The war against Gaea was going great- until it really wasn't. We had just arrived in the middle of the war, Greeks and Romans locked together as they battled for life. Gaea herself was in the middle of it, being forcibly pushed away from the camp by the Athena Parthenos. We had somehow managed to jump down just before the ship crashed, save for Leo who insisted on "going down with the ship"
"It's fine!" He had exclaimed when the g-force from Zeus spiking the ship had started to die down a little and we weren't traveling at Mach 10. "I'm immune to flames!"
Nobody had bothered correcting that he was immune to flames and not crashing, which Percy was starting to regret just now. His ADHD, while still attacking monsters often wondered where Leo was.
That thought was soon answered, as Leo burst from the wreckage, on Festus, blowtorching a couple of Stymphalian Birds out of the sky as they flew towards Gaea.
Percy's mind went on autopilot again- stab, dodge and repeat. He barely even noticed Festus carrying ugly Dirt Face up into the air, or Jason shooting sparks as Piper charmspoke Gaea into sleeping for (hopefully) all of entirety. However, he did notice when a ton of dirt fell down from the sky, bouncing into his already messy hair.
He really would have to take a shower after all of this.
With Gaea gone, the monsters seemed to lose whatever cohesion they had and began to fall back. Percy was the one to claim the final kill, against an Earthborn that seriously stunk. Like, he should really consider wearing deodorant. Percy sliced his head and he dissolved into dust. He wiped the sweat out of his face, turning around for any new enemies. There were none. Percy considered feeling joyful, but he'd rather just relax into his bed, cuddled with Annabeth. He was tired for celebrations, tired for, well, anything, really. Several cheers rang out from the camp. They had won! That was easy!
Never tempt the fates.
Oceanus, alongside several of his titan brothers and thousands of monsters appeared seemingly out of nowhere.
There were outnumbered.
Several hundred to one.
Leo was dead, and the gods were nowhere to be seen.
The monster army loomed in front of him. Riptide hung by Percy's side, ready to attack or defend, whichever one it took.
"As you can see, you will all die!" Oceanus yelled; his trident made of celestial bronze already impaling a camper.
Percy readied his blade. Drawing forward the moisture in the atmosphere, he spared a glance toward Annabeth to make sure she was alive and leapt forward; gathering the moisture to propel him at high speeds. He easily shredded through the first line of monsters before turning to Oceanus, ready to duel with the Titan of the Sea.
Oceanus snickered, "Puny demigod. Where Polybotes failed, I will succeed and win the Earth Mother's favor! After that, I shall awak-"
This last part was interrupted as he promptly cut him off-literally.
Riptide slashed a wide arc, carving a line into Oceanus' vocal cords. He stuttered, and ichor poured out of the wound.
"You're even worse than Polybotes!" Percy taunted, dancing around Oceanus. Annabeth gave him a look that said, really, seaweed brain? , before diving and attacked Oceanus, who suddenly couldn't speak.
They worked flawlessly together; one led Oceanus around, occasionally slamming their sword into him while the other trailed like an annoying pest, attacking him where it hurt most. All the time, Oceanus yelled like Beef Boy himself, but would end up emitting a high-pitched screaming sound that would damage his lungs further.
Percy would really have to remember, later, to go for the lungs.
They drove the titan to his knees, the duo working amazingly.
"Give it up!" Percy yelled, before driving his sword into Oceanus' stomach. Oceanus, now riddled in cuts and scrapes all over, scrambled back.
"Enough!" he yelled, but it sounded like "Eyuf!"
"What was that? Couldn't hear you!" Percy taunted in the most annoying sing-song voice ever.
Annabeth promptly smacked her forehead.
"Stop taunting the Titan! For all we know, he could-"
Blistering white light emitted from the spot where we had pinned Oceanus. Dark columns of water spiraled around him, healing his vocal cords among his other wounds. He thrust a hand out, removing the moisture I had gathered from the atmosphere.
All of a sudden, Percy felt very weak, and tired.
"Holy Hades," he managed to breath out, before almost collapsing.
"How do you like me now, Perseus!" Oceanus roared, his face showing a maniacal smile.
"I don't like you at all," Percy tiredly replied, before readying his sword for round 2.
"This is your fault," Annabeth growled before readying her ivory bone sword as well. Not without an eye roll, of course.
There are two ways to kill a titan:
Blast them with superpowers of those rivaling a god-
or
Get a bunch of satyrs to sing.
Not a lot of great options.
Percy was starting to wish they had asked the gods to transport themselves alongside the demigods because, for some reason, the gods STILL weren't here.
He was really going to have to talk with them about the whole 'ancient laws' shebang.
Because they were losing. Badly.
From what he could make out, dozens of demigod corpses littered the battlefield, Roman and Greek alike.
If Percy had more time, he could recognize some of them.
Unfortunately, Beef Boy but in the Sea was attacking. And he was strong.
Using water that was slightly colored dark, similar to Polybotes' 'water', Oceanus slammed pillar after pillar of water into Percy. Annabeth, at this point, unfortunately did not have her invisibility cap, so she resorted to staying on Oceanus' blind side, occasionally stabbing him.
"Give it up!" Oceanus finally roared, beginning to lose patience. Secretly, Oceanus knew that he could not keep this up forever. Titans have limited stamina, and summoning water took a lot of it. They couldn't heal themselves with the moisture in the atmosphere; they would first have to convert it.
That split second of words was an enough loss of concentration for Annabeth to promptly stab him in the stomach and Percy to control the water and force it down his throat.
Needless to say, the result was not pretty.
Normally, the dark water would heal him.
However, due to a lack of concentration, Percy managed to convert some of the water and solidify it into shapes, almost collapsing as he did so.
Needless to say, having a sword in your gut and countless sharp things in your throat would hurt. A lot.
"ARRRRR!" Oceanus roared, or tried to-his lungs were, after all, damaged.
A golden ichor buildup in the lungs is not pretty, especially when more of it is leaking down a stomach.
What ended up happening is the golden ichor in his lungs cascaded down and out of his stomach, ending his concentration and causing the dark water to disappear.
"I am Immortal," Oceanus managed to cough out before the onagers fired again- this time, thankfully, for their side.
Percy barely had time to pull Annabeth out of the way before (suspiciously) small rocks flew into Oceanus, exploding on impact.
When the dust cleared, Oceanus was burning alive. It seemed he had tried to summon dark water, but to no avail.
"If I can't have your life... I'll make you suffer..." Oceanus rasped before summoning his trident and pointing it at Annabeth, who was surveying the battlefield.
"Annabeth!" Percy screeched out, running at the love of his life.
But it was too late. Oceanus, using the last of his energy, infused the trident with all the dark water he could muster and threw the trident with all his might.
Oceanus promptly dissolved into sea silt, but the trident flew on, straight into Annabeth's back before she even had a chance to turn around.
Time seemed to slow down as Percy raced to Annabeth's side. She collapsed sluggishly, hitting the floor with a soft thump. The trident had pierced her in the side, narrowly missing her heart. Annabeth's face was one of shock, before it turned into one of pain.
Percy rushed over to her. Her heart was beating, if only slightly. He couldn't lose her again. Not after Tartarus.
She coughed silently.
"Annabeth, you'll be okay," Percy said, praying to every god he could think of that she would indeed be okay.
She coughed again. "That weapon... was forged like... Kronos' scythe..." she coughed out.
Horror was evident in Percy's face. No way.
"I'm... fading..." Annabeth rasped.
"No, no, no! We can still fix it, we could ask gods, maybe-"
"It's no use... I can barely feel my body as it is."
"There must be something we can do!"
"The fates really hate us, huh?" Annabeth managed a weak smile.
"Annabeth! Please don't leave me!" Percy's tears were coming full force now.
"Just... promise me you'll move on. Don't forget me... just move on. You deserve better than this, seaweed brain."
"How? I can't leave you! You're my soulmate! Please!"
"Promise me that."
"Annabeth..." Percy choked out. His eyes were blurry, engulfed in water.
"Promise."
"Fine... I promise."
"Then... this is goodbye." Annabeth grasped Percy's hand and then she was still.
Percy slowly stood up, crying his eyes out.
It's not fair.
He wouldn't be able to see Annabeth again. Even if he died and went to Elysium, there would be no Annabeth to greet him.
It's not fair.
Fury coiled around Percy's abdomen.
It was all Oceanus' fault.
An immense tug in his gut - and the last thing Percy remembered was his vision going bloodred before going dark.
[-blue cookie line break-]
Percy awoke in the infirmary.
Will was pacing around him, frowning at the floor.
"What happened...?" Percy managed to rasp out, his throat dry as sandpaper.
Will instantly perked up at his voice and rushed over.
"Are you okay? That blast of power was immense."
"What blast of power?"
"You mean you don't remember? You killed all the monsters by yourself." Will's voice at this point had turned excited, like a child seeing a firework show for the first time.
"Really? Huh. No wonder I feel so sore..."
"It was insane."
"How long have I been out?"
Will tensed up, like he was dreading the answer.
"How long?"
Percy's voice at this point took a manic tone, hoping it hadn't been too long.
Will finally burst. "Seven days. You were out for seven days."
"WHAT?" Percy yelled, fury igniting in his gaze.
Will rubbed his head apologetically. "This is why I didn't want to tell you."
"Never mind that." Percy dismissed, "How's Annabeth?"
Will scowled. "I do not want to be the person that tells you that."
"Wh-" Percy mind suddenly reignited, flooding him with memories.
Annabeth lying on the floor, fading faster and faster.
Blood on his hands as he murdered monster after monster.
Dust covering his wings as face morphed into a scowl.
Titans on their knees, dying.
The gods arriving.
Blackness.
Will was studying him intently. "You remember now?"
"Y-Yeah," Percy choked out, his tears threatening to overwhelm him again.
"The gods arrived after all the fighting was done," Will explained grimly. "They managed to sedate you before you burst with energy. You nearly died, Percy."
"I-Is it true? Is Annabeth..." Percy was unable to choke out anymore.
"Faded." Will's tone was saddened, dreadful.
Annabeth was faded.
And it was all Percy's fault.
A/N:
I compressed the first few chapters together since they were a bit short. Im hoping for around 10-20 chapters, with around 2k words each.
