Eda watched Luz demonstrate her abilities on the stage in front of Principal Bump, she couldn't help but think about what happened a few days earlier at the Knee. She tried to speak with Luz about it, only to be met with Luz saying she has no memory of what happened. When Eda said she used some kind of gold fire, she remembers Luz's response.
"You must've been seeing things, I can't use Gold Fire. That's the Flame of Life, only my uncle Vidal can use that."
That practically confirmed to Eda that Luz doesn't realize just how strong she actually is.
'If I ever see her mother, I'm going to talk to her about this.' Eda thought, '... And ask her on a date... I want some goddess pussy!'
Eda was knocked out of her thoughts when Luz walked up to her, smiling widely.
"Eda, did you see that!? I got a perfect score!" Luz said, happily.
Eda chuckled.
"Was there any doubt kid?" Eda asked, ruffling Luz's hair, "You're a natural! Now go hang out with your friends, there's things I have to speak to Bump about."
"Okay!" Luz said, rushing off.
Eda's grin went down as Luz ran off. Eda turned to Bump, and he paled at the serious look on her face.
With Luz, she had done the only thing that made sense to her, and made it to the Plant room, where she found Willow... and Boscha.
"Ugh, this is so boring!" Boscha said, putting her leaves on her pot.
"Well, deal with it." Willow said, making sure that she was putting the right amount of water in a plant, "This is the most important thing I've ever done."
Willow poured the water into the dirt of the plants pot, being very careful and slow, one slip up and it won't be good. She had to hope nothing goes wrong... and then Gus rushed in and made her drop the bottle into the pot.
"... That's not good, is it?" Boscha asked.
Willow picked Boscha up and stepped away. The plant grew large and more... carnivorous. Luz walked up and put her hand out, taking control of the plant. With a quick flick of her wrist, the plant snapped in half.
"Okay, what kind of plant is this and why does it act like that?" Luz asked.
"It's a type of dry plant." Willow said, "It's meant to only receive specific amounts of water. Any more than the amount it requires and it will get mad."
Willow then glared at Gus, as did Boscha... mostly because she was literally at her weakest right now. Luz just sighed and walked over to Gus.
"Okay, so what caused you to run in here?" Luz asked.
"I need your help." Gus said, "Really, really badly."
"What did you do?" Luz asked, crossing her arms.
Gus gave a sheepish laugh.
"So, I have this little club, the Human Appreciation Society, and there's this new member, he's been trying to take over it by bringing in fake human stuff."
"And I can help, how?"
"You've been around humans for so long, you know more about humans than anyone, you can help me show him up as a fraud."
"So, you want to use my knowledge of humans to benefit you... Well, call me Mallory because I'm in!" Luz said, "Go out and wait for me, I have to talk to Willow."
Gus nodded and waited outside the room. Luz turned back to Willow.
"Don't worry, Willow, as soon as school starts, we can get those tweezers and figure out how to help Amity." Luz said, before walking out of the room.
"They're going to do something stupid." Boscha said.
"I have a feeling they will. But it could probably mostly be Gus's fault." Willow said to Boscha.
"With how much he obsesses with human stuff, it will DEFINITELY be his fault." Boscha said, shaking her flower head, "Now I need some water."
With Gus and Luz, the two walked towards the HAS room, and Luz cracked some joints in preparation.
"Okay, give me the rundown of this new guy." Luz said.
"Appearance or personality?" Gus asked.
"Both." Luz said to him.
"Okay, his full name is Mattholomule. He's as tall as me, has dark brown hair, and has a literal big mouth. He transferred her from Glandus, a rival magic school, and he's in the Construction Track." Gus quickly explained.
Luz smirked a bit.
"Okay, this will be easy." Luz said, "After all, only a select few know I'm a god, and since my mother inadvertently MADE humans, who's better to judge human stuff legitimacy than me?"
Gus smiled at this before doing a little dance, jumping in victory at the end.
"Alright, let's get this done." Luz said.
Gus gladly did as he lead Luz to the H.A.S. club room, where he could hear Mattholomule "regaling" the club with his items again.
"Okay, he's inside right now with everyone." Gus said to Luz. "Ready to wow everyone?"
"You know it, Gus." Luz said, "You bring the razzle, and I'll bring the dazzle!"
With the word Dazzle, Luz swung her arm over her and flower petals were created that floated down over her.
"…That's cool but I need you to be human so…no goddess magic?" Gus asked.
"Fine." Luz said, before snapping her fingers and making the petals disappear.
Gus nodded before he reached into his back and pulled out his H.A.S. Club president crown. He placed it on and opened the door. Everyone in the club looked to him, making Mattholomule grin smugly at him.
" Augustus! Glad you could make it." He said.
"Of course I did... it would be horrible if I came without a human." Gus said.
Gus smirked as he moved aside, letting Luz enter the room with a smile on her face and her ears out for all to see.
"Greetings, H.A.S.! Nice to meetcha!" She said.
"My name is Luz and I... come from the HUMAN REALM!" Luz said.
She reached into her pockets and threw confetti in the air.
"... Do you always have confetti on you?" A member asked.
"You never know when you'll need it!" Luz said.
"…..What else do you have?" The other member asked with a smile.
"MMMM!" A third member with a giant eyeball for a head hummed with excitement.
"That's something we can worry about later." Luz said, "So, I hear I need to confirm the legitimacy of some items."
Gus sent a proud smirk at Mattholomule as the new witch gulped nervously as he eyed Luz.
'On no!' He thought as Luz was led towards his "real human items."
'Oh what the heck are these?' Luz thought, honestly just disgusted by the fakeness of them all.
One was a simple rock with a touch screen phone app drawn on the front with the label "Cellular Phone" taped to it. Another was a beige stress ball with drawn skull on it labeled "Human Skull." And the last one was a large shoe that was made of leaves, mud, and twigs labeled "Sports Footwear."
"Wow... you didn't even try." Luz said.
Luz turned to Mattholomle, who was sweating as all other eyes as the club members turned to him.
"W-What do you mean?" He asked with a stutter.
"What I mean is that you didn't even try hard to make these fake items, did you?" Luz asked before picking up the "shoe." "This is literally made of leaves and sticks from the ground. How could you think this could pass for a human item? I mean...a pigeon could see the difference!"
She shook it a bit and it fell apart in her hand, clattering on the table.
'How could I not see that?' Eileen, a girl with a giant eyeball for a head, thought in some shame as she looked away.
Luz then picked up the rock.
"... Okay, you guys have rocks here, how the hell, did you fall for this?" Luz asked.
The club members blushed from this before glaring at Mattholomule, hating how he deceived them to get into the club and try to become their new club president.
"Heheheeheh, I can explain." He said.
"It better be good." Luz said.
"I...I just moved here a-and I know I'm not the best at making friends, so I tried to make some way to help me make friends." Mattholomule said with a nervous grin.
"So you decided lying was the best way?" Luz asked.
"Exactly how do things work at Glandus?" Gus asked, genuinely curious.
"It's where you have to be strong or else you're a nobody."
"So, you thought you'd try that "might makes right" mentality here and present fake stuff instead of just being honest and curious about human culture?" Luz asked, crossing her arms.
"I-Well-You- Ugh! At least my stuff interests them! Augustus was putting everyone to sleep with what he "knows!"" Mattholomule shouted, no longer lying and just being angrily honest.
"Honestly, I'm the only one here that actually knows anything that's human related!" Luz said, "A lot of stuff there is boring, that's just a fact of life, it's not like here, you don't risk death every time you leave the house... depending on where you live."
"Hey! I know enough!" Gus said to her.
"Please! If you knew enough, why did you bring her? I beat you don't know anything about anything you have!" Mattholomule challenges Gus.
Reaching her limit, Luz slammed her fist on the table, breaking it in two.
"Enough!"
Everyone jumped from this, shocked to see just how strong Luz was for a "human."
"Are we done fighting?" Luz asked.
Y-Yes! Yes we are!" Gus said with a quick nod. "Right guys?"
"Y-Yeah!/Sure! Definitely!/MHMMM!" The HAS members said with signs of agreement.
Sometimes Gus forgets just how strong Luz actually is.
"H-How did you do that?" Mattholomule asked in surprise.
"Doesn't matter." Luz said.
"I think it does! That strength proves that you're not human!" Mattholomule shouted.
"Or I'm just really strong for my age. There are kids back in my world that can break wooden boards and even bend metal with his strong they are." Luz said.
It wasn't a lie since martial arts exist among humans. Hell, even the gods invented most of them.
"Besides, look at the ears, these are 100% human ears." Luz said.
"Sure...where's the glamour stone?" Mattholomule said as he rushed over and checked around Luz. "I know it's here somewhere!"
"HEY! Personal space!" Luz said, grabbing him and holding him back.
"I'm not falling for this lie, I'll-"
Luz pulled out a plant glyph and tapped it, wrapping Mattholomule in vines.
"That's enough out of you." Luz said to him.
"If you want, we can go dump him in the detention pit." Gus said.
"Uh, no, I don't plan on doing that." Luz said, "Now who wants to go learn more about the only human that knows magic?"
Luz pulled out a glyph and the others raised their hands. Luz led them out, while Gus... looked at Mattholomule.
(Line Break)
With Luz, she was showing the H.A.S the glyphs she has.
"And this is the Ice Glyph, I found it when I went to the Knee." Luz said, "Now don't ask what happened while I was there, because I blacked out part of the way and I'm not sure what happened."
Luz slammed the glyph on the ground and a pillar of ice rose from the ground, making the H.A.S look amazed at Luz performing magic, little did they know that she's been performing magic since the day she was created. Luz pulled out her other glyphs, when she noticed Gus walking towards them with a large smile on his face. Luz knew this meant something.
"Gus, what did you do?" Luz asked, crossing her arms.
"Nothing." Gus said.
Luz took one step towards him and he cracked.
"I threw Mattholomule into the detention pit!" Gus said.
Luz looked... pissed off.
"You did... WHAT!?" Luz yelled.
She grabbed Gus by the cowl and pulled him away.
"Of all the stupid things I've heard, you did the ONE thing I said NOT to do!" Luz said, as they went inside the school.
(Line Break)
Luz and Gus stood in front of the door, with Luz tapping her foot in annoyance.
"Okay, what can you tell me about this detention pit?" Luz asked.
"It's where all the bad students go, there's a creature that encases the bad students in cocoons until they learn or are hypnotized to behave, it's even said that some stubborn students have died in there."
"And you thought the best idea was to throw him inside this?" Luz asked, glaring at him, "Do you realize how dangerous that is!?"
"... In hindsight, it is kind of an overreaction."
"You think?" Luz asked, before grabbing the doors and opening it, "Come on, we have to save him."
"I mean, do we-"
Luz growled like a predator.
"Well, when you put it like that." Gus said, walking in.
Luz walked in and looked down, seeing multiple people inside cocoons.
"This place reminds me of that Eldrich horror that Uncle Azreal killed once." Luz said.
"Huh, I remember hearing that some ancient evil went to see and was never seen again." Gus said, "Its name was Cthulhu or something like that."
"... Of shit, THIS is where Cthulhu comes from!?" Luz said.
This seemed to waken the pit and it sent tentacles at Luz and Gus. Luz pushed Gus to the ground so he wasn't hit by it, before becoming a sugar glider and jumping into the pit. She glided around, being too small to get noticed by the pit's monster, looking for Mattholomule.
'I'm really doing this for a person I don't even like... damn it Gus, why did I agree to this!?'
Luz landed on a pod and turned into a squirrel. She started chewing through it. unfortunately this alerted the pit. It growled and sent tentacles at Luz. She climbed up the pod to avoid them and turned back.
"Gus, I could use some help!" Luz called out, "I can't get through the pods when this thing is attacking me!"
"I... uh..." Gus looked around before he got an idea, "I'll handle it!"
He made sure to memorize a log of Luz's animals, and created an army of Squirrels to distract the pit. Luz shifted back into a Squirrel and started chewing the pod again, with the other ones "attacking", AKA flying into... whatever it uses to see. Luz chewed through the pod, but it wasn't Mattholomule, it was some girl with a fishhook earring.
'Damn it.' Luz thought, before jumping to the next pod, 'Okay, here's hoping.'
Luz started chewing through another pod. Still not him, instead it was some tall boy with brown hair. Annoyed, she jumped over to the third pod and started chewing. Nope, still not him, some... dog? Okay, even Luz wasn't entirely sure what was going on with this one.
'Feel like I'm in a damn video game, of course he would be in the last one.' Luz thought as she jumped to the final pod, 'I swear if he isn't in here.'
Luz chewed through the final pod and Mattholomule fell out.
'Ugh, finally.' Luz thought.
Luz turned back to normal and used an ice glyph to launch herself back up to Gus. Luz handed the unconscious teen to Gus.
"Take him and run." Luz said.
"What? What about you?"
"I'm not leaving those other three, they don't deserve this, no one does." Luz said, "Not even people you hate. I can't even begin to imagine why you thought this was a good idea."
"He... he wanted to take my spot as president of the H.A.S." Gus said, "It's the only thing I have to makes me feel like I belong here. Being younger than everyone makes me feel like a bit of an outcast... do you know what it's like to be different than everyone else?"
"... Gus... I was made out of clay, can talk to animals, and can literally walk on the sun without being killed... outcast is kind of my middle name." Luz said, "So yeah, I do know, but there was no reason to throw him in here, we already took care of him."
"I'm sorry." Gus said.
"Hey, everyone makes mistakes." Luz said, "It's what helps you learn from them. Now it's time to make up for what you did."
Luz jumped back down into the pit, landing and becoming a Giganotosaurus. She began to bite on all the tentacles. Once they were all gone, at least for now, she turned back and helped the other students up. As she was helping the fishhook girl up, she opened her eyes a bit before they closed again.
"Don't worry, you'll be out of here in no time." Luz said.
She put several plant glyphs down and used the vines to brings the students up. Luz was about to go back up, when a tentacle grabbed her by the leg and pulled her down. She grabbed onto the ground. She was dragged and removed part of the ground, revealing a skeleton.
"Oh shit, the rumors are tru... wait, this is plastic." Luz said.
Luz was viciously pulled from the ground and began to get a cocoon wrapped around her. She looked up and saw the tentacles going towards Gus.
"No!" Luz said.
The cocoon wrapped around Luz... before the cocoon started glowing and exploded. Luz fell to the ground and looked up with white eyes. She held her hands out and fire appeared, but instead of the flame of life... this was the flame of death. A pure black fire, capable of kill anything it comes in contact with. Luz ran and slammed a flaming fist right into the center of the pit. It roared in pain, before Luz jumped up and landed on the ledge. Luz switch one hand to the flame of life, while the other one was the flame of death. She threw the gold and black fireballs down into the pit, creating a massive explosion that broke the doors down and launched the group outside of the pit. Luz's eyes returned to normal and she fell to her knees.
"Luz, that was amazing!" Gus said.
"W-w-what? What... what did I do?" Luz asked, "The... the last thing I remembered was getting trapped in that cocoon."
Principal Bump and Eda ran around the corner.
"What's going on here!?" Bump yelled.
Gus was about to explain to Bump that it was his fault, when... Luz spoke up.
"It's my fault." Luz said, "I wanted to see if I could speak to the detention pit, like I can with the lockers... I didn't mean to cause so much damage."
Bump looked at Luz, and could clearly tell she was lying, but he would admit that he liked how far she would go to protect her friend... still, if she was taking the blame, then he would have to punish her.
"If that's what you're going with, then I'm afraid you will be admitted to the Detention Track." Bump said, "Agustus, help me get these students to the healer, you should never remove someone from the pods before the school day is up, it causes problems."
Bump and Gus walked away with the students, while Eda just looked at the damage Luz caused.
'I REALLY need to know what the hell is going on with Luz.' Eda thought.
"Hey kid... good job at being a trouble maker." Eda said, punching Luz's shoulder, "Come on... let's go home."
Luz just stayed quiet the entire time... trying to figure out what happened when she blacked out.
Okay, got some things to say. First, I took my break because, well... someone tried breaking into my house and I was too jumpy and nervous to actually write. Second, my break is going to be extended, because my sister-in-law is going to go into labor at any moment between now and Monday, got to be ready to head with the family to go see her when we get the message. That's right, I'm going to be an Uncle next time you hear from me. Finally, I will do my best to get chapters out faster, but I need some help with that. I need someone to update the TVtropes page, that give me motivation and that hasn't been updated since the library chapter. Follow, Favorite, and Review for more.
