Once in a blue moon, Reaper, otherwise known as Gabriel Reyes, would get a decent night's sleep. The late night sleeps back in Talon, always kept him up with tons of paperwork and the back-to-back missions just made him so worked to death. So he was glad that for once, he got comfortable and went to sleep instantly once he hit the hay.
His blissful beautiful sleep did not last long as it was interrupted by a couple of knocks outside his temporary dorm door.
Reaper didn't want to get up to answer it. He was not surprised by any last-minute things that came rushing to him back in Talon, whether early in the morning or late in the night. But in this case, he wanted to sleep throughout the day.
However, the knocking did not fade away, so he reluctantly got onto his feet, faded into a black mist and remerged as a sole being in front of the doorway.
When he opened the metallic sliding door, a familiar yet annoying voice called out. He immediately regretted it. He wanted to shut the door and crawl back to his bed.
"Hey Gabe, good morning."
The sounds of Talon's, well ex-Talon's at this point, hacker and tech genius, Sombra was already irritating as it is, but having to greet and meet her the first thing in the morning after waking him up after a failed rescue and recovery mission was the very last thing that Reaper needed.
"What do you want?" The maskless assailant groaned, turning away from her and walking towards the window that was facing the strait of Gibraltar. Only a few trusted people saw him without the mask and the last thing he wants is the whole base to see him as he is.
"Well, Gabe, just wanted to check on you after the whole mission went bust." Sombra's cheery tone continued. "Also, last I checked, you have like 100 plus missed calls from you know who."
That statement froze Reaper in place. It was obvious that he knew that 'you know who' that Sombra was referring to.
His wife.
Reaper then shook his head. It
shouldn't surprise him that his wife would do anything to get him back, ever since the identity leaked on the news.
Sombra just gave a chuckle, continuing her little discovery.
"And her email was full of unsent emails that specifically mentioned you. It seems that she was technically sending emails to me since it also had my name in it, but I think she knew I would read it."
After Reaper, Soldier and Ana's identity got leaked out, this Eye organisation spent the next few hours leaking more top-secret information from various organisations around the world. It should then not surprise him that Talon's other valuable data got out. After all, they did attack their main headquarters.
In one of their many announcements that interrupted television across all network stations, more of Talon's operator's information got out. Sombra, also known as, Olivia Colomar, was one of these agents. Now being chased around the world due to her expert hacking abilities and her multiple attacks and theft of top secret data on many organisations.
Her skills as a hacker have somewhat tweaked her personality to bypass locks and solve mysteries. This skill has made Sombra a bit of a nosey person, barging into people's businesses and interrupting their daily lives.
And unfortunately, he was her victim for the day.
"Don't bother her, Sombra. Leave her alone." He instructed her. "The last thing I want is her and my family's faces all over the world.."
The young hacker, for once, actually gave a genuine look of concern. "So you're not answering her? At all?"
"Not until this is all over, then maybe."
Sombra just clicked her tongue. "Man, you're like Jack, you know. His partner called him, but he refused to answer him."
"That's his problem."
Sombra gave out an exasperated sigh. She knew this was going nowhere.
"Just, looking out for you and all of us you know." She rubbed her arm, feeling a bit glum. The newly-form peacekeeping team, secretly called Overwatch 2, was a team full of former Overwatch agents, ex-Talon operatives, junkers, scientists and more. But there was one thing that was uniting all of these unique individuals together was of
the same thing.
The Eye.
Whatever the Eye did not only affected organisations and businesses around the world but also the livelihood and peace of the people. Blood, sweat and tears that they put into their careers and their normal life. All of it was gone in a matter of days.
It was then that Sombra realised that, this wasn't just about her anymore. Days of fooling around other people's personal lives are over. She, like so many others, was now being targeted by this anonymous group.
Reaper sagged his shoulders a bit. He felt a bit of guilt as well as a ping of sadness. Sombra at a young age, had no one growing up, being that she was an orphan during the First Onmic Crisis. Irritating as she was, Sombra slowly grew on him over time, despite her flaws and her on-off mysterious work behind her back.
"Don't need to look out for me. You just need to look out for yourself." Reaper kept his edgy posture towards the window.
"And besides," Reaper turned to face Sombra. "I'm pretty sure that I'm not your only victim today."
Sombra then cracked a smile.
"Actually, your right. I hacked into Brigitte's folder again and saw more of her god-awful poems. Then there was Tracer's phone, her passcode was so easy. Who puts 01010100 as their passcode? Just 1 and 0 are so easy to guess."
Reaper felt better as Sombra ranted about her hacking activities. He left the window and approached Sombra who was still standing at the doorway.
"Alright. That's enough from you."
"Aw come on! I got something on Cassidy!"
Reaper didn't say anything as he pressed on the panel right next to the door, shutting itself in front of Sombra's face.
"Alright! I'll see you at breakfast." Sombra's voice faded as she left.
Reaper went into the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. He stared at his reflection, then slowly reached to his face. His face was scarred and badly damaged during his confrontation in Overwatch Headquarters back in Switzerland.
He barely forgot about what went down that day, but it all went down fast the moment the explosion went off.
Then his memories jogged up, recalling the blurry vision of him being strapped onto a stretcher, surrounded by Talon agents.
He could remember the experiments tested on him. Drugs, medicine and whatever was put into him. It was cold and awful, but on the upside, has made him more powerful and deadly than before, making him useful as Doomfist's lieutenants.
He had been proposed many times before in life.
To fight for the better of humanity.
Then to terrorist the world.
But now?
That is when he realises.
He was free.
Free to do whatever he wants. Go wherever he so chooses. No need to fight anymore. He could leave if he wanted to.
But then, Sombra's words came into mind about his wife.
He could go back to her. They could be a happy family again.
He blinked again, snapping out of this daydream.
If he went back to them, he would still be hunted down by The Eye.
Worst-case scenario. He watches his loved ones being killed, then followed by himself.
No.
He wouldn't want that.
Turning off the toilet lights, he left the bathroom, having splashed his face with cold water to wake himself up for a bit.
He went to his nightstand to take his mask. He fitted onto his face before making his way out to get his morning meal.
Even before he stepped foot into the mess hall, Reaper knew that things weren't going to be the same as in the golden days of Overwatch.
He could hear the ruckus that was coming from there. Shouting, screaming and the sounds of laughter echoed throughout the halls.
When he entered, the noise got even louder as it hit him like a freight train. The mess hall was not the biggest that Overwatch had but was big enough to fit the taskforce.
On the right, he could see Reinhardt and his short Swedish buddy, Trobjorn, laughing and enjoying their morning breakfast while sharing stories of their adventures in Overwatch.
Right next to them was the floating onmic monk, Zenyatta and his pupil and former Overwatch and Blackwatch agent, Genji. Zenyatta was carrying out peaceful talks with the hard light constructor, Symmetra. It was a shame that her company went down under in the last couple of days, but from the way their conversation is going, Symmetra is doing
well. Genij and his brother, Hanzo, were enjoying a warm cup of tea.
Reaper thinks it is the first time that he sees that the cyborg-human hybrid is actually at peace for once.
Then there were the Junkers. To be honest, he had no idea why they were there Reaper thinks that they were involved for the sake of protection from the United Nations from the millions of bounty hunters that are after both Junkrat and Roadhog. The big, menacing, yet quiet 'bodyguard' - that was what Junkrat called him from time to time - Roadhog, didn't seem to mind what Junkrat did, though he was kind of fed up with his
shenanigans.
Then there was the group of scientists that were huddled up together. Winston and Mei were discussing various calculations and formulas with his former colleague in Talon, Sigma over their cups of coffee. Even though his mind was always changing moods, he would always stay focused on a certain topic until someone pulls him away from it. And there on top of his mech, Wrecking Ball, was Hammond, the genetically modified hamster, nibbling away his small stack of crackers. Little interaction went on between him and Reaper, but they both worked well and got along fine.
Next, he saw Sojourn and Jack having a small chat with their breakfast. Reaper always felt that the commanding position of Overwatch should have been given to her, considering her past history with the Canadian Special Forces. Both Jack and him were soldiers, always following orders from the higher-ups. But for Sojourn, he felt that she was a natural leader compared to Jack, in his opinion. That was something that he would never mention to Jack.
The unmasked vigilante then saw Reaper walking past, giving him a small wave. Sojourn then turned and saw him, giving him a small smile.
Reaper didn't wave but nodded his head upwards in acknowledgement towards them.
Then came the doctors, as he would like to call them, healers. Mercy and Moira don't really get along well regarding the fields of bio-science technology. Mercy doesn't really approve of Moira's experimental methods of conducting her work. Moira always states that her work will be groundbreaking, but needs to break rules on what is humane and moral. As much as Reaper would like to thank Moira for being alive
and giving him extraordinary abilities, he really disapproves of Moira's work. But she would always have her work done at the end of the day.
Then sitting in the quieter area of the mess hall were the former head and his ex-boss Doomfist, who was sitting across from Ana. Reaper was genuinely surprised that Doomfist got accustomed to life on the base. He did not cause any trouble, compared to the junkers, and he went
along with what the task force was doing in terms of missions. Reaper thought he would have turned this team into operative killers and base into the next Talon Headquarters. Reaper shuddered at that thought. He really didn't like to have the base raided for the second time by The Eye. But he has been following orders around, so he's on the good books for now.
Widowmaker was sitting alone in the far corner of the mess hall. The blue-skinned woman propped her legs up onto the seat, enjoying her glass of wine silently. Reaper knew she liked working alone, with no one to disturb her. Other than that, nothing much about her. She does her work fast and swiftly with dead accurate precision. In part thanks to the
rigorous experiments and tests Talon put on her. Another reason onto Reaper hated Talon's experimental division.
Next, there were the onmics, Bastion and Orisa, sitting right next to the wall of the canteen. The E54 and OR-15 onmics were both turned off from the looks of it. Their visor was devoid of any signs of life or in robot language, any function. The reason why Bastion was here was because of Torbjorn. He's essentially part of them now, so it's kind of obvious. But for Orisa, this was personal. Her creator, Efi, lost her cousin, Bisi, because of The Eye. The organisation knew his profile thanks to his previous connections to Talon, so they considered him a threat to their uprising. Efi and her family were very distraught at this, but considering that The Eye only went after Bisi and not Numbani, Orisa was instructed to leave
Numbani and help with the task force to bring The Eye to justice.
Then came the much younger heroes, or as he would like to call them, children, because of their rowdy and immature behaviour during and outside of battle. As it so happens, most of the noise happens to be coming from them. , Lucio, Tracer and Brigitte were all sitting under 's mech, Tokki, which was projecting a 4-way split screen that the four of them were playing and sitting on the sidelines were Pharah and
Baptiste. All were cheering and laughing at the video game as they were all competing to win. Reaper sighed quietly. At least they were in high spirits when the world was about to go down with the Eye.
Then came the people who he was looking for.
"Ah! You finally made it." Sombra looked up and saw him approaching their table."You're just in time to see your former apprentice lose to the cowgirl."
Reaper finally reached the table and saw what was happening.
His former apprentice, Cassidy, was playing cards with his former partner-in-crime, Ashe and her butler-turned-bodyguard onmic, Bob. He could see the smirk hidden away from the outlaw while Cassidy was pulling at least five different faces at which cards he should place. Sombra was just sitting nearby, scrolling and swiping on the many holographic screens in front of her. But every once in a while, she would inspect the gameplay between both of them, rolling her eyes and smirking at the cowboy's struggles. At least the cowboy had someone who cared. Right next to
him, the adaptive robot AI, Echo was watching how the game was being played. She would watch each card being moved between the two of them, already learning how to play cards. She watched on as Ashe placed another set of cards in front of her, earning a satisfied groan from Cassidy.
Reaper just scoffed at the cowboy. "You disappoint me, you know."
"Hey look, I'm a bit rusty playing this. Come on, give me a chance."
"You already had five chances to win, amigo." Sombra didn't take her eyes off her holographic screens.
"Actually, make that six. If you had used that card instead, you might have won." Echo pointed to the middle card that was in Cassidy's hand.
And with that, Ashe placed her final set of cards in front of her. "Royal Flush. And that's what you call a game, sweetheart."
Cassidy placed his cards on the table, leaned back and let out a big sigh.
"Fine. You win. Happy?" Cassidy asked, tired of his losing streak. "What do you want me to do? Be Bob for the whole week?"
Bob was taken aback. He just looked at Cassidy, then at Ashe without uttering a word.
"Relax Bob. Even Cassidy is not great at replacing you." Bob placed a hand on his chest, relieved.
As both of them were having a squabble, Reaper sat down in front of the dish that Sombra had gotten for him. He looked at the food that was served. It didn't look that bad as far as mess hall food went unless it was cooked by any one of the Junkers.
As he dug in, Sombra was back in her own world, watching multiple CCTV cameras. Ever since these individuals escaped from them, Sombra spared no time to track them down. Asking her fellow team members ranging from how they looked like to what vehicle they drove, the hacker was determined to find out who they were.
The easy part was the vehicle they were driving in. An old blacked-out Jeep Cherokee had been spotted a couple of times in the CCTVs that were still operational in the town. It was seen speeding out of
town and was also spotted on the autobahn highway hours later after their escape.
Then came the hard part, the individuals. From what she had gotten from the team, she was able to piece together the description of these two wannabe heroes. And after hours of searching, she found them. CCTV footage from a gas station along the autobahn showed that the girl of the two entered and bought food. She got a good look at the face and did more digging.
That was when she hit a dead end.
The problem was that her face did not exist or match anywhere on any databases around the world that housed personal data.
So, like Sombra, this girl was also a ghost.
And if she is a ghost, her partner is most likely as well.
The only clue she has from the CCTV's gas station was that they used Euro currency, compared to the coins most people use today.
Reaper watched as her eyes moved from screen to screen, completely enveloped in her work. And even though she got him breakfast, she barely touched hers.
He wasn't to say he wasn't concerned. Sombra would sometimes do this in front of him, often bragging about how she would hack this and how she would infiltrate that, but so far, he had never ever seen her this quiet and so concentrated.
He was about to ask her when a voice overcame the entire mess hall.
"Hello everybody! Can I have your attention, please? Do gather in front of me. It's about our briefing regarding our potential next mission." Winston called out from the top of one of the cafeteria tables. Everyone stopped what they were doing and headed their way towards the highly intelligent gorilla.
Reaper's table didn't really need to move, as their table was just right next to Winston's, so they got front-row seats to his briefing.
Once everyone had settled in front of him, Winston began his briefing.
"Thank you all for your efforts in the last mission. If you are new here, welcome to the 'Overwatch 2' taskforce. Not really a name, but let's just go at what we have. Anyway, if you're here because of recent events and want to take down this organisation The Eye, I, on behalf of the leader of this taskforce, would like to thank you for helping us in these dire times."
Winston cleared his throat and began again.
"I am sorry to hear that The Eye has affected the way of life for some of you." He looked towards so of the folks in his midst. He really did feel sympathy for them. Ashe and Bob were in a crime group called the Deadlock Rebels. Her whole life's work with the gang came to an immediate end after The Eye erased the gang from existence. Only she and Bob were able to escape. Symmetra was here too, thanks to the The
Eye. After an incident that killed all of the Executive Officers, her company, Vishkar Corporation was in total disarray. The Eye then attacked the corporation with no warning, taking it down under, as the reason, it claimed that the company was financing their own needs by robbing those less fortunate than others. With nowhere else to go, Symmetra ended up here. Then there were those that Winston
also had sympathy for, but not to an extent.
First, there were the Junkers. Those two were very chaotic and destructive to those around them. They were here because the Eye has been targeting the duo for a while due to their environmentally unfriendly nature. Truth be told, he had no idea what they would have done to anger this newly formed terrorist group and frankly, he didn't want to find out.
Lastly, there were the Talon agents, and Overwatch's archnemesis back in the day. Of all the people who would join this peacekeeping taskforce, he didn't expect the now-defunct terrorist group's operatives to be joining this small taskforce, let alone their leader. At first, Winston was against them joining the taskforce. This private military was known for its disorder and terror acts against the world and its people. This, coupled with their long-standing history with Overwatch, was enough to say declined them. However, given the fact that Talon was just taken down by the Eye, and with their ex-operatives and leader somehow willing to fight alongside even with ex-Overwatch agents against the new onmic terrorist group, Winston had no choice but to let them in. After all, their small task force group may not be big enough to take down the Eye.
"But I'm sure we can put our differences aside and we will end this threat once and for all. For now, we have our review of our last mission."
Behind him, a big holographic projection showed a top-down view of the base where they recently carried out their last mission.
"Let's recount the events. A few days ago, we were assigned to extract some army personnel who were based in the Hennie, the Netherlands, not too far from the Frisian Islands. The base was being pinned down with many onmics that were formally from Null Sector, with them now being branded as The Eye. When we arrived, we were met with resistance
from the group, but nonetheless, we pushed through into the building that
housed the remaining army personnel. Our team was split between Reaper's group and Sojourn's. Reaper's went down to help extract the men and women inside while Sojourn's group handled the forces outside."
Arrows and dots moved about as it showed their movement at the base as well as within the building. Winston's artificial companion, Athena, then came into the picture.
"Reaper's forces pushed into the building with surprisingly no counterattack from the enemy. When they arrived in the basement, they found the base's commander, General Niccle Alldic, holding off the invading force with his remaining men and women. However, it came to
our attention that two individuals came in before Reaper's group did. Whoever these two are, they helped tackle the onmics. But left the building with a potentially deadly weapon."
Athena continued, now showing the escape route the two have taken on the projection.
"Reaper's group didn't encounter the two as they have left via the emergency staircase. And when they got to the top, they somehow managed to procure an escape vehicle." A projection showed footage of an old-fashioned blackout Jeep SUV. The only stands out about this vehicle is that it uses traditional wheels compared to hover rims that most cars have now."
"This is the car that was used for their escape. They had managed to run into some of you, who were in Sojourn's group on the surface, but somehow slipped from our grasp as the onmic army was sending reinforcements. With their number growing and our window of escaping
the base with the army personnel, we had no choice but to leave."
"Winston?" Winston's best friend, Tracer called out. "Why would they take this weapon again? And why is it important?"
"This important weapon, as the scientists and I have learnt from the general, was a prototype analogue bomb which can deliver an electronic magnetic pulse, but on a big scale. The theory was that bombs were capable of destroying targets, but were also damaging to infrastructure and people around it. So rather than packing more firepower, they had it fitted with a heavily modified EMP device which can be used to shut down the onmics and their machinery and deliver its pulse explosively or
implosively."
"Well, ain't that a good thing for us?" Tracer asked, then realised that she was surrounded by both humans and onmics. "Um, no offence to the onmics of course."
"But at the end of the day, it still is a bomb. It is designed to be extensively modified to fit various payload capacities. Regardless of what the payload is, and from what I have gathered and spoken with Mei, Sigma and Hammond, the device can detonate a radius of nearly 100km."
Murmurs and whispers started amongst the small taskforce.
"And that's only without a payload. What's worse is that mentioned
before, this prototype bomb is an analogue, which means it needs to be activated physically. And from the design, it was built to go off in a five-second countdown. Not a problem for The Eye, but a problem for anyone else trying to deactivate the bomb."
"What about these people who got away with the bomb?" It was Sojourn's turn to ask. She felt responsible for preventing these individuals from escaping her grasp. Now she could really feel the weight of the burden on her shoulders.
Winston then projected rough sketches of the two individuals.
"For those of didn't have the chance to encounter these two, these are the people responsible for escaping the base with a weapon of potential destruction if fell into the wrong hands. The sketches are based on what some of you described them. On the right side, the two gave their names to the General. John on the left, and Vale on the right. Sombra reviewed CCTV footage around the camp and so far had never seen them enter the base during the attack. We have sent these sketches and their names to government agencies around the world, to see if anyone matches the sketches as shown. So far, no one has any results of these folks."
As Winston droned on and answered more questions from the taskforce, Sombra was half paying attention as she was more focused on her findings. So far, she was able to trace the Jeep into a German town called Rheine. But after watching fast-forwarding surveillance footage around the small town amounting to three days, she has decided that they may have ditched the Jeep and had another mode of transport out of town.
But then, during her research of the town, she found a news article that a computer cafe was attacked by the town's gang, only to be apprehended by riot police. Sensing some sort of connection, she dived deeper.
She started to read the article. Despite being in German, she was able to translate most of the text into English online. But she then realised that she didn't need to. Right dab smack in the middle of the report, there was a mugshot of the gang's leader who was apprehended that night. The photo showed a lady with a circular bruise on her right cheek. And right at the bottom of the mugshot, was the description.
Gabriella Schottel, 23, is suspected to be the leader of the gang.
Sombra searched for the leader's name in Germany's criminal database. Nothing too serious on her part. Petty thief, caught with unlicenced firearm twice, stealing from grocery stores. Scrolling on, she passed through the leader's personnel details.
Address of resident. Just a small apartment within the city centre.
Home number. Yep, matches with the address.
Personal property. Aside from her apartment, she had a pickup truck registered under her name, along with a number plate.
She stopped and looked at the details of the pickup truck. She didn't know what struck her, but all of a sudden, she had a hunch about this particular vehicle.
Then the gears began to turn in her head. She then began to shift through the cameras that captured number plates along Germany's autobahn that led out to the other European nations.
And sure enough, in the early hours of the morning, the same pickup had left Germany and headed towards Luxembourg.
She again shifted through the CCTV footage that were caught on the toll booths on the same day, and again she saw the same rusted pickup truck heading towards France.
Sombra knew they going somewhere. Not sure where, so she checked on the internet for events that were taking place around Europe. She scrolled through the happenings within the week.
New Theme Park opening in Bordeaux, France? Why would they head there unless they want to have some fun before the destruction of
mankind itself.
Big Festival of Music in London? Nope, they are not heading there given they were heading down south and London is northwest of where they were last seen.
Football Titans Clash in Madrid, Spain? From the looks of John and Vale, she thinks football is not really their passion and is also the last place to go.
Then she saw one item was happening the very next day.
Meeting of the United Nations Leaders in Lisbon, Portugal.
She stopped scrolling through and thought for a moment.
They know the identity of these two unknowns but have no idea what their motives are.
They had a deadly weapon of war in their hands, capable of annihilating life in less than a minute with no way technology could help.
And they were heading towards the direction of the meeting.
A meeting that was hosting the United Nations world leaders. The very same people who helped put in place the Petras Act are now assisting their small taskforce in ending the global war that was brought onto them by The Eye.
It didn't take long for her to put two on two together.
Oh my god.
She sat there wide-eyed, shaking her head.
At this point, Winston's briefing came to an end.
"Any more questions at this point?"
Winston looked around the room and then saw Sombra's shocked expression at one of her many holographic screens in front of her.
"Sombra? Is something the matter?"
Everyone's eyes were now on the Mexican hacker. Reaper turned around and saw Sombra's face.
"Sombra? What is it you found?" Reaper's toneless voice asked.
Sombra took a few moments to shake out of her stance. Snapping out of it, she first looked at Reaper, who was about to snap his fingers in front of her face. Then, she noticed that everyone else was looking at her as well, some showed some expression of worry.
"Sombra?" Winston questioned her again, his caring voice now had a bit of urgency and concern.
Sombra then stood up from her bench and made her way towards Winston and his holographic projection. She was now facing the whole taskforce.
"Alright, news flash. Just found where these two iditoas are going." She snapped her fingers. Immediately, Sombra pulled up a captured footage of Vale entering and making payments at a gas station.
"After running from the Netherlands, I followed them to a small petrol station not too far from the town of Rheine, Germany. I lost sight of their Jeep, but I had a feeling they were busy when in town."
She raised her hand at the projection, swiping as it then showed an article with headlines that read 'Town's gang apprehended by Riot Police'.
"Looks like they got the attention they didn't want because there were no signs of the Jeep afterwards. Must have ditched it."
"Sorry, give me a moment. How do you know that these two were even in town, let alone where they are even going?" Winston clarified with the hacker.
Sombra then brought up a person's profile.
"This was the gang's leader that was arrested that morning. I've looked her up and found that she had a vehicle under her name." The hacker stated. "That same vehicle has been caught on CCTV footage from toll booths that lead out from Germany and towards Luxembourg. Last I checked, the license plate for that truck had been seen entering France.
And in case you need proof it's them."
Sombra showed footage of the same truck stopping at one of the toll booths, with a similar-looking lady, sticking
out of the driver's window to pay for the toll.
"Well, that settles the monkey's questions then. Where'd you figure they will be going then?" Reaper questioned.
Sombra then switched to an online article. The article's title was 'United Nation Leaders to meet in Lisbon, Portugal for an emergency meeting.'
"Just to get this straight. You think they are heading here because they are border hopping, correct?" Winston was puzzled, along with most of the taskforce.
"It's a hunch really. A long shot, but it made the most sense."
Sombra then laid out her theory.
"Firstly, we now know who the assailants are, but we don't know their motives. But we know that they have a prototype bomb. And why would they be making their way down southwest? I'd say they will be heading here." She pointed at the shown article.
"To blow up the United Nations off the map."
"You sure they will be heading there?" The cowboy behind Reaper spoke out. His face looked stern but needed some confirmation.
"Well, that's the only event that's happening in the south. It's only a theory at best, but that's all I have. The meeting starts at sundown, so we still have a window of opportunity to get them."
"Then let's not waste this chance." Pharah cracked her knuckles. "Let's get these two clowns."
This has garnered a spur of nods and positive remarks from the taskforce. Winston looked at the now-eagerly awaiting team.
"Athena, what do you think? Should we take this chance?" Winston took another look at the projection.
"I think we should. It's our only lead and we need to strike now before more people die." She reaffirms his beliefs.
"Come on Winston!" His best friend blinked to his side. "Let's go save the world!"
Winston looked at Tracer and sighed with a smile. She was always so cheery and eager. And thanks to her, he felt a great sense of duty to carry out.
"Alright, everyone. Prepare yourselves for a mission. We will leave within the hour. You are all free to go."
As everybody walked out of the mess hall, Reaper stayed behind and joined up with Sombra as they were about to leave.
"You did good." Reaper complimented.
"Aw gracias." Sombra looked up smugly at the masked man, which earned an irritated groan from him.
"Are my two agents going soft on me?" A booming voice spoke out. Sombra and Reaper turned to see Doomfist waiting alongside Ana.
Sombra didn't think much about his remark as Doomfist firmly gripped Reaper on his shoulder, but pulled a bit of a face as she knew this wouldn't probably go down well.
Reaper slowly turned to face the former leader of a once-feared terrorist group. His thoughts went to his morning in the bathroom. With nothing to lose, he decided he was going to do something stupid. Which he has not done in a long time.
"Talon is gone Akande. Your plans for the world are no more. I am free to do whatever the hell I want."
Reaper was normally a reserved guy, a 'not speaking unless spoken by anyone' person. But recent events have made him think about himself for once and the people around him. But he didn't care.
He was no longer under Talon.
Free of his shackles.
And he was free to do anything he wanted.
Doomfist's face darkened as his grip on Reaper's shoulder tightened. If it weren't for the mask, his expressionless demeanour would have shown some discomfort that his big oversized fist was making his shoulder.
Sombra and Ana looked on as they knew things were about to go down and needed to interfere to prevent them from getting this confrontation out of hand.
Thankfully, they didn't need to. As Doomfist was about to tighten
his grip to a point where it could become lethal, he then remembered Ana's words to him when they first got onto the base.
Maybe it's time to let go of this terrorist work and look what the consequences of your organisation have done to
the world.
I know what you are thinking, but give me time to reflect. With Talon gone and The Eye taking over at an alarming rate, do you really think you can stand a chance against them on your own?
And maybe, take time for yourself. You can't always be focusing on Talon right? You should find things that may interest you.
The squeezing stopped.
Without looking away, he let go of Reaper's shoulder, raising his hand as if to let him go.
Reaper didn't know what to think but gave a small nod as a thank you. He then walked off out of the mess hall, with Doomfist and Ana followed after.
"You thought of my words, didn't you." Ana looked at him. And while he didn't say anything, she knew she was right.
"I'm happy that you chose to listen to me. I promise you it will be worth it." Ana rested her hand on Doomfist's arm. He looked down and the old Egyptian sniper and gave a very faint distinction of a smile, which got a smile out of Ana.
As Ana began talking to Doomfist about some drama books that he may interested in, Sombra was the only one that was left behind. While she was happy about Doomfist and Reaper, there was one
particular thing that was on her mind.
"Something the matter, Sombra?" Athena spoke out.
Sombra looked back at the projection, which now didn't show anything except the wavelength of the computer's voice.
"I promise I won't tell anyone."
Sombra breathed out heavily from her nose.
"For the longest time, I thought I could get away with my hacking abilities. Kept getting undetected, I thought I was unstoppable. But then, I was found out by the Eye. The same group that caused all of this mess. That's why I had upgrades fitted on me instead. So I can do my work anytime, anywhere without being tracked. I felt that I left it all behind, only for it to come back to haunt me, exposing my name and face to the world."
"That's why you came here." Athena placed the pieces together. Sombra hummed in agreement, facing down in thought.
It was a few moments before the computer AI spoke again.
"Well, I'm glad that you are now no longer hiding."
Sombra looked up at the projection, seeing the wavelengths moving about as she spoke.
"I think that it is great that you chose to fight back now, that you have a team behind you. Just remember that help could come from unexpected places that you would never expect."
Sombra looked at the AI, her spirit was now feeling lighter and brighter as her purpose seemed now clearer now.
"Didn't take you for a counsellor." She smirked.
"During the days of Overwatch, that was my secondary purpose. People would come in seeking mental help for post-misson recovery."
The hacker nodded as she took in her words, feeling much better now.
"Thank you." Sombra cleared her throat. "Gotta go, I would like to hack my way into Libson. See what I can work with."
She winked to Athena, before cloaked herself and vanished into thin air, leaving the AI alone. Satisfied, she deactivated the projection and returned to Winston's office.
