Tower buddies: chapter 6

Chapter 6: facing the truths

It had been 9 months since they had arrived in amphibia.

She decided to not think about it. Not like anything important was back home, anyway. She began her duties for the day. First, she was in charge of giving out tasks to everyone.

"Alright, toads. Listen up! Squadron seven, there has been a mantis disturbance around bog bottom. Please just deal with it. Squadron four, there is an unauthorised march in lillypaddington. No need for violence, just break it up."

She continued for the next two minutes, until she was given an hour of free time.

She was a child, after all, and grime realised overworking her wasn't the smartest idea.

She was sitting at the top of the tower, looking off into the distance, when a voice came up behind her.

"Commander Sasha! Just got a letter for you! Apparently from wartwood."

"Ah," Sasha was curious, but also realised she had to hide her excitement. "Yes, that'd be my… contacts there, informing me of any sights of my friends."

"Oh, you guys are still friends," Percy said. "I thought after you went through that, any friend group would break up. I-"

"Yes, Percy, they're still my friends," Sasha said through gritted teeth.

"Well, i'll be going," said Percy, clearly sensing the increasing tension.

She opened the letter- it was from anne.

'Hey sasha.

We're still friends. It's not your fault that you became a commander, that wasn't a mistake, you were just trying to keep us safe. But… they hurt me, sash. They really hurt me. They did bad things, and you can understand why i left. Don't feel bad.

-Anne.'

Sasha teared up. Anne still thought she was talking about making that deal. No, Sasha was guilty about not doing anything. Anne was in constant pain for over 6 months, and being put through horrors, and she was too much of a coward to do anything. And it was even worse that she lied.

Ever since her friends left, Sasha had been more aware of the many things the toads had been doing wrong. Only last week had she been out with them collecting food for the tower and had seen how they had treated the frogs. She had noticed the blatant disrespect they had for others and the fact that they didn't even pay much attention to their job of protecting the valley. And now they had been hurting Anne.

It was time for sasha to do what she did best.

It was time to cause some chaos.

Bog's squad trundled up to wartwood to gather rations. For some reason, some of the documents had been messed up and they had ordered way too little than they needed. Probably just some random toad making a mistake in the paperwork. Typical.

"Alright, boys, we're just here to collect the food, but i know you guys want to enact your revenge, so feel free to do what you want while we're at it," Bog said.

As they went up to the mayor's office, he came out frightened.

"Just point us in the direction of the supplies-"

"Don't think we're doing that."

Bog turned around to a strange cloaked gangly figure wearing a wooden cat mask, holding a sword.

"And who do you think you are?" Asked bog.

"Wouldn't you like to know," they mumbled in a deepened voice before charging in.

The battle was short and easy. The figure completely destroyed the three toads, and they ran to their cart, whimpering.

"And stay out!"

As soon as they were sure the toads were gone, Anne removed her mask.

"And that," anne said to the people in the area, "is how to deal with bog."

They cheered. So this was how you gained respect. Vigilanteism! Who could've guessed?

Out of nowhere, Anne felt a buzz from her phone. It was marcy! She picked it up.

"Hey marcy! Haven't called you since the tower!"

"Yeah, cool. Just wanted to say i'll be able to visit you again soon. You're in wartwood, right?"

"Yup."

"Yeah, i just need to get out of the trouble i'm in."

"Trouble?" Anne asked.

"…yeah, it'll be another two weeks at least."

After some work on the farm and a dinner with the plantars, she sat down in her home, and began to change into her pyjamas. She got a quick glance at the scar on her stomach-

"Anne?"

It was sprig. He'd seen the scar.

"Anne, where did that scar come from?"

Anne nervously laughed. "It's nothing."

Sprig looked at her. "Anne, are you ok?"

Anne sighed. "This was when the toads experimented on me in the tower."

Sprig gasped. "Experimented-"

"Well, what else were they supposed to do to an otherworldly creature?" She asked, almost laughing. But not in a happy way.

"It's not that bad. Not all the toads are brutes. At least some of them seem to be professional doctors-"

And sprig came in for a hug.

Anne sat there for a second, but then smiled and returned it.

Sprig slept on a mattress on the floor so that Anne wasn't alone that night.

Hey again! One: i'm not sure about this chapter. I think it's a little short, so tell me if i should edit it.

Two: the reason i've been uploading so much for this is because i had four or five chapters already piled up. So my schedule is inconsistent, but i'll try make it about 1-2 uploads a week, more or less.

Hope you like it, and cya!
