Chapter Seventeen:

A/N: Everything begins to change in this chapter! Enjoy! :)

"No tails on the way in, none that I could spot, anyway." Bobbi spoke as she, Coulson, and Selena got out of a red jeep and walked the streets of San Juan.

As soon as Selena's foot touched the ground and the breeze hit her, she smiled so widely, she thought her face would split in half.

She was home again. She hadn't realized how much she missed it here.

"Then we're good." Coulson put on a pair of shades. "You ever have the fried plantains here?"

Selena gave him a 'duh' look and playfully rolled her eyes.

"Tostones? Yeah, why?" Bobbi asked.

"I read about this place down the street where they put crab in them." Coulson explained. "I wouldn't mind trying that. You know, after we save the world."

"I prefer Mofongo dripping with garlic sauce." Selena sighed happily.

The two had noticed the complete change in her demeanor and shared a smile. She looked less…..stressed and more like a child.

"What's the difference?" Bobbi asked, wanting to engage in a conversation.

"Tostones are mashed to make like a chip shape and Mofongo is mashed up with a pilón and molded so it sits like a mountain. It fills you up more than the tostones do, though."

"We'll have to try some when we're done here." Coulson smiled. "Any suggestions?"

"Yeah, somewhere else that's not a tourist attraction. Over here, they make good food, but it doesn't have that home cooked flavor…and if we don't get to stop, I know how to make it. Homemade sofrito is the best sofrito."

"I'll take you up on that offer." Coulson nodded.

"Me too." Bobbi looked at her cellphone as they walked to The Plaza. "Diego texted me. He's gonna be late. He's always late. Said he'd meet us on the other side of The Plaza."

"This contact of yours, can we trust him?"

"He's a politician, so, no, but he likes me."

"And he can get us those architectural plans?"

"Yes, and he'll keep the local cops off of us. Things could get sticky depending on where we're digging."

"Oh, hats!" Coulson grew excited when they arrived in the middle of The Plaza where locals were selling goods. He took off his sunglasses and tried a hat on. "What? Too small?"

"Way too small." Selena giggled as Bobbi rolled her eyes. "I'm hungry."

"Selena?" A familiar voice called her.

"Uh oh." It was too late to hide. She would have to roll with this.

"Who is that?" Coulson asked her.

"Piraguera." Selena responded as the woman pushed her cart towards them.

"What?"

"She sells piragua, uh.…shave ice!" Selena found the word in English. "I never had any money and I was always hanging around here, so she'd always give me one for free…whenever I would come by. She's kind of like everyone's grandmother."

"Oye, Selena! Cómo estás, mamita? Cuántos años han pasado desde que te vi?"

"Wela." Selena smiled and allowed the woman to hug her. "Me mudé hace dos o tres años. Te he extrañado!"

"Quiénes son esta gente contigo?" The woman smiled at Bobbi and Coulson who waved.

"Amigos." Selena smiled, unwilling to lie to the old woman. "Ellos son buena gente, Wela. Pero necesitamos que hables en inglés por favor."

"Ah." Wela smiled at the two. "Hello. How are you? I hear you are friends of Selenita."

Selena face palmed at the nickname as her cheeks flushed. She wanted to crawl into a hole.

"Hi, nice to meet you." Bobbi smiled as Coulson shook the old woman's hand. "If you don't mind me asking, how did you and Selena meet?"

Selena groaned and attempted to walk away, but Coulson grabbed her by her backpack and forced her to stay put. "No. No." He smirked. "We've got time to kill. I'd like to hear this story too."

"Are you sure? Because I think it's boring." Selena tried.

"No, I'm sure." Coulson smirked before motioning for the woman to begin her story.

"I met Selena when she was about four or five years old." Wela smiled at the memory. "She was….ella estuvo muy al garete…..un revolú. Selena, translate that for me, Nena."

"She means that I was a golden child."

"Selena."

"Okay!" Selena folded. "I was 'out of control' and I was always in trouble."

"So nothing's changed." Coulson joked.

"." Wela grinned. "I caught her stealing from my cart and she thought I didn't notice her sticky little fingers."

"See? Something did change. I don't steal anymore."

"Oh, so that wasn't you who stole an entire batch of cookies the other day?" Bobbi deadpanned.

"You have no proof, so it wasn't me."

"So the next time I saw her, I gave her una piragua gratis. She was a sweet child. I would watch her play and try to keep up with the bigger children. It was cute." Wela wiped a tear away from her face and forced a smile back on. "But I won't keep you, enjoy your time back home, yes?"

Selena smiled and allowed the woman to pull her into another hug. Wela held up a hand for them to wait and turned back to her cart, handing them each a shave ice. Selena's was her favorite flavor, mango. "Thank you."

"I used to love these as a kid." Bobbi licked hers and grinned before she and Coulson gave the two a minute. "Nothing like shave ice on a hot day."

"Selenita. Escúchame, por favor." Wela grew more serious than Selena had ever seen her.

"Qué pasa?" The eleven year old furrowed her eyebrows.

"Tan mucho cuidado, Selenita. Prométeme."

"Wela. You're scaring me." Selena grew nervous at how frantic the woman was becoming. "What are you talking about?"

"No tengas miedo, querida. Ten cuidado. Algo está pasando, mamita. Ten cuidado. Prométeme."

"Wela, I—"

"Please?"

Selena looked into the woman's eyes and saw how scared she was, before she nodded. "Prometo, Wela. Prometo."

"Good." Wela's smile was labored. She wasn't fooling herself and she wasn't fooling Selena either. "Hold onto those friends of yours. Enjoy yourself. They are good people. Es muy difícil encontrar gente buena." She pressed an envelope into Selena's hand. "Do not open it until the time is right."

"How will I know?"

"Tú sabrás."

And with a final kiss on the cheek, Wela pushed her cart and walked out of eyesight, leaving Selena to watch as she went.

Though Selena didn't know, that would be the very last time she would ever see the old woman. If she had known, she would've given her the biggest hug and kiss her body would allow.

"With all due respect, sir, this kind of op, Fury would have a number." She heard Bobbi tell Coulson as she made her way over to the two, still a little dazed by what she had been told.

"A number?"

"Of acceptable losses." Once they realized that Selena had rejoined them, they made their way to a place that looked very much like a fort or watch tower.

"El Morro." Selena breathed. She never really liked to play around here, because of some silly story that adults used to tell their children.

"My number is zero." Coulson continued the conversation. "And for the record, I hate that phrase. That's why I brought Fitz-Simmons. Not just to find the temple, but to assess its structural integrity, minimize injury or destruction."

"Minimize destruction?" Bobbi scoffed. "You really aren't Fury, are you?"

"Come on, Bobbi. You ought to know me by now. Rather use a scalpel than a shot gun."

"Well, it's Hydra. Might need the shotgun."

"Why do you think I brought you?" He smirked and put his sunglasses back on.

Bobbi smiled before looking over her shoulder, noticing a man who looked like he had been waiting for them. "That's Diego. I'll be right back."

"The Fort of San Cristobal, held off the Dutch, the English, the Americans." Bobbi spoke as the three walked along the fort.

'But apparently, not the aliens." Coulson sighed. "Looks like your buddy, Diego, drew those plans."

"He got them from the city archives. They're older than San Juan itself."

"According to Skye's satellite spectrometry, there's a vertical shaft under this fort."

"Looks like it's right at the water's edge. I think we'll get a better vantage point from up there." Bobbi pointed upwards before leading them in that direction. "According to the map, the garrison is located underneath that sentry tower."

"That's the deepest part of the fort."

"And inaccessible to the public."

"With good reason." Selena put her two-bits worth in, making them both look at her. "What? You never heard the stories?"

"Won't be easy to get equipment down there." Coulson shook his head. "Get a hold of Diego, see if he can help us out. We meed to stay ahead of Hydra."

"Even if Hydra locates the city, how do you think they plan on unlocking The Obelisk? I mean, nobody can even touch the thing."

"That we know of."

"That's ridiculous." Bobbi glared at Diego.

"I swear on my life, it's true!"

Selena watched the two argue with a knowing look on her face. "Traté de decirles. No escucharon," She told Diego with a nonchalant shrug.

"See?" Diego motioned towards the child. "Even the kid knows! I am not going down there!"

"Neither am I." Selena agreed. "I'll see you when you get out…if you get out."

"Selena? You're not helping."

"I've spent many years on this island and never once stepped foot in there. I'm pretty good at self-preservation. Why ruin my streak now?"

"It's just a story."

"Okay. Then you should have no problem going in by yourself." Selena smirked. "Besides, I'm only eleven. I'm not an agent. You just needed me to translate in the streets. I did my job. I'm done. I'm not doing any more unless it's outside and above the ground."

"This is serious." Bobbi rolled her eyes. "You promised you would help me. Are you serious?"

Diego mirrored her annoyed expression before walking away.

"You can't leave right now." Bobbi tried to get him to come back, but the man had his mind made up.

"I told you so." Selena smiled cheekily, but immediately fixed her face when Bobbi turned and glared at her.

"Where'd your friend Diego go?" Coulson asked as he got off the phone with May.

"He won't go down the garrison." Bobbi ran a frustrated hand over her face. "Turns out, he's afraid of the legend. And so is Selena."

"What legend?"

"You guys really don't know?" Selena questioned incredulously.

"How's it coming?" Coulson asked as he and Bobbi made their way down the stairs and into the garrison.

"Uh…..well, uh….." Fitz stood up from where he was kneeling, showing the man his tablet. "You should, um…..why don't you—"

"No, it's alright." Simmons smiled. "You go first."

"No, no, that's alright."

"Fitz, this is your—"

"—I know, but you—"

"—Someone start talking." Coulson cut in.

"Uh, we are ready to deploy, sir." Fitz spoke.

"Would you like me to—"

"—No." Fitz turned away from Jemma. "No, um…" He turned to Mack for help, but the man refused.

"Don't look at me."

"Uh….the, um…" He finally looked back at Jemma for her help.

"Tectonic stress levels?"

"Tectonic stress levels, yes. And the structural…."

"Structural integrity of the tunnels, how damaged they are."

"And how deep they go." Fitz-Simmons shared a look. They were finally getting back to where they were.

"How will you know what the temple looks like?"

"Well, we'll know it when we see it, I guess." Mack supplied. "Where's the kid?"

"She was afraid to come in, because of the legend." Bobbi winked. "She's right outside and we'll hear her if she needs us."

"We'll be depending entirely on the data the dwarves send us." Simmons explained.

"What just happened?" Coulson watched as Fitz eyed his tablet with a nervous look on his face.

The dwarves had started to glitch and disappeared completely from the tablet, leaving a loud beeping noise in its wake, coming from the pit.

"Uh, the tablet's still working." Fitz knelt to look down as Mack did the same.

"Looks like they just went out."

Selena paced by and forth for a while, taking in the island breeze before she got bored. She was still just as hungry as she was before.

Maybe if she stopped inside a restaurant and got some food, she could run back here before anyone found out she ever left.

That wouldn't hurt anything. Besides, it wasn't like she could get lost.

So, making the executive decision to get something to eat, Selena rushed off towards the inner city and ran into a restaurant.

"Hello, may I help you?" A lady from behind the counter smiled at her.

"Can I get empanadillas?" Selena smiled back. "Two beef, four chicken, two guava…..with mayo ketchup?"

"That'll be $9.50." The woman told her. "Would you like something to drink?"

"Two bottles of water, please? And one alcapurria."

"$12.75. You must be very hungry. Where are your parents?"

"They're outside feeding the birds with my little brother." Selena lied on the spot, looking the woman directly in the eyes, before handing her the money.

"Enjoy your meal." The woman handed her the food and watched as the child skipped out of the shop, before shaking her head and getting back to work.

Selena stopped once she got outside and pulled off her backpack, shoving the bag of food inside of it, before she slipped the bag back on her back. It was a little heavier now, but it was worth it to carry it all this way just for the food.

As she trekked back to El Morro, she didn't notice Ward following her. She didn't even manage to make it across The Plaza before he grabbed her from behind and turned her around.

"There you are!" He sighed in relief as locals looked on. "I've been looking everywhere for you! How many times do I have to tell you not to wander off?"

"Ward….." Selena gasped, trying to rip herself out of his grip. "No, no, no…..not again…..please, not again." She tried to keep a cool head, but this was the same man who dropped her into the ocean and then proceeded to fill her head with lies.

"Your mother is worried sick!" He shook her before lifting her up.

When she felt her feet leaving the ground, Selena began to scream and fight, but she only looked like a little kid throwing a tantrum. So the locals didn't really pay her any mind.

"Corre! Corre! Él está loco! Ayúdame!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, fighting against Ward. "Escúchame, por favor!" She managed to get out before she felt a sharp prick in her side and was carried away.

She hoped that somebody had gotten the message, because if it didn't get to Coulson, she was doomed.

Selena woke up to her stomach tossing and turning. As she opened her eyes, she realized that she was over someone's shoulder with her hands tied in front of her.

"Maybe you don't remember, but we've played this game of 'let's kidnap Skye' before, and it didn't end well." She heard her sister's voice, but was too groggy to say anything. "And now you're dragging my sister along for the ride? Seriously?"

"That's not my concern." Ward held up a knife and cut the zip ties around the older girl's wrists before handing Selena over to her and cutting hers too.

"Really? Then what is it?" Sky hiked the child high up onto her hip.

"Keeping my promises." Ward walked to a door and opened it, revealing their father, who was sitting on a couch in the middle of the room.

"I'm sure you three have a lot of catching up to do." Ward looked at them for a moment before leaving them alone.

Selena stretched and blinked back the sleepiness in her eyes before looking at the man she had never seen before.

"Look at that." She grinned and Selena thought he looked a lot like a Cheshire Cat. "The way you tilt your head. It's just like…..is it nature or nurture?" He began to pace, making Skye tighten her hold on her sister. "I promised myself…..I wouldn't get emotional. Just….I've waited so long for this moment….Let's try again."

Selena stared at him with doe eyes and wrapped her arm's around Skye's neck, never wanting to let go.

They hadn't spoken to each other in a couple of days, but none of that seemed to matter now.

They needed each other.

"Hi. I'm Cal. I'm your father, would you like to sit down?"

Skye shook her head and Selena buried her face in her neck before Cal could get a good look at her.

"Right. Me neither….." Cal had to take a minute to compose himself. "Thank you for meeting with me."

"Thank you for — are you serious?" Skye stepped forward. "I was kidnapped off a plane at gunpoint, my sister was drugged! That's all you have to say?"

"You're right. Oh, I'm sorry. Let's not lose our heads. I—I'm just a little nervous. I hope it's okay to admit that to you both." He breathed.

Selena didn't move. This guy was crazier than Ward. She would rather take her chances with him.

"This is a big moment. Father, daughters, family reunion. I wanted it to be perfect. I—I had plans. Those little almond cookies, you know? Flowers, maybe. Not here. My goodness. You're beautiful. Both of you."

Selena whimpered and began to play with her sister's hair, wishing they could just hurry up and get out of there.

"Well, I don't know what you know about me."

"You're a monster, a murderer, trail of death wherever you go." Skye spat.

"Those are all true." Cal averted his eyes uncomfortably. "But you need to understand. My little girl was…..you were taken from me and my world fell apart. It was was the worst day of my life, losing you. And then your sister…she was just like you when she was a baby. We spent two wonderful years together, but I never stopped searching for you! And then — then she was taken from me and I lost it all over again…..but I didn't lose you. I wasn't careless." He grew angry. "I didn't forget you both were stolen from me!"

Selena squeaked and Skye took a step back, seeming to calm his anger.

"I wasn't always like this." He sat down and motioned for her to do the same. "I wasn't always a…oh." He steadied himself before pointing at Skye. "You were born in China. Your mother was Chinese. When you were first born, we were so happy. I worked in a clinic. People liked me. I liked myself."

"So what happened?" Skye set Selena down and the girl wasted no time in moving behind her, peeking out from time to time.

"Hmm?" The man looked like he had been distracted. "This is the thing I wanted to say. And you, Little One." He looked at Selena. "You were born in Manhattan." He debunked yet another lie she had been told. "Your mother was from Scotland. Her mother was Puerto Rican and her father was Scottish, and she flew over to America to experience something new. And she was so beautiful. We met in Manhattan, I was working there at the time. We went on several dates after we hit it off…..and then got married after a while, then had you. We spent almost two wonderful years together and I'm so sorry you don't remember any of it. We used to take you to the beach and watch you play in the sand with your little shovel and pail. You loved the water. Your favorite thing to do was swim. We were all so happy…..but then she left with you and took it all away!"

Selena flinched at the harsh tone of his voice and held onto Skye's arm.

"I didn't know where you were, I didn't know how to find you…...you only spoke Spanish at the time and you were at the age where it was easy to...…forget. Your mother — she was never seen or heard from again..…and I just gave up hope for a while. I thought you both were better off without me." He breathed heavily. "I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you. That I couldn't protect you…That I couldn't teach you about the stars." He began to tear up as he continued and looked at Skye. "Or sing you to sleep. I know I'm a terrible disappointment, but I'm here now. And everything that's about to happen is supposed to happen. I'm gonna take care of you. Both of you."

"Then get us out of here."

"What? Oh." Cal smiled before quickly frowning. "Maybe I haven't been clear. You're exactly where you're supposed to be. This is your destiny."

"You can't say that you're sorry, or that losing us ruined your life and then kidnap us and say that our destiny is to be locked up with you and Team Hydra." Skye glared. "It's crazy and it's creepy, and I'm out of here." She moved towards the door, holding her sister's hand so tightly, it hurt, but Selena didn't say anything, she just followed her.

Two guards were at the door, preventing them from leaving. Fantastic.

"Tell them to get out of the way." Skye had had enough.

"Sorry, hello." Cal caught their attention. "Little misunderstanding. As you were," He smiled before closing the door.

"I wanna go home." Selena looked up at her sister and she looked so scared, that Skye felt awful for not being able to give her what she wanted. "Let's go home, please?"

"They don't matter. After today, none of them will matter."

"Of course they matter! You work for Whitehall and for Hydra!" Skye raised her voice. "Don't you see what you're doing? She wants to go home! Can't you hear her pleading to go home? Or does that mean nothing to you?"

"Honey—"

"—No! They are the bad guys. That makes you a bad guy."

"No, I don't!" Cal's anger flared up once again. "I don't work for Whitehall!" He shouted as he stepped closer to the two, making them back up. "I could never! I needed him to find you, to put the pieces together. It's not your fault."

Skye pulled Selena towards the couch before sitting down and helping the bag off of her shoulder, so she could pull the child onto her lap in a protective hold.

"You asked about your mother, about what happened to her. Your mother was special. I know some people use that word a lot to describe why they love someone. That's not what I mean. Your mother was special because she had a gift. She comes from a line of people who have gifts. You have a gift." He knelt down in front of the two. "It's why I brought you here. So you can receive it. It's your birthright. There's a transformation, a—a change that has to happen."

"Tell me what happened to my mom."

"She was….there's no easy way to say this. She worked with me at the clinic. My Chinese wasn't very good, so she'd help translate. One day, a group of men came in. They were looking for your mother. We tried to fight. I tried."

"Hydra."

"They called themselves S.H.I.E.L.D. They took her…..and said she was dangerous. I knew better. Her gift wasn't like that. I left you with people I trusted." He moved towards the opposite side of the couch and sat down. "I tracked your mother to Europe. But by the time I caught up with them, it was too late. Whitehall brutalized her and disposed of her like she meant nothing. I'm sorry."

Selena, sensing that her sister was upset and needed comfort, took both of her hands in her own and rubbed her thumbs along their backs.

Cal began to hum and rested his hand on Skye's shoulder. And at first she felt disgusted by the fact that he was touching her, but when she recognized the song, her eyes widened. "I've heard that before."

It was a nursery rhyme.

Daisy Bell (Bicycle Built for Two).

"She used to sing it to you when you were a baby." He began to hum a different tune.

Selena's eyebrows furrowed as it sparked something in her the way the last song did in her sister. "I bought you Violet's for your furs, and it was spring for a while, remember?" Selena sang, a smile breaking out on her father's face. "I bought you violets for your furs, and then there was April in that December. The snow drifted down on the flowers, and it melted where it lay..…"

"That's beautiful." Skye commented.

"It's my favorite song."

"It was your mother's too." Cal added, wiping away a tear. "She couldn't decide which version she liked best, though. Frank Sinatra or Billie Holliday."

"I'm hungry." Selena wanted to move on from all the displays of emotions. She had no idea what to say to that, so she just changed the subject.

"You're always hungry." Skye shook her head, watching as her sister opened her bag and pulled out a paper bag full of food. "Where did you get all this?"

"Well…..I was waiting for everyone else and I went to get food, only I didn't get to eat any of it because Ward kidnapped me…again."

Cal flinched at the comment, but decided not to say anything.

"What's in here?" Skye asked, looking inside the bag. "Smells good."

"I have some chicken, beef, and guava empanadillas, alcapurria, and water. What do you want?"

"Beef." Skye smiled. "Thanks. I haven't eaten all day."

"What about you?" Selena looked at Cal. She still didn't trust him, but she wasn't going to eat right in front of him like that.

"Oh, nothing for me. I'm not hungry, Sweetheart. You two eat."

Selena shrugged and wiggled off of Skye's lap, sitting on the opposite side of her, before taking a huge bite out of her food. "Mm." She grinned and dipped it in her special sauce. "Try it."

"What is it?"

"Mayoketchup. It's good, I promise!"

Skye raised an eyebrow, looking at the sauce skeptically, before she dipped her food in it. "Okay, wow. Yeah, that's good."

"If I knew I was gonna see you today, I would've gotten you some more, sorry."

"Hey, I'm the big sister, remember?" Skye mock glared. "I'm supposed to worry about you."

Cal just watched the two with happiness written all over his face. This is how he always wanted it to be. They found each other and now they were connected.

"What happened to us?" Skye asked him suddenly, ignoring the crumpling that Selena was making as she put the left over food in her bag.

Cal just continued to hum, but was interrupted by a guard throwing the door open.

"Dr. Whitehall wants you."

"I'll make plenty of time to answer all of your questions. But first…." Cal stood up and walked to the door. "Now that he's served his purpose, I'm gonna get rid of the man who destroyed my life." He smiled. "Best day ever."

Skye held back tears and wrapped her arms around her sister, at a loss for what to do. But she knew they couldn't stay there. "Come on." She stood up, taking the child's hand.

"Come on, what?" Selena followed her to the door. "Where are we going, Skye?"

"We're getting out of here."

"Did he hurt you?" Cal stirred at Skye's feet after having been knocked out.

Skye's little plan to escape didn't go too well. The sisters tracked their father, found Whitehall and had the tables turned on them.

Now, they were tied to chairs in an empty room with Ward.

"I've waited years for this." Cal looked at Whitehall, before lunging at him. What he didn't know, was Whitehall put some sort of device on his that could incapacitate him with the single press of a button.

With one small click, Cal went down. Hard.

"Do you know what your mother's special gift was?" Whitehall asked Skye, kneeling before her.

"No."

"She didn't age. At least, not like the rest of us. I wonder if that's your gift as well." He reached out and tapped her knee with his fingers. "Or if you're special in another way. Discovery requires experimentation." He spoke, turning back to Cal. "I killed your wife. And before I kill you, I want you to watch what I do to your daughters."

But before he could do anything, several gunshots rang out, catching his attention.

"Stay here." He instructed a guard, as he exited the room.

"Yessir."

The four that were left in the room, just stared at one another as the shots grew louder, as they grew closer.

"Hey." Ward looked at the guard. "Hear that? They're coming for us. I saw how many guys you have on your side." He shook his head. "You are sorely outnumbered, my friend. Tell you what, let me go now, I'll tell them to take it easy on you. Maybe cut off an ear, pop an eye out."

"Shut up." The guard snarled.

Cal had managed to follow Ward's distraction tactics and took the device off his neck, surprising the guard with a sneak attack that Selena forced herself to turn away from.

"You're welcome." Ward noticed the man looking at him. "Now, let's get out of here."

"Yeah, me too! Come on!" Skye called.

"It's safer here. And I'm about to do something to Whitehall, I don't want you to see me like that." Cal explained. "Watch your sister."

"I don't mind seeing." Ward smiled. "I'm happy to help."

"No, I get to do this myself." Cal refused and left them behind.

"I'm sorry your little family reunion didn't go as planned." Ward cut his zip ties before moving to cut Skye's. "Sit down while I check the door."

Selena glared at him as he moved towards her. He didn't really scare her anymore, but looking at his face just made her very angry.

He was awful!

"Don't kick me." He raised his hands in surrender before he freed Selena, making his way to the doorway to find an escape route.

Of course, Skye didn't listen to a word he had to say. She grabbed a gun from the fallen guard and held it up to Ward. "Selena, cover your eyes." She said, before firing four shots with zero hesitation.

"Skye!" Selena screamed, her hands covering her eyes. She felt her sister grab her and pull her to the doorway.

"Never turn your back on the enemy. You taught me that." She told Ward, who had since dropped to the ground in agony, before leading Selena out of the room completely.

"What's that noise?" Selena asked, uncovering her eyes as they turned down several corners. It sounded like people were yelling at each other and someone was getting beat up. Badly.

They followed the sound, finding Cal sitting on top of Coulson, repeatedly punching him as hard as he could.

"No!" Selena screamed in horror. If this was what her father was, she wanted no part of him.

"Stop it!" Skye commanded, pointing the gun in his direction, but it didn't stop him. "Stop it, or I'll shoot!"

"You're hurting him!" Selena's voice broke. "Leave him alone!"

But Cal only hit Coulson harder.

"Dad!" Skye finally screamed, shocking Cal out of whatever trance he was in.

"He took something from me."

"No. He saved you from killing more people." Skye stepped off the stage. "Now get up, and get away from him." She growled as Selena rushed to Coulson, throwing her arms around him.

"You have to finish what we started."

"No, I don't. I'm not going down there. I'm not gonna change or transform, or whatever it is you think is gonna happen."

"Why can't you see it's a good thing?"

"Are you okay?" Selena whimpered, looking at all the blood on Coulson's face, laying her head on his chest, wanting nothing more than to hear his steady heartbeat.

"I'm okay. I'm gonna be okay. Don't cry." He breathed, weakly resting a hand on the back of her head. "I'm okay."

"He hurt you, I'm so sorry."

"It isn't your fault."

"But he's our father. We come from…..him." She sobbed.

"Maybe it's all the dead bodies laying around, or the fact that Hydra wants it." Skye continued her conversation. "I'm gonna make sure The Obelisk never gets down into that city. And you're gonna leave it. This is your one chance to get away, or I will kill you."

"Okay." Cal conceded sadly. "I'll go. But I'll be waiting for you. After you change, no one else will understand. They'll be afraid. Change is terrifying. But I'm your father and I love you. I love you both so much." He looked at Selena, who cowered away from him. "I will always love you Daisy…..Violet." He whispered before leaving.

Skye let out a huge sigh of relief before rushing over to Coulson. "I'm so sorry." She spoke frantically. "I couldn't kill him. I couldn't kill him. I'm so sorry."

Coulson reached up and rested a hand on her cheek, not wanting her to blame herself.

"I'm so sorry." Skye shook her head. "I'm gonna make it right. I'm gonna find The Obelisk." She stood up.

"No."

"I'm gonna stop the drill. I'm gonna make it right." Skye cried before rushing out the door.

"No, Skye!" Coulson wanted to stop her, but he couldn't get up. "Skye, no! Don't go down there!"

"I'll get her!" Selena was in hysterics by all she had seen. "I'll get her!" She jumped up and dashed after her sister.

"Selena, stop!"

She heard Coulson calling after her, but she didn't stop.

She had to find Skye.

No matter what.

"Skye!" Selena raced through the tunnels, squinting to see in the dark, urgently trying to find her sister before it was too late. "Skye, where are you?!"

Upon receiving no answer, the eleven year old kept on running.

"Skye and Selena have gone down. Coulson went to stop them." May told Bobbi and Hunter as they looked down the huge hole in the basement.

She sounded exasperated. She wanted nothing more than to go down there, but she had work to do up above ground.

"Why on earth would they do that?!" Hunter blurted.

Honestly, those two got into more trouble than anyone else he had ever met.

Including himself.

"We need to clear this place, now."

"Copy that." Bobbi spoke reluctantly, more than concerned for her friends as she did so.

She just hoped they would come out of this alright.

It was all she could do.

"Skye!" Selena was still running. "Skye!"

How had she managed to lose her sister so quickly? She had been right behind her!

"Skye!" She sprinted until she bumped into something hard, falling onto her behind with a thud. "Oww."

"Selena?"

"Trip!" She grinned, hopping to her feet, throwing her arms around the man's neck.

She was so glad to see him. Now it would be easier to find Skye!

And, she very much disliked running through these tunnels all by herself.

"Selena, what are you doing here?!" He hiked her up onto his hip to make sure he wouldn't lose her in these confusing tunnels.

"I lost Skye!" She told him as he began to run with her in his arms. "She was right here, but it was so dark, I couldn't see her! She said she was gonna fix everything!"

"Oh come on, girl." Trip groaned. These two were going to drive him to drink!

"There she is!" She pointed at a figure that looked a lot like her sister, rushing to a doorway.

"Stay here." Trip squeezed her tightly in a hug before he set the child down. "Do not move. I don't care what happens."

"Trip—"

"—No, Selena! I'm serious! I can't help Skye, if you're in danger! Just stay here! I'll be back in a second." It was the first time he had ever raised his voice at her, and it startled her, but she knew why he felt like he had to do it.

"Okay." Selena nodded. "I'll stay. I promise."

She could do that much. This time, she really would stay put. She knew the situation was serious enough with her running off. Again.

Trip gave her one of his signature smiles, even though it didn't quite reach his eyes, before following Skye through the doorway, just before it closed.

Selena ran after him and leaned against the stone door, trying to hear what was going on inside.

She just hoped things wouldn't turn out as badly as she felt they would.

She felt like she had been waiting for them for hours. But it was only a few minutes.

A scream escaped her throat as the ground started to shake beneath her, making her lose her footing. Debris began to fall from above and she had to throw herself backwards just to dodge a rock that was going to fall directly on top of her.

"Skye! Trip!" She screamed and covered her head, coughing as dust began to kick up.

"Selena?"

"Coulson!" She called, leading him and Mack to her with the sound of her voice. "Mack!"

"What are you doing down here?!" Mack shouted over the noise, helping her stand.

"I came to find Skye!" She responded as Coulson tried to open the chamber door. "Trip went in after her! What's going on?!"

She didn't immediately get an answer. It was a good thing, too. Because the answer wasn't something she was prepared to accept.

Not now.

Not ever.

A/N: Lots of translations this time around! Selena and Skye met their father, and Selena had to come in contact with Ward again only to find out that a lot of things she had grown to believe are not true. And that isn't even scratching the surface! Poor Selena :( Poor Skye :(
