It had been a few days since the concert and the family had enjoyed their drama free weekend. Though it wasn't lasting long enough. Adam had been called in early for a case so Kim was left with both kids again. As she dropped off the kids she got a message from Eric asking for a phone call. She called him right away concerned. She was in shock as she headed into the bullpen for work. "Darling? You okay?" Adam asked seeing her face. "Um yeah I just got off the phone with Eric. He told me that his brother, Greg apparently got into a verbal argument with his girlfriend/wife whatever she is, anyway she physically assaulted him. Breaking his nose and cheekbone. She was arrested, held on 15k bond. She has a bail hearing next week, I'm thinking about going. Like who the fuck beats a disabled man during an argument over her drinking too much. It's just insane. Obviously I can't take Allie with me. She can't see that. I don't even know what to do." Kim dropped her bag and her shoulders.

"Okay that's insane! If you really want to go, go. I will take care of the kids. It's not an issue. I promise. He's going to need support and lots of it. Poor guy." He hugged Kim knowing she needed it but also knowing everyone heard what she said. "Can i ask, what is wrong with him? Like I know he is sick but what happened to make his life this crazy?" He had no idea what happened to this guy. "Oh lord it's a long ass story. Not now but I promise I will tell you the whole story later. It's a crazy ride for sure. Makes my life look like a cake walk." Kim shrugged. "I highly doubt that but yes let's talk later." The couple returned to the case trying to make quick work of the case. Kim was busy working hard trying to find anything that could help but they noticed she was too focused and hadn't eaten or drank anything in hours. Adam headed to the break room to grab her a snack and a water. He noticed Jay followed him.

"Just so you know the story is pretty intense. And pretty heartbreaking. The guys first wife was one of Kim's best friends. She lost her friend because of the divorce. Gave her a whole new reason not to trust people. Good luck!" Jay nodded as he left a shocked Adam behind. He recovered quick enough to get the items for Kim. He walked over putting them the items in front of her. "You need to eat and drink. Please don't forget that." He watched her smile as he headed back to his desk. The case moved on with lots of dead ends and the team was frustrated. Adam couldn't take it anymore and decided to grab lunch for everyone. He knew they needed it and he needed the fresh air. He was plagued by hearing Kim lost one of her best friends in the divorce Greg had been through. She had never mentioned it. Maybe it was just too hard to remember. He also wondered how Greg's story could be worse than Kim's. She was raped as a child for gods sake but it would have to wait to hear it.

When he returned the team swarmed him for food, hungry from the long day. He handed Kim her lunch seeing her eyes light up knowing she was starving but he also made sure to get something with her favorite craving in it. Just like her last pregnancy she was addicted to pineapple. And grilled was even better. So this particular Thai place made their fried rice with both cooked and not cooked pineapple. She could have it all. He loved watching her satisfy her craving. She got a dreamy smile and bounced in her seat. It was a child like glee about her. He watched her take the first few bites before returning to work. It wasn't much longer till Voight exited his office heading right for Kim. "Hey um Tay just back from a pretty nasty call. Platt was hoping you could sit with her for a bit. You can bring her up here to the break room for a bit." He watched her nod and headed to the locker room.

Adam looked up confused. "Tay had a rough call. I told Kim to bring her here to sit for a bit. Let them be. They were close even before they were partners." Voight watched Adam nod and head back to work. As long as Kim was good he was fine with it. They watched as Kim brought Tay into the break room with her arm around her. Holding her tight and strong. No one bothered them, just let Kim comfort her friend and partner. Adam watched fondly as Kim even shared her snacks with Tay to help her feel better about the day. Rough calls happened to them all but this was how you got through it, with your support system. 30 minutes later the girls leave the break room. Tay giving Kim one last hug as she headed back to shift. Kim returned to her desk to finish working. She was still leaving at her normal time but she liked to finish her work in a spit that was easy to pick up from. Where it wasn't confusing or someone trying to decipher her notes.

When she finished up she headed out for the day. She needed to get the kids and start dinner. So she really needed to move to make it on time. She waved bye to the team and hugged Adam as she headed out to get the kids. Once both kids were in the car it was filled with non stop chatter but Kim loved it. This was why she stayed on patrol. These moments with the kids. As they arrived home the kids ran off to play with Tiger as Kim cleaned out their lunch boxes and back packs. She loved seeing all their art projects but also seeing how they were doing in school. The laughter filled the living room as the kids played which was just another reason she made the right call years ago.

Dinner was started as the kids continued to play. Kim stayed on her phone most of that time texting with Eric's family trying to figure out what exactly to do. She had very little to no idea so she just decided to talk to Eric later and then talk to Adam. He was much more the level head and could always reason with her. As the family sat down to dinner Kim was pleasantly surprised that Adam arrived home just in time. "Hey! We weren't expecting you." Kim got up to hug him. The kids were overly excited as well. "Guys keep eating we can do snuggles afterwards but eat while it's still hot." He kissed each of their heads before helping himself to dinner. He got to hear all about their days and about Allie upcoming trip to the aquarium. Kim had seen the flyer asking for chaperones in her back pack earlier but didn't think much of it.

Dinner was finished and the kids ushered off to the couch to sit with Adam so they could get their hugs and snuggle time. They always got bummed out when he had to head in before they woke so he soaked up all the extra time he could. When it got closer to bed time Adam took the kids upstairs for bath time. Allie was good at showering in her own now but Riley still needed help. So the kids used separate bathrooms to get showered up. When they were done each kids was dressed in pjs for the night and read a book. They were tucked in before getting a kiss on the forehead and a good night and I love you from both Kim and Adam before they were left to sleep. The couple moved back downstairs to enjoy some quiet time on the couch. "How's Tay doing?" Adam hadn't gotten the chance to ask about it earlier. "Um good. It was a bloody scene apparently. She hasn't worked a ton of homicide scenes so the bad ones bug her a bit still." Kim shrugged knowing it was a long story but not one that really needs to be shared.

"Any more word about Greg?" He asked knowing she promised the long version of the story. "Um the Protection from Abuse was put through. Angi is packing up all the crap that girl owned and giving it to her Aunt. And what the aunt can't take will be placed in the bitches car. Those keys will be given to the aunt as well. It's actually a preliminary hearing on Tuesday at 10am. Bails already been set at 15k and I'm not sure she can make bond. But um they won't let us speak at the hearing. Which of course Eric said he would take a contempt charge just so he could tell her off. I told him to shut up and that's not happening. Other than that nothing else new." She leaned back resting her head on the couch. Neither were surprised by the furry little friend that joined them.

"What's the full story?" He heard her sigh. "Well he grew up emotionally stunted just like Eric did. Though Greg was bipolar but we were always took it was ADHD. Trying to make it sound better. Senior year of high school he tried to kill himself after a break up with his then girlfriend. Um college was pretty normal I guess. He met Elizabeth, Liz. They got married after a few years, bought a house. They had issues. Several miscarriages, not talking about the emotions didn't help them. She started to change, mentally I think as well. Anyway she was cheating on him for a while actually. When she told him she wanted a divorce he tried to kill himself by walking into the highway. He only stepped back when she called out to him. She got him committed and after a week or so said he could go home. Only he gets home to find used condoms in the trash that were fresh. They fight he kicks him out. Driving him to a truck stop for Mark to go get him." She paused moving a bit to look at Adam better.

"He was single for a while but met some dumb chick named Kim who was dumb as a box of rocks. And that is mean to the rocks." Adam laughed. "Like didn't know how to order a breakfast sandwich, um oh yeah asked if you had to fly over the ocean to get to Germany. I couldn't hold back my shocked face." Kim laughed seeing Adam shocked face. "We think he liked her because he got to be the alpha in the relationship. Whereas in his marriage he was not the alpha at all. Anyway they eventually broke up.no hard feelings. He met Jessica who looked the like wife and acted like her too. She was referred to as 2.0. They planned to get married in Jamaica during hurricane season. They pushed hard for everyone to use their travel agent so they got their perks which was going for free. Eric and I weren't together at this point but we thought about going together to save money on the room. But it was 5000 for the week and we couldn't bring Allie because it was an adult only resort. Needless to say we didn't go. Anyway before the wedding he was admitted to the hospital with blinding headaches, dizziness, confusion. They found the drains in the brain well one wasn't open most likely from birth and the other was infected causing brain swelling. So they had surgery done at this podunk hospital. I pleaded them to get a second opinion but was told no other hospital in the area accepted their insurance. So fast forward a year. They are married and we can't stand her already." Kim paused needing to compose herself.

"He just got back from a haul, he was a truck driver, and he couldn't see. He was disoriented, confused, head hurting. His dispatcher called 911. He was taken to the hospital where they determined he had a stroke and brain swelling. They literally had to put a drain in his head. It was horrible to see." She paused again trying to not break. "Um he never regained his sight after that. Jessica saw him as a burden. And treated him as such. They never had their reception because he was still healing and they hoped it would get better. The reception was at the Yogi Bear Camp ground! No joke! And the food was to be provided by Olive Garden, also no joke." Kim was laughing and so was Adam. "Um they eventually fizzled out as she was cheating on him too. After the divorce was final they had their reception which they were now calling their 'happily never after party' where she showed up with her new boyfriend." She paused again seeing Adam shocked again.

"Then came Jamie. Another train wreck and alcoholic. Money issues and lived with her mom. Short lived but he did attempt suicide again during their relationship because he was tried of living like that. Legally blind, disabled, depressed, anxious. She was 3.0. Then this last shit head Marykate. Another alcoholic, trying to get disability benefits for some undiagnosed illness, can't keep her stories straight, she was just nuts. So she was 4.0. They have all had the same body type and issues with controlling him. I'm glad she's gone but wished it hadn't been like this." Kim looked back towards Adam. "Oh and the surgery on his brain that I begged for the second opinion on caused the stroke a year later and Greg is suing the hospital and doctor for malpractice. One second opinion could have prevented all this but because she had his POA she got to fuck him up for life." Kim sank into her seat. Adam could tell she was done with the big details.

"Literally no words! Not sure it makes your life look easy but it's just messed up in a different way. I heard you were best friends with the first wife. What happened there?" He felt her stiffen. "Um yeah we were so close. Would hang out together, go to the movies together, go out to eat together. We would talk for hours on the phone. I even lent them money to buy the house. But she changed. Like I said mentally. I think she was bipolar as well, undiagnosed, unmedicated. But nonetheless she changed. She started cheating on him with two different people that we knew of. One named Eric and one named Mark so she wouldn't get caught talking to them on the phone. She lost a ton of weight, started dressing trashy. I just couldn't even look at her knowing what she did and that he tried to kill himself because of her actions. It hurt a lot." Kim shrugged not really knowing what to say. "Sounds like a lot. I'm sure it was very hard for you. For everyone. I can see why you haven't tried to get to know the other ones. Makes sense you would close off your heart." His words gentle. "Yeah this latest one tried to tell me and Devon she wanted to be friend with us since she knew we were close. I flat out said no. Not happening. She was a level of trashy that I didn't want in my life and she had a level of petty that I didn't know was possible. I'm glad she's gone." Her eyes closed again.

"I'm sorry you lost a friend. And I'm sorry you have had to deal with all that on top of your own things. But it just proves how amazing and caring you are. That after what happened to you, you could still care so deeply for someone else. It's truly amazing. I'm so lucky to have you by my side. Never forget that." He kissed the side of her head as he held her. He was so proud of her for not only how far she has come but also how much she cares about those around her. Her friends, her family, those she sees as family, her partner, the people on her old beat. She was just so amazing to him. And he felt so lucky that he and his children had her in their lives. "How are you doing right now?" He wondered where her head was at. "I don't know. Like I want to be there to support but if I can't say anything I'm not sure it's worth going. I doubt they will change. And even if it does it would probably only be a victim impact statement. And that's not me. So I don't know. Thinking also my hormones are nuts so that's not helping. It's making me want to jump to rash decisions that I wouldn't normally make. So yeah I don't know really." She never opened her eyes just spoke.

"Well I think you should sleep on it and see how you feel in the morning. You might find some clarity." He felt her nod but she stayed silent. It was a bit before she spoke again. "We went to his birthday party one year, the year they told us about the plans for a wedding in Jamaica. I was puzzled when I saw the decorations. My face must have said it loud and clear. But Jessica came over to assure me that Cars was his favorite movie, hence the decor. I was like are you kidding me? He's like 25!" Kim laughed thinking about it. So did Adam. "I do have to admit your facial expressions could get you in a lot of trouble because it says more than your mouth ever does!" He looked at her knowingly but laughing. "I know! It's terrible! But I can't help it! I do try though!" Kim laughed hard trying to defend herself knowing it was a lost cause. "I'm sure you do. But just know it doesn't work often." He laughed again as she tried to look upset. She wasn't, it was the truth.

"Oh pregnancy brain! He has Sarcoidosis too! It's an inflammatory disease that causes him to be in pain all the time. He's on shit tons of meds for that and had to have a hip replacement already from all the steroids. Dude has it rough!" Kim flopped back again. "Holy crap! That horrible! Sounds like he needs lots of help and support. Not trashy girls who boss him around." He shook his head in shock. "Yeah it weakens the immune systems so he's had Covid really, shingles which he was hospitalized for. Any sickness is much worse for him. But yeah it's rough." She leaned more into Adam wanting his body wrapped around hers. "How about we head to bed. You are tired and so am I. So let's get some sleep and see how we feel in the morning." He felt her nod before picking up Tiger. "Good night my buddy. I love you!" She kissed his nose, scratched his head and placed him on the couch. They watched as yawned and fell asleep right where Kim had been sitting. "He's loving the warmth from my butt!" Kim laughed knowing cats did that. "Yup! Little brat!" Adam shook his head again as they headed up. They checked in on the kids before going into their room.

Kim slowly got undressed before grabbing her lotion to work into her skin. Just as she finished her legs Adam came over to rub the lotion in to her belly. He loved doing these things for the baby and for Kim. He never got this the first time around. It was all kept from him. And while he probably wouldn't have done these things for Wendy since they weren't together he still would have loved to support her. But he wasn't given that chance so he was taking every opportunity now to be the best father and best partner to Kim and their children. He then knelt down before her with his hands still on her belly. He placed one kiss on her belly before whispering softly to their child. "Hello my baby. It's your daddy. I love you so much already. I can't wait to meet you but I need you to stay in there as long as you can. I need you to be big and strong when you come out. You are so lucky to be a part of this crazy family but you are not done cooking yet. So stay safe in there and keep being good for you mommy. Love you." He kissed her belly once more before standing again. He watched the tears fall from her eyes.

"You are so incredibly sweet! We are so lucky to have you in our lives." Kim kissed him softly. "I'm the lucky one. The more I learn about your life while we were apart the more I realize how amazing you are. You are the most beautiful person inside and out. I will never be good enough for you but I will try my best day in and day out to be the man you deserve. The father our kids deserve." He kissed her lovingly. "You already are." Kim wrapped her arms around his neck kissing him passionately. "You ready for bed?" He asked sweetly. "Absolutely! I'm exhausted! And snuggling with you is the best medicine." She smiled softly walking towards the bed. He waited till she was comfortable before snuggling in next to her. "Good night my love." Kim kissed his chest as she drifted off. "Good night love of my life." He whispered smiling as he fell asleep beside her.
