Chapter 6
Hazel rushes over with Bryony and Maple, and they swiftly get into action.
Maple begins to use her leafspeak, trying to convince the plant to let go of Starflight. Meanwhile, Hazel and Bryony look to see just how stuck Starflight is, and do their best to calm him down. Meanwhile, Kinkajou comes over, and worriedly asks, "Will you be able to save him?"
Meanwhile, the others just look on in shock, and don't even seem to know how to react.
Even Glory, the calmest of the group at the moment, is clearly worried, but seems to be putting her trust in Hazel, Maple, and Briony to save Starflight, Preferring not to get in the way.
Hazel says, "Kinkajou, and the rest of you for that matter, don't worry, we can fix this. I am more concerned about Starflight not being able to breathe and passing out then I am about him being able to be saved, to be honest."
Right after this, she gently wraps a couple layers of leaves around one talon, which she got from a pouch Bryony has, and uses that talon to grab and try to pull the tendril around Starflight's snout off. With some effort, after Bryony impales the tendril with a long thorn where it connects to the rest of the plant, in order to weaken it, she is able to carefully yank the tendril off of Starflight's snout, to which he lets out a yelp of pain, as a few of his scales where the sundew was sticking to his snout are ripped off and starts gasping for air.
"Dang it." Hazel says in reaction to the scales that got ripped off Starflight's snout, and sees where they were minorly bleeding, as it also ripped the skin underneath the scales, and grabs another leaf, and a few other plants, and makes a few small bandages out of it, but not before taking the tendril she had grabbed, and forcibly sticking it to the ground, and putting a few rocks on top of it, to temporarily immobilize it. Bryony and Maple, meanwhile, both use their Leafspeak, as well as methods like what Hazel did, although more carefully, to free the rest of Starflight from the plant.
Hazel then helps Starflight get further from the plant, before giving Sunny the leaf bandages she made, so she can patch up the spots on his snout where he is bleeding.
"Well, I am glad that's over" Hazel says. "Geez has time past. We should probably start heading back soon…." After she thinks for a moment, she adds, "Actually, If we started now, it would be dark by the time we were halfway back, I am afraid we will probably have to spend the night. Follow me, I know a good place."
After a few more hours, just as it is starting to get dark, they arrive at the ruins of the Sapwing village. "This is the ruins of the village where my half of the tribe, referred to as Sapwings by the other half of the tribe back then, lived. In fact, this is where I grew up pretty much, up until when Wasp burned the jungle down, and we had to flee… The Poisionwing village, on the other hand, has a lot less left of it. Not that there's much left here either, but ours wasn't made entirely out of plants like theirs was. Anyways, let's get set up for the night. There is some stuff we have around here already, since, if you haven't noticed, we are trying to salvage what we can, and make this a historical site of sorts, for dragons to visit for generations to come, and see what Leafwings had to go through after the tree wars, until Wasp and the Othermind attacked us again, and we had to flee for our lives a second time. If you want, we can even set up in this large tent for the night, so we can have some level of shelter." Everyone nods in agreement, and they get themselves set up inside the tent.
Kinkajou Soon finds herself the only one awake, and she just can't quite seem to sleep, so she quietly leaves the tent, and decides to explore a little bit. She first heads towards the center of the clearing, where she saw what looked like the burnt out ruins of a once grand treehouse.
She is careful not to damage anything, and just looks by flying around it. Although, when she sees what looks like a small hollow area inside part of the tree, she can't help but move closer. She reaches a talon inside, but finds nothing. Clearly what had been here was already removed. She then carefully lands on a mostly intact platform up above, and sees the ruined remains of a throne. After she rests her wings for a moment, she takes off again, but in the process accidentally knocks a small piece of charred wood off the side of the platform. Thankfully, the noise doesn't wake anyone up. Kinkajou looks around a bit more, although soon it gets really dark, and Kinkajou finally begins to get sleepy. After looking at a few more rooms, she starts to head back, only to run into Hazel mid flight.
"Can't sleep either?" Hazel asks.
honestly, I don't have much else to say. I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and see you in the next one!
