A/N: Soooo...I'm back. I haven't abandoned the story, I promise. It's a little hard to find transcripts for season three and on, but I will finish this story. I would just like to send Corn12 a special thank you for reminding me just why I started to write this story in the first place. I read your review and honestly, I was touched and inspired. This one is for you. :)

Chapter Twenty:

"Not bad." May nodded in approval after having been pinned by Skye. "But once I'm pinned, you should try for a finishing blow."

She stood up as Skye did her best to catch her breath, nearly keeling over in exhaustion.

"You want full 'Mortal Kombat'?" Skye rolled her eyes in between gulps of water.

"I want you to stop holding back Skye."

"I didn't want to hurt you."

May scoffed in response.

As if.

"I didn't want to try to hurt you." Skye remedied. "I feel like I'm constantly on the verge of….I don't know." She sighed heavily.

"Look, we lost Trip, and it hurts, but you can't shut those feelings out. You can't sustain that."

"Well what's my option?" Skye was clearly sick of all this. "I just lose it right here?"

"We've talked about this. Control. Embrace your emotions, your nerves. Use them…..on your terms." May offered up some words of wisdom.

"I don't know." Skye shook her head. "What I'm feeling is pretty….dark. I'm afraid I'm gonna go postal and tear your head off."

"Go for it." May encouraged the stress relief. "I promise you won't."

The two suddenly felt the presence of someone else, causing May to turn around and see who it was.

"Maybe Skye needs a break." Fitz spoke from his position at the doorway.

"Training is not a group activity." May scolded sharply, watching as Selena skipped her way down the hall and into the room. "That goes for you, too."

"What did I do?" Selena furrowed her eyebrows, unaware of what was going on.

And honestly, what else was new?

"Yeah, I just came down to have — uh, see what…it's about." Fitz stammered.

"I'll tell you what, Fitz, come back in an hour. I'd be happy to show you what it's all about." May narrowed her eyes at the young scientist.

But Skye really didn't want him to get into any trouble. He was only concerned for her. "I'm fine Fitz…..really."

He seemed to take her word for it and nodded, before leaving the room.

Selena watched him go, wondering if he was okay or not.

He certainly was acting funny…..funnier than usual.

"Selena." May snapped her out of her thoughts. "Is there a reason why you're still here?"

"Oh!" Selena smiled sheepishly. "I came to ask you if — if you're allergic to anything…."

May shared a look of confusion with Skye before turning her attention back to the eleven year old. "No, why?"

"No reason…..there's no mission today, right?"

"Not at the moment."

"Good." Selena grinned. "Skye?"

"What?"

"Are you allergic to anything?"

"No." Skye chuckled at the odd question. "Look, if this is an effort to get to know me better, can it wait?"

"No, I got what I wanted." She turned on her heel and skipped out of the room. "Bye!"

"What a strange kid." Skye let out a laugh. "And I say that with love."

"She's up to something." May continued to watch her leave until she was out of her line of vision. "I suggest you go figure it out after this."

"Me? Why?"

"She's your sister. You're supposed to be keeping an eye on her. Make sure she doesn't burn the place down."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Skye waved her off before chuckling to herself. "You know, it would be pretty funny to see you and Fitz go at it—"

Skye quickly cut her sentence short when she saw May's fist flying at her face. She only had a few seconds to block it.

"Okay. I guess we're back on."

"And I'm not holding back."

And this time, it was Skye who ended up on the mats.

Meanwhile, Selena managed to skip all the way to Mack's little workshop, finding both him and Coulson there.

They looked like they were having a serious conversation, so she hopped up onto a counter and watched them work, not wanting to interrupt.

"Sir, I can handle inventory myself. And I hope this isn't about my reaction after—"

"No." Coulson shook his head. "I told you, we're fine." And looking at a case he had previously opened, he continued. "After Puerto Rico, we need to take stock. What happened out there was—"

'…Yeah, I don't like thinking about that." Mack nodded.

"I don't blame you, but I have been thinking about it, and I realized I've been wasting your talents."

"Sir?"

"Look, I know you like it under the hood of a car, but..…I could really use you out in the field. You're a force to be reckoned with, Mack. Believe me."

"Okay, but violence isn't really my thing. You know, that alien crap made me into something I'm not."

"I know, but have you seen yourself?" Coulson tried to convince him of how valuable he really was. "You're a little bit of a beast all the time."

The two finally noticed Selena just sitting there, biting her nails as if she wasn't listening to a serious conversation.

"Selena, what are you doing here?" Coulson asked.

"Huh?" Selena looked up at him.

"What are you doing here? Eavesdropping perhaps?"

"Nah." Selena shook her head and pulled her fingers out of her mouth, wiping them on her jeans. "That's a really bad habit and I really hope that you don't think that lowly of me." She joked.

"You're right. I'm sorry." Coulson apologized. "If you really wanted to listen in on our conversations, you'd do so from the air vents. What do you want?"

"See? That sounds like me." Selena smiled. "I wanted to know if you guys were allergic to anything."

"Seriously?" Mack gave her a look of disbelief.

"Well, yeah."

"You have to be kidding me."

"She isn't." May strutted into the room with a serious look on her face.

Well, more serious than usual.

"Mack is allergic to beets and Coulson is allergic to blueberries. Run along." She continued, answering Selena's question.

"Thank you!" Selena chirped and hopped off of the counter.

"Whatever it is you're up to, you'd better not burn the place down." May grabbed her arm to stop her from rushing off. "If I find anything destroyed, you and I are going to have a problem."

"Okay. Okay." Selena almost rolled her eyes. "It was one time."

"One time too many." Coulson piped up, pointing to the door. "Try not to break anything."

"Is that all you guys think I'm good for?" Selena grumbled and made her way to the door once May let her go. "Más claro no canta un gallo. Necesito encontrar nuevos amigos." She rattled off in Spanish, blowing a raspberry at all of them before she finally did leave.

"A blue dot operative in Portugal phoned in." May spoke once they all stopped laughing at Selena's expense. "You should hear what he has to say."

"Looks like you're starting now."

"Oh, you'll want everyone on The Bus for this."

"We found a couple of other videos of the fight and we've be analyzing them frame by frame, which—"

"—Which didn't get as much in the way of, um…."

"Of anything new." Jemma supplied for Fitz.

"Yeah. Thanks. Um, until we get to…..here." He played a video on the large monitor in the Common Center.

Skye, Coulson, Sif, and Selena were there, listening to what they had to say.

Selena was watching Sif from the corner of her eyes, while clutching her sister's arm, her nails pressed firmly in her mouth.

Some moments, she was just fine. Others, she was extremely clingy and refused to let Skye out of her sight.

This was one of those times.

Once the video rolled, it showed a woman, Lady Sif, hitting the Mace Man in the chest, sending him flying back.

"I do very much enjoy that part." Sif smiled.

"So, he — he's wearing something — something mechanical, and she nailed it." Fitz continued.

"And there's more." Simmons added, zooming into the Mace Man's chest, showing some sort of blue and yellow sparks.

"What is that?" Coulson questioned.

"Blood?" Skye guessed.

"I hope so." Jemma nodded. "It could give us a lead."

"Well, there's no way to know from the video."

"Once we land, Fitz, you go with Hunter and Mack. Handle the forensics." Coulson instructed before looking at Skye. "I need you and Bobbi to talk to witness in the area. See if we can track down where this guys went."

"Sir." Simmons interjected, stopping Fitz on his way out the door. "The science division has loaded the team with heavier suppression artillery. After Raina's vanishing act, we advise that when you find this..…man you contain him first, ask questions later. New ICERs are still in development."

"Very good. Keep me posted."

"New ICERs?" Fitz questioned.

"Oh. The mechanical design is still top notch, but we're looking into a more concentrated dendrotoxin formula."

"And wouldn't that be dangerous?"

"But effective. Given these elevated threats, we can't risk it not being."

"I can't see any blood." Hunter squinted as he, Fitz, Mack, and Selena looked over the all the destruction Sif's fight had brought about on the pier. "Fitz, isn't there some special light that finds blood?"

"Not blood." Fitz didn't bother looking up from his tablet.

"What's up, Magnum P.I.?" Mack joked. "You enjoying this?"

"Who doesn't like a good mystery?" Hunter quipped. "Guess we're both embracing new challenges."

"That means you're taking the permanent position that Coulson offered?"

"He's a man down." Hunter shrugged. "I know you have your reservations, but I like the guy. Don't you want to see how this plays out?"

Selena was in her own little world. She was occupying herself, looking over the railing and into the water.

She loved the feel of the frigid breeze in her face and leaned over to make herself feel like she was flying along with it.

"Oi!" Hunter's exasperated voice snapped her out of her trance. "Get down from there!"

"Why?" Selena smirked, knowing full well that she was making him nervous. "I like it here."

"She's fine, Mama Bear." Mack shook his head, before turning to Selena. "Just make sure you don't go any higher than that, you don't want to fall over."

"Okay." Selena saluted and went back to pretending she was a bird, making Fitz shake his head at her, before something caught his eye.

"This is about where the big guy was standing when Sif nailed him with the sword, right?" Hunter motioned towards the pole they were standing in front of.

"Yeah." Fitz confirmed.

"Look at this." Hunter pointed to a mark that was on the pole. He reached out to touch it, but once his fingers brushed up against it, the pole snapped in half. "I barely touched it! I swear." He threw his hands up.

"Trust me." Mack shook his head. "There is no universe in which I think you did that on your own. Turbo, what do you think?"

Selena had turned around right when the pole fell and her jaw went slack.

This was much cooler than playing pretend.

"See?" Hunter nudged Mack. "Who doesn't like a good mystery?"

"I wanna help! I wanna help!" Selena hopped up and down excitedly.

"Alright." Jemma relented, much to Fitz's chagrin.

He didn't mind her coming in to help them, but there were just some things that she shouldn't be around for.

This was one of them.

"Yay!"

"Whatever." Fitz rolled his eyes. "Just stand back and don't touch anything."

"Okay!"

And Selena stayed true to her word, because as the case opened, she stayed far away from it.

Though it didn't really make a difference in the end.

It was empty.

"Sir." Jemma spoke on comms. "The crate is empty. We have to assume they were all taken at the same time, back in the '40s. Does that mean Hydra has them?"

"And if Hydra doesn't, who does?" Fitz added, watching as Jemma picked up the tablet that had beeped.

"Fitz, what's this?"

"Oh….that's…..nothing." He stumbled over to her. She had found the diagnostics for Skye's results on the tablet and he had to think fast. "It's just a…."

"It's remarkable." Jemma gaped. "Extra macromolecules, just like in Raina's blood but…..different ones. Whose DNA is this?"

"It's uh - it's uh…..a simulation that I created - or a theory of….uh…"

"A simulation?" Jemma grew more excited. "Fitz, this is uncanny."

"Can I have it back, please?"

"The prevision, the detail, it reads as real." She managed to get out before he pulled the electronic away from her.

"Yeah, but it's just a simulation." He set the tablet down somewhere else, before continuing to work.

"Okay." Selena was beginning to regret insisting on helping the two. "This is awkward…..I'm gonna go bother Skye." She couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Those two were really weird.

They obviously liked each other, which in Selena's opinion was super gross, but they refused to acknowledge it. And whenever they had to work together, they either ignored one another or they argued about the dumbest things.

That's why Selena was never ever ever going to get involved with anyone. Kissing was gross and boys were disgusting.

They never listened and they told the dumbest jokes..…like Hunter.

"So, someone was transformed." Selena caught the tail end of the conversation as she entered the room. "A Kree slave warrior created. Have you put it down?"

"No." May shook her head in response to Sif's question as Selena made her way over to her. "She disappeared." She answered, absentmindedly pulling the child into herself.

"What do you know of her?" Sif asked.

"We don't know much about Raina's transformation." Coulson explained. "Skye witnessed it, but didn't see much."

Selena looked at her sister and saw that she was on the verge of freaking out.

"You were there? What did you see?"

"I-I didn't - I mean…..nothing." Skye stammered.

Selena's instincts made her move towards her sister, but May held her still. It was better if she stayed out of it.

"Were the others there?" Vin-Tak spoke up. "The changes may not be on the surface…."

And that's when Selena felt it.

Tiny vibrations. Skye was going to lose control.

"But buried inside." The man continued. "You must understand, these creatures are weapons - abominations. Even if they don't know it."

The vibrations turned into rumbling, which then turned into trembling. The entire base began to shake uncontrollably, pots and pans fell from their places on the wall and clattered onto the ground below.

"Son of Coul, what is this?" Sif asked.

Coulson didn't have an answer. He didn't have a clue.

But May did.

"Skye." She spoke cautiously, still holding onto Selena, causing the girl to look up at her with big doe eyes. "You wanna talk to us?"

"Skye." Coulson stepped forward. "What's doing this?"

"I am."

Sif's eyes widened and she lunged forward to grab her arm, but Skye quickly pulled away with a shout. "Don't!" She backed away, trying her best not to hurt anyone, hands over her head in a feeble attempt to calm herself down.

But it only made it worse.

Selena screamed as the glass window panes shattered and littered the floor. "Skye!" She rushed over to her without a second thought, and wrapped her arms around her waist. And her sister hadn't even tried to push her away. "It's okay! It's okay, Skye!"

"Hand her over. I will take her to Asgard." Sif spoke boldly, not phased by the human barrier Coulson and May created in order to keep her away from Skye. "It will be safer for all of you."

"We will do no such thing." Coulson refused as May cocked her gun.

"The weapon has been activated. It needs to be eliminated before it hurts someone." Vin-Tak told them.

"Skye is not a weapon." Coulson insisted.

"Coulson, no one is saying Skye chose this, but she is dangerous." Sif tried to keep the peace between them.

"I don't want to be this way." Skye choked out, gripping her little sister tightly, as if her life depended on it.

"Imagine what will happen if your powers grow. It may not stop at breaking glass." Sif shook her head. "You could bring down buildings, tear continents apart, hurt people, your sister…."

"I can get a handle on it!"

"That's not what you were designed for." Vin-Tak spat. "And what of the child? Is she also a weapon?"

"She's a child!" Coulson couldn't believe that this man would be willing to kill a child for something she had no control over.

"Touch her and you'll see just how much of a weapon I can be." Skye glared.

"You were designed to destroy, which is why you must be put down. You and your sister share the same blood. It is possible she is also a lethal weapon. She must share your same fate."

"That sounds an awful lot like killing to me." Fitz made his presence known and moved into the room.

"This is not your concern."

May took this distraction as an opportunity to get the girls to safety. She moved quickly and pulled the girls into the hallway. "Let's go."

Vin-Tak made a move to follow, but Coulson jumped in his way, his gun pointed at him and the truncheon directed at Sif. "Fitz, we need Bambino! You want them, you go through me!"

May was steadily pulling Skye through the corridors of the base, with Selena running ahead.

"What's going on?" Simmons asked, exiting the lab.

"Jemma, I'm so sorry." Skye managed to see before she was pulled along.

May took Skye and Selena straight down to the vault where they had been holding Ward and pushed Skye to sit down before she activated the barrier.

Selena sat down next to her sister and tried to comfort her, but nothing seemed to work.

"Hey." May rested a hand on the older girl's shoulder. "Listen to me, just me." She comforted her. "We can do this. You can do this."

"I can't." Skye balled up her fists. "I can't make it stop."

"You will control your emotions, just like we practiced." May spoke as the lights flickered.

"I can't make it stop." Skye insisted as May got off the bed. "Everyone is at risk."

"Just focus. Skye, look at me. Focus. It'll stop."

It was like that panic attack Selena had when everyone was fighting! Skye could calm down!

"Skye?" She spoke up after a period of silence. "Can you tell me four things you can hear?" She remembered when Bobbi coached her and it seemed to help.

"Your voice." Skye decided to indulge her. "May's voice….the room shaking…..and my heartbeat.

"Two things you can feel."

"Your cold hands." Skye quipped, which meant she was calming down. "And these scratchy sheets."

"One thing you can see."

"May's frown."

May fought off a laugh with that comment. The base was still shaking, but not as violently as it was before. Selena had successfully managed to distract her sister's mind from what was bothering her.

But that was short lived.

"Agent May! Release the girl!"

Selena's eyes widened and the shaking grew more and more vigorous as Sif slashed her sword through the barrier.

"May, she'll get through."

"Ignore it." May wasn't going down without a fight. "Remember, focus."

Skye attempted to calm her breathing, but with Sif relentlessly trying to break through the barrier, calming down seemed impossible. "I can't."

The barrier finally came down and Sif made her way into the cell.

May was prepared to do whatever it took to keep the warrior away from Skye.

But it turned out, she didn't have to.

Thinking quickly, Skye grabbed the ICER from May's holster and shot herself in the shoulder, slumping over on the bed.

And just like that, the trembling stopped.

"Skye?" Selena shook her gently. "Skye?"

May rushed over to look her over and was relieved to see the blue dendrotoxins running through Skye's veins.

"She harmed herself." Sif surmised in shock as Coulson entered the vault, racing down the stairs.

"Even though she knew it meant giving up her freedom." He pointed his gun at her.

"All to save the rest of you." She gave him her attention.

"Don't you see? She wants to get better. If you take her away from the people she loves, she'll only get worse."

Sif looked back at Skye and watched as Selena stroked her hair and comforted her sleeping form.

"Don't touch the glass, Selena." Bobbi warned, handing the child a garbage bag. "Here, take this and pick up anything that isn't sharp."

"Okay." Selena didn't have a good history with glass anyway. This was a better alternative.

"Jemma….." Fitz trailed. He knew she was upset with him for not saying anything, but there wasn't much he could've done. "Um….I know you feel that I could've been, um…a bit more forthright—"

"—Forthright?" Jemma chuckled humorlessly, dumping pieces of debris in the trash. "Fitz, as understatements go, I think that qualifies as an instant classic. You lied to me."

"Okay." Fitz nearly shrugged. "So, now we're even. Can you blame me? The way you were going on about Raina, that she's a-a plague to be eradicated? I mean—"

"—Skye is my friend! She's different!"

"Oh, yeah. Like I was your friend and then I changed. How did you handle that?"

"Uh." Mack interjected awkwardly. "The point is, secrets don't help any of us. Skye should've just come clean."

"What, and risk being locked up, studied, or who knows what else?" Fitz shook his head. "No, I wouldn't let her."

Locked up? Studied?

Selena knew that Skye wanted her powers kept a secret, but she didn't know the exact reason.

She was glad that she kept it to herself. She didn't want her sister to get hurt because of what she was now.

"Oh, you wouldn't have let her." Simmons challenged.

"We could've handled her in a way that would've kept everyone safe."

And it looked like she wasn't even safe from her own team.

"It wasn't fair to us, Fitz." Bobbi added calmly, clearly trying to keep the peace. "We had a right to know."

"A right to know. What — is that the same way that Sif and the Kree had a right to know?"

"I think the situation's a little but different, mate." Hunter was clearly exasperated.

"No." Fitz insisted. "You would've done to her, exactly what they wanted to."

"You don't know that."

"Yes, I do know that! They would — you'd 'handle' her! Mack just said it! Like, uh….like Skye's something to be locked away in a cage somewhere! We should be protecting her!"

"No, Fitz! We're the ones that need protection from her!" Mack snapped.

But as soon as the words left his mouth, his eyes met Skye's. She had been standing in the doorway and she caught the last bit of their argument.

Selena dropped the trash bag and rushed over to her, alarmed that she was carrying a packed bag.

"Where are you going?" She asked. "What's wrong?"

"I need to be alone for a while…..for everyone else's safety." Skye explained. "It's okay…..it's gonna be okay."

"No!" Selena latched onto her, hoping she could convince her to stay, or at least take her along. "Where are you going? I wanna come, too!"

"Selena, you can't come with me."

"But you said we stay together!" The eleven year old insisted. "You said that's how it works now!"

"I know." This was harder than Skye thought it was going to be. And she knew it wasn't going to be easy. "I know, but things change. That was before I got these powers. They make me dangerous and until I can get a handle on them, I need to be alone."

"No!" Selena burst into tears, separation anxiety rearing its ugly head. "No! I wanna come, too!"

Bobbi and Hunter shared a sorry look and even Mack had to turn away.

This was hard to watch.

"Selena, you need to let go of me." Tears escaped Skye's eyes as much as she tried to fight them off. "It's gonna be okay."

"Stay with me? Please?" Selena was on the verge of hysterics. "Can I come, p-please?"

"It isn't safe for you to come with me." Skye kissed her forehead, before finally prying her off, ignoring the little girl's screams of protest.

Bobbi seemed to have gotten the memo and swooped in, pulling Selena back, which Skye was very grateful for. "I've got her." She assured her. "She'll be okay."

"N-No!" Selena did everything she could to get away, but Bobbi was much stronger than she was. She wasn't going anywhere.

"Look out for her, okay?" Skye asked.

"You don't have to ask." Hunter nodded.

Skye nodded before turning on her heel and stalking off, leaving everyone behind her.

"Skye." Fitz called, but it was in vain. She wasn't going to stop.

She needed to do this.

A/N: Poor Skye :( Poor Selena :( I hope you enjoyed, I don't really have an update schedule for this, but I promise, I'm not abandoning this story any time soon. The updates are just going to take longer than originally planned. But there are big things in store for Selena, I can assure you! XOXOXO
