A/N I don't own Harry Potter, only the order in which these words are written!

This is a bit of a fluffy chapter. In the eyes of full disclosure, I struggle with ADHD so I cannot promise regular updates, but I can promise that I will continue with this story, no matter how slow it may be. I also have no clue where i'm going with the story, who the love interest will be, any suggestions will be taken gratefully!

Chapter 2

The following day, Hermione was sat on the Hogwarts Express next to Ginny. Ginny was fast asleep, drool pooling on her cloak which she was using as a pillow against the window. Harry had stuck to his word when he lost the race. He had sat next to Ron for the duration of the train ride. Only slightly grimacing when Ron started eating food he'd secreted in his bag from breakfast earlier that day. Last summer Hermione had gone into Ottery St Catchpole with Ron and explained the concept of a takeaway. To say that Ron's mind had been blown was a significant understatement. He still hadn't understood that just because you could take food away from the Great Hall, it doesn't mean you should.

Ron and Harry were sat opposite the two girls, playing what must have been their 100th game of exploding snap. Hermione had been rereading a book she had gotten out of the library entitled 'Sacred 28 – A history of their lineage'.

She'd first seen this book on their first trip to Hogsmede in the Autumn. It had sat and niggled at her brain that perhaps this could be the book that contained her father and technically her family roots.

Hermione couldn't understand why she had such a significant fascination with discovering her roots. She was happy. She had a mother and father who loved her and could want for nothing. Hermione wasn't even sure what she would do if she discovered her family. Would she approach them? Would she regret finding it out? Would they disown her also? What if they were linked to Voldemort? Despite these nagging and dominantly negative questions spiralling round, she couldn't stop looking at the book.

Daniel Granger had dark features, sporting short chestnut coloured curly hair, striking blue eyes and very pointed features. From this, Hermione knew that there could be no way her father could have been casted out by the Malfoys. There were however a few families they could be related to. The Abbots were well known for pointed noses much like her dad, however Hermione did not believe they would disown a Squibb. The Notts were known for being pureblood elitists with characteristic Chestnut curly hair, Hermione would not put it past them to throw a Squibb from the family.

She'd begun having suspicions around a particular family, but was almost to scared to dwell on it. She had begun charting the family tree of the suspected lineage in the notebook that had been stolen the night before. She had been wracking her mind, trying to work out who's elf had been in her room. Why had an elf been sent to get her diary? Who knew what she was doing?

Hermione felt Ginny stirring next to her. She looked over at her friend who had sat up, bleary eyed and clearly still half asleep. Hermione started chuckling as she saw Ginny trying to casually wipe the drool off her chin, looking at Harry to make sure he hadn't noticed.

Hufflepuff Prefect Cedric Diggory then poked his head into the carriage at this point; "Alright guys, we're about 10 minutes away, get all your things gathered up." Cedric then noticed Hermione in the carriage. "Have a good summer Granger, yeah?" before allowing the door to slide shut behind him.

"God he's gorgeous," Ginny muttered under her breath to Hermione. Hermione could only nod in agreement. Cedric had woken her up in the Library earlier that year. Noticing how tired she was, he had walked her back to the Gryffindor Common Room. They had only made small talk, but the soft spoken boy had made a lasting impression on Hermione. "What on earth was that about?" Ron grumbled to Hermione who simply shook her head in response.

"Don't forget, he stole my win," Harry said to Hermione. Hermione was about to spin round and lecture Harry about his attitude towards other houses. That was until Hermione saw the mischievous grin across Harry's face. The 4 of them then began packing away their cards, food, books and clothes that had managed to clutter up the already small space.

Hermione was being picked up by both Emma and Daniel from the train station. They only had a quick turn around, with them flying out to Spain the following morning. Her parents had agreed to allow her to attend the quidditch world cup being held 3 weeks from then, on the condition that she spent the first 2 weeks and last week with them. Hermione was more than happy to agree to this.

Hermione and her parents had holidayed in France since she was a young girl. One of the other dentists at her parents' practice owned a villa near Bordeaux that they visited for a few weeks every summer.

As the Hogwarts Express pulled into Hogwarts, Neville popped his head into their carriage to say goodbye and wish them a good summer. Dean and Seamus followed passing on their best wishes as the train came to a stop.

Hermione started making her way out of the compartment, Crookshanks' carrier in her hand. As she stepped on the platform she started looking across the platform. It was filled with students running towards parents and families eagerly searching for their sons and daughters in the crowd of children disembarking the train.

"Hermione!, she snapped her head to the right in the direction her name was being shouted from. Stood next to Molly and Arthur Weasley was one of the most important people in the world. Daniel Granger stood at an average 6 feet tall with brown hair slicked up. He was wearing a pair of jeans, white under top and a checked shirt sitting open across his chest. Daniel Granger would fit the tall dark and handsome stereotype banded around by Lavender and Parvati in their room.

Hermione carried Crookshanks in his carrier over to her father, ensuring she placed him down before she threw herself into his arms. "Hi Munchkin, I've missed you" Daniel muttered into Hermione's hair.

"I've missed you too dad," Hermione responded as Daniel let her go and picked Crookshanks up in his carrier.

When Hermione had gone away to Hogwarts the first time, she had been worried about her relationship with her parents. The idea of going away for months at a time worried her. However, if anything, it had brought them closer together. Whenever she went home they made more of an effort to speak to one another and really spend time together. They'd also made a rule between them that they would send at least one letter a week between them. This had been brilliant for ensuring they stayed in contact and updated about what was going on in each others lives.

"Mr Granger!" a voice shouted from behind the hugging pair. Both pulled apart before turning to see who shouted. Harry was pushing his way through the crowd towards the pair. "Hi Harry. I've told you before though young man, call me Dan". Dan Granger held his hand out for Harry to shake. "The offer is open for next summer you know? We'll need to get you a passport sorted but I know how much it would mean to Hermione." Harry nodded back, "I might take you up on it next year," Harry responded with a big grin.

Hermione had confided in her parents the treatment Harry received at the Dursleys. Dan and Emma Granger can't comprehend a world in which it would ever be acceptable to harm a child. They also know how important Harry was to Hermione.

Growing up, Hermione had been a lonely child, struggling to make and maintain friendships. Since an incident in Hermione's first year, Hermione's letters home have been filled with tales of her friends Harry and Ron. In the most recent year Dan had noticed Hermione wrote of Ron less and had started mentioning Harry a lot more, alongside Ginny and Neville.

Dan and Emma we're thrilled that Hermione had such close friends. "I'm afraid your mum had to deal with an emergency at the clinic so she'll meet us at home Munchkin."

Hermione pulled away and gave Harry a hug, "Make sure you write to me this summer. I'll be seeing you in a few weeks anyway!" Harry gave Hermione a tight squeeze before telling her to be safe.

Hermione made her way over to the Weasleys to thank them again for inviting her over. "See you in a few weeks you guys!" Hermione said to the Weasley clan. "See you Munchkin," Came the sniggered response from Fred and George in sync. Hermione rolled her eyes at their antics before heading back to her dad.

Her dad had loaded her luggage and pet carrier onto a trolley and they made a move towards the barrier that would take them out to Kings Cross.

Hermione had been so engaged in her family and friends that she had not noticed the dark pair of eyes trained on her. The owner of those eyes held her notebook tightly in his pocket.

A/N As I mentioned in my first chapter, This is my first fanfiction I have written. Any and all feedback is gratefully received
