Another chapter, because this has just been sitting in my computer for far too long :)
Chapter Sixteen:
Selena had a feeling that everyone was keeping something from her. Something big.
Actually, she knew they were keeping something from her. Every time she asked Skye what was wrong, her sister would grimace, then quickly try to hide her discomfort, and change the subject. Everyone else just redirected her attention to something else.
She thought it had something to do with what Ward told Skye during their one of many conversations as of late.
"Are you okay?" Trip asked her, having noticed that she was daydreaming.
Usually she had a lot to say.
"Me? Yeah, I'm fine." Selena smiled and hopped off the desk she had been sitting on. "I'm hungry…..I'm gonna go find something to eat."
"Okay, just make sure that you get some actual food and not junk." The man advised. "You're a pain in the neck when you're on a sugar rush."
Selena forced a giggle and waited until he turned around, before grabbing the tablet that was sitting on the cyber desk, rushing out of the room without a second glance.
She was going to talk to Ward.
If they were going to keep things top secret, then she'd find out on her own.
But first, she needed to find a way to disable the cameras in the hallway and the basement so that no one would know where she was this time. She had seen Skye do it a million times, so hopefully, her memory would serve her well and she wouldn't struggle too much.
Knowing that there were no cameras in her bunk, Selena rushed straight there and closed the door behind her, activating the base's security system on the tablet. "Cameras….Surveillance….Gotcha." Her tongue stuck out in concentration.
She scrolled until she finally found the surveillance footage of the hallway near the door of the Vault and set it up so that it wouldn't turn off, because that would be suspicious. She managed to loop the footage from the last five minutes over and over, before doing the same in Ward's cell. It made it look like he had been sleeping, so it worked out great for her.
She remembered her conversation with Coulson and shut off the audio, so no one would be able to hear a thing. That was risky, but she had high hopes that no one would go poking around through the audio.
Knowing her job was halfway finished, Selena snuck back to the cyber desk and put the tablet back where she found it, running straight to the Vault before anyone could see her and ask her what on earth she was doing.
"I told you, you'd be back." Ward greeted, not even looking to see who it was.
"How'd you know it was me?" Selena asked, walking down the stairs, before sitting in the chair that was still there before.
"You have the lightest footsteps on the team." Ward supplied. "Even lighter than May's. I bet you're here for answers. No one's telling you anything you wanna know, so you figured you'd come to me, hoping I would tell you the truth."
"How do I know you won't lie to me now? You lied to me before. You told me that not even Skye cared about me."
"And I was wrong." Ward didn't hesitate to say. "I was trying to get you to do my bidding, by tearing you down and building you back up so you were completely trusting in me. I see now, that that wouldn't have worked. You would've caught on. You're too smart."
"Is this going somewhere?"
"From now on, I will answer every question you have for me, truthfully. The same way I do with your sister. She's important to me, so that means you are too."
"Okay…." Selena trailed, a little creeped out by the sentiment. "Did Skye tell you where she was going today?"
"To meet Raina and discuss where to find The Obelisk." Ward explained. "Raina also wanted to spill the beans about Skye's father. Your father."
Selena's eyes widened at the mention of the man she had never even met. She had never even seen a picture of him, she didn't know what he looked like! Did he look more like her, or Skye? Or maybe she and Skye both took after their mothers and didn't look like him at all.
"He wants to see you. He's looked everywhere for the both of you."
"How did…..How did he lose Skye and me?"
"He lost Skye when the village in Hunan that she was born in, was attacked. He never saw her again after that. The poor man was heartbroken when he lost her. He spent the next fourteen or so years desperately searching for her. Then he met this beautiful woman, who he said spoke Spanish so delicately; with an accent, it sounded like she was singing the language, and he fell in love again. And despite his desperation for Skye, they had a baby."
"Me." Selena breathed, taking all this information in. It didn't seem like he was lying, so there was no reason why shouldn't have believed him.
"You. They were so happy with you for the first two years, but then…..then the worst happened. Like Skye, you were taken from him. Your mother just took you and left. He lost himself a little bit after that, but he never stopped looking for you or for Skye."
"I grew up in the system..…" Selena shook her head, that last bit wasn't adding up. "I never knew my mother or my father….you're lying."
"No. That's what everyone allowed you to believe. Just because you can't remember it, doesn't mean it isn't true. You knew your parents..…your first two years, from what I was told, were happy ones."
"If…..If that's true, then what happened to my mom?" Selena questioned. "Where did she go?"
"She couldn't handle the stress of your father's...habits, so she packed everything up one night, including you, and left. No one has seen or heard from her since...that I know of."
Selena slumped against her chair as she processed all that information. "Does everyone know all this? Does Skye? They've been keeping this from me?"
"No." Ward shook his head. "They don't know. I got all my information from Raina, who is in close contact with your father."
"I don't….I can't…." Selena forced herself to stay calm. When Ward said he would tell her the truth, she didn't think it'd be that heavy.
She had only been in the system for eight years instead of ten..…unless that was a lie too. She had known her parents. She had a little piece of them in her mind, she just couldn't get to it!
"I'm sorry I can't give you anything more. Just know that your father loves you and your sister, very much. He will stop at nothing until he finds you."
Selena stealthily snuck out of the basement and into the kitchen, remembering at the last minute that she had told Trip that she was hungry, to get a snack. She reached into one of the cupboards and grabbed a granola bar, deciding against sneaking a cookie.
She had already broke a serious amount of rules for the day, there was no need to go overboard.
And it wasn't over yet, she still had to turn the cameras and the audio of the hallway and the basement back on. And with Trip still working at the cyber desk, it was going to be a challenge.
"You took all that time just to find a granola bar?" He questioned when she walked into the room.
"Yeah, I couldn't decide on what I wanted…..I can't have cookies anymore..." She trailed, glancing at the tablet that was in the same exact place as where she left it.
"Okay." He knew she was acting weird, but he wasn't going to question it, because he had work to do. "I've got some place to be, you let me know if you need anything, okay?"
"Okay."
"I mean it Selena, anything."
"Okay, I will." Selena waved until he was out of eyesight, before grabbing the tablet and fixing everything so that it was back to normal.
It bothered her the way she had gotten away with this so easily. She thought that there would be more of a struggle.
But maybe she wasn't out of the woods just yet. She still had school work and if that wasn't done by the time her sister got back, then she would really be in trouble.
"5:30 on the dot every morning." Jemma commented on the footage Skye was watching on her tablet.
Ward was doing his daily exercises; push-ups, handstands, the whole works.
"But there's no clock, no light, no way he can know what time it is."
"You've been watching him?" Skye asked, a little surprised.
"Every day before I left, every day since I got back." Simmons nodded. "What I can't figure out was the unusual afternoon nap he took yesterday...anyway, it doesn't matter." She waved it off. "I don't know how you do it, going down there, talking to him."
"Sacrifices we make for valuable intel, right?"
"Yeah….." Jemma trailed.
"Jemma Simmons" Skye gladly changed the subject. "Undercover at Hydra."
"I thought I was a dead woman at least four times."
"I'm glad you're not."
"Me too." The two exchanged smiles, before they were interrupted by May, who was rushing into the room as an alarm went off.
"What's happening?" Skye asked her, ready to move.
"There's been an attack on the U.N." May didn't even stop as she answered her, forcing the two to follow.
A wooden pencil rapped against paper as Selena stared at her science work. She was supposed to be finished by now, but she was too distracted thinking about her previous misdeed and the attack on the U.N.
She was sitting at a table in the kitchen that connected to the common area, listening to the reports as they kept pouring in.
She'd watch it too, but Skye said that if she couldn't focus on what she was supposed to be doing, then she could do her work in her bunk, alone.
And Selena really didn't feel like being alone, so she made sure that she at least looked like she was doing something productive.
The tv was on, playing the attack as a reporter the story, informing viewers on what was going on.
"An attack today at the U.N. left six dead and dozens injured. Many have not been identified. S.H.I.E.L.D.'s biggest opponent, U.S. Air Force Brigadier, General Glen Talbot…"
"Sir, this wasn't us, was it?" Trip asked as Coulson marched into the room, stopping in the kitchen to get himself a drink.
"No, this is Hydra looking for revenge. Best guess, Daniel Whitehall had his people impersonate S.H.I.E.L.D. to put the world's attention back on us." The director opened a cupboard and grabbed a mug.
"So much for staying in the shadows." Skye rolled her eyes.
"Somebody bring this from home?" Coulson held up the mug. It had an image of Grumpy Cat on one side, with the words 'I hate Mondays' written on it. "I want you two scouring government channels, see what we're up against."
"On it, sir." Trip nodded.
"And Skye, this means the alien writing—"
"—Back burner." The girl agreed.
"Selena, go back to the common area and watch tv or something, you can't be here." Skye told her sister, but it was too late.
She had already skipped over to them with a large smile on her face, only for it to drop once she saw Ward being led away by guards.
"Hey, Kid." He greeted her, causing Skye to pull her close.
"Don't even look at her." Coulson warned.
"Remember what I told you, there were so many answers I wanted to give you, but it looks like I'm out of time." Was all he said to the eleven year old only to meet Trip's glare. "Skye." He tried to get her attention, but Simmons blocked his view of her.
"If I ever see you again." She grit her teeth. "I'll kill you."
A black sack was pulled over Ward's eyes as he was finally led out of the base with Coulson following.
"What was he talking about?" Skye turned her sister to face her. She hadn't forgotten what the man had told the girl and she wasn't going to let it go.
"Nothing….it doesn't mean anything." Selena shook her head and tried to leave, but her sister grabbed her arm to stop her.
"Selena? Have you been talking to him?" Jemma asked, hoping that the answer would be negative.
"No…..yes."
"Come on, girl." Trip glared at her for the very first time since they met. "You know you weren't supposed to be anywhere near him. How did you get down there without showing up on the feed anyway?"
They all already looked mad and Selena didn't want to say anything to make it worse. But if she lied now, and they found out about it later, it would be worse.
"Remember when I was with you at the cyber desk?" She decided to come clean. "I waited until you got really busy and you weren't looking before I took your tablet and I disabled the audio in the hallway and the vault…..and I looped the footage in the vault to make it seem like nothing was happening."
Selena winced and looked down at her feet when the grip her sister had on her arm got tighter. Maybe she should've just lied and went about her day. She wouldn't be in this mess anyway.
"Oh, Selena." Jemma sounded disappointed."That's why yesterday's footage seemed off."
And that was worse than being mad. At least when someone was mad, they'd yell or scold and it would be all over. But when someone was disappointed, they gave you those hurt looks and talk about how they expected better and how they never thought it would happen this way.
It was awful.
"I'm sorry." Selena bit her lip nervously. Skye still hadn't said anything and it was putting her on edge. She knew that her sister could sometimes fall victim to her explosive temper and she really really hoped that she wasn't about to become one of her latest targets.
"You lied to me?" Trip almost looked hurt and it broke Selena's heart, She hadn't even realized how much her actions would affect everyone else. "Selena, that's…..that't not what we do."
"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."
It had never even occurred to her that she'd been lying to the man. She just wanted to know what was going on. She didn't want any more surprises.
"You say that a lot these days." Skye finally spoke up, her voice very neutral. "You sneak around and lie, then when you get caught, you apologize and we forgive you and act like it never happened. Not this time. This time, you're going to earn our trust back. My trust. I'm not giving it to you freely."
"I'm sorry." Selena's lip quivered.
"Stop apologizing." Skye glared. "Start explaining why you were down there."
Selena opened her mouth to respond, but was interrupted when Coulson made his way back into the base after dropping Ward off in a van to be taken to his brother.
"What's going in here?"
"Selena, why don't you tell him? I'm sure he would love to know." Skye raised an eyebrow.
"What would I love to know?" Coulson grew serious.
"Selena's been talking to Ward." Trip answered when Selena remained silent. "Again."
Coulson ran a hand over his face and Selena looked up at him from under her eyelashes, hoping he wouldn't be too upset with her. "How? I would've seen her go in. I watch that footage every day."
"That's the interesting part, sir." Jemma spoke up, shocking the child. She didn't think that she'd tattle on her. She must've really upset her. "Selena managed to take possession of one of our tablets and cut off the audio to the hallway near the vault and loop the footage both in that same hallway and inside the vault without any of us noticing."
Selena's worn down shoes were suddenly becoming the most interesting things in the world. She loved the way the black leather shined in contrast with he light overhead.
"Eyes up." Coulson spoke sternly, snapping her out of her thoughts. "I thought we already went through this. You practically begged me to go on trusting you and I obliged, because you were vulnerable, because you were taken advantage of. What's your excuse this time? Because I'm starting to think that you might not be as remorseful as I believed."
Selena's eyes watered with unshed tears.
"Save the waterworks." Coulson shook his head. "What were you doing down there?"
"Getting answers." Selena sniffled, grimacing at how tight her sister's grip had gotten.
"To what questions?"
"Just questions."
"Selena, you don't have the option to withhold information from me. You're on thin ice." Coulson's voice was colder than Selena had ever remembered it being. "What did he tell you?"
"He told me all about….me." Selena's hand rose to meet her mouth as she began to bite her nails. "He told me about my father….and my mother."
Skye took a deep breath to calm herself down. She didn't want Selena to know about any of that until the time was right.
"That's all I asked for!" Selena noticed the change in her demeanor. "I promise! Nothing else!"
"See, I don't trust you." Skye quipped as if to say, 'I told you so'. "How do I know you're telling the truth, it isn't like you have any proof." She referred to the feed that had been altered.
And honestly, she didn't really mean it, she just said it in the heat of the moment.
But that didn't mean it didn't hurt.
Selena huffed and looked at Trip for help, but the man just shook his head. He was still upset. She hoped that one day he would forgive her and be able to trust her again, because what he thought of her meant a lot.
"We'll go into more detail about this later. Right now, you need to head to your bunk and stay there."
Did she just get grounded by Coulson? This was new.
"Okay." She responded meekly before leaving to do as she was told, glad to be released from her sister's iron grip.
"That was pretty harsh." Trip sighed after Selena was completely out of earshot. He was upset, sure. But that didn't mean he couldn't feel sorry for her. She was still his Curly Sue. "She's just a kid."
"I know." Coulson nodded.
He did know. He would talk to her later. Right now, they had bigger fish to fry.
"Selena?" Fitz knocked on the open door to her bunk and leaned against the doorframe.
"Hi, Fitz." She continued to stare at a wall she'd had her eyes on for the past few hours.
"I heard about — about what happened."
"Are you mad, too?" Selena asked softly. "Everyone's mad at me, because I screwed up again. Even Skye."
"No, I'm not — I'm not mad." Fitz shook his head, before changing the subject. "Uh, Coulson wants me to work on a transceiver and you said you'd like to watch me work, so if you want to come with….."
"Are you sure, you want me around?
"I offered, didn't I?'
"Okay." Selena perked up slightly and followed him to the lab.
She had been in her bunk for about a day and a half and no one had really initiated a conversation with her. Well, besides the typical words in passing. Skye just completely ignored her. She supposed she deserved it. She did sneak around and betray everyone's trust.
That's why she was so shocked when Fitz came to speak to her.
"Why did you ask me to come?" She asked once they reached the empty lab. "Why aren't you mad at me?"
"Really, it isn't any of my business." Fitz shrugged as he got to work. "But, uh, we all make mistakes..…you wanted answers and everyone was leaving you in the dark…...it isn't all your fault."
"Thanks."
"They were trying to protect you and I think they're just upset because they couldn't. They'll come around. In the meantime, we can — we can hang out together."
And who wouldn't smile at that?
Selena had gotten one of her best friends back after she thought she had completely lost him.
Things weren't all bad.
"Trip!" Fitz shouted as two shots rang out, hitting the man square in the shoulder, knocking him down.
"Trip. Trip. Talk to me." Coulson took out the man who had shot him and knelt down, nearly panicking when he didn't receive an answer.
"Oh, sir, he's gonna bleed out."
"We need to stop it." Coulson pressed against the wound, hoping to stop the bleeding.
"I can help." A man came from out of the shadows. "I'm a doctor."
"Can you control it?" Coulson didn't have the energy to even question where this man came from.
"First went through clean." The man assessed the damage. "The second bullet is deep." He made use of a small selection of tools. "There's a lot of blood. Got to get it out. Hand me the scalpel."
"Fitz glanced at the three, still working on the transceiver, while Coulson did as the man requested, allowing him to dig into Trip's shoulder.
"Clamp."
"I prefer we stabilize and move." Coulson handed him the instrument.
"The bullet's holding the wound open. If we keep our heads about us, he has a chance, Phil."
The fact that this mystery man knew Coulson's name alarmed him. He never mentioned it. So how did this man know?
"Shouldn't have said, 'Phil'." The man chuckled even though nothing about the situation was even remotely funny. "Not supposed to know that. You probably wouldn't recognize me from the picture I left for her. Though, I haven't changed as much as she has since then."
Coulson, realizing just who this man was, pointed his gun directly at him.
"If I let go of this clamp, he dies." The man said. "I just sliced this man's brachial artery, Mr. Coulson, hand me the gun." He looked up at him, before turning to Fitz. "You too, son."
"Fitz." Coulson reached out behind himself, taking the gun that Fitz handed over. "You'd use this man's life as bargaining chip?"
"An opportunity, actually." He began to look a little crazed. "To get out of this sticky situation. And we got to know each other a bit."
"Skye wouldn't want Trip to die." Coulson didn't even bother mentioning Selena to protect her from this man.
"She's not here, is she?" He perked up at the mention of his daughter. He really didn't want her to see him like this. She would think so little of him. And he already lost one daughter due to his violent tendencies. But when Coulson shook his head, he let out a sigh. "That's a relief. I'm only gonna get one chance at a first impression. This doesn't look very good."
"You've already made an impression." Coulson nearly rolled his eyes. "Pile of bodies, going to work for Whitehall. I don't think it's good for Skye to—"
"—You're not her father!" Skye's father spat. "You're S.H.I.E.L.D., who took her from me. I need Whitehall. The end will justify the means."
"The end." Coulson raised an eyebrow. "And that's gonna happen in the city we're both here to find?"
"Yes. I anticipated you'd be close, but you're already trying to map Earth." The man glanced at Fitz. "I guess we had the same idea. Whitehall didn't even know about the city until I turned him onto it. He thinks the Diviner is just a weapon. He has no idea of its true power, of what's inside."
Coulson looked shocked. He hadn't known all of that.
"Oh, there's something inside."
"What are you talking about? Tesseract-level power?"
"Sure, I don't know what that is."
"You realize we're talking about life and death here."
"I know." The man smiled. "It's exciting, isn't it? I mean, both sides racing to the temple. Life and death, flesh and blood, emotion! Who knows how it'll shake out? All I know is, my baby's gonna be right there in the center of it."
"I know you want to meet her." Coulson appealed to his humanity. Or what little was left of it.
"Oh, I can't wait. I mean, I have to wait for the right circumstances, but—"
"—Cause if you let this man die, Skye will never—"
"—That's not her name!" The crazed man boomed, even making Fitz freeze. "And I won't let him die. I'm gonna tell you just how to save him, which will give me time to get away. Two syringe packets inside..…sorry, it's a bit of a mess in there."
Coulson found the items and held them up, waiting for instruction.
"When I release this, you're gonna pump his wounds full of that clotting agent as fast as you can, if you want to save his life. And apply pressure, okay? Here we go."
"We'll find you." Coulson spoke before they started. "And when we do, you and I will finish this conversation."
"I look forward to it." The man smirked before rushing off. Leaving the two men to race against time to save Trip.
"You're very lucky." Simmons spoke as she finished patching Trip up, while Selena sat a distance away, pretending to read a book. She had been interested in what it was about, but some of the words were big and hard to understand. It was hard to read. "If they hadn't used that clotting agent on your wound…..well, let's just say I'm glad they did. I recommend a week of solid bed rest."
"Best rest?" Trip chuckled, lifting his shirt to put it on over his head. "Where's that in the S.H.I.E.L.D. hand book?"
"Whoa, stop it!" Jemma panicked. "You're going to rupture you sutures."
"I won't be high-fiving anybody for a while, but I'm okay, Jemma. There was a doctor in the house, remember?"
"So, what was he like?"
"Skye and Selena's dad?"
Selena must've been so quiet that neither of them had detected she was even there. She didn't think they'd be talking about this if they knew where she was.
"The man was out of his damn mi — hey!" Trip smiled once Skye entered the room. When Selena saw her, she ducked under the table and listened. "Hi, Skye."
She and her sister still weren't talking, apparently.
"Hey, yourself. Mission prep in five, cargo hold." She replied.
"Right." Simmons smiled. "Roger that." She shared a look with Trip, making Skye realize just exactly what they were talking about before she came in.
"Talking about my dad?"
"I'm sorry. It must be so—"
"—Messed up?" Skye supplied.
"Yeah."
"My dad, Ward, The Obelisk, the city, it's all messed up. And…..I just — I can't shake this vibe that something really bad is about to happen."
"You mean like someone getting shot?' Trip joked. "Yeah, I got that covered already, so you can lose that vibe. We're good."
"That's right." Simmons agreed. "Yeah. Nothing but positive thoughts from here on out." She reached down and knocked on wood. "That's not wood, is it?"
The three share a smile before they made their way to the cargo hold.
Selena held back for a few seconds, just so it made it seem like she wasn't following them.
But when she stood up, she noticed Trip had never actually left. "Hi."
"Hi, yourself." He smirked. "Eavesdropping again?"
"No." The eleven year old shook her head. "I was here before you guys came in, but you didn't notice me." She explained. "And you're talking to me again?"
"Selena." Trip sighed heavily. The confused look on her face was enough to make a grown man cry.
"Cause I thought you were still mad." She continued. "Everyone's mad...except Fitz."
"I'm not mad at you." Trip shook his head. "I was upset, because you went behind my back and lied to my face. And I was worried that Ward filled your head up with lies again. You weren't in a good place the last time he did."
"I didn't mean to lie to you. Sorry." Selena scuffed her shoe on the ground beneath her. "I just wanted answers."
"C'mere." He beckoned her over and pulled her in for a tight hug. "You're alright. Next time you wanna know something? Ask. It's that simple."
"Okay."
"Now, let's go and see what Coulson wants." He grinned and threw her giggling form over his shoulder as he made his way to the cargo hold. "Why're you laughing?"
"Here's what we know." Coulson spoke once the entire team was present. "Hydra's on the move. They have The Obelisk and an expert who knows how to use it. We can't let that happen, obviously."
"Use it how?" Hunter asked.
"Based on our latest intel, there's something very powerful inside it, a weapon."
"Are we talking chemical, biological, energy based…..?" Mack questioned.
"Could be be anything, it's alien." Fitz answered.
"While Simmons and I were undercover at Hydra, Whitehall was looking to create an extinction level event, to kill millions of people. We have to assume this weapon has the potential to do that." Bobbi spoke up.
Selena had met Bobbi. They never really sat down to have a real conversation, but she liked her well enough. She trusted her.
"Because bad guys love their WMDs." Coulson responded to her. "Trick is, to activate, The Obelisk had to take it to a specific place. It's like they have keys to launch a nuclear warhead—"
"—Now they need the lock — a temple inside the city." Skye caught on.
Selena glanced in her sister's direction, but was only put out when she turned away.
"Any ideas where this temple is?" Simmons asked.
"Glad you asked." Coulson smiled. "No. But, it's in the city and we now know where that is. Even better, Hydra doesn't, Fitz."
"On our mission to Australia, we hacked a military satellite network." Skye debriefed as Fitz brought up the files on the holographic towers. "Using that, we ran a multispectral topographic scan of the Earth, miles deep through the oceanic crust looking to match ancient rock formations with the 3-D model of the city. And we found this." She focused on one particular area on the holographic globe.
"Isn't that in the Bermuda Triangle?" Trip asked. "Cause that would explain a lot."
"Actually." Coulson shook his head. "It doesn't have anything to do with the triangle. We solved that back in the '80s."
"Ah, Atlantis?"
"Try Puerto Rico."
Selena didn't know much about the early years of her childhood, but she knew she was born in Puerto Rico. Bayamón to be exact. She had spent a lot of her life there before she was relocated to New York City on the mainland.
As far as she knew.
So at the mention of her homeland, she perked up.
"These white markers represent vertical air shafts that are close to the surface." Skye zoomed in. "Possible entry points for the city, but most of them are under the ocean floor."
"Except for one.' Coulson added. "Here in Old San Juan, where we'll enter the underground city, a survey team will test the tunnel's structural integrity then locate the temple."
"And then what, sir?"
"We blow it up."
"What about The Obelisk?" Bobbi asked. "It's still dangerous all on its own."
"One crisis at a time." Coulson answered. "Get your gear ready. We leave soon."
Selena watched as everyone slipped out of the room, planning on spending a minute or two by herself.
She had come to like the solace.
"There are certain things you can't know, for your own benefit. You have to trust us." Coulson startled her.
She thought he left. Maybe she was more distracted than she thought.
"Okay, I'm sorry." She apologized for seeing Ward. Again.
"I know." He smiled. "I want to let you know, that you're not staying on The Bus for this one."
"I'm not?"
"No. We need you on this mission. My Spanish is less than conversational and Bobbi's accent is off. We can't give off the impression that we're tourists. And I thought you'd like to go back home for a little while."
"Thank you."
A/N: Aww Selena and Skye are having their first of many sisterly fights! Poor Selena doesn't know what to do with herself, because her sister won't actually talk to her :( Also! I have big 'ol plans for Selena's backstory that runs all the way to Season Four in the Framework. I'm so excited to share it with you all! However, remember there are gaps in Selena's memories and things she isn't going to be told for a very long time. Hopefully, it'll be a shock to all of you ;)
