Chapter Three:

"Selena, Sweetheart, would you pass me those pairs of socks, by your foot?" Jemma asked the child as she began to pack.

Selena nodded and handed them to her, watching the two go at each other. Again.

"Honestly, I don't know how much more you can tell them." Fitz obviously didn't want her to leave. "Who knows what else they've done to the man?'

"Or how much man is left at all." Simmons shook her head. "Regardless, S.H.I.E.L.D. sees us as the resident expert on the Deathlok Program." As she finished her thought, she picked up a small box and opened it, looking at the vials of Skye's blood.

"Gross." Selena wrinkled her nose.

"If they want me to stay here, at The Hub, then that's that."

"Well, don't you seem awful chipper to pick up and leave me by my lonesome?"

"Do I?"

"Yes." Fitz moved closer towards his partner. "I wonder, could it be because The Hub's lab facilities are much more comprehensive than ours?"

"In case I'd like to run a molecular breakdown of Skye's blood?' Simmons smiled. "Yes. Brilliant deductions, Dr. Watson."

"I've always pictured you as Watson."

"Ewww." Selena screwed up her face and handed Jemma her bag. "Are you guys flirting?'

Both scientists blushed to a dark red, avoiding eye contact with one another.

"Either way." Fitz cleared his throat, glaring at Selena. "If you're gonna do this, you're gonna need my help. At some point, one way or another, eventually."

"Well." Jemma still refused to look at him. "I wouldn't go that far."

"I'll Jerry up an encrypted hard line so we can stay in touch. Don't want the rest of The Bus overhearing what we're saying."

And with that, the two looked directly at Selena.

"What?" She asked. "Why do you guys always think that I'm gonna tell everyone their darkest secrets? I have some self control."

"Because you're a child and children very rarely have any self control." Fitz didn't miss a beat.

"I'm not a child. I'm a tiny adult and I can keep a secret. No one will know about your secret little love-line." Selena giggled and ran towards the door before Fitz could catch her, bumping into Trip.

"Woah, slow down girl." He lifted her up onto his hip. "Where are you going?"

"Anywhere that's nowhere near Fitz." She stuck her tongue out at the Scotsman now that she was safe from him, but giggled when Trip dug his fingers into her stomach.

"You ready to go?" The man asked Jemma.

"Agent Triplett, are you staying at The Hub as well?"

"Yeah." He nodded. "Garrett's keeping me here. Help brief the teams on our most recent run-in with the cyber soldier. Don't mind the company, do you?"

"No, not all." The English scientist smiled.

Trip noticed Selena's small pout and pretended to drop her. "Come on girl, what's with the kicked puppy look?"

"Do you have to go?" Selena asked as she fiddled with the buttons on his shirt. "You can stay here with me and we can bake a big chocolate cake."

"I would love nothing more than to do that with you, but I have to do my job. We help people, remember?"

"…..Yeah." Selena answered reluctantly.

"Yeah." Trip mimicked her. "Sometimes when we help people, we have to leave the base and go to them. I'm coming back Curly Sue." The nickname got a genuine smile out of her. "And when I get back, you and I are gonna make the biggest, most delicious chocolate cake known to man, and we won't even share it with Fitz if you don't want to. Is that a deal?"

"It's a deal!" Selena cheered up. "Have fun Trip. Bye Jemma!" She saluted him once he set her down, before she ran off to find her sister.

"She's really taken to you." Jemma told the man. "It's cute."

"She's a little firecracker." Trip nodded, taking her bag and nodding at Fitz. "All the more reason to come home."

Selena woke up in the back of a van.

Yeah. That's right. She woke up in the back of a van.

And she would've freaked out if she hadn't heard the familiar voices of the team.

"Oh good, you're awake." Coulson looked back at her, acting as if they hadn't just kidnapped her. Again. "Since you're here, why don't you help Skye on her laptop, maybe you can pick up a few new skills."

Since she was there?

As if she wanted to be!

"How did I get here?" Selena asked groggily, sitting up to rub her eyes.

"Everyone has work to do and we didn't feel particularly safe with you alone back at the base." Coulson started to explain.

"Huh?"

"Relax." Skye typed away on her laptop. "You were in your bunk fast asleep. We carried you here. Nothing else happened."

"You're a really really deep sleeper when you're tired out from terrorizing innocent people." Coulson winked.

That was fair. Selena thought to herself as she climbed to sit next to her sister. "What are we doing?" She asked as Coulson and May exited the van.

"Put this in your ear." Skye handed her a com and made sure that she put it in correctly before getting out of the van after Fitz. "Watch what I do and when I tell you to do something, do it."

"Okay." Selena nodded, seriously. Play time was over.

"I want this perimeter sealed." Coulson told them. "Two man teams on every exit. Fitz? You got a signal?"

"94% sir." Fitz responded, looking at his tablet. "Deathlok must be inside somewhere."

"Possible civilians inside?" May questioned.

"Highly doubtful. This racetrack's been shut down for months."

"Move out!" May ordered the soldiers that were standing behind her.

Skye grabbed her sister's hand and made a move to leave.

"Skye, run a back end from the tactical van." Ward called out, before turning to a soldier that was standing next to Fitz. "You, I want you six feet from Skye and her sister at all times, weapons hot."

"Ward, it's okay." Skye tried to assure him, even though his concern was completely legitimate. "I'm ready."

"Ward's right. I feel bad enough you're already back in the field." Coulson told her. "I'm not taking any chances with you or your sister's safety."

Skye sighed, knowing that they both were right and pulled Selena back towards the van.

"Sorry." Selena looked at her innocently.

"What are you sorry for? None of this is your fault. You didn't do anything."

"She's right." Coulson's voice rang in their ears. "Skye? You online?"

"Hang on." The older girl typed away on her laptop. "Northwest corridor is getting something. I'm pulling up a live feed."

Selena pointed to a figure walking past the camera once the feed popped up on the laptop. "Is that who you're looking for?"

Skye looked at who she was pointing at and shrugged. "I can't confirm it's him. Initiating spectrum overlay."

The girls continued to watch the feed and saw a large device on the figure. Once he turned toward the probe, they caught a glimpse of his single red, glowing eye.

"This is weird." Selena's jaw dropped.

"What's weird?" May asked.

"What did they do to him?" Skye asked herself.

"What are you two seeing?" Coulson asked.

"It's not just his leg or his eye." Skye explained. "They did stuff to him. It's all under his skin."

The man in question focused on the probe and began to swat it away.

"Uh, the signal's dead." They heard Fitz say. "Retriever's down."

"He knows we're here." May concluded.

"Fitz, get back to the van. Now." Coulson ordered.

And Fitz did as he was told as Coulson, May, and Garrett trekked further into the building.

Near the seating area of the racetrack, Ward was leading a group of soldiers into a different room.

Everything was completely fine until Mike began to fire at Ward.

"Contact!" Ward shouted over the noise. "Take cover!"

"Ward, are you okay?" Skye asked as she and her sister watched the live feed of Ward firing back.

"Uh…..I got two men down." He spoke into his com. "We need a med team!"

"Requesting one now." Skye noticed Selena pointing to Mike closely approaching May and nodded, giving her permission to tell her.

"Agent May?" Selena's voice crackled in the older woman's ear. "He's coming your way."

She watched as he ran out of a hallway and turned to his right.

"Got him!" May alerted them as she ran right after him.

As Coulson headed down an escalator, he noticed Mike jumped over a railing and landed on the floor below.

May wasn't going to make that jump without seriously injuring herself. There was no way.

"He just ducked into the southwest stairwell." Coulson told her, watching her take his instructions. "In pursuit."

He ran right to the stairwell, weapons drawn, pausing at the top before continuing down.

"All teams, he's headed into the sub-basement. I do not have a visual. Fitz, do you have a retriever down here?"

"No sir." Fitz shook his head even though Coulson couldn't see him. "On their way."

Coulson just continued down a long hallway as a retriever flew over his head. He turned one corner and was planning on turning another when he abruptly stopped and let out a gasp.

He had almost bumped into Garrett.

"Easy." Was all Garrett said.

But Mike found them both and stared them down.

"I come in peace." Garrett tried.

"How about a signal next time?" Coulson nearly rolled his eyes, but stopped short when he felt like Mike was going to shoot, and fired at him.

Mike turned on his heel and ran the opposite way as Coulson and Garret followed behind him, listening to the sound of the metal.

"Fitz, you getting this?" Coulson asked as he looked at a ladder that was built to go down instead of up.

"Uh, barely sir. It leads down into the sewage system. That's under at least…...forty feet of concrete. We'll be blind down there." Fitz answered him as a retriever flew by Coulson and Garrett. "Sir, there's someone else down there."

"Copy that." The two men followed the retriever into a room at the end of the hallway. The walls of the room were covered with monitors with a chair smack dab in the middle of the room. It was clearly occupied.

"What?" Garrett spoke in disbelief looking at a monitor with a black screen and some writing on it.

"Agent Coulson. Agent Garrett. I surrender." A voice from the monitor spoke.

It was Nash.

"Forgive me if we don't shake hands." Nash continued. "I don't like to be touched."

Ward had made it to the room and stood in a place where he could see Nash, as a retriever passed behind him.

"Sir, we got a lot of wires back here."

"Don't touch anything." Coulson ordered. "We need this room swept for explosives."

"There are no traps here Agent Coulson." Nash told him.

As May arrived, she had a few soldiers search the room, clearly not taking the man's word for it.

"You're here because we are destined to meet."

"You're the Clairvoyant?" Garrett asked.

"I'm Thomas Nash. Mr. Po gave me that other name. A bit dramatic for my taste."

"Eyes open everybody." Coulson wasn't going to relax for a second. "We don't know where Deathlok is or who else is down here."

"Mr. Peterson is gone. I cut his feed, so you won't find him."

"But you had him lead us here. Why?" Coulson asked.

"So I could see you with my own eyes instead of his. Now I understand why I couldn't see you after you died…...because you, yourself, could not see. You were simply a broken man who did not know he was broken."

"You're one to talk."

"Let's pack this freak off to The Fridge where he belongs." Garrett was ready to go.

"Agent Garrett, look at me. Do you believe you can confine me any more than this chair?"

"Can somebody please tell me how we turn this stupid voice off?"

"I will join Raina in your prison, Agent Coulson, but I will see you wherever you go, just as I saw you holding Skye in your arms, bleeding…..."

Apparently once Nash mentioned Skye, something in Ward snapped as he looked at the man, angrily.

"Dying…...knowing it was all your fault."

Selena crawled onto her sister's lap as she listened to the feed, wanting to be as close as possible to her.

She never wanted anything bad to happen to her ever again.

"You're going away. We're gonna stick you in a little box where no one will ever hear you again." Coulson didn't appreciate him bringing up Skye any more than Ward did.

"I see you're angry. Head clouded with lies. You've been betrayed and now you fear what's about to happen."

"Nothing's about to happen. Just more empty threats from you."

"No. It is inevitable. A force beyond your comprehension is coming for you…...you and Skye." Nash continued. "She has something we want."

Fitz looked at Skye with confusion written all over his face, but she didn't pay any attention to him, she just held Selena closer and kept listening.

"And she will die giving it to us. I have seen it. No matter where I go, or what you do to me, I will always—"

A single shot rang out, cutting Nash off completely.

Ward did it. "What did you do?" Coulson asked him, shocked that that had even happened.

"Wait, what just happened?" Skye asked, still watching the feed.

"Did Ward just...…" Fitz trailed.

Selena's jaw had since dropped after what she just witnessed.

What was going on?

Selena sat alone in a room full of pipes in an effort to clear her head.

But it wasn't working.

She kept seeing that live feed over and over.

And there was nothing she could do to stop it.

Some movement from the corner of her eye snapped her out of her thoughts and made her body go rigid. She didn't know if she wasn't supposed to be down there or not and she didn't want to get in trouble.

She watched as a figure set something down and looked down at a tablet, turning a flashlight on.

As soon as she realized that it was only Fitz, Selena relaxed again.

He wouldn't say anything to anyone about her being here and she wouldn't say anything about him being here.

She watched carefully as he messed with some wires and attached one to the case he had put down on the ground, dialing a number.

Selena figured that it must've been his and Jemma's secret love-line.

"Yes."

"Fitz?" Jemma answered from the other line.

"Don't use my name Jemma."

"Why not?" Jemma questioned. "I thought you said..…going to…...use encrypted…...line."

"You're cutting in and out, hold on." Fitz told her.

"Were…...there?…...What happened…...Ward?"

"Well, yeah. You said Ward. Took us all by surprise. Just hang...…keep talking okay? I'm gonna see if I can clear it up." Fitz fiddled with the wire again.

So..…no idea...…been a great deal of commotion on this end."

"Hang on now. I think I've found the problem. Looks like someone else is tapping the hard line." Fitz found a wire that looked like it really shouldn't be there.

"Wait, Fitz…I think some…happening…There's agents rushing to the Situation Room."

"What?"

Fitz didn't get an answer, the line went dead.

"Jemma? Jemma can you hear me?" All he got was static. "Oh bloody…..."

Selena got down on all fours, sensing that something was going terribly wrong as she kept looking on.

"May?" She heard Fitz call.

What was May doing down here?

"What are you doing down here?" She asked.

Selena did her best quietly crawl a little ways away, still listening to the conversation.

"Umm…...I was just..…wondering, since, uh…..." Fitz trailed off as May stepped towards him in a very intimidating way. "Cause we're going to The Triskelion…...um, I thought you would like to, um….." He pointed towards the cockpit. "There's gonna be an aviation team on the ground. They could probably recalibrate it. But I think it's — it should be alright." He finally found some words to spew out of his mouth before he hightailed it out of there.

Selena stayed for a little while longer, wanting to know what exactly May was there for.

She watched as May looked around the cockpit before the woman lifted a hatch and picked up a phone.

Selena gasped audibly, catching May's attention and scrambled out of there before she got caught.

The girl didn't stop running until she slammed right into Skye and hit the floor from the impact.

"What's the matter with you?" Skye helped her stand before giving her a look.

"Nothing I just...…I…..." She trailed, looking behind her to see if May had followed her.

"What?" Fitz asked.

"I just…...May…...she…...I don't know."

She really didn't.

"You were down in the avionics bay?" Fitz asked.

"Yes." Selena nodded, clearly out of breath.

"What were doing down there?" Skye asked.

"I don't know…...but I saw May and she…...she's calling someone." Selena didn't know how serious this situation was, but she knew enough to tell another adult about it.

"You were there." Fitz realized that she had seen what he saw. "Why would May have an unauthorized encrypted hard line in the cockpit, complete with a thumb scanner? That isn't in any of the plane's specs."

"Wait, slow down. An encrypted hard line?" Skye was lost.

"Yeah. Dedicated to on receiver. She's not supposed to have that. Who's she talking to?"

"I—" Skye cut herself off and her eyes widened with realization. "Cut the line."

"What?"

"You need to cut the line right now Fitz. Do not let her call out."

Selena and Skye watched as Fitz dashed to where he had made his last call before racing to find Coulson.

They burst into the cell that was holding Ward, breathing harder than normal.

"What?"

"We have a problem." Skye told Coulson.

"What?"

"Me and Fitz saw May making a call with an encrypted phone in the cockpit." Selena explained to him.

Coulson dropped everything and rushed to the lab with the two sisters in time to see May attempt to shoot Fitz.

Coulson drew his gun and pointed it at May before Skye pushed Selena behind her and did the same. "Put it down."

May just looked at him and pointed her gun at him.

"Put it down May!"

"It's not what you think Coulson. It's just an I.C.E.R."

"This one isn't." Coulson shot back. "It's real, with real bullets. So you better put yours down and tell me what's going on right now."

"I….." As much as May wanted to tell him, she couldn't.

"Now!"

"I can't."

"You better listen to the man, Agent May." Skye advised.

"You have no idea what you're doing."

"Maybe not, but I know you're not fast enough to take us both."

"Look." May looked at Coulson before lowering her gun. "I can explain everything, but not here."

"Why not here? You have to check with someone first, using that encrypted phone in the cockpit?" Coulson asked.

May stared at Fitz and narrowed her eyes at Selena.

Selena hid herself further behind her sister in fear once she caught the look.

She thought that May hadn't known!

"Who's on the other line May?"

"I can't say."

"That's okay. I think I know. It makes sense now why Deathlok put Blake in critical condition, left you alive and well. Why he led us to the track only to disappear instead of defending his boss. Why would he do that? Because that wasn't his boss, was it?" Coulson snapped. "Was it?!"

Selena caught the look of genuine confusion on the older agent's face. "What are you talking about?"

"Stop lying to me! Who do you answer to?! Who's the real Clairvoyant?"

"What if she really doesn't know?" Selena asked, making everyone look at her.

She had an awful feeling that something big was about to happen.

But before anyone could answer, The Bus began to rock, throwing them all off balance.

"What did you do?" Coulson asked once they regained their balance. "Where are we going?"

"I don't know! I didn't do it Phil! I don't know what's happening here, I swear!"

And as odd as it was, Selena believed her.

"If you're not doing this? Then who is?" Coulson questioned.

When that plane touches down, take out everyone on board. Except Agent Coulson." Victoria Hand ordered. "He's mine."

A/N: We got to see a little bit of Trip and Selena's friendship! They're so cute :). Selena kinda sorta went on her first mission, so that must've been fun for her, until she witnessed Ward...well, ya know :(. Stay tuned for more!
