Chapter Two:

"Guys, I swear, I am fine. How much blood are you gonna draw before you believe me?" Skye rolled her eyes at the two scientists as she was stuck with another needle.

Selena looked on with a disgusted look on her face.

The process was kind of fascinating to watch though. Skye's blood went through the needle and into a tube for Jemma to run tests on.

"You're recovery, it's honestly, quite remarkable." Jemma marveled.

It was true.

Skye had recently been shot by Quinn after confronting him alone, without any weapons.

As far as Selena understood, the recovery was supposed to be way more rocky than this.

What had she gotten herself into?

"Strange." Fitz looked at the vial of Skye's blood, moving it around in his observation.

"We know that Coulson had a very different recovery experience, so we understand why he's hesitant about sharing our findings with others." Jemma explained.

"Yeah, but something like this drug, it needs to be studied." Fitz rattled off. "It has the potential to save so many lives."

"We'd like to send a blood sample of yours to some colleagues to do a molecular breakdown." Jemma continued. "Maybe if you spoke to Agent Coulson.—"

"—Yeah." Skye interrupted, not too keen on the idea. "I don't think that's a good idea. If Coulson thinks it's important that this stays between us, then we should trust him. Right? He's the boss."

Selena looked at her newfound sister in disbelief.

Since when did she follow anyone's rules?

"So you're saying we should obey the rules." Jemma didn't say anything that no one was already thinking.

"Who are you, and what have you done with Skye?" Fitz joked.

"I'm just trying to set a good example for the kid." Skye shot back, ruffling her sister's hair.

"Could you not do that? Gosh, you're so annoying." Selena swatted at her hands and made a move to do the same to her, but the older girl caught her hands and tickled her.

"I am definitely annoying." Skye agreed, tickling her sister's weakest spot.

Her underarms.

Fitz-Simmons just looked on in amusement as the two sisters bonded right in front of them.

"Skyeeee!" Selena wiggled. Half her body was on Skye's lap and the other half was on the floor, trying to make an escape.

"Whaaatttt?" Skye replied, pretending like she had no idea that she was the one in control.

"Stop it!" Selena let out the cutest giggle that made Jemma gush.

"Skye." A new voice came from behind them, causing them all to stop what they were doing and look.

"Upstairs." It was only Ward. Selena had to keep herself from rolling her eyes. He acted so weird and it was like no one else saw it, but she didn't dislike him, so she let it slide. "Top brass wants to see you."

"I guess that's enough playtime for today." Skye let go of Selena's arms, allowing her to lazily slither onto the ground like a snake. "Duty calls."

Selena watched her go with a sigh.

She liked spending time with her sister, but she knew she had to work.

Still though, it was hard to accept. Skye was twenty-four and she was ten. It was a huge age gap.

They couldn't be together all the time.

"Selena." Jemma sensed the change in the girl's mood. "Do you want to know a secret?'

"Yes." The scientist smiled when Selena perked up at the thought of being in on something. "You have to keep this a secret, okay? Everyone knows, but Skye."

"I can keep a secret!" The brunette scrambled up onto her feet. "What is it? Is it good?"

"Of course it's good." Fitz chuckled at her excitement. "Should we make her wait?"

"What? No!"

"He's only joking Sweetheart." Jemma elbowed him lightly. "The reason why Ward just called Skye in, is because she's officially becoming an Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D."

Selena's grin grew wider and she hopped up and down, clearly beyond happy for her sister. "Oh goody!"

"We're headed over there now, if you'd like to come." Fitz explained, already knowing what the answer would be.

"I want to come! I want to come!" She was practically vibrating with excitement.

"Remember, this is a surprise. You can't let on that you know." Jemma told her in an effort to get her to calm down.

"Okay." Selena sobered up, but the smile on her face was evident. "Can I have a piggyback ride if I promise not to spoil it?"

Fitz-Simmons shared a look of amusement before rolling their eyes.

"Hop on." Fitz was the one to bend down and haul her onto his back as they made it to the common room area. "Don't make this an everyday thing." He tried to make it seem like he didn't like Selena's attention.

"One question, how am I supposed to access all the classified files without someone in the room? I don't have any clearance." Skye asked Coulson, not aware of the recent arrival of the three.

"Now you do." Coulson held up a wallet with a S.H.I.E.L.D. badge inside. "Welcome to S.H.I.E.L.D. Skye."

Skye's jaw nearly dropped in shock.

Honestly, after everything, this was the last thing she had been expecting when Ward summoned her.

But the smile on Coulson's face proved that this was real.

She looked at the badge for a few moments, taking in ever single detail, before looking around the room at everyone's smiling faces.

"I told them to come up." May informed her of Fitz-Simmons and Selena's presence.

"I…...I don't know what to say." Skye stammered before looking back at Coulson. "Thank you."

She was finally a part of something.

Just like she always wanted to be.

"Don't thank me." Coulson shook her off. "You've passed every required S.H.I.E.L.D. exam with flying colors."

"For a Level One agent." Victoria Hand added, earning a look from Agent Garrett that Selena did not miss.

"You've assisted us on multiple field missions, put your life on the line…...You earned this." Coulson continued.

"You took two in the gut. More than Sitwell here's ever done." Garret joked, earning himself an eyeroll from Sitwell.

If anyone caught the look that Coulson and Skye were sharing, they certainly didn't mention it.

It was for their knowledge only.

"Okay everyone." Coulson never broke eye contact with Skye. "Back to work."

The entire room erupted in noise as everyone began to scatter, congratulating Skye before they went back to their stations.

"Congratulations." Garret smiled at her as he left.

And with a rare smile, May rested a hand on Skye's shoulder.

"Thanks." The younger woman smiled back at her, hoping that she would get more smiles out of the agent in the future.

"Congratulations Skye!" Jemma couldn't contain herself anymore as she and Fitz, with Selena still on his back, went over to congratulate her. She even reached out and hugged her, she was so proud.

"Congratulations." Fitz sent her a warm smile. "Now would you get this little sloth off my back?"

Skye let out a hearty laugh and lifted her sister off of his back and set her on her hip.

"Congratulations Skye." The ten year old giggled.

And somehow, hearing her sister say it, meant more to her than anything. "Thanks kid."

Ward decided to make his way over to them to pay his respects and smiled at Selena.

He didn't really like kids, but Selena was so different from the average child, that he couldn't help but be at ease around her.

"Couldn't have done it without a great and patient S.O." Skye mirrored his smile.

"Yeah, you could have." He had no interest in taking the credit. "I'm not clairvoyant, but I do believe some things are meant to be." He put a hand on her should and tapped Selena's nose before walking away.

"Why don't you and I celebrate over cookies and ice cream?" Skye suggested.

"Yay!"

"Are you always eating cookies?" Fitz asked Selena, who had just come into the lab with a pocketful.

"No." Selena shook her head and handed him one. "Sometimes I eat ice cream."

"I'm willing to bet that if we ran an x-ray of you right now, your entire body would show up as sweet treats." He teased.

"Ha. Ha." Selena laughed sarcastically and took another bit of her own cookie.

"What is this?"

The two turned to see May walking towards them with a some bullets in a clip.

"Um, say you need to tag a fleeing vehicle…...or a wild monkey...…or in our case, a hyper Selena."

"Hey!"

May just shot him a look.

"If it was to get away from you. These rounds are built with a micro-receiver which enables you to track your target via satellite."

"Cool." Selena looked at the item in fascination. "Hi Jemma!" She noticed Fitz had been trying to get her attention and was miserably failing to do so.

But apparently, Jemma hadn't heard her. "I've condensed the blood sample results into an encrypted file. Now if we just had access to—"

"—Jemma, we have a visitor." Fitz cut her off, obviously too little too late.

May was steadily glaring at the two.

Selena didn't have to be a rocket scientist like those two, to know to step out of her line of vision. "You're in trouuubbllleeeee." She mouthed behind her back.

"Oh." Jemma tried to keep her composure. "May. Hello."

"I assume you're talking about Skye's blood."

Fitz-Simmons looked at one another to see if either of them could come up with a quick enough response.

So Selena threw herself off of the stool she had been sitting on and flopped onto the ground, and groaned, alarming May, who looked behind her to see what had happened.

"Owwww." She sniffled and brought fake tears to her eyes.

She was so convincing, that she was fooling the same people she was trying to help!

"Sweetheart, what's wrong?" Jemma rushed to her side.

"My stomach hurtssss." Selena forced out a small sob and curled up on her side, winking at Jemma when she thought May wasn't looking. "Owwww."

"Simmons, do you still have that remedial shot that you use for these kind of stomachaches?" May asked without missing a beat.

"There's no—"

And just like that, Selena shot back up onto her feet. "—You know what?" She laughed nervously, stepping away from May and hiding behind Fitz as if he could do anything to protect her, should May really decide she wanted to go after her. "I think I'm all better now! I don't need any shots, my stomach feels like new!"

May nodded stoically and pointed to the stool she had previously been sitting on, waiting for her to reclaim her seat, before holding out her hand.

"What?" Selena asked gave her a high-five, but she never moved her hand. "Oh…...the cookies?"

"Since you seem to be having stomach issues, maybe you shouldn't be consuming so much sugar. Don't you agree?"

Selena just sighed heavily and reached into her back pocket before handing her all of the cookies she had stashed there. "I guess I had that coming."

"All of it." May raised an eyebrow.

"All of it?" Selena made a face and pulled the rest out of the front pocket of her dungarees.

"Selena, what were you doing with all those cookies?" Jemma gasped as May put them all on the table and dusted off her hands.

"Skye let me have them." Selena crossed her arms with a pout. "I was savin' em for a rainy day."

Fitz burst into laughter, but stopped once he caught the look on May's face. "Erm…...sorry."

"Continue." Was all she said.

"There's just so much we don't know." Jemma decided to come clean.

Selena nearly facepalmed.

She went through all of that and lost her cookies just so Jemma could tell the truth?

She couldn't work like this.

"The G.H.-325." Fitz supplied.

"325."

"I mean." Fitz continued. "We don't know what drug it is, where it came from."

"Yeah." Simmons piped up. "Not to mention potential side effects, short or long term."

"We're just worried about Skye…...and Agent Coulson of course."

"Have either of them exhibited any side effects or strange behavior?" May asked, suddenly interested.

"Strange' is such a subjective term." "No more than usual." The two rattled off at the same time.

"Because if they have, or if they do in the future, feel free to contact me first. I can help. Okay?"

May gave them a rare smile and turned back to Selena, giving her one of her cookies back before leaving them all to be shocked amongst themselves.

"Woah."

A/N: Thank you for bearing with me on this sudden change. I started to watch season two again and realized that Selena had never even met Ward and I wanted to have her on this particular 'journey'. The next chapter should be coming soon, because this idea is making the gears in my mind turn XOXOXO. :)
