nervous but also super excited about the night. He planned a nice dinner out and he got flowers for her. He wanted to do it right. She was special and he wanted her to know that. His father had picked Riley up an hour ago so Adam was trying to get dressed. He changed his mind several times. He finally decided on a suit that was nice but not fancy. It worked for must situations so it was his go to suit. Once he was dressed he headed to get flowers. He wasn't sure Kim's favorite flower so went for what was pretty and not the basic roses.
Kim's room was a mess trying to decide what to wear. She finally went with a black dress that was fitted but not too short. She had been texting Erin pictures of each outfit trying to fund the right one. Black was basic and safe for most situations so she decided on this one. After picking out her shoes and jewelry Kim headed to the bathroom to finish her hair and make up. She was cutting it close but wanted to look perfect for their first date. As the door bell rang Kim felt butterflies take flight in her belly. She was really excited now but still nervous. They hadn't had alone time really ever so this was a big deal for them both.
Adam awaited the door opening with nervous energy. He hoped he looked as good as he felt. He wanted to impress her with the effort he put in to tonight. He heard the door unlock and we waited with baited breath as he watched it open to reveal a very stunning looking Kim. "Wow! Darling! You look stunning!" Adam kissed her softly before handing her the flowers and following her inside. "Well you look pretty dapper yourself!" Kim put the flowers in water before she turn to kiss Adam properly.
"So we have reservations so we should probably get going." Adam suggested even though he hadn't let go of Kim yet. "I mean we are supposed to eat right?" Kim shrugged not really wanting to leave his arms but she was hungry and dressed so that meant going. "Yup! We have plenty of time later. Just me and you. No kids, no distraction, just us." Adam winked at Kim as he opened the door so they could leave. The drive was filled with small talk, nothing crazy just two people enjoying their company. "I hope you don't mind Italian food. Monteverde is one of the hottest new places in the west loop area. Figured we should check it out. The owner was on Top Chef and used to work at another amazing place here in Chicago." Adam figured it was safe. Most people were good with pasta. "Sounds perfect! I don't get to do fancy often so let's do it!" Kim was excited to see this place. It sounded great and she loved pasta so it was perfect.
After parking they headed to the restaurant with Adams arm guiding Kim. Also he just wanted to touch her so he could help himself. As they entered right away Kim loved that you could see in to the kitchen. It was kind of like a show with your meal. They were escorted to table close to the kitchen area to watch all the magic happen. "I'm glad we are doing this. Just being a normal couple. It feels really good." Kim admitted as she looked into Adams eyes. "I agree! It feels almost like a dream but I'm realizing the dream is my reality now. You are here and you are not going to disappear." Adam's words broke Kim's heart. "I'm so sorry about all of that Adam. I wish I could change the past but I can't. Best I can do is make sure it doesn't happen again." Kim squeezed his hand before continuing.
"I told me parents, both sets, about us. They were surprised but happy for us. I even confessed to us being together back then. I think that was more of a shock then us dating now." Kim and Adam laughed knowing that must not have been the most fun conversation. "I also talked to Dr Charles about us on Wednesday. It's strange this is the first time we are talking about it but anyway. He thinks it's really positive that we found our way back to each other. He also was surprised by how things were going with intimacy. But encouraged that I'm feeling comfortable enough to allow it while sober. It said that some times it just takes the right person to help a person become more comfortable. Sometimes it never gets better and some people just need time. But he overall was very happy to hear the progress and is looking forward to hearing more progress. So it was a very good appointment." Kim knew it was a lot she just unloaded but she wanted him to know she was trying to make progress all around.
"Sounds like it was a good appointment then. Not gonna lie I was afraid he would think we were moving too fast considering what you have been through. But I'm happy he saw it as good news." Adam was relieved to know Kim's therapist was on their side and saw the positive in all this. "I was pretty nervous too. I value his opinion. And know that he's only looking out for me so being on the same page helps a lot. He was also impressed with the fact I don't have nightmares when we sleep next to each other. And after we have been physically intimate. Obviously we still have a test ahead of us but so far it's encouraging." Kim shrugged knowing he understood what she was referring to. "We will get there and when we do it will be great. I promise." Adam was thrilled with where we're headed and yes he wished they could have sex but he knew her mental health was more important so it was on her time.
They ordered food and continued talking about the kids and the last few days since they had been busy and hadn't caught up. "How's it going with the unit? Do you feel like you are fitting in?" Kim asked as they were eating dinner. "Um yeah. Still trying to find the perfect groove but it's been nice. They are great people, supportive. And it's been nice to catch up with Erin and Jay. When we have free time we talk about the in between times, when we lost touch. And I'm really trying to connect with Kevin since he was your first partner and one of your best friends." Adam knew that relationship was important to Kim so it was important to him as well. "Thank you for that! He is a really great guy. A giant teddy bear. A really good soul, big heart but he can and will beat your ass." Kim laughed remembering the days Kev could literally lift someone by the throat without any effort.
"Yeah he seems like a really good guy. And something strange but I see someone watching us. Use your phone camera like you are taking a selfie. Over your right shoulder." Adam wasn't sure who it was but he found it interesting. "Okay? Let me look." Kim took out her phone which she placed in her bag so it was not a distraction to see who it was. "Oh yeah ignore him. We went on a few dates, bolted when he heard I had a kid. Nothing serious." Kim groaned not wanting the night to be ruined. "Cool. Glad it didn't last long since he's obviously a douche. But he's not going to ruin my night with you. Let's finish up and we can head out." Adam didn't care about that guy at all. He dated too so it wasn't a big deal. And she had no feelings for the guy that was clear. So he moved on.
After paying for dinner they headed for the door but they didn't make it before the man called out her name. Kim kept walking while Adam turned around. "Look man. I don't know you and I don't want to. But you bolted cause she had a kid? That's pretty shitty. Leave her alone. Don't contact her. Have a great night on your date!" Adam walked towards Kim who was smirking at him. "Well now that was hot!" Kim winked as she walked into the dark night. Adam jogged to catch up to her. "Really? Should I go back and yell at him some more?" Adam laughed knowing he wouldn't actually do it. "You ready to head home?" Kim asked as she placed her hands on his pecs. Adam nodded leading her to the car so they could drive home to Kim's.
As they entered the home Kim locked the door behind her. "Make yourself at home." Kim puts her stuff in the table and takes off her shoes before moving to the couch where Adam was sitting currently. "Are you really not going to sit on me. I have been dying to kiss you for hours now!" Adam growled as he lifted her and placed her in his lap. As soon as she was seated he attacked her mouth with his. Kim bit his lower lip causing Adam to moan loudly. And it didn't just a slight moment. It's gonna happen even after we go through everything. Anxiety and Panic can come from no where sometimes. A moment doesn't have to define this night." Kim hoped her words got through to him. He nodded before moving in to kiss her again. He rested his hand on her abs to feel tension. Her words helped but he still wanted to take things slower to keep her relaxed.
Adam kissed down Kim's neck finding her pulse point and sucking softly before he moved down to her breast. "I'm gonna remove your bra now." Adam heard him moan so he smiled and continued he quest to remove the bra. Once removed it was flung across the room. Kim laughed hearing it flying across the room. Adam asked as he nuzzled in to her neck. "Yes. It's fine. Should we go to sleep?" Kim asked as she rested her cheek on his head. "Maybe but I'm enjoying this. I love holding you, your skin pressed up against me. This my own personal heaven." Adam whispered as he kissed her neck. He pressed his hands onto her back so more skin was touching. "Heaven sounds amazing right now." Kim whispered back as she played with his hair.
Today was the day Kim thought in her mind. They had been back together for a month and was truly head over heels in love with Adam. She was scared shitless but she thought it was time. She needed help figuring it off for sure so she called the one person she could always talk to, Erin. "Hey are you busy right now?" Kim asked as she paced the room. "No. What's going on? I can hear you pacing." Erin said looking around the bullpen. The case was finished but they needed to get paperwork done. Erin's was done for the most part so the rest could wait. "I think it's time. And I'm freaking out. And I want it to be perfect and I'm nervous. What if he doesn't? What if it's not?" Kim sank onto the bed. "Okay that's a ton of what ifs. How about I come over and we talk?" Erin offered knowing it was the only way. Kim agreed before hanging up. Erin told Voight she was taking some personal time and would be back before telling Jay the semi truth. She didn't want to put all of Kim's business out there. Adam raised an eye brow at her. "Kim's in a fashion crisis. Don't worry! It's all good!" Erin left before he could respond.
Kim was still pacing when Erin arrived letting herself in. "Okay I'm here! First it's going to be great! You both love each other like crazy. You have unbelievable chemistry between you two. No man would turn you down unless he was gay and even then I'm not sure. Kim you guys have been dancing around it since you got back together. It's over due, even with your issues. Let the man do his thing and then support you afterwards." Erin sat down on the bed looking at Kim who was still freaking out.
"We had this plan that since both our firsts were terrible we wanted to do this right. It's super cringe but candle light, music, flowers. I need help doing this. Please can you help me." Kim looked up to see Erin half laughing half crying. "Yes I will help you. And it's not super cringe, it's adorable. You both want to replace those bad experiences with good ones and that's okay. So let's hit the mall. Might I recommend battery operated candles so they can stay lit while you are at dinner?" Erin knew it would set a better mood if it was done already before they walked in. And it would be a surprise for Adam.
"Yes let's go so you can get back to work." They took separate cars to the mall to get everything they needed plus a few extra surprises for Adam. She really wanted this night be special and she knew he would expect it. She was beyond nervous knowing she was going to be sober for the first time during sex. She wasn't sure how to handle that but Erin's right. They danced around it, they came close so many times. It was time. After shopping Kim headed home with everything and more to set the mood in her room. The extra surprises she hid in her closet for later. It wasn't much but it was the thought and meaning behind it that was important to her.
As she set the candles around the room in groups to create soft lighting the nerves become stronger but it was Adam. She could do this, she could do anything with him. She found soft music to play on loop for hours and even spread flower petals on the bed. She then took a shower and started to get dressed. Adams first surprise went on before she put her clothes on. Strangely she felt empowered in the moment but didn't give it much thought. She finished getting ready just as the door bell rang. Kim ran to answer the door knowing it was Adam.
"Hey! Come on in!' Kim kissed him quick before heading to grab her shoes and purse. "Well hello! I see your fashion crisis was averted." Adam winked as Kim as she laughed. "Yes it was. So let's head out." Kim led Adam out the door not wanting to ruin any surprise. Dinner tonight was more casual still a nice restaurant. They talked about work and how Kim was getting along with her new partner. Kim had ultimately decided to go with a new partner. She could never forgive Roman for what he said so she needed to move on. She had several temporary partners before getting partnered up with Julie Tay. They worked well together and she was solid.
"So I have something I want to give you. It's nothing big but I really want you to have it." Kim handed him a very small box that was lite. "Thank you but you know I don't need anything." Adam wasn't sure what was happening till he opened the box to see a key. "Wait is this for your house?" Adam looked up with tears in his eyes. "Yes baby! I want you to be able to come and go as you please. Middle of the night, middle of the day. Just come over." Kim smiled wide knowing how emotional he got at this simple gesture. "Thank you! I love it and I love you! This means the world to me." Adam cried almost embarrassed but completely happy.
They finished dinner holding hands the entire time. Both smiling like idiots. The happiness literally shining through them. Neither could remember a time when they were happier. Kim knew it would pale in comparison to the main event later but this was pretty close to perfect. When they left the restaurant Adam kept bumping his hip into Kim's before laughing lightly. He was absolutely giddy and couldn't wait to take Kim home and kiss her entire body till she came. He didn't know what was waiting at home for him was even better. He just enjoy this blissful moment in time.
Adam used his key to unlock the door when they arrived. Stating he wanted to make sure it worked. Kim laughed, like she didn't try that already? They moved further in placing their items down and taking off their shoes as they walked towards the kitchen for a drink. Kim decided to have some wine to,calm her nerves a bit. Adam also took a glass. It wasn't his favorite thing but he could drink it. After a few sips he placed his glass down before taking Kim's out of her hands and placing it down. He slowly pulled Kim into a slow but passionate kiss. As it moved more intense he moved them to her room. As he opened the door he was struck with the scene before him. His jaw hit the floor.
"Kim? Are you saying you are ready?"
