Summary: Despite being a rich celebrity, Santana is feeling lost and lonely after her wife left her. Now a single mom, she struggles when flying alone with her toddler son who has a complete meltdown mid-flight. She ends up sitting beside a ditzy, bubbly blonde who knows how to cheer them both up.
A/N: Just a heads up that there are some references to past Eltana (Santana x Elaine) at the start of this but it will be Brittana all the way in the end. Kyren is a Persian name meaning "harsh ruler," or "of royalty or nobility." The whole "royal" theme fits any Lopez-Pierce child, imo.
I started working on this many months ago and it was so amusing to me how HeMo randomly mentioned something about "Sending Santana to Germany" in an interview she did back in January. It was such a funny coincidence that I had been working on this around the exact same time and was so random of her to say haha. It made me think of Brittany finding out about Eltana in this fic and banishing Santana to Germany /joke
Santana groaned audibly, feeling a vein in her neck ticking and a lingering ache in her back as she adjusted the wailing toddler in her arm, bouncing him slightly.
She looked the part of a movie star in her black leather jacket, gold-framed aviator sunglasses, and perfectly styled waves of jet black hair while her son was dressed in a similar ensemble, including a tiny pair of shades to match with his mom.
However, inwardly she was in a constant state of stress from her job, estranged wife, and their very young son. She constantly needed to travel for her job and it was the first time she would have to handle flying on her own with a nineteen month old.
It was overwhelming even to think about.
Of course, being Santana Lopez, she could handle anything. Taking her little toddler on the plane should be a piece of cake.
Aside from his bright, golden blond curls of hair that were growing in and his golden skin that was slightly fairer than hers, her son Kyren looked almost exactly like Santana. He even had the same dimpled cheeks, small ears, and dark brown eyes that were the same shape as hers.
Despite being a celebrity with her own private jet, Santana sometimes flew commercial. The paparazzi and her fans always made a huge deal out of it when they spotted her doing so.
As Santana predicted, baby Kyren began fussing and squirming in her arms as soon as she strolled into the airport at an ungodly hour of five a.m., just at the same moment cameras began flashing and Santana groaned again, realizing some paparazzis had found her. She heard a bunch of women screaming and sure enough, her fans were already approaching as well.
She moved quickly, trying to get away but she was sure they had already got some quality shots of the baby throwing a tantrum at the top of his lungs while Santana floundered and dropped her bag, no doubt making her look like a walking human disaster.
She cringed at the thought of what her publicist would say about it all. She could just imagine the headlines about her being a terrible mom.
"Please, Baby. Just one day." Santana begged under her breath and stroked his back gently, trying to bounce him a little as the child began to sob immediately on arrival. She had very little patience for motherhood even though she was trying to be better. Let's just make it through this day.
After a few years of marriage, Santana, a famous singer, and her ex-wife, Elaine, had decided the time was right for them to try to have a baby together by reciprocal IVF. Santana made a lot of money on her own as a famous singer and was already from a rich family, so neither of them were worried about the financial aspect of having a child together.
Kyren was biologically Santana's son from her egg but Elaine had chosen to carry and give birth to him. The sperm donor Elaine chose had the fairest white skin like herself, pale blue eyes and light hair. Both of the women were happy with that arrangement and despite how complicated the process was, it didn't take long for Elaine to get pregnant.
It all worked out pretty well for them and even though Santana hadn't planned on ever being a parent when she was younger, she grew to enjoy the idea of a wife and child. She instantly felt an attachment to baby Kyren and now he was the person she loved the most.
There had been an instant attraction between herself and the woman when they met at a music festival Santana was performing at. She met Elaine Bauer, a bisexual choreographer and they slept together that same night.
The singer and dancer eventually began dating, much to the entertainment of the media who tracked the entire relationship. Santana was considered the most desirable famous lesbian, if the magazines were anything to go by.
Santana's ex-wife didn't want anything more to do with her or their baby, so she was now officially a single mom.
Santana didn't really know how to handle being a single mom, especially since Elaine had been the one to handle almost everything to do with Kyren's care while Santana was working, though she did always make a point of trying to spend time with him and reading to him.
Motherhood didn't come as naturally to Santana as it did for Elaine but Santana had assumed everything was going well at first.
Then eventually Elaine got eventually tired of dealing with Santana's angry moods, flipped out on her and announced she wanted a divorce.
Santana had been surprised and hurt by the sudden changes in her wife, who had grown cold toward the darker-haired woman. She didn't want to be divorced at first, especially after she herself had experienced the trauma of witnessing her own parents' divorce as a child but she knew that things would never be the same between them again.
There was no going back to how she and Elaine used to be. Santana was heartbroken but even she had to admit she no longer felt as strong of a spark between herself and her wife.
Elaine had gone back to work as a choreographer in Germany, where most of her extended family lived. Of course, the press was all over the divorce scandal as well. They loved nothing better than the idea of the industry's most famous lesbian couple having juicy drama.
When Santana worked long hours, it usually meant that baby Kyren had been left in the care of his grandmother, Maribel Lopez, or his nannies.
She wanted her child to have two mothers in his life. She could tell that sometimes Kyren really yearned for another mother around because he had become so accustomed to Elaine. The last thing Santana felt like doing was getting back on the dating scene after her failed relationship.
She couldn't imagine what it would be like to be back on the dating scene again. Part of her felt terrified.
Kyren kept asking his Mami Santana for "Mommy" and Santana knew exactly who he wanted but she couldn't very well tell him that his Mommy ditched the two of them because she decided that she didn't want to deal with them anymore. He didn't deserve to think one of his mothers didn't want him or love him enough.
He had been a colicky baby and Santana was so afraid of him getting sick that she doted on him. To make up for Kyren not having another mom, Santana gave him everything he wanted.
She knew he practically was becoming a spoiled little prince, almost as much as she herself had been a bratty spoiled princess as a child when her parents didn't have much time for her because of their jobs but she couldn't help it when it came to her son. He deserved the best.
Santana enjoyed nothing better than spoiling her son but unfortunately, it made situations like this all the more difficult because Kyren didn't know how to handle the slightest discomfort or disruption to his routine.
Of course, being Santana's child, he was a handful. Kyren was adorable but also loud and demanding, even in comparison to other toddlers Santana had been around - the children of her coworkers. It just so happened that Santana's son was just like her.
He felt every emotion deeply, he fussed about everything, he demanded tons of attention, and he wanted to let the entire world know about it when he felt the slightest discomfort. Since he was born premature, he had always been more needy for care.
She knew this was probably going to be disastrous. The baby had so little sleep during the previous night and she herself was cranky after getting even less than he did. Without any of her assistants around, her mother, or the nannies, Santana felt clueless.
As if on cue, little Kyren began to wail down the place as soon as Santana went through security checks. Everyone was staring at her, some of them grumbling at the annoyance of all the commotion. Others were giving her judgmental looks as if she was Satan and had kidnapped someone's baby.
By the time Santana made it out of the departure lounge and found her seat on the plane, she was practically in tears, just like the baby. She was sure their crying faces looked identical. Santana loved her son but she didn't know what to do anymore and she felt like a bad, pathetic mother. Everything was becoming a disaster.
"Oh no." Santana sighed when she got seated and Kyren instantly started up again, at full volume. At least the seat beside her was empty. She wasn't accustomed to not travelling in first class and she had always been nervous about flying. Her anxiety was going through the roof and she was struggling to keep it together as the toddler had his meltdown.
Then something strange happened that left Santana dumbfounded. Kyren fell silent, relaxing in her arms. It was the first time he had done that all day.
She noticed he was staring in the direction of the blonde woman standing beside her in the aisle who was making funny faces at him and waving to him. He squirmed in her lap and waved at the woman.
"Hi, Cupcake! You're so cute." The blonde chirped.
Santana blushed for a moment, thinking the woman was flirting with her and flipped her hair back, feeling flustered as she tried to act nonchalant. It wasn't everyday a woman this gorgeous was in her personal space flirting with her so boldly.
"Um, thanks."
"Oh, sorry I meant your little one but you're really cute too." She winked at Santana with a coy smile.
Santana cringed, feeling like a total dork and that hot feeling rose to her face again.
"Hey, I think you dropped your kitty cat."
Santana glanced up, surprised when she saw the woman holding up a familiar black cat plushie. That might have been partially why Kyren had been crying so loudly. Santana cursed herself for not noticing that he had dropped the plushie he was so attached to. Kyren squealed as soon as he saw it, immediately clinging to his cat.
"Thanks."
She noticed that the woman hadn't moved and was staring at her expectantly, her purse in hand then realized that she wanted to get around her to get to her seat, which was the window seat.
"Oh, my bad. I'm sorry." Santana whispered as she got up to make room for her, placing Kyren into his car seat that was strapped into the middle seat.
"That's totally okay."
She tried to ignore the tingle she felt when their skin brushed together as the tall, slim woman moved forward at the same time she did, getting wedged between Santana's body and the seat in front of them.
She felt butterflies when the blonde woman's curves were pressed up to the front of her body and became a little flustered, in a way she hadn't felt for ages. Santana cleared her throat and tried to ignore how the blonde's sweet perfume was distracting her.
"Oh oops!" The woman gasped, their faces close together.
Santana noticed the pink flush to her pale cheeks. Santana's lips curved into a smirk, liking the reaction she was able to invoke in the woman.
She had always had such a thing for blonde women and this woman was the most striking blonde she had ever seen.
"Sorry." Santana mumbled awkwardly again, both of them laughing as their hair tangled together. She eventually slipped into the aisle, allowing the woman to get to her seat.
Kyren for once seemed pretty content as he sat still in the middle seat in between her and the woman. Santana noticed that Kyren was unusually quiet and fascinated with the pretty woman who had joined them.
He kept watching the woman with wide brown eyes and his little lips parted. Santana had never seen him act this way with a stranger. She couldn't blame him, since the blonde was distractingly pretty.
Maybe he felt the same good vibe from this woman that Santana was already feeling. It was like a feeling of overwhelming calm and warmth came over her the second the tall blonde stepped into their presence.
"Santana Lopez, right?"
"How did you know my-" Santana froze, stopping herself and feeling like a dork because of course the woman would know. It wasn't as if Santana was in any kind of disguise and she was well-known all over America and probably most of the world. "I mean, sorry. Dumb question!"
She felt a mixture of relief and disappointment that this woman wasn't fawning all over her the way women usually did. The blonde was treating her just as normally as she would any random stranger she met on a plane.
"Ooo I have all your albums and your movies."
"Oh you do, huh?" Santana felt smug but she noticed that the girl wasn't completely fangirling over her. She just told her this in a completely casual way in that cute, soft little monotone voice of hers, like if she was talking about the sky being blue or something she had for dinner the night before.
Santana would normally have flirted up a storm but she felt out of her element in this situation with her toddler climbing all over her.
"I'm Brittany, by the way. Brittany S. Pierce. Kinda like Britney Spears but not."
Oh. Her name was cute too and it fit her somehow. Her last name was fitting for those piercing baby blue cat eyes of hers.
Brittany flashed her a perfect smile as she said this and fluttered her long eyelashes. Santana's mind went blank, unable to focus on anything except those long waves of fair hair, freckles, and clear, upturned eyes.
"Mommy! My mommy!" Kyren piped up, surprising Santana. She thought he was calling to her, although he usually hadn't said "Mommy" to anyone except her ex-wife. He wasn't looking at the dark-haired woman but had turned to face Brittany and was reaching for her, entranced. The blonde was still making funny faces and waving at him.
"I don't remember having you," Brittany said jokingly. "It's alright. This happens to me all the time," She joked again, smiling warmly at Kyren. "He's really adorable."
"Mommy!" The toddler whined again, still trying to grab Brittany with his tiny hands. It was so cute that Santana couldn't help but smile but then she realized how embarrassing it was that her child was acting this way and tensed up. She tried in vain to pull Kyren back but he kept squirming and ignoring her.
"Sorry, I don't mean to make you feel uncomfortable."
Brittany shook her head.
"Oh no, like I said, it's all good. I really don't mind."
Santana breathed a sigh of relief. She didn't know how Brittany could be so patient and tolerant but she felt relieved that at least the kind blonde wasn't getting mad. It made what could have been an awkward situation much easier.
Brittany kept humming and singing songs to herself with her earbuds in. She was so cheerful and bubbly in spite of them being delayed for an hour.
Santana didn't know how she managed to be so uplifted in situations like these. She just hoped Brittany wasn't one of those perpetually energetic, sappy types who were annoyingly positive. Especially at this time of the morning.
Santana attempted to glare at the blonde but Brittany didn't seem to notice. She only danced in her seat as Santana stared at her in confusion.
"This is so exciting. I can't wait to get to England." The blonde hummed, taking her earbuds out.
Santana was frustrated, tired, hungry, and going through a lot. It didn't help that Kyren was starting to squirm again and pull at her shirt while some kid sitting behind them kicked the back of Santana's chair.
She wrinkled her nose in disgust when some loud guy sneezed. She couldn't help but think of the long flight from L.A. to London and lash out, though she could barely bring herself to be as harsh to Brittany as she usually was to anyone she wanted to sass.
"Yeah, exciting alright," She scoffed, her voice coming out in a low growl as she clutched at the armrests. "Being stuck in this damn cattle car for another million hours with all of these germs."
"Are you nervous about flying?" Brittany whispered, noticing how her arms were trembling slightly. Santana felt embarrassed. The Latina felt like her face had probably gone white too, which made it all the more humiliating.
"Oh - no way. Me? Scared of flying? Nope."
"It's okay. I used to get scared at first."
"I'm not."
"Right, of course not. I didn't mean it as a judgment. You're really cool."
Santana felt anything but cool after Brittany had discovered her phobia. However, her compliment did help to soothe the blow to her ego. She wanted to be annoyed at her but they were going to be stuck together for the next eleven hours or so. Santana figured that it couldn't hurt for her to get to know more about the woman. It had been a while since she met a woman who was completely "ordinary" and not famous. At least Brittany didn't seem to be judging her or laughing at her for her fear.
Unfortunately the relaxed feeling didn't last for long because Kyren began to cry as soon as the plane began to pick up speed and then take off.
Santana winced, knowing it was because of pressure changes making his ears hurt. Even after they were in the air for ten minutes or so he was practically screaming down the plane.
Everyone was staring in their direction. She could hear whispers about how Santana Lopez was on the flight and apparently she was failing at being a mom again.
Santana had no idea what to do with this child and her eyes started to well up with unshed tears. She didn't even care that she was crying in public at this point. Kyren's face was bright red. She was so embarrassed by how people were looking at her and ashamed of not being a good enough mom to calm him down.
She felt a hand on her shoulder and looked up to see Brittany watching her with concern.
"Hey, do you mind if I hold him for a little while for you? Is that okay?"
It was the last thing Santana was expecting and she didn't know what to say.
"I'm sorry." Santana winced, knowing that the blonde was sitting right beside her son and his wailing at full volume was probably irritating to the blonde, or at least making her uncomfortable. She was apologizing to Brittany for what felt like the millionth time.
"No need to say sorry. I don't mind holding him for a little while."
Santana eventually nodded gratefully and allowed Brittany to cradle the wailing Kyren in her arms. The Latina didn't know what else to do. The blonde bounced him gently, shifting him in her arms.
He was still sniffling and whimpering but his little sounds became quieter as Brittany held him and talked to him. She had never seen him relax so easily for someone other than his mothers and he clung to Brittany tightly the entire time. All Brittany was doing was whispering to him sweetly and rubbing his back but that seemed to be enough to calm him down.
"I don't even know what to say. Thank you so much." Santana breathed a sigh of relief as everyone else in the plane finally stopped staring at them. She could almost cry because of how much relief she felt.
"I've never seen him be so affectionate with anyone before." Santana told her with a grin.
"Oh, I just remembered. I have something in my bag he might like."
Brittany slipped out into the aisle to get to the overheard compartment, returning with a drawing book and crayons. Kyren was very happy about this and loved it when she taught him how to hold the crayons.
They were too small for him but she helped him hold them and colour on some extra paper she brought with her. Santana had no idea why Brittany would have all this stuff with her but she seemed to have a childish innocence to her.
"You're so natural at this." Santana complimented, in awe of Brittany's ability to talk to Kyren. She cursed herself for not thinking to bring any toys with her other than his cat plushie.
"I like kids. They're honest," Brittany shrugged. "This one's a little angel."
Santana scoffed.
"He looks all cute right now but you should see him when he's all fussy and mad at me."
"Aww I don't believe he's anything other than an adorable little kitten. Aren't you?"
She noticed that Kyren was squirming and still tensed up, refusing to sleep again just when Santana was hoping he would nap for a little longer.
He relaxed a little when Brittany stroked his back rhythmically, giving it a few thumps. Eventually, Brittany suggested that he might be hungry and Santana brought out some snacks for him.
He was way more interested in the cakes and cookies Brittany was eating. The blonde eventually giggled and shared some with him, when Santana gave her permission.
Apparently this woman had an endless supply of cupcakes, candy, and marshmallow fluff sandwiches with her. Santana raised an eyebrow, confused by the quirky woman but since Brittany and Kyren seemed happy now, that was all that mattered.
"I think his tummy was hurting but he looks happier now." Brittany explained.
Santana had never felt so grateful to another human in her life. It was as if the universe had sent this angel to her. She even took one of the cupcakes Brittany handed to her. She wasn't one for sweets but it was really amazing.
She was amazed at how good Brittany was at soothing the toddler.
"Have you done this before?" Brittany asked and Santana quickly caught on to what she meant - the whole flying internationally with a toddler thing.
"Oh yeah, tons of times. Actually never. Is it that obvious?"
Brittany just smiled at her in that gentle, calm way of hers.
"You're doing really well for your first time."
Santana couldn't stop thinking about Brittany, even when she told herself it was weird or wrong for her to have such strong feelings already toward a woman she barely knew.
Her first thought was how much this woman reminded her of Elaine, physically at least. They were around the same height if she had to guess and had a similar, slim and athletic but curvy build…
Yet Brittany was far more gorgeous than Santana's ex-wife. Elaine was practically plain in comparison. Santana's eyes lingered on the woman's tiny waist and long dancer's legs.
They both had very pale skin and bright blue eyes. However, while Elaine's hair was auburn, this woman had long, beachy blonde waves of hair. Her eyes were upturned, striking and feline in a way Santana had never seen before.
She was totally Santana's type and it felt as if those laser eyes of pale blue seemed to look right through her.
As if on cue, Kyren began to whimper for Brittany again.
"Mommy!"
They both laughed but Santana felt a little concerned at how confused and clingy he was becoming with Brittany. He was becoming so attached to Brittany that whenever she so much as got up to go to the bathroom and he couldn't see her, he would freak out.
"Aw, I'm back." Brittany cooed, poking his chest softly when she returned to her seat.
"He might be getting confused because you look a little like my ex-wife, his mother. She carried him and she was really close to him. He's really too young to be without his other mom and I think he misses her a lot."
Since she wasn't his birth mother and hadn't been around him as much when he was a baby, it had been a little more difficult for Santana to bond with Kyren in this very early stage of his life.
Brittany must have noticed how quiet and pensive Santana had become.
"Are you okay?"
"I just feel like a terrible mom sometimes. I don't get enough time to spend with him." Santana lamented. She didn't know why she was pouring her heart out to a virtual stranger she had only known for five hours or so but Brittany had this way of making her want to open up to her.
"I totally know what that's like. I mean having so little time. Being a dancer is kind of similar but I'm sure your life is way more hectic."
"You're a professional dancer?" Santana was awestruck and even more turned on than she already had been by Brittany when she heard this.
She couldn't help but think back to her ex-wife. Even when she tried dating other women after Elaine, she'd always been drawn to tall, femme dancers and choreographers with great legs, long hair, and pretty blue eyes.
"Yep. I've loved dancing all my life. Mom says it started in the womb practically. It's the thing that makes sense to me the most."
"That's really cool." Santana said but then frowned. Brittany noticed her change in mood.
"What happened? You looked all excited but then now you seem so sad?"
"Sorry. It's just that… My ex-wife was a dancer."
"Oh," Brittany responded in a softer tone. "Right. I forgot… I'm sorry."
Of course Brittany probably knew about the devastating fallout between Elaine and Santana. It had been all over the news. Many people took Elaine's side and thought Santana must have been an abusive partner or cheated on the other woman, which was hurtful to read in online comments. It was totally untrue.
At least Brittany didn't seem to be assuming the worst of Santana based on what the tabloids and gossip forums said.
"It's alright. I guess some things aren't meant to be."
"I hope you find the woman who is meant to be," Brittany smiled. "For what it's worth, I think you're doing an amazing job as a mom."
Little did she know Santana was starting to have silly fantasies that the girl right beside her was that soulmate she had always been looking for. She felt ridiculous for thinking this, since she and Brittany had only known each other for a couple of hours but she felt such a spark between them.
The hours seem to pass by quickly when Brittany was around. She barely even remembered her nerves about flying.
Santana was really curious about Brittany's marriage status or whether she was dating anyone but she didn't know how to ask in a polite way without scaring the blonde off. She noticed with satisfaction that there didn't seem to be any ring on her finger. She was also curious about whether the blonde had children of her own.
As if reading her mind, Brittany spoke up.
"I've never had any babies of my own but he's so adorable, he makes me want one even more than I already do. The old biological clock is ticking, as my mother would say."
"Would your… husband be open to that?" Santana asked carefully, wondering if she was prying too much.
Then the thought hit her… this woman was probably straight. She had to be definitely straight. With Santana's luck, there was no way she wouldn't be. She felt like a fool for thinking Brittany was so hot and being devastated at the thought that she might be married to someone else.
"I've never been married," Brittany fluttered her eyelashes. "Totally single."
"No way. You?"
"I can't wait to get married to the perfect guy or girl one day."
Santana gasped, blinking at her.
"You're… ?"
Santana gave her a look that made it obvious what she was trying to say without saying and Brittany giggled.
"I'm bisexual."
"Oh."
Santana didn't know what to say but internally her heart was pounding and she was elated that she might actually have a chance with this really hot girl. She felt like doing cartwheels and tried to hold back her grin.
Brittany kept giggling and whispering something to the giddy toddler who cackled. Santana eventually turned to them with a smirk, tilting her head to the side curiously. She loved seeing her son in such a good mood.
Kyren kept turning to Brittany and pointing or asking for things as if she was his other mom. Santana didn't know how to feel about that but the more she saw her bond with her son the more her attraction to the woman grew.
"What is it?" Santana asked when Brittany began looking at her weirdly with her head tilted to the side.
"It's just really cute how he keeps looking at me. He has your face and your eyes. You guys even smile and scowl the exact same way."
"Oh. Thanks." Santana grinned. People always compared her with her son, so it wasn't surprising but it felt different coming from Brittany. The way Brittany was looking at them with such fondness made Santana feel those butterflies in her stomach yet again.
Everyone had fallen asleep around them around an hour later but Santana was still wide awake in the dim light. She had finally got Kyren to sleep again with a red fluffy blanket Brittany had lent him wrapped around him but she couldn't stop thinking about the little electric spark she felt whenever Brittany so much as touched her or their eyes met.
Santana trembled, feeling sparks fly again when Brittany lay her head against her shoulder and then snuggled closer. Santana looked over, realizing that the blonde probably hadn't realized what she was doing in her sleep.
She eventually got up to change Kyren when he woke up squirming. The bathrooms were so small and cramped that it was a pain trying to get anything done and Santana was cranky.
She had to walk up and down the aisle a few times with him to try to calm him down again when he began to squeal after that, refusing to be put down. He finally was half dozed off in her arm. She wasn't expecting to see Brittany standing there by the bathroom.
Before she could think about what she was doing, she grabbed the blonde with her free arm and pulled her in with them. All she could think about was her attraction to the blonde and the way the blonde kept leaning up close to her frame with those flirty eyes. She couldn't be imagining these sparks between her. It wasn't exactly easy to show Brittany how she felt with barely any privacy and this wasn't ideal but it would have to do.
She closed the door, and pressed Brittany up against it, kissing her on an impulse. Brittany whimpered, kissing her back to her surprise and what started as a soft press of the lips deepened. She didn't push Santana away at all, even if she seemed surprised at first.
She didn't know why she did it and they couldn't exactly go further than that with a half-asleep baby in her other arm but she couldn't resist the attraction she felt toward Brittany. She had never felt this strongly toward anyone before, even her ex-wife.
They both were trying to be quiet but Santana could feel Brittany pressing closer and she did the same. She didn't know if she'd ever see Brittany again after this. If this one stolen kiss was all they could have together, for now she would take it.
Santana eventually pulled back from the surprisingly passionate kiss, feeling her face heat up. She was no stranger to the mile high club with quite a few ladies and if the situation was different she'd love to have been there with Brittany but she hadn't expected to be making out with a hot blonde on this flight. She really wasn't complaining.
"That was nice." Brittany murmured dreamily.
The toddler in her arms began to squirm again as the plane hit some turbulence, reminding Santana of the situation and the fact that they were locked into a plane bathroom. She cleared her throat awkwardly.
"Um, we better go back."
"Yeah." Brittany breathed.
At least almost everyone was asleep and she doubted anyone caught them leaving the bathroom together. Brittany let Kyren have her window seat, allowing Santana to take the middle seat, and laying beside Santana with her head pressed up against her shoulder. Brittany turned to her, pulling her blanket over both of their heads.
"One more thing."
"What is it?" Santana's heart was racing in the darkness.
Instead of answering, Brittany grabbed the back of her neck and pulled her close to kiss her lips. Santana was so lost in the kiss that she didn't want it to end, feeling disappointed when they had to separate eventually. Brittany didn't seem to want to let her go.
"Believe me, I'd like to do way more with you, Babe but I think we'd get arrested." Santana joked. Brittany laughed, snuggling into her side.
"He really is your twin." Brittany laughed when Santana and Kyren were bickering when they woke up again, both wearing identical scowls as she tried to get the toddler to stop squirming and eat something.
"Everyone says he totally inherited my sass and troublemaker side."
"You know what else? He's sweet and adorable like you."
Santana wanted to kiss her so badly and she could tell Brittany felt the same but Kyren was currently clinging to her neck tightly and climbing all over her.
The pilot announced that they were beginning their descent soon. Santana began to feel depressed at the thought that she might never see Brittany again. When they landed a wave of sadness hit Santana as everyone began to grab their bags, preparing to disembark.
"I really like you, I just…"
Brittany was just so charming, soft, and nurturing. Santana really, really liked this woman and Kyren clearly liked her too but Santana didn't want to let herself get hurt again by allowing herself to fall in love.
Should she let Brittany in after Elaine had hurt her so badly before? Would it be fair to Kyren? She didn't know if it was fair to him for her to be around a woman he was totally attached to and thought of as another mom just to potentially get abandoned again.
Brittany interrupted her train of thought by kissing her cheek and watching her with those sparkling, honest blue eyes when she pulled back.
"Can I see you again?" Santana cursed herself for sounding so eager. She didn't want to seem desperate and awkward. "I'd love to take you out for dinner. Or sightseeing... anything."
"You're asking me out?"
"Yes."
"See? It's okay if you're into me. The world didn't end." Brittany whispered teasingly, wrapping her arms around her shoulders and Santana gave her a proper kiss.
It wasn't long before the celebrity and dancer were dating and Kyren finally had another "mom" around again to make everything better.
